has to be one of the most sickening quests ever. it must be bugged. took like 4 hours because there are only like 3 wasps that you have to wait to respawn. god i hated this, just meaningless.

Worst quest ever... I'd rather collect 50 bat eyes in zangermarsh than do this quest. I killed about 10 of each and got zero. The wasps are not that common and the bugs give a disease that increases damage taken by 42% for 30 minutes (for me... it seems to vary). If you care about XP decline this quest. I abandoned it because I'm mostly after XP.

This quest is no where NEAR as bad as you guys are putting it out to be.. and there is alot more wasps then just 3.. if u guys circle the entire camp of the The Slithering Scar, youll see what i mean. I found this out because I decided to look for more since im not the type of person that likes to sit and just wait.. Im having more trouble finding the Boodcaps... Good Luck :)

I'm getting stings from all the bugs, not just wasps. Maybe this changed in the patch, but don't single out the wasps.

The stings were fairly simple at lvl 50.

The hard part has been finding the bloodpetals that have bloodcaps. Gatherer mod helps some but it seems to be about 1 out of 3 bloodpetals that will have a bloodcap.

Edit: 8 bloodcap out of 19 bloodpetals, fyi. Not too terrible.

Turn Ground clutter Density and Radius down to minimum in your Video Options to make this quest easier

Since Un'goro has a lot of grass/plants everywhere this means that the grass further than a couple yards around you will be invisible - so you can see the bloodpetal sprouts sticking out pretty clearly

Since they added the 'sparklies' to quest-related objects in 2.3, these will sparkle for you *only if they have a Bloodcap*. Quite convenient, you don't even have to loot plants that don't have the quest item.

For future reference, if you want the bloodpetals that produce the bloodcaps, stealth will help, go thru Terror Run. Got all caps in about 3 min. If you can not stealth go with minimal 3 person grp as the guys are 53 plus with some elites.

If you want to avoid wasting time on the bloodpetals that don't have a quest item in them, look for the ones that are sparkling

Any of the insects can drop the sting. The drop rate appears to be around 25-30% of the mobs.

Bloodcaps: Just loot only the sparkling bloodpetals, since now quest items appear with this effect, and so you can avoid wasting time.

hugely misleading, any of the insects drop this, not just wasp. As a matter of fact I got none from the wasps. As for the bloodcaps, any bloodpetal that is shimmering drops it 100% of the time.

I don't know what's going on. I got all of the bloodcaps, but it's the stingers I'm having trouble with. I was down in that pit thing for about an hour and killed close to 50 mobs.... I got 1 stinger. I just went back for about another 10mins and killed a few, with no luck of getting more stingers.... what the heck?

This quest is insanely easy. I killed mostly Gorishi Workers because I had like a 90% drop rate. The Bloodpetals have roughly a 90% LOOT rate from Bloodpetal Sprouts, I believe they're called.

Unless you plan to head into Sunken Temple for the last part of this quest line which rewards some decent blue choices, I could advise missing this quest as the drop rate on the stingers is quite poor.

23% from Wasps
11% from Workers.

So you could kill up to 50+ of these to complete this section of the chain.

The drop rate of the mushrooms is fine.

As of 3.1.1a, this does NOT, count towards Loremaster of Kalimdor, nor does it's sequel a Toxic test.
Both count towards 3000 achievment, the seeker title though.

Just thought I would note that I had tons of better luck with the stingers than with the bloodcaps so far. Took me maybe 10 Gorishi or so to get the 8 stingers (as a side note ALL of the Gorishi silithids drop the stinger, not just the wasps). For everyone who keeps saying that a sparkly bloodsprout thingy is a 100% drop for the bloodcaps, you are all wrong as of these last few patches. Even without herbalism (I'm a skinner), all of them sparkle and out of the 5 or so I've clicked, only 1 has dropped. Seeing as how large Un'Goro is, this is very disappointing.

I currently dinged 50 on a pvp server and this quest has gotten a littler easyer.

PART 1

For the blood cap part simply run around the tar pits and any area that has the blood cap lookin things. Then you should see these little "entangling root" looking things that you can pick. Inside is a 40% chance bloop cap and something else.

PART 2

Travel to the slivering scar/terror run and then you will find Gorshsi Wasps, kill these and around a 50% drop rate you will get your stings.

HINT: If you are takeing major damage in feral combat then use my stragagy.
1. find it
2. root it
3. star fire
4. moon fire
5. re root
6. star fire
7. re root
8. star fire

repeat intill dead and then drink. put on some int gear as well to make it easyer.

You should make sure your killing Gorishi Wasps and not Gorishi Stingers, the wasps are weaker and seem to have a much better drop rate on the stings. And as someone mentioned you get the bloodcaps from the Bloodpetal Sprout ground spawns.

The Gorishi Stingers tend to be more prevalent inside of the scar (the cave) and are also flying ones like the wasps. Any of the flying ones drop the stingers, but good luck on the drop rate.

They must have fixed the droprates, cause although they weren't great, they weren't as abysmal as suggested in earlier posts. They drop equally well around and inside the Scar. But there are more wasps to be found around the Scar than inside.

One sidebonus to this stupid quest is the fact that the bloodpetal sprouts will be needed for a later (and repeatable) quest...so hold onto them. Also use this as a chance to pick up as much soil and crystals as possible as they, too, will be needed later.

I'm not one to complain about the drop rates, but this one SUCKS! I've kill every wasp and stinger outside and in, and have only come upon 2 stingers, this is absolutely the WORST rate I've ever had. The ending reward is so nice, but this rate is uncalled for its that low, GL with this I dropped it.

After hearing about the trouble with the drops, I checked the Blizzard Druid forums, and found this thread:

In the thread, there was a suggestion to re-log, in case the stings weren't dropping for you. I had killed 15 wasps with no drops prior to relogging, and only needed to kill 10 wasps afterwards, to get my 8 stings.

The statistical chance of this being just by coincidence is less than one tenth of a percent.

I would recommend re-logging, just in case it helps, it helped me.

This quest is all about luck! Some say the Bloodcaps are hard to get others say the Stingers are hard to get. For me is was the same as everyone else, Bloodcaps easy!, Stingers painfully hard! So my only advice... Tough it and realize you will probably be doing the quest a long while, hope for luck and go for the pretty nice reward when you get done with the chain.

I have been killing wasps, workers, and reavers at 52,77 and my drop rate has been wonderful. I got all of my stingers in about 25-30 minutes.

Make sure you kill more than just the wasps as the other gorishi mobs drop the stinger as well.

I was gonna drop engineering for mining becuz I already had enchanting and I wanted a collectiong profession, so b4 I did I took up Herbalism to use the Find Herb skill to find the bloodpetal sprouts... worked awesome... perfect timing for my behalf... MINING, here i come =P

BTW, yes this quest sux assss becuz I could never find those damn sprouts until I did this, and after I did start doing it I found some sprouts underwater and hiding in ferns... I don't blame ppl for getting frustrated.

this quest is so damn annoying, i even paged a freakin GM about it. got the stingers without any problems at all, it was the bloodcaps that were the real pain in the ass. i had picked up 80 of the damn bloodsprouts, and it had been atleast 70 since a bloodcap dropped. so i abandoned the quest, logged off and left the quest for the night.
Logged back on the next morning, and decided to have another go, got the caps very quickly, and the stingers too.

seriously, give up with this for the day if you are having no luck at all with the bloodcaps. try it again the next day.

When i did this quest as 50 balance druid i killed about 10 bugs and got them all. People say they only drop from wasps but they dont! they drop from workers too. I suggest just killing the ones that are 52+ for higher drop rate.

However i got confused with the caps for a while. I didnt know exactly where they came from until i read the quest properly.

Gorishi Sting's dropps at the Gorishi Reaver/Worker, they are around 46.81 (in the south part) My dropp was, 34%, 8/23.

Bloodcap *dropps* in the Entangling Roots. They are over the hole teritory.

The ploodpetel things dont drop from the plants walking around like i spent many hours wasted trying to get them from these, they are found in the sprouts on the ground (look like big brussel sprouts :) )

The stings drop from ALL the insects in that area, not just the flying ones watever the peaople above have said. TRUST ME i killed about two of the flying ones, the rest i got from the ones on the ground. took about 10-15 minutes, decent drop rate.

I did this as a lvl 51 balance druid easily (i'm not gloating i'm giving a guide as to what level can do this quest) good luck guys and girls :)

As the quest text states, you can kill ANY insect for the stingers. In fact, most of my stingers didn't drop from wasps.

I am working on this quest now around 51,76. I started off targeting wasps mainly (after reading a previous post) and decided to start grinding all the bugs instead of looking of wasps in this area. I had better luck doing this. I am now at 4/8 in 25 min. might be luck but though I would post it anywhoo! >=)_ Have fun shifting all...

finding the stings seemed easy. I just grinded on the bugs till I got the 8 I needed and got good exp so I can't complain. But the blood sprouts would NOT deliver! I've only gotten 2 out of the 11 I've opened!

Yea, I didn't have too much difficulty from this quest. Maybe they changed it, like everything else, with 2.3.

Either way, few points to highlight.

1. All the bugs drop the stuff. Not just the flyers. It's a fairly decent drop rate, nothing spectacular but still.

2. For the bloodcaps, you can get them from the bloodpetal sprouts and ANY of the bloodpetal sprouts around the zone has a chance to have the bloodcaps. Don't bother focusing on wandering around the whole zone trying to do this quest, just do it as you go and save the bloodpetals as you can turn them in to the kodo back at Marshall's.

The Wasps are all around and inside of the Slithering Scar. You prolly went looking right after the servers came up. I did that too and they were rare because so many druids were farming them. But it's the southern side (center) of Un'goro dead south of the volcano.

The drop rate on these from Wasps is atrocious. And there's the issue of getting the wasps to actually spawn.

What I found to work better was to go into the Scar tunnels, and kill the Stingers there. Once you get the spawn locations and patrols figured out (easy), you can kinda hang out in one area, kill 5 mobs over and over. They will respawn as tunnellers, reavers, or stingers, and you can fight them without linking anything else, unlike up top.

I hung out right near the entrance, there's a small room to the east with two spawns and a patrolling spawn (it goes up and out, then comes back in to that room). You can kill it halfway down the tunnel. There is a spawn at the first intersection, a spawn just outside, a spawn at the second intersection to the right, and another patrolling spawn. Kill them all, one at a time. If a stinger spawns, great, I was about 1 in 2 for the stinger drop. If a reaver spawns, or a tunneller, kill it, hope a stinger spawns next time.

It seems a bit scarier than killing things up top, but I found it to be actually much, much safer. You won't get jumped so long as you remember when the patroller spawns.

The secret to getting the wasps to spawn is to KILL ALL BUGS. I know there's a temptation to prowl around looking for just the wasps, but when the bug factory sees that a bug has died, it doesn't necissarily replace it with the same kind of bug. Instead, it has an X% chance of making a wasp (and a 100-X% of it being one of the other kinds of bugs). So just run around killing everything you see, and some of them will be wasps.

The drop rate of the stings is something like 1/5 - 1/3.

I suspect the same thing is true about the mushrooms, take the worthless pod along with the mushroom to make new sprouts spawn. Even with a bunch of druids in the area, I found 8 mushrooms from 20 sprouts.

easy day if you just concentrate on the fliers, above or below ground.

50 druid with decent to good gear, experienced

no need to kill a single non-flyer mob imo

edit: seems the non-flyer mobs are dropping good too, got 2/4 non-flyer kills to drop the stinger.

...way to make the game more user-friendly

I fought around 45, 80 which is just the very bottom middle of the area. I got 7 out of 9 workers I killed to drop a Sting. The other one I got was random from some other bug, but nothing else dropped often obviously.

This is a part of the new Druid quest that was added in patch 1.10 (today).

The first part (which you don't need) is: Torwa Pathfinder

The second part is this one: Bloodpetal Poison
The third part is: Toxic Test (Elite)
The fourth and final part is: A Better Ingredient which is in the Sunken Temple.

The rewards for the final part are:
Grizzled Pelt
Forest's Embrace
Moonshadow Stave

This a bit of a problem for me since I have the Spire of Hakkar and now I don't which staff to use.

The order of the quest-chain are what I find as most probable order, since I so far only have gotten this part :)

Another stupid farming quest, which consist in finding a rare drop that come out from an uncommon mob, and another rare drop that come out from an uncommon plant popping all over Un'Goro.

For what? The only acceptable reward is the feral chest, just waiting for better drop from Dire Maul in the next 3-4 level.
The healing chest is just crappy, it's good the +healing but it has no stats.
The staff it's just COMPLETE USELESS. It has no stats in the true sense of the term -_-
Illusionary Rod it's still better, lol.

No matter how I look at it, I can't fathom why they would intentionally make certain quests so incredibally tedious. This quest is not challenging. It is not fun. It is nothing but boring. You will kill bugs for hours trying to get the wasps to spawn--and when they spawn, they won't drop stingers. And, yes, it will take three hours--unless you happen to luck out and win the statistical lottery on the spawn and drop rates.

Not sure if the drop rate has been changed recently or something, but this was a very easy quest for me. I killed all the Wasps and Stingers i could find, and only had to kill about 15 total to get them all. Took me maybe 20 mins tops to do.

Here are my drop rates for this quest:

Gorishi Stings:

Gorishi Stingers (flying): 75%
Gorishi Wasps (flying): 50%
Gorishi Worker (non-flying): 25%
Gorishi Reaver (non-flying): 0%

Bloodcaps:
28% (Took 29 Bloodpetal Sprouts to get 8 Bloodcaps)

So it seems as though the flying creatures are indeed the best way to get the stings. I'm not sure how many reavers I killed, about 4 or so, and I didn't get any drops from them. I'm not sure if I killed any other non-flying bugs, but if I did, I didn't get any drops from them, either. I only killed 2 wasps, one dropped and one didn't, so I might have gotten a better drop rate from them if I had killed more. But the stingers were very good for drops. You find them inside the caves, and the wasps outside the caves.

46,75 was where the first Gorishi Sting dropped from a Gorishi Wasp. Need to watch it though because a level 55 elite huge Tyranasaurus patrols by there.

Was killing Gorishi Wasps at The Slithering Scar at 49,79 but none dropped so moved over and got a drop there. Still hunting for more.

Just finished this on Classic. Some quick tips:

Stings: only drop from the Wasps/Stingers (the flying bugs). They share spawns with the other types (workers, reavers, whatnot) so if there's none around just kill whatever bugs you see and wait for respawns. If you don't want to grind bugs into oblivion, I'd recommend occasionally checking the cave as this place is the most likely to have been cleared recently.
The Hive Queen for the Pawn Captures Queen quest dropped 4 Stings for me, so I'd suggest asking in general chat whether someone needs to do this quest, as it's a real tough one to solo. They get the quest, you get the stings (and perhaps the quest too). Win-win.

Caps: get them from the sprouts all over the zone. The ravasaur area has quite a few so you can just run around there, possibly while waiting for the bugs to respawn. Set your "ground clutter" video setting to lowest so there's no grass and all blocking them from view - you'll only see the sprouts, soil and crystals this way.

I've just completed two laps of The Slithering Scar, killing every wasp while avoiding every other type of silithid.
I went AFK and let all the bugs respawn, but to my surprise NO wasps respawned, only Workers and Reavers.
This makes me believe silithid respawns are random, and I had bad RNG.
I'm stuck at 6/8 stingers with no wasp respawns on my server. So now have to kill random silithid and wait for additional respawns.

TLDR: Kill all silithid so enough wasps respawn.

So the drop rate on the stingers was terrible.... However, there is a method to get them a bit easier. Do this quest alongside Pawn Takes Queen, or get in a group doing that quest. The queen drops 2-4 for each kill. Since anybody on the quest has the lure, if they are cool, get them to keep doing the event until you get your stingers. And yes, it works if you kill her, drop the quest, and go back to get it if you decide to go that route.

I would ask you to help me create a toxin of sorts, to pacify a great creature living here in the crater. It is not deadly, and only the keen eyes of a <class> can hope to collect the ingredients.

You can find the bloodcap mushrooms growing within the bloodpetal sprouts all across the crater. Gorishi stings are from the insects inside and around the Slithering Scar, located in the southern part of the crater.
