Sometimes the rare elite mob heartrazor will be flying around in this quest area. He is a lvl 32 elite mob and hard to take solo. If you watch his path it is possible to start the quest and get out of his agro range without fighting him. As soon as he flys by the quest NPC start the quest and you should be fine.

The quest starts at 18, 41 up in the Highperch area. Go to the south-eastern "tower" on your map and you will find a narrow path going up the back of the canyon wall. Pao'ka is right on the ledge.

It's pretty straightforward. He doesn't have waves of mobs that attack him like other escort quests, but he does wander right into plenty of wyverns on the way. He's fairly strong and can almost take a wyvern by himself, so if you end up pulling 3 at a time, you can kill your two before killing his. As soon as you're out of combat, his health resets.

He is buffable, unlike some other escort mobs.

Just did this on my warrior. The three wyverns bugged: I only had to fight one, the other two didn't aggro, and thusly despawned. I suck at escorts, so I guess I lucked out.

Pao'ka is at 17,40.

I'd also like to reiterate that you have to go through the first section of Highperch, up a little path, and all the way to the end of that to find him. You're basically traveling south-east the way you came, but up in Highperch. I was running around the lower section for some time, waiting for him to spawn, before I re-read the comments here and realized there was another section!

This is best done along with the Wind Rider quest. Gather your eggs by clearing the mobs and make your way to the NPC. Most of what was dropped was junk and I left it to cut down on the respawn time. Once I had the tenth egg, I started the quest. Had to fight very little though I did have to take a wave of five before we cleared Highperch. Easily soloed as a 29 pally.

very easy to do with a druid 29, all we have to do is follow him and cast hot on him when he tanks and kill the mob.

i don't even have to kill one wyfern, he kill them all, and all i need to do is keep his health above 50%.

It should be noted that if you die, Pao'Ka continues as if nothing has happened. You don't necessarily fail the quest, because he doesn't die. So if u die, run back quickly and rez, he's still probably fighting the Wyvern and u can help him! He won't stop for you when you drink of eat, though, because he's an idiot. :P

Another masterpiece in the long line of awfully slow ~~waiting~~ escort quests. Maybe I should be glad the escorted persons don't die easily like in other games though.

Huh, i was so busy reading comments on Wowhead, that when i started the quest i figured i'd have ages until something engaged him.
How wrong i was, as soon is i flicked back on to WOW he was dead...shameful, especially for a lvl 65 :L
Edit: i stayed put to retry this quest, and started and then went on ahead to clear the way, by the time i got down from the ledge he was quite far behind me and i failed the quest.
Don't stray too far behind or in front of him or you will fail.

This one is a pain to solo for a lvl 30 Shamoo (Tauren Shaman) because the guy's AI is loopy. He'll walk right past you while your fighting a battle and into a group of three aggroing them all. Or sometimes he just doesnt stop at all and aggros every guy on the way. For some reason they aren't hitting him when he's walking... kinda like the hunter pet problem where the pet can't move and hit at the same time.

Im aggrivated by it.

yeah hes very loopy luckly i was grinding when i found him so most of the stuff was dead already but they still respawned close to the way out and he aggroed 3 of them i bearly passed it with a 29 troll mage

The same with every escort mission. Let the NPC walk ahead of you, as soon as he draws aggro, he will stop and fight and you fight that mob with him. If you go on ahead he may not jump in the fight and walk into the next mob before you can help him. This is probably the easiest escort mission I have found. 28 Shaman and no real trouble. Just let him grab the aggro and every fight is like having your own pet.

I just soloed this, and I was surprised at how easy it was. Just stealth and follow him. He'll aggro wyverns from time to time, just ambush them and kill them off. Key is to make sure HE gets aggro so he doesn't continue without you. If he gets two on him make sure you pull one off pretty quick.

There are only 2 tricky parts...first, you get poisoned sometimes so you can't always stealth. Not too big a deal, just hang back a bit until it wears off. Second, there is one spot right before he heads down the hill to end the quest where some wyverns spawn. It looked like 3 spawned to me, but he only aggroed 1 of them. I don't know if thats normal or not, if he were to get all 3 it might be tough to keep him alive. You might have to use some tricks to kill them fast enough in that case but its probably doable.

No matter how many I try to clear before starting the quest, they've all respawned by the time the slow-ass NPC makes his way down that high sloping path into the main nesting area.

I follow behind him and let him get the initial aggro, but no matter how fast we kill them, he manages to aggro 2 or 3 at a time, and then it's all over.

Screw this.

Lucky for me it was busy because of the Wind Rider quest. All of the Wyverns were dead or being attacked! I only had to fight one, the one that comes from nowhere as part of the quest...

Woot 28 BE Pally, just followed behind him, let him get aggro first, healed him as needed and pitched in to kill the mobs. Not too hard, seeing as his health quickly resets after leaving combat.

Not sure if this is a new bug but I was escorting her until the first mesa. I failed sheeping one of the mobs then 3 more spawned so I just jumped off the mesa and used slowfall.

I figured I'd just abandon but I never got an "quest failed message"

A few minutes later, I got a completion message. Maybe someone else was up there grinding? But, usually on escort quests you need to be standing right there when the escortee says you're done (failed the skettis daily escort quest once because I flew away too soon)

Same here that level 32 elite comes around too fast, there's no way to escape the high mesa before he catches up with you.

Highperch is North West in needles (pretty much level with the great lift on the map - but opposite side of the canyon)
There is a path up to get into the "perch" area.
If you have stealth head left (southish)and sneak past the Wyverns and you'll see a big pole then go up the path behind this to the next level - at the end of the path it opens up and you'll see him* by the cliff-drop off to your left.
Speak to him (if you tried this before and failed then abandon the quest before speaking to him to get it again)and he'll pause a moment then head along.
As mentioned in the other posts walk behind him not out front (stealth if you can) and let him agro each beast. He can hit them and you can heal him while attacking with him.
He wanders a bit so it may not be obvious who he'll agro - wait.
When he says good bye then you go turn in quest at caravan.

*PS: If you read what Mortega says Pao'ka is a "him"

If you can time it right, you can avoid Heartrazor. Kill all the griffons in the way up top where Pao'ka is except Heartrazor. Then talk to Pao'ka and accept the quest right after Heartrazor has passed him in his pathing. Pao'ka should walk fast (I use the term 'walk fast' liberally - it's an escort after all :p) enough to the ramp before Heartrazor ever makes it to you. If timed right, he'll be following, but he should stay far enough away not to aggro. Like the others said, otherwise it's pretty easy if you let him aggro. Sometimes hard to stay stealthed if you've been hit with their poison... but just staying far enough behind him should do the trick. That is worked for me - 29 Rogue.

As others have said, Pao'ka Swiftmountain's AI is kinda whacky. However, he is buffable and can be healed. This made all the difference to my Priest - either I always had Renew ticking on him, or I healed him during battle.

Not that difficult for an escort. I just walked ahead of him and he attacked what I did. 10 minutes...done. Easy exp. Might as well as you're getting the eggs.

Just clear the regular mobs up there, then wait for the Elite to pass Pao'ka, then immediately talk to him to start the quest... then you guys slowly walk away and past the Elite. The rest of the escort is a matter of pulling one by one to both of u. Beware at the end though two wyvern attack u at once.

Well, I thought this was pretty easy, but now I don't know. I don't know if it was a glitch or what, but once I got out in the middle area where all the wyverns were, the guy stopped helping me fight and instead just kept walking. I was soloing it, killing them pretty easy, but by the time I killed one, he was all the way across being attacked by three. I'd already had my game freeze up the first attempt, and I didn't want to try again after this failed second attempt, so I don't know if he always does that or if it was just a glitch.

Keep in mind this is not the usual escort quest. You need to stay very close to Pa'oka or the quest fails, which means you can't get too far in front or too far behind, no matter what else is going on or what you happen to be killing, supposedly for his benefit. He is pretty strong and (as always) he will wander into the middle of a group, but then he wanders out, leaving you with the group. They're fortunately not tough and wonderful for leatherworkers. But then when he gets to the entrance / exit of Highperch, the quest fails unless you are standing right next to him or maybe even on top of him at that time. I don't think this isn't a glitch because it happened both times I tried it.

The Time-Constrained Player can't keep doing this, so adios Pa'oka and try to be a little more flexible with your next rescuer or your name will end up some bathroom walls.

Near impossible to solo at the same level as the area. The optimal way to do it would ideally be to clear all of the mobs before starting the quest, but you would need a lot of help to do that before they start respawning, and then you'd probably need a friend keeping them down while Pao'ka makes his way slowly out of the area. If you have a friend with you, you might as well just let him blunder into groups of wyverns and kill them directly. No extra mobs spawn during the escort, and you can heal Pao'ka or buff him if you have the ability. Definitely one of the easiest escort quests in the game.

Please help me, <class>! I've been hiding here in Highperch for some time now and it's been days since I've seen a friendly face. I came here to study the wyvern and I think I got a little too close. After being chased away from one of the nests I got lost.

I need to get back to Whitereach Post! Motega does not know that I am missing and will be furious to know that I ventured into Highperch by myself.
