Don't let Aean Swiftriver and Thora Feathermoon's levels deceive you. I thought at 31 it'd be ok to fight both but I barely survived, having to use a health potion and my Evasion ability midfight to take both of them on. Aean hits for about 40-50 and Thora hits for 50-60, every 2 seconds. These are normal hits of course, so God help anyone on the receiving end of their crits.

They don't run very fast, and haven't got a lot of health either, so they're relatively easy to solo kite as a Hunter... Easiest thing would be to just get one below 50% and have some guards beat them down

If you're a hunter send ur pet in to attack Aean then shoot her from a distance when youve killed her run away because the others dont chase you for long then go back to the corpse and loot it

Killed as a 24 Shaman.

Just kite as best you can using stoneclaw and earthbind totems, searing totem can also come in useful for distracting. Fire nova costs a bit too much mana, it caused my to run out one my first few attempts. Water shield is a must. Other than that, pull with lightning bolt, and spam earth shock as and when it comes off its cooldown. A very challenging fight, but very much possible.

Soloed as 27 ret pala.

I used shield + one-hander, instead of a two-hander
retribution aura of course
consecrated whenever it was off cooldown
divine protection early on (when all four allies are alive) so you mitigate the most damage
and most of all: take them down one by one

Didn't have to use pots or LoH, just kept judging, healing myself, consecrating and swinging.

As a warlock (and presumably hunter) you can sacrfice your pet while you kite her away from the pack, eventually getting her solo. She's faster than you without runespeed enchants, but she's nothing some fear spam and drain tanking couldn't handle.

No, you can not take on the group solo at that level. I just fought them solo as a level 42 mage. I managed it, but wasn't extremely easy as they hit quite hard. Get a group of lvl 20+ people and you can do it easy enough I'd think.

As they pass by Camp Taurajo I shot one and pull them in to the city and the gurads killed and I got the loot :)

Had a good fight with them.
My druid 22 with a mage 25 and shaman 26 ran into them when traveling south on the road in the south Barrens.

I ran back north and they aggroed to me (lowest level). The shaman and mage ran around them to the south, and the shaman pulled one of them and he and the mage killed that one while I got away with emergency button (Nature's Grasp) + potion + rejuvenation.
We regrouped and decided to try to take the remaining three.
The shaman engaged, dropped totems, and he and the mage took down theirs while I bear-tanked the other until they were freed up to help.

It was doubly-fun because they ganked my main on that server a few weeks ago. I ran right through them thinking they were players. I was punished for my error...

before you question me yes i have read previous posts and i do know that you find them between great lift and taurajo but does anyone have a direct path in which they run along?

or do they just wonder around the whole place meaning that you have to search for ages

and where do theyturn around walking at taurajo or after and at great lift or after it.

All you have to do is kill the one with the scroll - you don't have to kill the whole group. /target Aean and that's the one you need to kill. Just send your pet in to get aggro and wail away on her 'til she dies... Then loot... :D

I am not sure why, but I killed this whole group with my 40 Orc warrior. I got the scroll, but it tells me "You don't meet the requirements for this quest". I am not sure why. It is possible that I may have done this in group much earlier.. I have many toons and didn't take notes. Just thought I'd mention it. Someone else may have some insight. This post is just FYI.

Just solo'ed this at lvl 25 on my warrior. Didnt think I would try until the group of elites walked near Camp Taurajo. Pulled them into the camp, claim their deaths with Thunderclap and let the guards beat them to death. Easy.

I soloed this easy as a level 29 hunter. Just tank with pet and kill one at a time... lose aggro then go again

I am well aware that they Spawn at the foot(South) of the Barrens(Chuck Norris Land); my query to someone who knows: When do they spawn? it's it 12,3,6,9 Like arena? Thank you in advance. -Ta

I'm a 33 hunter with a 32 boar pet. Found them near the Field of Giants (after asking around in chat). Here's what I did:

1. Looked for Aean Swiftriver, the one who drops the scroll.
2. Boar charged her (or him?) and we proceeded to kill her, with me using Mend Pet twice, just to be safe.
3. After we killed Aean, the others aggro'ed on me. I played dead, boar kept them preoccupied while I loot Aean's corpse.
4. Ran away, without me or the boar getting killed.

The boots from the quest after this is kinda twink lvl 19 if you dont want 8agi 3str instead of 7agi 3stam... Feat of the lynx is 8agi 3str, i think 7agi 3stam is better ;o

I tried to find the group knowing they spawn at about 47,74 (just north of the road to Dustwallow) and run a circuit south to Bael Modan and up to Camp Taurajo. I didn't find them so I started farming for leather in the meantime. I ran into Azzere the Skyblade just south of town. I killed it and went back to the outrunners spawn point, only to find Thunderstomp a bit southwards. I was hoping that these rares were on a linked spawning program (kill one, another randomly spawns after the relevant timer); so, after I killed Thunderstomp I rushed north and, lucky for me, the outrunners spawned almost on top of me.

I took them down one by one as a lvl 30 hunter starting with Aean for the scroll -- I'd feign death after each (letting them kill my poor pet), revive, catch up with the rest of the group, and repeat for the green drop. :)

im a lc 28pali and owned them eadsy using sheilds and heals anmd idint even have to use lay in hands easy quest basicly free xp :P

Careful twinkers! Running this quest, for the Trailblazer Boots, from start to finish is approx. 7000xp. Biggest hits are 2550xp for "The Runed Scroll", and 2950xp for "Horde Presence".

I'm a level 40 Tauren Warrior, I found it really easy to beat all four of them. I had a little less than 1/2 my health when I was done, probably could have done it at a 38 or 39 level.

did this with a lvl 28 hunter,

just basically killed em one at a time while kiting em. Killed one, let the others reset, killed 2nd, then again let the others rest. Finally killed the last 2 in a row.

took about 20mins or so.

I have no idea what the spawn time is, but I just killed them three times in less than 20 minutes. I'd say if you really really want them you should look around southern barrens. They have quite a big patrol area (I think) but it looks like they aren't as rare as people say, anymore at least.

They have a short respawn time (for practical purposes, they're nearly always up somewhere in the Southern Barrens, dealing out random death on unwary lowbies). I've seen them get killed in Field of Giants and reappear walking up the road two or three minutes later. Somebody said they've been seen down toward the Great Lift. I personally have never seen them south of the road that leads to Dustwallow, but I have met them (a rude surprise) as far north as the dry riverbed just south of the oases.

It's worth noting that it's Aean that drops the scroll and no other, so a kill-loot-run job on him, ignoring the other three, will work for getting the scroll (though the other three have some nice drops, so you should kill them if you can).

Managed to kill them with 24 mage and 24 shaman, died once. First we killed 2 of them and the other two were half dead.

Its easy to solo...if you follow mine steps:
1.Do the quest that you get from ]Mangletooth]
2.get 10 Blood Shard you will get them from quilboars (rly big drop from them)
3.Turn in the quest from mangletooth.
4.Speak with him and get Spirit of the wild (repeatable quest)
5.Oh and make sure you know where the guys are because the buff is only for 3 minutes or something.Use bow..wand..over time dps and keep shooting in each until you reach Camp taurajo.They will be at 60% or something.
6.After they are dead>>Loot
Done this with my lvl 21 horde lock ^^ easy like a pie :p

Solo'd at lvl34 on my way to 1k needles, it's manageable if you're a rogue, i stealthed and killed 1 but then had to run cause i had low health and then came back and finished the rest off, left with 1/4 hp.

I got really lucky, I saw the group of four alot, but one time I saw just the human mage and one of the nightelfs. I decided to take them on and see what happened, I'm a 22 BE Warlock for the record. I had my pet attack the Mage, and kept fearing the nightelf, and with alot of health funneling and some healthstones, managed to kill them both.

Whenever I'm in the Barrens and see the outriders, I'll kill the other outriders and leave Aean Swiftriver alone so that lower level players can take her on, get the scroll and be able to access the quest. :-)

I solod this group at lvl 28 on a priest.
It was not easy by any means, and required me to abuse leashing range using fear/ kiting.
Essentially i pulled the group, feared and kited the ones that weren't feared.

The ones that got feared would reset, and I could easily kill the others.
and then do it again.

took a long time, and I do not recommend, but it is certainly possible.

If like me, you have spent a long time trying to track the mob that carries the scroll (Aean Swiftriver) and her party, but haven't been able to find them, then make sure you check Lushwater Oasis, just south of Wailing Caverns. For some reason, they stop for an undetermined period of time at a centaur tent south of the oasis (47.3, 41.8).
I found them standing there, after looking for them a long time...

I had no idea allies were friends with the centaurs of the Barrens! :P

After about a half day of searching I finally found them while flying from Freewind Post to Crossroads on my high level mage. They were at the south end of Lushwater Oasis, making their way back to the road. As soon as I landed in Crossroads, I rushed over to them, sheeped Aean, and burned the other 3 down fast with arcane explosion. I immediately logged out and then in on my geared 18 (soon to be 19 twink) Lock. Ran over to the area and found Aean; sent in VW (even tho it could not hold aggro), dotted up, feared a few times and by then dead. Even aggroed a hyena in the area, but it didn't matter. Good luck farming!

The Runed Scroll

Take the Runed Scroll to the northern guard tower in the Barrens.

Description

The official-looking scroll is wrapped tightly with a silvery ribbon. You're sure someone would be interested in seeing this, but who?

There is an outpost close to the Ashenvale border to the north, and if the information on this scroll involves the night elves, this would be the place to take it.
