When you enter Uther the Lightbringer Says stop. Just move on, and when you are close enough to Frostmourne, will you automatically throw Quel'Delar into it. Then it will start Whirlwind, and when it has done that. it will spawn so you have to kill it. it has 204k hp.

After completing the quest in Halls of Reflection you turn in the quest to the npc located just outside the entrance to the new Icecrown 5man instances.

This quest is quite horrible for people who -want- to do the normal HoR instance ... since it jumps out as soon as you get in the room and once the blade dies it appeared that the rest of the instance doesn't spawn as normal.

But hey. I got my quest done. And I really couldn't -help- how they engineered this one.

Quel'Delar has 214k hp and melees for around 6k on cloth. All you squishies out there should bring a tank.

Here's the entire quest chain, with simple descriptions and quest links for the Horde versions.

The Battered Hilt
Bring the Battered Hilt to Myralion Sunblaze at Quel'Delar's rest, south of the Argent Tournament Grounds.
What The Dragons Know
Speak to Krasus at the top of Wyrmrest Temple.
The Silver Covenant Scheme (Alliance version is called "The Sunreavers' Plan")
Obtain the Orders by killing an NPC in the Dalaran Sewers. Make sure you kill the right one.
A Suitable Disguise
Obtain a Borrowed Tabard from Shandy Glossgleam; He is upstairs in the Threads of Fate: if you are standing in front of the stairs with the Violet Citadel to your back, it is to the right (to the left is the toy store).
An Audience With The Arcanist
Retrieve the Ancient Dragonforged Blades tome from Arcanist Tybalin. Use the disguise and go in the Alliance section of Dalaran.
Return To Myralion Sunblaze
Bring the Ancient Dragonforged Blades to Myralion Sunblaze at Quel'Delar's Rest.
Reforging The Sword
Obtain 5 Infused Saronite Bars and the Forgemaster's Hammer and use them to make the Reforged Quel'Delar. (AKA: Run the Pit of Saron. The infused bars are near the entrance; don't forget you have to kill the boss, too.)(It appears this can be done on Normal Difficulty.)
Tempering The Blade
Temper the Reforged Quel'Delar in the Crucible of Souls. (AKA: kill the final boss of Forge of Souls; use the quest item nearby.)(It appears this can be done on Normal Difficulty.)
The Halls Of Reflection
Bring your Tempered Quel'Delar to Sword's Rest inside the Halls of Reflection. (AKA, obviously, run Halls of Reflection.)(It appears this can be done on Normal Difficulty.)
Journey To The Sunwell
Speak with Halduron Brightwing at the entrance to the Sunwell Plateau on the Isle of Quel'Danas.
Thalorien Dawnseeker
Visit Thalorien Dawnseeker's Remains and obtain his blessing to wield Quel'Delar. (Go around behind SWP to the Dead Scar (southern end of Isle of QD zone, not in the SWP raid instance) and kill a bunch of mobs.)
The Purification of Quel'Delar
Immerse your Tempered Quel'Delar in the Sunwell. Speak to a Warden of the Sunwell when you are ready to enter the Sunwell Plateau. (Possibly different versions of this for sword/mace?)
A Victory For The - (sword or mace)
Bring the Restored Quel'Delar to the NPC at the Violet Citadel in Dalaran.

During the fight with Quel'Delar you lose the sword from your inventory. If you happen to die during the fight don't worry, you didn't lose it; the sword will be waiting for you inside the instance to kick your butt again.

If you end up in a fail group that can't complete it, then just abandon the quest, go back to the quest giver and pick it up again at Quel'Delar's Rest.

I was able to complete this quest without running the instance, you just need to avoid to talking to Sylvanis and you'll be fine. I died the first time I tried, but came back with a tank and we were able to easily 2 man the sword (1 tank, 1 DPS). There was no need to abandon the quest.

First event
its nice to have paladin/druid to CC. paladins can use holy wrath wich do dmg and stuns them for a while. and druid are nice for knowbacking on the rogue`s and root/cyclone works aswell

LICH KING event

When you do the Lich King event.. Stay behind him at all time instead.. it makes the fight way more easy to do.. (Fixed in later patch)

Just a strategy tip for the 10 waves- (for Heroic or Reg mode)

When you walk in and finish buffing, have EVERYONE in your group run to the other side of the room (directly across from where you enter the instance). Have the tank start the event and all dps get up against the back wall (including melee). Once your tank has taken aggro, melee step up and do your thing. Ranged needs to stay at the wall and dps. If you do the waves in this manner, there will be no LoS issues for healers or ranged dps. Mobs die, party and tank stay alive.

On the last wave in the tunnel (once Jaina has frozen The Lich King) have your tank gain aggro on everything and then AoE all the adds. Pull the mobs as far back as you can on all tunnel waves as not to get "caught" by The Lich King.

As a hunter was able to use aspect of the cheetah and solo'd this part of the quest. Just run in a giant circle, didn't need to disengage once and never got hit.

As a DK it is possible to kite him, but it's tricky. Got him to 50% in second try, after that I found a healer that helped me out.

Key points are to keep running in a big circle, using Icy Touch and Death Coil for dmg while in Unholy Presence (for 15% extra run speed). When he's whirlwinding you're slightly faster than him, but when he's running normally he's faster than you and you need to make sure you have a rune available to Chains of Ice him (he's immune to it when he's whirlwinding).

Again, I only got him to 50% this way, but it shows it's certainly possible. This was as blood spec, I imagine both frost and unholy might have it a bit easier.

Very trivial to solo as a prot paladin, just run seal of light and a block or avoidance (i used avoid) gearset and the sword wont outdmg seal/judge of light assuming you block/avoid ms :)

Did this with a totally random holy paladin player who happened to be on the same quest fase.

Simple, i (prot warrior) tanked and spanked the sword and the paladin kept me healed. We both got it nice and easy.

Be sure to tell your party ahead of time what's going on. This event starts automatically and I broke up the group when two of the members were killed by the sword. And also, once you've subdued the sword be sure to pick it up. At that point it's up to you whether to complete the instance. If you want to be an ass you can quit the party and walk back out to the questgiver. Not cool, but you're basically done once you get the sword back.

How to solo this:
I tested this with my warlock, and the best and easiest way to do is:
Summon a random demon and while the sword starts to spin and dance you go behind Uther and put the demon to aggro the sword and then make him come back at you.
Then, the sword will start whirlwind near Uther and he will engage atacking the sword. Now you have to do full dps to the sword and no worries Uther can hold aggro pretty well and there we go takes less than 15 sec.
I'm not sure about the other clases, but I belive if you aggro the sword with a ranged atack and stay behind Uther until he gets aggro you might do it.

simple if you join a heroic, say to your group dont talk with the npc yet. then you run to the middle. make sure you start it. the mob spawns. and done.

No need to solo or doing anything really hard, its just a simple 216k hp npc. it hits hard but everything hits hard there.

Soloable as a shadow priest. Let Uther tank the sword for you. I ran over to the cubby beside Uther and then shielded myself and dotted up the sword. Once it aggros over to you and Uther simply disperse to limit damage taken and let the first bladestorm hit Uther to aggro him. Let him get aggro as the disperse times out and move out of range of any further bladestorms. Proceed to DPS down the sword. You still have your fade available if you pull aggro off Uther but I didn't have an issue with it. Tried this also as a holy spec first but couldn't get enough damage on the sword to get credit for the kill.

Handy Tips for Warlocks who want to Solo

1. Summon your Voidwalker and place him next to Uther the Lightbringer in the cubby
2. Move back into the cubby and drop your demonic circle
3. Move forward and aggro the sword with corruption (or similar). Voidy will move forward to attack.
4. Transport back to your circle. Bring Voidy back by Uther.
5. Uther and Voidy will take aggro and both fight the sword.
6. You can dps, heal your pet, and if you aggro the sword use soulshatter, but otherwise you can then burn it down.

I didn't notice if this has been touched upon. I've tried to solo this quest by having Uther tank/dps it for me. However after contacting a GM, it seems that having Uther do more damage than you can lead to not being able to loot the sword!

I abandoned and tried again, with me trying to outdamage Uther and then it worked.

Just a heads up if you are unable to loot.

For anyone interested, Uther cannot die. By this I mean I watched him get to almost no health and he could not be killed. It's probably because he's already dead, but regardless don't worry if you see his health going down. It's okay.

Just managed to solo this quest on a ret pally with average ilevel 213 after 4 tries. Cast Exorcism to pull the sword towards Uther and back up further into the cubby, Quel'delar should whirlwind over Uther. Cast Avenging Wrath and whack away, backing off if you don't manage to mitigate the whirlwinds. Toss Sacred Shield on yourself and use FoL whenever AoW procs. You can stun it, so don't forget to use it if you don't manage to get it on the first try. I had on BoK, Seal of Corruption, Devo Aura, and used a food buff.

Stats: 22.9k hp, 1554 str, 25.04% crit, 14893 armor.

I don't know if they changed anything in 3.3.5, but I had a horrible time trying to solo this.
Feral druid in decent kitty gear (4900ish in-game GS).

I either kept him away from Uther and tanked it in bear form, got overwhelmed by whirlwinds that I couldn't stay away from, and died, or went cat, kited Quel'Delar to Uther, and couldn't outdamage Uther because the sword was whirlwinding constantly and I'd die.
Avoiding whirlwinds wasn't that easy because I'd be outdamaged by Uther and couldn't loot the sword.

Part of the description in the Step 9 (The Halls of Reflection): "AKA, obviously, run Halls of Reflection" is misleading. It's not necessary to "run the Halls of Reflection." All you need do is enter the Halls of Reflection and run toward its center.

With some inspirational kiting, it may be possible to solo squishy this without a tank. But I agree with previous comments: if you're a squishy, either bring a tank or use your pet as a tank. If you're a solo druid, recommend ranged attacks with a lot of kiting. For every class, tanks included, recommend: when the whirlwind starts, move!

Step 9 is the only step which may require help. All other steps can be soloed.
