Although the quest seems very long and dragging for a level 20, its well worth it. Having a 60 warrior and many other high level warriors i highly recommend doing this. You can use this armor till the late 30's where you either can attain Green Iron Hauberk or Scarlet Chest piece. The addition to rage makes it great for close encounters allowing you to quickly deal out some damage if needed. I actually used it till level 40 where i got my first plate piece.

If you want to get some of this armor right away, you will need someone to run you through some of the stuff.

Smokey Iron Ingot - (74,60) Stonetalon Mountains, kill any of the kobolds in the mine. YOu can do this alone at levels 20-22.
Powdered Azurite - (32,53) Hillsbrad Foothills, kill the hillsbrad miners. You will need some help if you want to do this right away.
Iron Bar - (AH) Most likely you will buy these becuase your mining won't be high enough at level 20.
Vial of Phlogiston - (Razorfen Kraul) Kill Roogug. Take the first left in RFK and go across the vine and he's right there. You need someone to run you through.

since the Vial of Phlogiston drops from the level 33 boss in RFK, you will be around level 30 before you complete this quest.

if you are a BS, the Green Iron armor is comparable. you may want to save yourself a ton of walking and just make those (the follow-up quests send you to all corners of the world... and then even further to do follow-ups to those).

I've been told coordinates, but where can I read the coordinates in the game?Is it possible to but everything so you can basically skip the quest?

You shouldn't try this quest immediatly, at level 20, most monsters in Hillsbrad are too hard for a level 20 to take by himself/herself.

Smoky Iron Ingot 15: Stonetalon Mountians Windshear Mine (74,59) 46% dropchance.

Powdered Azurite 10: Hillsbrand Foothills Azurelode Mine (27,59)drop by Hillsbrand miners 40% chance for drop. look out for the Pets, there go around.

Vial of Phlogiston Roogug ca 32% chance for drop.

- These drop off of the Windshear Kobolds in the Stonetalon Mountains. The mine is on the eastern part of the map, to the south east of Venture Company HQ. The highest rate of drops came from the diggers, but they all dropped them quickly. The Kobolds are in the 22-24 range, and once you get in the mine, they will sometimes group up into 2-4 total. At level 30, they were easy, but if you are lower, bring a friend. It took me about 10 minutes to get all the ingots.

Flogiston:

- This drops off of Roogug in Razorfen Krawl. Razorfen Krawl is located at the very southern end of the Barrens near the Great Lift. The Great DGDough's location description is perfect, and you shouldn't have any trouble finding him if you go that route. He is a 28 elite and will have a Shaman and Warrior with him. Also has a pet, all elite. To get to him, you have to fight through several 25-27 elites also. If you are high enough, you may be able to pick your way through to him, but it would be tough. I tried it with a 32 Warrior because I have had trouble getting a group to go to that part of the dungeon, and got to Roogug and couldn't kill him because all the mobs pull at the same time. As a side note, lots of mining veins in there and I also found some Fadeleaf and tons of Briarthorn. This is probably the hardest part of the quest because you need a group willing to kill this guy unless you level enough to solo it, and then the armor would not be worth it.

Powdered Azurite:

- This drops off of Hillsbrad Miners in the southwestern portion of Hillsbrad. The miners are all 25-28 in level and there are some wandering Foremen in the area. At 32, it was easy to solo. Only had one close call with a boss foreman (30: non-elite) who summoned a pet and another foreman to help. It took about 30 minutes to go through the mine and collect the 10 pieces of Azurite.

Iron Bars

- Easy. Either mine it or buy it from the AH.

That is it, hopefully it helps anyone who wants to do the quest. The other bonus to the quest is you get over 6000 xp for completing it (at level 34) and the other three armor quests unlock, which are significantly easier than this.

As a followup to the post above me, even tho that Green Iron armor might be better, the Brutal armor pieces you can get after the chest piece, are way easier to obtain. Doing the quests will be easy exp, rewards and can be highly recommended.

The azurite is much harder to get as the miners can run and get help from many ohter miners and the formen. the hardest to kill is Forman Bonds(lvl 30)

Mining is easy part, simply go to Stonetalon, the windshear crap mine and then mine the silver deposits there... I did it twice(died there) with my paladin to get my mining high enough for iron... and then mailed the iron bars to my warrior.... so part four of quest is done!

Iron Deposits are located in Thousand Needles!

Consider waiting until you can do this with the fifth part of Battle of Hillsbrad, where you're going to kill those same miners. I didn't, but it's an option.

When you enter Razorfen Kraul follow until you get to an intersection, turn left, then follow that until you get to a crossing (under are pigs) cross it, and he will be on your right. Hope this helps.
Also, you do recieve an armor for this, plus additional armor quests, definitely a must for a warrior i think.

Just finished this quest as a lvl 23 warrior! I had a full group of people to help out with the quest boy was RFK the hard part!

BTW there are no horns just the iron nuggets 10 iron bars and that az powdered

You can find RFK by going WAY south to the barrens. Right before the great lift bang a right (you will see brambles). That leads to RFK there is another RFsomething dungeon to the right.

roogug spawns down the left path.
Go down the left path and then over that vine bridge. clear out the room with the cauldren and he is in the next room to your right!
Sweet armor for the level!

Also opens up 3 more quest! one for a helmet one for a bracer and one for a pair of leggins! all lvl 30!

It is something wrong with the azurite i have the quest and so but i have killed over 50 miners and have only got one. You said thet the droprate was 60-70% but for me its like 1.

just finished the quest at lvl 29..getting everything except the vial was pretty easy.

solo'd RFK just to kill Roguug, took about 2hrs. died twice and had to run out of the instance after being chased a bunch of times, but it is possible to solo at 29. just take your time, dont use charge and pull single mob's with bow or gun. if you have two attacking you, your probably gonna die, so focus attacks on one of the two so when u come back you only have to worry about the one.

I did this quest, everything is still pretty much where everyone said it is. I got lazy and forgot to finish the quest until I was 39. You don't get much xp for that but maybe 1000 total.

The payout is a bit different though. I received a Brutal Hauberk

Use: Increase Rage by 30

If you link the chest piece in your hotbar and click on it, you will increase your rage by 30 but it has a 60 min cool down. Which isn't really all that useful since the rage disappears or is used within moments.

Notice how the quest says "Bring me the items on this scroll"? Also notice how there is a scroll in your backpack that tells you where you get the items?

Ingots: Windshear Mine, about 74:60 in Stonetalion Mountains, kill the kobal miners, lvl 24-25 I think

Powdered Azurite: Azurelode Mine, about 26:60 in Hillsbrad, again kill the miners they are about lvl 26-27 with lvl 28 gaurds.

Iron Bars: Auction House if your not a miner.

Vial of Plogiston: the previous posts were correct about its location on Roogug in RFK. This is soloable as a lvl 30 2h spec warrior. I had to use Retaliation on the two gaurds just before the vine bridge since they have to be fought together. Put on a sheild and 1h weapon for fighting the Adepts: they feeze you in place, run out of range and icebolt you. Shoot them with gun/bow then LOS around a corner. Interupt spells with sheild bash, I didnt have pummel at this point. I charged Roogug and was lucky enough to loot him before i got killed. Died twice doing this.

Solo'd this at level 26. Very difficult, one mob pulls but doable. Especially if you have 1300 health and 1k armor at that level. Used plenty of health pots.

-This drops off Roogug in RFK its near the Great Lift just fly to camp T and just go to 1k needles and it shouldnt be that hard to find .. rofl their should be 2 ways one to RFD and one to RFK. RFK should have not more then 4 quilboar and u should be able to see the instance RFD has like alot more so you should be able to figure out witch ones witch but the Flogiston is found in RFK Roogug will have a shammy and warr with him so bring elist 5 25+ or elist a 60+ well just to let u know if ur a herb or a miner thats a GREAT place to go herbing and mining...

Powdered Azurite:

-This drops off the hillsbrad miners to the southwestern portion of hillsbrad. the miners are all 25-28 in level i did this today on the date i created this thing rofl i got help from a 26 pally (thanks 26 BE pally) u guys should pick up Dangerous miner hacket is in their and its not worth going in their twice i &*!@ing hate that place rofl

i was just gunna say i managed to do this quest at lvl 30 prot spec
i was pretty annoyed i forgot to do the prequel quest til lvl 28 an then found u got that armor afterwards. i wish i could have got the set at a lower lvl. Quite easy at that lvl i even soloed rfk. Did the last boss along with it. just to make sure nobody actually goes along the boar ravine in rfk. i spent 2 hours down there looking. happy questing :)

For the "Smokey Iron Ingots", these are lootable from "Windshear Diggers" (kobold archetype). There is also a lv 22 Protection quest "Gerenzo's Orders" available from Piznik, a goblin inside the mine. You don't need to go into the mine to get the Iron Ingots, as they spawn on the Kobolds outside the mine. But, there's more kobolds in the mine! :P

I'm 31 and went to do these quests for the armor. I upgraded most of my armor at 30 either from blacksmithing or AH and all the pieces from these quests were of lower quality. If you still have bad gear at 30, then do the quests, the armor will be an upgrade. Best bet before beginning to run all around is too look up the rewards here and compare them with yours before you make a decision. It might be best to make or buy better gear. Or just do it for fun if not.

Unless you're wearing Shining Silver Breastplate, I don't see where you guys say you were wearing "way better armor". I'm Lv29 and I'm wearing armor that has like 180def, a lot less stamina and about the same strength. That +14 Stamina is fairly Large, IMHO. If I can't find an RFK group to do my Phogliston, mayhaps that Lv60 Warlock friend of mine can help me with that...

Every quest is either an elete, (sit around and cry for party) or the quests just run you all over the place and reward you poorly.

I did this quest yesterday and apparently blizzard has pimped the reward:

So it's way better than the chest piece I had before. It was a good thing I did the quest because I almost abandoned it when I read this thread.

This quest sucks. Instead of waisting your time, go on with leveling!
Doing this quest at level 21 is a waste of time too, im my opinion. You wont kill stuff much faster with this item.

I later found out that there are even more "Hiking and Waiting" class quests.

At lvl 22 with out help and having tried for a total of 3 hours so far to get the ingots, i have successfully obtained a grand total of 2 and ill probably wait to do this quest till im in the higher 20's or maybe even wait till 30, but to those who havent tried this quest yet, get a group of guildies togeher for this one

I have to agree that the reward is hardly worth the effort.

And who thought the 60 MINUTE timer on the 30 rage use was any good. With a 60 minute cooldown, it's worthless...talents give more than that. By level 30 I had Slayer Surcoat (armor 207, str +10, agil +3, stam +5) which I like better. Totally not worth the hassle of dealing with RFK elites.

Personally, at my current lvl (21) there probably isnt a better piece of armor i can buy with the stats that good. Iam going to make it a point to get them all. Lucky for me I have a good guild and will get someone lvl 60 to help me out. Not to mention the rewards are free and so far, just by doing te first part (Smokey iron ignots) i went from 10s to 4g, not to mention all the exploring I've been able to do that I wouldnt have done otherwise. It feels good to get out of the barrens for a day or two. I figure by the time i finish the entire series, ill have something like 20g, and free uber armor. but thats just my opinion. Another note at lvl 21 this quest is red but with high lvl help, its not that bad.

My advice would be to not attempt this solo until level 30 at LEAST.

In fact no matter waht level you are I'd recomand you bring help, espeically for the Hillsbrad mine and even mroe so Razorfen Kraul. It's too easy to get mobbed by 3, 4 or even 5 if you stop paying attention.

You can find much better armor in a random dungeon. Thats where i found my Tortoise Armor Tortoise Armor and I dont think i'll need any armor for a while. And the Vial of Phlogiston i also found in a Random Dungeon.

i dotn know about any1 else, but i generaly dont have a lot of time to play and when i do i want hi yeild quests, this quest so far seem to give good xp, not nessisarily good items, but for some1 who gets crap for loot, it seems good so far, yes i have some help from high lvl friends, but this is really good xp for a realativly easy quest

After you do this, he gives you the Hauberk, and sends you out on 3 more quests for more stuff, one of which is this Head. All in all this a poor quest series considering all the running around and having to go into an elite zone. Just kill stuff, loot, and buy better items in the Auction House.

Quest now gives ~3650xp (for me, lvl 31 warrior).
Completing quest and receiving the Brutal Armor gives you another 3050xp.

I have to say that the rewards from this quest, and the next ones in the chain (Brutal Helm, Brutal Gauntlets, Brutal Legguards), are very underwhelming for the level when you get them.

Since you have to run RFK for the Vial of Phlogiston part, meaning level 29-31, you will likely have much better gear once you see the rewards.
As for the on-use effect on the chest you get from this quest (Brutal Hauberk), it's great but the 1h cooldown makes even that very limited.
*Edit: And a simple Rage Potion can be used every 2 minutes.

All in all a tad disappointing :/

I completed this today with three other warriors, levels between 25 and 28. The first boss in RFK is very doable as a four warrior group. I did a /who 25-30 warrior, and then whispered people the following

"Hi there, I’m looking to complete the warrior quest “Brutal Armor”. If you are also, would you like to come to RFK? Trying to get a group of warriors together "

Almost everyone was keen! I strongly suggest this for solo players like myself who don't have a guild to fall back on, particularily at the start of a new server, as I did.

The armor from this quest is good and will be an upgrade for you, unless you're wearing the strength side-grade Shining Silver Breastplate (which is a bit expensive to craft).

Sadly, it gets replaced almost immediately by Ironspine's Ribcage (SM:GY), Archon Chestpiece (SM trash), or Scarlet Chestpiece (SM: Cath trash). If you somehow fail to get any of these three, then you will upgrade it with Carapace of Tuten'kash (RFD), which you should farm as it's a big upgrade.

The pieces from all of the follow-up quests are NOT worth your time - IGNORE THEM. The Brutal Helm is sub-par to the Green Iron Helm (blacksmithing) and the Tusken Helm (RFK), the Brutal Gauntlets are weaker than the Warsong Gauntlets (Ashenvale, Horde Q) / Algae Fists (BFD), and the Brutal Legguards are weaker than Plainsguard Leggings (1k Needles, Horde Q) / Green Iron Leggings (blacksmithing).

Description

I have heard tales of your strength and valor, and wish to make for you a suit of armor, a companion to aid you as tales of your great deeds grow.

Here, take this scroll. I spent many nights, struggling with near-blind eyes, writing that which I need for the armor. Bring me the items on this scroll and I will create for you the first piece of the suit.
