Just a clarification. After you tame one of these, do not fly back to the quest giver. There should be an abomination between where you tamed one and the quest giver, I got the complete around there.

if the pet wont follow you dismiss your pet and then it will follow you - only applicable to locks & maybe for hunters too

if anyone was as confused as me about this quest go to the end of the "bridge" at 55, 71 and you'll see them crawling all over it
subdue one and thats where he walks off to hand the quest in.

To subjugate a Lithe Stalker, attack it and once it's down to about 1/3 health there will be an emote message that says "The Lithe Stalker is weakened by the assault". Use the Sigil of the Ebon Blade (it looks like a sword in your inventory) on him then and he'll follow you around.

Once you've subjugated a Lithe Stalker, lead it to about 55.92, 69.38, there is a Lumbering Atrocity standing there which you will probably have to kill. When you get to about where the Atrocity is, the Stalker will just run off on its own and the quest will be complete.

There's a timer on the subjugation (1 minute) so if it runs out you can re-subjugate the Stalker or it'll attack you once the timer is up.

This quest seems to be bugged, I have subjugated at least 12 Lithe Stalkers and taken them to the top of the rocks. Everytime they just hop down and run toward the questgiver but i dont get the complete. :(

Wow, there are a lot of terrible quests in Icecrown, but this one takes the cake

Edit: After about 15 attempts, I finally managed to get it to work. Pull the giest onto this pedestal type rock, look for it around the "really sharp pointy" rock at 55,70. Damage and use the item here. After numerous attempts of the giest zipping around on the bridge this seems to be the only way it worked, for me anyway. Good luck lol

I agree completely. Eventually, after ten or so tries, I managed to find a way to end the tragedy that this quest is. Easy.

Here's what you do.

Press "L". Opens quest log.

Scroll down the list till you find the quest "New Recruit".

Select it / Highlight It

Find a button that says Abandon Quest.

Click it.

If you are a Death Knight and you think your diseases will kill your pet after you have subjugated it cos they are still ticking, then use Death Coil to heal it back up :)

I had a stupidly hard time with this quest (especially as I did it no problem on another character a few days ago).
Make sure you go up to the bridge/ rampart like it says in the quest text and not down and into Malykiss as the Lithe Stalkers from there will not allow you to complete the quest. You can subdue them fine and they will even follow you back but the quest wont complete.

I went to 55.4, 71.0, entrance to the bridge, dps'ed the Lithe Stalker until I saw the emote, tamed him using the quest item, turned around and ran to about 55.5, 70.3, and the mob hopped away and I got the quest completed.

After reading up on the quest here on wowhead, it sounded alot harder then it really is.

The bridge where you can find the Lithe Stalkers are directly east of the questgiver on your minimap. At the very beginning of the bridge, directly east of the questgiver, you should be able to spot 2 of the stalkers. Beat one of them down to about 1/3 of it's HP and use the Sigil of the Ebon Blade to tame it.

When you have the Stalker with you, simply go back a few yards and off the bridge, keeping to the west side of the road (the side closest to where the questgiver is) your stalker should stop, crawl up on a rock and then jump out in the air (towards the questgiver) completing the quest for you.

I didn't even go close to the Lumbering Atrocity, that was standing further along the road. If you find yourself fighting that mob, you have walked too far.

Watch your damage-over-time abilities/spells. My feral druid kept unintentionally killing the stalkers before they could come quietly.

1) You want to go at the top of the bridge to tame it 56,74
2) Drop it to 40% then use the quest item to tame it.
3) 55,71 are the coor you want to go after you tamed it. It gonna go away and then quest complete

Took me 50 mins to figure out the quest, and i blame the above comments.

Let me explain it in the most simply way.

Just east of the quest giver you will find a lone Lumbering Atrocity, that's the place where you need to bring your gheist to.

Can't believe why people always need make it so complicated.

If you happen to run out of time and the gheist breaks free, just damage it again untill it gets weakened, and you will be able to re-enslave it.
It won't evade like you would expect from a monster that's taken away from his spawn point.

There seems to be a bug with Death Knights where the mob just runs around randomly but never jumps off the cliff.

The diseases from the Death Knight spells damage the mob after it has been tamed and causes it to bug. If you're a Death Knight make sure to attack normally without applying any spells. Run on the west side of the cliffs and it will jump off.

Warlocks beware. Your dots will not be dispelled when he becomes yours. I used Curse of Agony and Siphon Life, and then waited until his hp got low enough.

Go up to the bridge directly behind the quest giver, do not go under the bridge. Go the the very beginning of the bridge where it meets the road then attack the nearest lithe stalker to you. When it gets down the about 30% health, a msg will appear in chat saying "Lithe Stalker appears weakened by the assault". This is when you use the quest item and it becomes your minion. The quest will not complete until you walk off the bridge onto the road at which point the stalker will run off down the road, then it will complete and you can turn it in.

The freaking gheist will not follow me no matter what happens.

I've tried without DoTs on him at all, I've tried without my pet, I've tried everything and he just wanders around instead of following after i subdue him.

EDIT: If nothing you do works on the broken gheists, you can try pulling them over to where they're supposed to leap off before you actually subdue them. Then they won't have time to just bug out and wander off.

I'm finding more and more that mods are completely and utterly destroying the ability to complete some fo these quests. I would presume Questhelper isn't helping (hah!) but it could be other various mods.

This quest in particular, the Lithe Stalker would get to a certain point and then immediately run back to his original spawn point and would no longer follow me. As soon as I disabled all of my mods, bam, worked perfectly for me.

It's extremely annoying, but it's starting to look like if you want to complete any quests that aren't just "kill x monster" you're gonna have to disable your mods to do so.

And with that, I give a big hearty "thanks Blizzard" for allowing so much compatibility with mods. /sarcasm.

I didn't have much of a problem with this one...I flew to the northern edge of the bridge that runs North and South (right around 55.5, 71) and found a Stalker there. After roughing him up a bit, I used the Sigil...and he ran right by me (to the north)...I followed for a couple yards, then got the complete. No abominations, no big deal...and didn't even have to dismiss pet.

Quest is definitely bugged in 3.1. I beat him down, used the Sigil, he jumps off the cliff and runs to 54.3, 70.9, but the quest giver is at 53.9, 71.5 so you never get credit. I even tried jumping down after him and gaining control again, but it's no use. Don't bother until the next patch.

ok guys quest is not bugged or anything. Mratzl said it right. What you have to do, is go up the bridge to the left of the quest giver and get the little guy from there. Once he's subdued walk a bit to the cliff without jumping or anything. After 2-3 seconds the little guy will run by himself and you're done.

how to do this q in 4 steps.

1st : mount up
2: fly up untill you see the bridge.
3: mind control your mob
4: turn around and approach the Lumbering Atrocity (the one who is alone)
5 : stay close the cliff.
done.

Fly up to the bridge, just east of the quest giver.
Kill 40% of the Lithe Stalker, and use your Sigil of the Ebon Blade.
Then fly back to your quest giver and return the Lithe Stalker
= Completed quest

I'm going to give you an easy way to do it to avoid my pitfalls. Walk up the road behind the questgiver to the red orb on the right. Now facing directly east fly to the bridge above where the dirt meets the cement of the bridge. You should see one of these little bastards lurking right in front of you. Stand where you are, blast him with whatever and let him come to you. When you get the que, hit him with the Sigil and from there just hop back down the way you came without killing yourself in the fall. You'll get credit before you get all the way down.

Ill make it as easy as i can, screen shots.

This is where you get your stalker, beat it down to 1/3 of his hp, an emote will appear and you can capture him.

Once you subdued one backtrack a little, now once your on the right path the mob will speed ahead and jump of the cliff, and your done.

A quest that should take 2 minutes can take 30 since everyone keeps telling a different tale, directions etc -.-

LFly up and East from the quest giver - land at 55.5 - 71 attck Stalker on the bridge when you get the message "The Lithe Stalker is weakened by the assault" use the Sigil then walk about 5 paces north off the bridge and the stalker will run off and you've finished. Takes 60 seconds

As others may have mentioned (at least for retail, not just wotlk classic), if you are max level and are on-shotting them, just use a foam sword that can bepurchased in Dalaran. I made sure I had to dagger ready to use, I used the foam sword to swipe at the lithe stalker and I was able to get one. It definitely is frustrating how over complicated they seemed to have made these quests, but it is what it is. Good luck!

Description

First things first. I saw some Lithe Stalkers on the ramparts just east of us. They used to serve us before we broke with Arthas, and they're about as perfect a scout as you can get... with a little prodding from an eye of dominion.

Fly up, find one of the stalkers, beat it down a bit, and then use this Sigil of the Ebon Blade to command its obedience. It will recognize the sigil, guaranteed. Lead it back to the top of the rocks northeast of here and it will find its way to me.
