Trolls are to the north and east of the camp. Kill them and use the boot in your inventory. 100% "drop" rate.

I made the mistake of going to the wrong Stefan (which also gives the quest) and wandered around killing wrong trolls thinking it was bugged. Be sure to go to the right Stefan!

If other players are nearby when you kill the trolls, make sure to kick Nass fast as hell. Other players can theoretically just follow other players around and leech on their kills (and it does happen.)

It might be hard to find, but I'm pretty sure there's a hidden insult in the "Completion" part of this quest.

"You remind me an awful lot of my Nass.

Maybe it's just the nose."

I might just be paranoid but it seems like he's calling you a brown noser...

Actually, I think this quest is a refrence to the song "Pinball Wizard" by The Who.
Its about a deaf dumb and blind kid, who is really amazing at pinball (How can you be good at pinball? >.<). He plays by sense of smell, hence when Stefan says that Nass finds his way back by sense of smell.

Just throwing that out there.

I ran into an issue: I got 9/10 hairs, and then Nass wouldn't get any more hair. Anybody have a resolution to this?

Ok, so you can find a lot of trolls outside of the camp, if the Alliance are not out their in groups of 2+. First hand experience they get in the middle of everything and pull all the trolls. Im not complaning about the alliance, but after this happened about 2 or 3 times I started getting aggervated. So, just out of pure chance i saw a pile of 5 bodies. I clicked the boot and gave Nass a swift kick in his pansy behind and he started choppen their heads and I was getting credit. I'm not sure if this was a glitch, but I tried it again on a different body and it worked. I can't validate this until someone else tries, but it worked for me.

As for Nass, his name should read "Nass <players name> worthless Flake companion"
He ran for any little thing and he dosen't help you kill mobs. He gets one shotted all the time, so just hurry up and finish the quest to get rid of him.

This is currently a little glitchy.

To make sure you get the hairs every time, punt Nass' keister BEFORE you loot the dead troll.

Worked 100% of the time for me after that, but if I looted before the boot, he'd just run in a circle then look at me dumbly.

Look out for Thrym. He's a heeeeeuge 80 leet that will squish you good. He sometimes spawns in the area.

It's really simple.You just have to kill a troll and then use the boot.That will make Nass to go and gather the hair.TROLL MUST BE DEAD.DON'T USE BOOT BEFORE TROLL IS DEAD NOTHING WILL HAPPEND.

This may be a little off-topic, but is there any way to do the kick-motion you make when you use the boot with an emote? Never seen that "kick"-emote before, but it would be kind of a waste if it was only made for one quest!

Watch out when going near Thrym's path while doing this quest, all of a sudden while killing a troll my screen filled up with a huge brown rectangle and I took 12,000+ damage. It was his boot.

The only problem I had with this quest was the line of Icetouched Earthragers right outside Ebon Watch. It was difficult to run between them without aggroing and getting Nass killed. Why he only assists with other mobs and not the trolls is odd. After the nth time of losing him I would just ride around, aggro every Icetouched Earthrager in the area and pull them back to Ebon Watch. The guards would make short work of them allowing me to get Nass again and just stroll around trolling.

I love this quest, for the main reason that it allows you to see every race perform the 'kick' action, even when a race doesn't have a rogue class, like a tauren or draenei. Also was a great reason to see the coolest kick animation well playing my troll rogue.

I have just noticed that there is a kicking animation associated with using the boot. Quite an excessively high kick. Since the animation is already in place, here's hoping for a /gnomepunt ability or emote in the near future.

What a pain in the ass. Nass apparently has the equiv aggro range a lvl 1 would around here, and he never wants to grab the hair, and in the rare case he does, Thrym comes along and stomps you out. And then you go get a new Nass, and he gets stuck on 9 hairs. I hate Blizzard.

Just a big fat warning to all unholy death knights with the talent Corpse Explosion. DO NOT USE THIS ABILITY, the quest will bug and you will be unable to get a quest credit when you kick nass on an exploded corpse.

Fact Compilation:
Source: my own observations (and particularly useful comments that need to be green but can't be made such with just my vote)

Useful Facts:

Nass will scalp any troll you've killed that is within ~42 yard radius and hasn't been scalped
HOWEVER Nass will not loot/give credit if you are not within ~39 yards of the corpse
Nass is gentle with corpses: you can still loot corpses after he scalps them.
Nass has pockets (I hope that's what they are): You do NOT need bagspace for the hairs he scalps, he carries them
Nass is spineless (uh... figuratively speaking): Despite being a "guardian" he will NOT engage in combat of any sort
Nass is - despite the questgivers statements - not very resilient: The howling blast spell cast by the Ice Reverents will 1-shot him : Stated by Tertius; (will strikethrough & tiny this point once his comment is green)
~~The level 80 elite flesh golem "Thrym " patrols the area: he has 630k hp and is basically the new Fel reaver~~ (already stated by Ceriuswoods)

Useless Facts:

Nass is hinted at to having been a ghoul by the questgiver (implied from his "blight bomb" comment)
The animation you see when using the boot is the rogue "kick" animation
This is one of the very few ways in to see the tauren and drainei 'kick' animations, as they are the only two classes who cannot be rogues.
Nass - being a guardian - seems to become whatever level you are; this does nothing as he is useless in combat (as stated above)

This is an annoying quest. If someone breathes on Nass with garlic breath he dies. Watch out for any adds the elemental's around the camp are fairly aggro and they like to kill nass. Clear a path and pick out isolated trolls to avoid having to go back to camp to save and get a new Nass.

Stefan in Ebon Watch wants you to use Nass to collect 10 hair samples from Withered Trolls.

If you lose Nass, return to Stefan to recover him.

Description

Before you meet Nass, there's something you should know.

He got a toxic dose of blight back in the day, and now he's deaf, blind, and mostly numb.

It's not all bad, though. He's virtually immune to the stuff now, which makes him perfect for certain tasks - like the one I'm about to give you.

There are many freshly scourged trolls nearby and we need to study the blight's effect on them. Take Nass, and this boot. When you've slain a troll, give him a good kick and he'll know to take a hair sample.
