He's located at 66,44.

Just aggro him and use the Freya's Ward when he starts to cast the Deathbolt.

You'll have to use it 2-3 times, just make sure you don't miss a reflect, or the Deathbolt hits you for 100% of your HP.

Hint: as a frost mage, do not use ice barrier... it messes with the Ward so that you end up taking the deathbolt instead of reflecting it. Might be a bug...

If you run down too far he will reset! try to stay close and avoid extra aggro. It takes about 3 reflects with the ward to kill him. (which is how you kill him)

Use the ward when he is almost finished casting the deathbolt. I first used it when he started to cast it but then I got hit..
Also hunters/locks dont let your pet tank this, he wont run up to you anyway. As hes casting Deathbolt, then Hellfire, Deathbolt again etc...

Less fun on a Hunter, as you need him targeting you instead of your pet. He is also immune to wing clip and concussive shot. So you just run around him the best you can and hope that his feels like casting the shadowbolts.

Very simple quest..

Start the fight and let him come to you, hit him a couple of times to get him to cast then use the ward towards the end of his cast like said...Also when he does rain of fire just walk out of it and let him come back to you again and rinse and repeat

The ward is channeled, btw. So don't move while using it otherwise it will wear off and the bolt will hit you.

Melee's watch out, cause even if you use the quest item right, he can still hit you, and make decent dmg!

I died about 7 times trying to kill him. Few times were my mistakes, but he would only use the deathbolt twice and then after that I fought him for about 10 seconds, he never casted a bolt I used potion and died anyways.

OK, since no one was really explaining HOW to do this quest, here's a guide for those who just keep dying.

Thalgan Blightbringer is a nasty-looking, massive Scourge monstrosity just north of the questgiver, Avatar of Freya. You should be able to see him from where you're standing, unless you have your video settings turned down. If not, go north just a little bit and look under the triangle formation of the floating mini-necropolises burning with fire. (If he's not there, wait for him to spawn. He pops up from the ground)

Aggro him any way you choose, but here's the skills you should look for.

He *really* likes to do a "rain of fire" sort of spell. Obviously, fire will rain down on the ground around you. If you're not watching for it, and you're stuck in it, it can actually damage you pretty good. He stands still while casting it, so just move out of the way and put a healing spell on yourself if needed. Mostly it's just really annoying, because he casts it the most.

The spell you want to reflect back at him is actually hard to spot if you have no idea what you're doing or have never done this quest before. He brings his hands close to his right side and orbs of shadow form around his hands. Wait a second or two, then use the reflection the Avatar of Freya gave you. If you don't time it right, it CAN and WILL kill you. Took off a huge chunk of health when I was in catform.

Usually takes about 3 reflections to kill him, at least for me since I'm a melee. Had to heal a few times, and died the first time I tried, but it's a pretty easy quest once you know what to look for.

Then, just head south a few steps to Freya and turn in the quest.

*EDIT* The screenshot someone uploaded has an example of Thalgan casting the "deathbolt". To my screen, it blends in pretty good with the background, especially if you're a big hulking bear blocking half the guy's body. (lol)

He hits pretty hard on melee and his rain of fire is not interruptable, so you may want to bring a potion with you just in case.

Super EZ quest just walk a few feet hit him pull up the sheild hit him pul up the sheild again. simple. also for those that dont have cords hes about where the S is in the lost lands. the shield is channel gor like 1.5 secs so time it wen hes a little over 1/2 way done with the spell

Most ridiculous quest I've ever done. It's extremely difficult for hunters. You have to kite him around, so the cast will be casted on you and not your pet, and I seemed to agro about 4 mobs everytime I did it. I manage to get up the shield, reflect it, kill him, and feign death before they all killed me.

Freya's Ward looks like the rejuvenation... if your like me and have to come onto wowhead to see what the symbol looks like........

If you do not have coords, no worries. Do not pay attention to the directions in the quest. He is not north, but northeast, maybe 100 feet upriver. Head just a little upstream and you got him.

To make this a TON easier, turn on 'Cast Bars' 'On Targets' in the combat section of your interface. If you have a decent amount of health and/or armor, you can stand in melee range and never have to move or use potions/bandages. If not, you'll need to run out of the Rain of Fire. One missed Deathbolt won't take all your health, but you'll prolly die from melee or fire damage.

What really helped me was to use Freya's Ward JUST BEFORE he casts his spell. That and bringing some potions along will help you a great deal.

For hunters, it is possible to just burn him down and not even use the ward. You will get quest credit.

4 deaths later I figure out a fire mage should: 1) cast spell, 2) move, 3)activate ward when he casts Deathbolt. The just keep moving however you can. After 3 Deathbolts he's gone.

For those of you who think they are referencing the band Avenged Sevenfold are just professing their ignorance. Where do you think they got the name from? They certainly didn't make up that ancient term on their own. For those of you who don't know to avenge something sevenfold is to take revenge with seven times times the severity of what was done to you. If you want an example, say you shop lifted some M&Ms for fun, but you're caught and to punish you for your crime they broke every finger on your hand. THAT would be the shop getting revenge sevenfold. It is a VERY old term, and someone coined it "biblical" and I don't doubt that the phrase is as old.

As far as the fight goes...

As a squishy it was a little trying but not difficult. Time the use of the item right and all with be well. I recommend squishies kite him as best you can so you don't take as much damage and then stop and use the item when he stops to use his deathspell.

You cannot use the ward while wanding. Make sure you do something to cancel auto-wanding before you use the ward or you may not reflect the bolt in time.

As others have said, turn on your cast bars in your interface options and you'll see when he starts casting his death bolt. When the cast timer is less than halfway to the end hit the ward and it will reflect his bolt back to him. The rain of fire didn't hurt my 78 enhance shaman much so I stood there and waited for the other death bolts. The ward's cooldown is short enough it will be ready each time he casts death bolt. Just hit the ward when the cast bar is past the halfway point and he will die on the 3rd reflect.

You can also listen for the distinctive "shadow bolt" noise that he makes when casting the Deathbolt. If you know what to listen for, you'll be fine. :)

My death of this was cause no mana when started, so i needed to use aspect of the viper and get just 50% of the damage, and when my pet has got an bolt, and got low, i used the Distracting shot to early (when the other long cast spell he has) and got CD on it -.- So guys/hunters mend pet after the bolt and use the Distract shot after the spell like volley and blizzard, then wait a few seconds before feign deadth.

Basically, this quest can be a PAIN if you don't pay real attention to what he's doing. First, you gotta agro him and at first he will cause barely any damage, hitting you with his staff. As soon as you see him start to cast a Deathbolt, quickly put the ward on and the bolt will reflect off the ward and take a huge chunk of his health out. He tends to use Rain of Fire, all I did was run around, healing myself whilst he channelled the spell. That process should be repeated until he's dead, which doesn't take long at all :)

Pet just tanked, he got to 2,5k hp by all deathbolt, but managed to mend back to full :) Hard dps and so on. Easy kill.

NOT simple! He has rain of fire that will hit you hard. If you can survive that and manage to get in the needed reflections you will make it, otherwise prepare for repeated ghost runs back to try and try again.

Tried twice now, and the ward does not reflect the spell. Will try one more time, without my minion summoned; if that doesn't work i'm going to kill him without the stupid ward...

Looks like my pet/minion was bugging it.
Used the ward at the start, and halfway thru cast;
both worked and he died!

It is really not that hard at all. I am a dps druid and i missed the reflect and just ran away and healed quite easily. So not too much to worry about. Just stay away from reign of fire or w/e it is

As of 1st August, the quest seems bugged: I've killed Thalgran many times, using only the ward, using DPS too, using only Slow on him, abandoning and retaking and every time I get to kill him but get no credit at all, and can't turn quest. Ticketed to a GM a awaiting an answer...

if you are a demo lock, put your felguard on passive, or just dismiss him. if you don't, he will tank and hold the aggro and when the big guy casts the deathbolt it will just hit your felguard and theres nothing for you to reflect. i wish i knew that before i killed my poor little minion soo many times. :)

Yes, this is a very annoying quest for Warlocks (and I would assume, Hunters). I died the first time because I used the ward on his first cast and he ran after me, and my Felguard couldn't regain hate. So I decided to just straight Felguard tank him like any other solo elite - easy as pie. At 77 as Demo spec with Improved health funnel I heal my 'guard for over 1100 hp/sec, and his Deathbolt only hits for ~4-5k.

From what I read of above comments, I guess he's supposed to just sit there and cast... and maybe having my pet attacking the first time triggered him to chase me, i'm not sure. Personally, I feel safer just sitting back and letting my pet take the damage. =P

As a lvl 80 disc priest trying to work on achievements and make some extra gold I did this quest, and it was one of the easiest I've done. I bubbled and just stood there waiting for him to cast his bolt. As he started casting I used the ward given, only needing to do this 3 times. Incidentally, he died and I took no damage and walked away with 59silver and the recipe for Last Week's Mammoth. Pretty decent for only taking about 10 seconds of my time =)

I'm not sure if they nerfed this quest or not. They nerfed so many others, but I just did it on my 78 BM hunter and it was a joke. Put pet on passive. Whenever he channels his rain of fire, get out of it, and fire a Sting or Arcane Shot. When he channels the deathbolt, hit the Freya's Ward quest item. 3 reflects he was dead, and I hardly did any damage to him at all, and my pet none. Oh, I put down a Immolation trap for grins at one point, too. He took me to 90% health, because I wasn't quick enough to get out of rain of fire.

tuned moonkin, faerie fire...set the trees on him
starfall then hurricane
when he started to cast deadbolt i used freya's ward, the second time he tried to cast deadbolt used the ward again an actually he died in the middle....

This quest is bugged, the ward fades instantly after use and I'm stuck with the 10 second cooldown and an incoming deathbolt. Died 3 times attempting this ridiculous quest.

I had to take my Felguard's Anguish off as you cannot cast the ward on your demon otherwise easy quest. I didnt bother moving out of the Rain of Fire, just used a HS and Death Coil however I am doing Sholazar Basin at level 80 since I expected the Nessingway quests to be boring.

Thalgran can be found at 65,45. He has 3 main attacks which he will cycle through. Melee, Deathbolt and Rain of Fire.

Important: the Ward that you were given by Freya is a channeled spell. Wait until you see his deathbolt cast at about halfway through before channelling your ward or it will have worn off when his cast finishes.

So, your basic action / reaction is avoid the rain of fire (kinda obvious!) but let him hit you with his melee or he will chase you round for longer before he starts casting again. use a pot or bandage if necessary and then prep for his deathbolt.

It seems to take 3 deflections of his deathbolt to make him drop, but theres no reason why you cant ranged attack against him while you are waiting tbh.

It was fairly easy:

Hit him to get his attention, then watch for him to cast.
He'll smack you a few times, just keep moving.
He'll try to use rain of fire, just get out of the way. It's a good time to heal if you need to.
When he starts to cast deathbolt, click on the ward to reflect it.
Hunters: don't feign; he'll just reset. And don't use your pet--if he attacks it you can't reflect.

Took me 5 reflections and 1 health potion.

I agree that it's fairly easy. Don't run too far, but stay out of the fire, and just reflect every time he starts to cast. It's getting the timing right that counts. A previous writer mentions don't have your pet out, and I found that to be true. I only died three times, but the graveyard isn't far.
