Despite how strong the second ability is, feeling like your in control of a machine gun you're unleashing on a bunch of undead bogies is a lot more fun :)
You can use this mount to fly back to Agmar, but make sure you're near the ground because you have ~12 seconds of flight time until it throws you off without a parachute.

Also, according to This post on the wow beta forums you can use this quest to get to Lake Wintergrasp pre 77. From the wow beta forum link above...

Requirements: level 72, horde, several prequests.

Follow the "Victory Nears..." quest chain in Agmar's Hammer, Dragonblight until you get to the fifth step,
"Blightbeasts be Damned!"

Run to icemist village, and call a Kor'kron War Rider using the flare gun.
Fly up and north, until you crest the ridge.
You'll get the 10 second "You're leaving the combat zone!" warning followed by an ejection from your war rider, but by then you're safely into the zone.

I'm filing a bug since this probably isn't intended, but until then, enjoy. :)

Anyone know if there's an alliance equivalent?

Part of the Horde questline for the Wrath Gate event. This quest line is very long and spans the entire length of Dragonblight. Quite honestly, I consider this one of the most important quest lines (thus far) in Wrath. A must-do for any hordeling. :)

In quite a few of these chains there are optional prequests. I will not list these, despite them being in the quest series list, because they are just that: Optional. I will list the LATEST quest available that will start the chain, or the one most likely to pick up while completing other parts of this chain.

Additionally, these quests are Horde Only. I, unfortunately, do not have an Alliance character on the Beta, so I do not have access to any alliance quests. Sorry!

Step names are purely flavor. They generalize what that part of the chain leads up to/is about.

I highly urge everyone to read the quest text. This quest line is quite possibly one of the most epic in Warcraft history and is highly worth the time. Lore lovers and haters alike should enjoy them.

I'm just gonna copy this from my other post on the Dalaran page. :)

Getting to Dalaran before level 74 with no help from a mage/warlock:

There is a quest in Dragonblight called Blightbeasts be Damned! that you can get at 72. This quest provides you with a flying mount to kill a few mobs. The area you kill them in (Icemist Village) is close enough to fly into Wintergrasp (or log out while on the flying mount and it will put you at a Wintergrasp graveyard). If your faction controls Wintergrasp Fortress you can run to it and use the portal to The Violet Hold.

Tada, Dalaran at 72 with no help from anyone.

Make sure if your a Deathknight or a Shaman don't use water walk then go out on the water and use flare.. the wyrn will not pick you up he just dives into the water and you get to wait 2 and half mins.

Simply use the 1st ability to tag the mobs and break their leash, do this to multiple mobs and get them into a nice little phalanx that is attacking you. Use ability number 2 and destroy them all in one or 2 AOE hits. You might want to heal if you aren't an ace pilot, then repeat the same process on the opposite side.

You can complete this quest very quickly and painlessly using this method.

Impossible, why the ^&*! do you also get damaged when your wyvern does? The 300dmg spell is absolutely USELESS, doesn't do *!@#. So your only option is to use the one with a TEN SECOND COOLDOWN WHAT THE @#$% BLIZZARD to kill them by 1 which takes a ^&*!load of time. #$%^ this quest in the %^&*!@# #$%^ers.

Could only kill 20 before they were "extinct" respawn timer at like 3 minutes or so is annoying. Only use ability 2

I am no pilot so I sat on the roof of one of the buildings (see screenshot). This way I could target and shoot (using the second big blue button) without having to worry about flying. It takes a little manouvering but it was very easy.

When mobs fired at me I flew up and out of range and then back to the roof. This quest took about 2 minutes doing this after dying twice before.

Also the parachute only works while you are in the area. If you are going to fly back to a village the above advice is correct - stay close to the ground or you will die.

If you already used your medi-pack to heal, I found it faster to just land on a roof top or rock and dismount and use the flare gun again to call him back then to sit and wait for health to refill.

Other than that the best advice I can give is just use 2, it will go pretty fast!

Be prepared to have to resummon yur mount as the respawn on the blightbeasts is quite long, seeing as you need to kill 25 of them and there are normally 15-20.

Remember that there are not only some small groups in the back but also large clusters in the front. I got almost all of mine in the front. Just ride in, pick one that's close to you, use your second attack and ride away. It'd blow up 2-3 at a time and I wouldn't have to worry about adds.

Since the front is so busy, I would NOT advise trying to pull some with your first attack. I tried that a few times and everytime would aggro more than I could handle, and often they'd fly at me faster than my second attack went off, so none of them would get hit by it. Just send in the big guy before they know you're there.

damn thing didn't work 9 out of 10 times, the abilities of the flying mount I mean. took me about 5 times to finally finish this lame quest. bugged for me, but fortunately I managed to complete it.

If you don't have Cold Weather Flying yet, keep the gun to assist in getting around the village to do the remaining quests (assuming you haven't yet, quest such as Chains of Anub'ar). Sure helped my priest avoid getting mobbed

I've run this damn quest 4 time's now. Keep dying because the attack abilities of the mount either do not work when I need them, no it's not the cool down, or there's about a 10-20 sec delay before it shoots! Missing the Blight beast or me end up being dead.

Anyone else having issues with this. This is my second toon running through this quest with the first having no issues... new patch bug perhaps?

Note to all, when you do this on your DK and want to get the mount, it won't work when you are standing on the water with using path of frost, it will "sink" to the bottom of the river and you won't be able to mount.

You don't always get a parachute on dismounting. I was flying back to angmar's hammer and fell to my death, literally at the gates.

I'm a retard, I was midnlessly leveling, following questhelper.

I went over to the camp, and started deathgripping the blight beasts down, I got to about 5 after like 10 minutes, then read wowhead.

Then I started writing this comment, while running back to camp. and then realised I could only summon the mount where I was inside the village.

man, today sucks.

Just had a GM tell me today that there's an issue with this quest that is being worked on. I put multiple attempts into this and eventually had to let a GM know as it was driving me crazy. So hopefully this one will be fixed in a future patch.

OK at first I thought this quest sucked ass like everyone else, I was flying everywhere and I could only find one or two of the bastards. Turns out I wasn't flying in the right place. If you fly low along the moat/river thing that goes around the perimeter of Icemist village you'll find a ton of these. Also look for the colorful rays that the cultists shoot into the air because they are tied to the Blightbeasts. That's about all I got hope these tips help

Ha- speaking of stupid places to try to summon the sucker: I just summoned it the second I hit the edge of town... which happened to be under an arch at the beginning of a bridge. He appeared on top of the (tall) arch and sat there for a while, while I just sat there below muttering to myself and waiting for the CD to be over (being level 74 and not having cold weather flying).

Vehicles for quests in Northrend pretty much suck. They tend to have less HP than your character, one long-cooldown move that is worth a damn, and a "spammable" ability that might as well not exist for all its utility.

This quest is a great example of this problem - I had to fly up, kill four or so of the blightbeasts by collecting 'em with the useless little blast, and nuke down the pack with a big blast. By that point, the windrider would have all of perhaps 30hp left, so it was time to land, get off the weakling, and summon another.

Perhaps if WoW were an FPS, this might be a reasonable way to do quests so you could actually avoid damage by flying away from it, but you can't "dodge" targeted shadowbolts and whatnot from the mobs. It just hits you or doesn't (hidden "dice roll" like everything in the game), even if you fly around the attack graphics.

It's a bit sad that I've come to loathe any quest that says "climb on <insert terribad vehicle> and decimate those enemies!" In almost every case, your character is infinitely more powerful than the vehicle.

Anyway, best place I've found to get blightbeasts in good numbers is at the river south of Icemist. There are loads of the buggers, and considering you'll be abandoning and resummoning windrider after windrider, the respawn rate isn't a problem.

This quest appears to be bugged for me in patch 3.1. Every time I use the healing ability, Field Medi-pack, I die instantly and my body being stucked in the air. So watch out and try Field Medi-pack close to the ground to see if it's working correctly, if you fly to high and get the same problem as me and die you might not be able to reach your body and then you have to talk to the Spirit Healer and get 10 min resurrection sickness and a unnecessary repair bill.

I have done this quest on my other character in earlier patches and then i haven't got this problem so hopefully it's just temporary.

Make sure you're in an open area before using the flare. I was too close to an archway and yes, that's where the flier landed... making me wait for cool down to move and do it again.

I am unable to begin this quest at level 72. I can not interact with the quest giver at all. Is there something I am missing that I need to do beforehand? I am wondering if they have changed the requirement to stop people getting into Wintergrasp and then to Dalaran pre-level 77.

I found the best way to do this quest and the fastest is to just go to the front of the village, and shoot button 2 at groups, so you kill about 3 of them at a time. And button 2's cooldown is quite quick so you can do this quest easily in a couple minutes.

You can no longer take the war rider outside of Icemist Village for very long. You get about 15-20 seconds before you get a message stating "You may only fly in Icemist Village". A few seconds later, the war rider flies away and you get to parachute down slowly and safely to the ground. Kinda fun actually.

I seem to be having a problem with this quest. Whenever I use one of the attacks, it does nothing to the enemy. They just keep attacking until I die.

I found button #1 to be the easiest to use. Even though it doesn't spam as fast as people say it used to, it still spams pretty quickly. If you use button #1, you have to use your ability to fly along the Z-axis to your advantage.

The method I followed was:

Aim at a blight that is staying relatively still.
Use button #1 to shoot at the blight and gain aggro.
Fly upwards (using the jump key) and spam button #1 at the blight. 3 or 4 shots should finish them off.
Fly back down (using the sit down key) to be able to reach the blights again.
Repeat.

When you are flying upwards and have aggro, the blights will be flying directly towards you. This makes it very easy for you to accurately shoot your missiles from button #1 at the blight.

Using this method should ensure that you never take any damage at all, provided you take the blights one at a time. Not the fastest method, but once you've died once, you'll definitely prefer this method.

But can be time consuming, especially if there are other players in the air competing for the kills.

The Blightbeasts are bat-like thingies that can be found in the main "town square" of Icemist. You needn't rise too far to find them, maybe 4-5 wingbeats. Look for the towers in the main square attached by the swinging wooden bridges. Mages line the bridges so try to stay out of range. Use the missile attack to draw aggro, then blast with the explosive. The Blightbeasts fire some sort of shadow bolt but these can be avoided by either rising or falling in altitude. The resto has a 5 min CD so use it wisely.
The summoned mount has a 10 min time limit, but he can be resummoned if you run out of time.

You can fly this critter most of the way back to Agmar's Hammer before it "flies away" and drops you with a chute. Get high enough and you can float right down into town.

1)Two weapons;one is 1 sec cd and useless (too weak),
the second is 10 sec cd and gets the job done.
2)A very small combat area.
3)A dismount that jets you into the air and pops a
chute; even if you are on the ground.

I also found range (50 yds) very hard to judge while
in the air.

Description

You've no doubt seen the army of Anub'ar blightbeasts that are being constructed at Icemist Village. The Anub'ar have plans to send those monsters against our soldiers at the Wrathgate. This cannot happen!

Venture west to Icemist Village with this flare gun and use it to call down one of my war riders. Climb on its back and command it to destroy the blightbeasts that are out of reach from the ground!

Once you have decimated their aerial forces, return to me for your reward!
