Just killed it, 2 warriors (1 lvl 70, 1 lvl 64), 1 lvl 70 Shadowpriest as healer (me), 1 lvl 70 mage, 1 lvl 70 warlock.
Np in taking him down, we even had some adds. Nobody died.

When I wanted to do this quest I was told that the Fel Reaver had been killed recently. I said to myself, oh well, gotta wait for him to respawn.

But then I realized that the quest didn't need me to kill him, so I just went for his body and used the item while standing on it, and got the quest completed.

So there you have it. You don't need to actually kill the Fel Reaver, if you see his body just stand on it and use the item.

Deathforge Automatons will also work to fire your key mold. Tried this just now in my guilds raid group and it worked just fine.

Beats trying to kite a Fel Reaver...

If you stand around 59, 41 in Hellfire Penninsula, there is a Fel Reaver that pats by. If you are patient and wait for him, you can pull the fell reaver to the right into a pack of elite mobs. They'll kill it for ya. If you're alliance, they're Thrallmar guards, so you will most likely die. If you can have a friend do the pull and you stay alive, that's fine. Or you can have an SS or whatever so you can complete the quest after the guards kill the fel reaver.

Your problem is that you have to get the elites to aggro the REAVER - not you.

Their aggro tables are not shared - you must get at least one guard to get close enough to aggro the reaver but not you. After that happens the entire mob will go to town after they kill you and reset to their original positions.

To aggro the mobs its not enough to pull the fel reaver close to them. You have to wait for them to do the Blizzard OR wait for the Fel Reaver to use Thunder Clap so he aggros the mobs around. The Fel Reaver's remains vanish pretty quickly so I suggest you do it right after the FR is killed.

I could get the Fel Reaver killed easily. I ran back, ressed and tried to use the quest item - no success, I always got interrupted by infernal drops (stun), then the corpse despawned extremely fast :(
On the second try I was luckier, no stuns -> got the key!

I just two-manned it: Holy Priest with +1700 healing buffed and a Tier IV Protection Warrior. Chugged a mana pot right away, then four more. Recommend a DPS class so you don't nod off...

Confirmed, still works as of today. As a Prot. Warrior, just pulled and ran just outside of the range of the mobs. Fel Reaver used his Thunder Clap and aggroed the orcs. Big and stupid. Used my Shield Wall to lower damage and took off to lose aggro. Aggro stayed on Fel Reaver. Waited for the death of Fel Reaver and went to fetch my key. Every time I got close to Fel Reaver I was stunned by picking up aggro, but I did manage to make the key. As it was said before, the big deal was to get some of the elites to aggro onto Fel Reaver or they both reset.

Confirmed, still works as of yesterday. As an alliance hunter this was very easy to do. Instead of waiting on the east side of the group of elites and running the Fel Reaver into them yourself you can go stand next to the Thrallmar wall on the west side of the elites and use your pet instead. Once you're standing near the wall use Eyes of the Beast and run your pet out past the elites to where the Fel Reaver paths by. As it comes close, aggro it and run your pet into the group of elites. Once your pet gets to them they will AE it and with the Fel Reaver already chasing it will get AE'd as well. The pet will die pretty quickly and the entire pack will start heading for you but you can just FD and then watch the show.

I am contributing to this thread not to say 'Hey I done it' but to add a couple of points as at first I thought this was no longer possible, I tried several times to get the FR and the Elites to agro each other and failed, it was only because there was a post after the last patch (2.3) saying it was still possible, that I endured. It would appear that you need to run right into the Elites, not just by them enough for their health bar to show. Also note that when you walk into the corpse of the FR to fire the key mold you do enter combat for a short time. This is not the Elites aggroing you(hopefully) but the intense heat of the FR's fel fire core. Ouch!!

And yeah of course this is soloing a Fel Reaver.......

As of 30th of Jan 08 the fel reaver can still be killed by the elites outside thrallmar. i am a 70 dps fury warrior but i equiped my shield and used deff stance, i had a hunter with me in full pvp epic but she was useless, used FD before she got to the mobs, i took over and did it with about 3k health left, bandaged up and waited for him to die, screenie included :D

Dont forget that this quest can be completed without waiting for the reaver to wander into the right zone, then hoping it aggros the Thrallmar mobs, then hoping its corpse is still there when you run back.

As a lvl 70 holy pally, I found two others in the zone- a 70 feral druid and a 70 rouge, and the three of us easily took down the reaver. It was about a 4-5 minute fight, the druid (in bear form) never lost aggro, and just spamming Flash of Light, I still had about 30% mana when he went down. It might actually take less time to just group up and down him.

As a horde shaman i dropped my Earth Elemental and ran to the guards. The guards came before the elemental was even dead and Fel Reaver dropped soon after.

I remember healing through a bear druid tanking it when my priest was still level 58.

As an alliance hunter, I followed the tip to agro him on the Thrallmar mage gaurds down the road from the town. I just MDed my pet, attacked the Fel Reaver, and sent my pet to attack the gaurds. My pet got killed, and I Feign Deathed, which was resisted. Luckily, the gaurds used their AOEs and took the Fel Reaver off me before I died. I just bandaged up and FDed again, rez'd my pet, and took to the air as to not be killed by Horde, and waited.

I took a slightly different approach. I'm a lock and I got 30 yards from Arcanist Torseldori and waited for the FR to pat by. When the FR was getting close I wanded Torseldori and ran at the FR. As soon as the group of Elites caught me Torseldori used blizzard AoE on me which aggroed the FR. They of course killed me but I was SS'd and as soon as they killed the FR and ran back to reset I popped the SS and forged the key. Easy cheesey.
Warning though: The FR body fades out in about 10 seconds doing it this way and the forge is like a 3 to 4 second cast so WASTE NO TIME!! Pop and forge right away, I had to do it twice because I spent to much time marveling at how easy it was to do it.......

Removed from the game as of patch 2.4. I was on my way to kill one to fire the key mold and did some checking when I didnt see then there . I guess I'll have to do it the hard way.

I tried this, still works. I did it without dying... I stayed mounted on elite land mount. Agroed FR, and led him to elites. Prot warrior, kept my tanking set on. None of the agro dismounted me and the FR and elites started going at it. I rode off a bit, bandaged, then turned around and watched the show.

After the FR died, he fell right on top of the group. Fortunately you don't have to be right on top of him. I just got near the FR and started right clicking the key mold. Each try I inched closer a bit. Was able to complete the quest without getting in agro range of the elites. Then I just rode off into the sunset....

As of 9/24 this still works..very easy with Lock. Just make sure SS is up and stand outside aggro range of Thrallmar elites. When FR happens by send VW after him to get initial aggro, then immediately send VW after Thrallmar elites. VW will go down pretty quickly and you'll get ganked as well, but FR will aggro elites in the process. Just watch the madness and once elites finish the FR off and reset, res with your SS and pop the forge (you can start forge before FR even hits the ground.) Finished quest in about 5 min.

LVL 70 AP/POM/Pyro. Did this with the Guards help. 3 times. LOL. First time I ran into Guards, then Novaed then Ice Blocked, died, and he left. Second time did it right but, I hit rez after he died which I should of known was wrong but some1 put in here, so I tried and it failed. Third time I did it went well, rezed right away came back and watched him die left clicked the mold, just as I did that the fire mobs came tumblin down kept stunning me but just kept clickin and finaly got it without interupts.
Here's what i did:
First to get you there: In your World Map you will be heading to the bottom tip of the R in Thrallmar. I flew there with Mount. When you get there there will be a Wagon with supplies all over and a few 60 Elites next to it, if you go to the right a little from in front of them you will see 2 mounds one bigger then the other. Stand in line right in front of big one so theres you, the big mound then the small mound in front, while facing mounds bak up count 1001 to 1003 then stop. Cartographer Coords are: 59.6.40.2. While you should be still facing mounds and in line with them, turn right a little till u see the path in between Fel area and hill. This is where the Fel Reaver will be coming, it's also the way you will be coming when you Rez at GY, if you can't on your own. If you turn back left past the Mound you should be able to see the Guards also. Turn back if you looked and wait. When you see Fel Reaver coming down the path Focus on him and wait until he comes in Range and hit em withyour best shot. Turn left and run right into the middle of Guards, timing it so FR was right behind me. I hit them with Nove (not sure if it did any good), then I Iced Blocked myself. The Guards started hittin him, I died rezzed and ran back, he was still being killed. As soon as he died I hit the Mold in my Pak and got interupted by the Fire Mobs which came at that very moment, but I kept clicking after Stuns and still got it. PHEW! Good Luck!

Confirm this quest can be soloed, just pull the Fel Rever close to the Elites nere Thallmar and let them do the work for you, if u die, run back and use quest item on dead fel Rever.

The only thing I didn't see is anyone make mention of something like the NE shadowmeld. As a druid.. this was very easy. I just agro'd the FR... hopped into travel form and ran right through the middle of the elites. Then right as they agro'd on me, the FR showed up. As soon as that happened, I hit shadowmeld and left combat. Sure enough, they agro'd on FR and I popped flight form and watched from the sky.

The attack on the base happened just as FR died, so I used that time when they were distracted to go get the keymold. Then I just walked backwards and left combat and presto done. It took longer for them to slowly kill him than the whole thing took me to do.

so i know we were supposed to get our shattered halls key at 70, but i just realized at 80 that i didn't have it.

not sure what i was doin wrong, but the supply caravan did nothin for me. pulled the fel reaver to within spitting distance of the npcs, watched them convulse when he did his war stomp, and got no help.

fortunately for me, the fel reaver is easily soloable as an 80 lock, with immolate, conflag, and health funnel. even with marginal gear while being stunned by the Infernal Invaders and an annoyingly persistent Thrallmar grunt.

if you're doing this at 80, don't expect much in the way of help from guards. it may be quicker and easier to pull him away from Thrallmar.

I'm a 69 tankadin and together with a balance druid we took down a fel reaver. To speed things up we kited him back to Honor Hold where NPC's helped us kill him. It would be possible for a lower level character to solo this way as well I expect. 70+ characters can probably solo without NPC help. Back in the BC days I was able to solo a fel reaver with a 70 Holy Pally but it took a long time.

Thanks divamatrix for suggesting shadowmeld (I'm sadly ignorant for 80 feral druid & had forgotten all about it).

Worked like a charm, but the elites took a long time to down the FR. An infernal attack started just as he died but persisted through a number of stuns to get key forged.

I soloed the fel reaver as a lvl 70 frost DK. Had to use one healing pot and death pact but easily done for me. then just use the key mold on top of his body to finish the quest.

Was about to kite to Thrallmar when an 80 horde pally showed up and promptly annihilated it.

Was still able to get the quest done, because, as mentioned, you do not have to actually make the kill to use the mold.

Unfortunately, the paladin saw me making the key. We were on a PvP server. I was an Ally.

It's kind of hard to get groups together to do stuff like this on a low population server, but not to fear! You can solo this easily.

This really is pretty easy to do solo if you can get the Fel Reaver to the elites who defend against the attacking infernals at Thrallmar. The Fel Reaver doesn't even have to be kited very far to get into range. (I did it before reading about it here.)

I died rather quickly (and so did my hunter pet) but the graveyard is adjacent to this area, so you just run back. I helped kill the reaver once the horde elite were agroing him, but I probably didn't need to. Just took awhile then I made my key mold. Pretty easy. Of course, watch the horde in this area, but again, the graveyard isn't far away.

I'm not sure if the infernals were attacking when I got the reaver to the Thrallmar elites, or if that matters or not, but they attacked him once I got him there.

We don't have a lot of armor, we can't feign death, we can't vanish. But we have ghost wolf and lightning bolt. That's all we need.

Like many other have said here: stay near the caravan in Thrallmar, and prepare bolt and ghost wolf on your cast bar. When the Fel Reaver is close, really close, start lightning bolt. Immediately after the bolt is gone, start ghost wolf. By the time the bolt hits the Reaver, you're already a ghost wolf and you run 40% faster to the caravan.

I managed to get there alive, and mages picked up aggro very quick. Then I waited until they finish him (takes a couple of minutes). Mold the key, and done.

Possibly, things could be even easier using an Earthbind Totem before entering combat. This should slow the Reaver down a bit.

How to get Shattered Halls Key:

Defeat Smith Gorlunk and loot Primed Key Mold to begin the quest/return: Entry Into the Citadel (Ally) / Entry Into the Citadel (Horde).
Start / Return: Grand Master Dumphry (Ally) - Grand Master Rohok (Horde).
Complete: Dumphry's Request (Ally) - Rohok's Request (Horde). Needs: 4x Fel Iron Bar, 4x Mote of Fire & 2x Arcane Dust.
Complete: Hotter than Hell (Ally) - Hotter than Hell (Horde). Needs use Unfired Key Mold on dead corpse of Fel Reaver. Rewards: Shattered Halls Key.

I had this quest in my log, just needed to kill fel reaver, I log out and it's gone from my logs and the key mold gone from bags, so annoying now I need to start again and buy the stuff for it.

Description

It's not working, <lad/lass>. I cannot give it enough heat... the materials will not be properly tempered.

You know, the Fel Reavers used by the Burning Legion are powered by a scalding core of fel fire - it burns much hotter than normal fire.

If you could find enough people to take one down, you could heat the mold in the insides of the fallen reaver. Beware, <class>, those fel reavers pack quite a punch.
