this is for the key to the shattered halls. to start the very first part of this chain u must kill this guy https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/npc=22037 and he drops the quest item to start the first part. there are a lot of mobs around him so its better if u go to him with a flying mount. other than that he is reachable without one as well.

The Fel Reaver passes very close to the eastern side of Thrallmar. I managed to kite it to the NPCs that fight the infernal bombarment and they took it down in about one minute. Also if anyone in the area has killed one, you only need to be able to target the corpse and you'll be able to use the mold.

Confirmed... When he passes by Thrallmar, just kite him to the group of elites who normally kill the spawning infernals, they downed him in about 2 minutes, completed the quest by myself.

Not sure if they changed this or not, but here's my experience with it:

Standing by the group of mages, he comes out of the southeast, walks north by them, then heads northeast. About 2 minutes later, he comes back from the northeast, down, and out to the southeast. About 20 minutes later he comes back around.

The first time I tried to kite him the mages didn't pick him up. I ran him right through them, and he continued to pound me. After I died he just ran off.

The second time, however, the mages were dropping blizzards, fighting the infernals. I ran him through the fight there, and ice blocked on the other side. After my iceblock popped he killed me, but then ran over to the mages. I released, rezzed, and ran over to watch the show. So it may be that they changed it so that the mages won't pick him up, but if they hit him with the blizzard he'll return the favor.

Even if you kite properly you can still end up dying if you do the solo pull- kite to the guards tactic. If you have the card of twisting nether or a soul stone, this becomes MUCH easier.

Just did this as a hunter.. shot the reaver, ran into the mages and slightly past them... they WTFPWNBBQ'd the reaver, I used the mold in the coprse... got the key. Simple as pie... or cake

I of course used my get-out-of-jail-free card and Feigned Death so I could mount and watch the carnage from a hover.

This is the last parth quest for Shattered Halls key . The quest is simple just need a tank and healer , you and more a DPS . The first parth starts from a mob in Shadowmoon Valley named Smith Grulloc . He can be found at 68,38 in Ata'mal Terrace . Good Luck .

Contrary to what you might think, a fel reaver isn't any harder to beat than any other level 70 elite. Just get a tank, healer and some DPS and go hunting.

As of patch 2.0.12 (4/10/07) you are still able to kite a Fel Reaver to the mages, they will start to AoE and some grunts may attack. Sit back and relax while they do the work. You might have to die, they only need to hit a fel reaver once and they will get aggro. You need to lose the aggro by using Feign Death, Vanish or just dieing.

as of 4/20, still works. Trained reaver over to caravan, just as infernal fight was finishing. Thought I'd have to wait until reaver's next lap, but the two npc's picked him up (once I feigned death to drop aggro). I joined in at about the felreaver's 50% mark. about 3-5 minutes later, one dead fel rever, used mold, swapped toons (logged out right there), and got key for 2nd toon....

multiple alts ftw... ;)

After solo killing (kiting) the Fel Reaver 2 times and I finally realized that you have to ***USE*** the item in your bag (while standing in the Fel Rever's corpse) to complete the quest. It is not just a "loot to complete" type quest. Guess 3rd time is a charm.

BTW, the kite to the wizard trick is very easy to do. Even for a 4 thumb idiot such as myself.

Kiting the Fel Reaver that runs East of Thrallmar into the Caravan still works as of May 28th, 2007 (2.1 patch).

I didn't even die. I used a shock and ran 20 feet into the caravan taking only 1-2k dmg per hit. I didnt even die (I threw down an Earth Elemental totem and he tanked it!)

Kiting the Fel Reaver into the elite mages / Thrallmar Guards at Thrallmar still works as of 21st of July 2007.

What I also noticed when following the Fel Reaver through Hellfire Peninsula is that it will despawn after it's run past all it's waypoints. As soon as it despawned I flew back to Thrallmar and he just respawned in front of the mages and guards.

Still works to pull him to the mages, as an Alliance warrior I just pulled the Reaver from range, ran past the mages without aggroing them, positioning the Reaver on top of the mages, when he thunderclapped he aggro-ed them and they killed him in a minute.

After waiting for about an hour, I tried to kite the Fel Reaver into the mages. About 10 seconds after it died, the corpse disappeared. I don't know if it's due to the mages killing it, or what. This was on 8/25/07.

Set in front of the bloodmages by Thrallmar and hit him with a throwing knife, turned around and ran through the bloodmages. They took him off me right away with all their blizzards/arcane missiles. Took him down in around 3 mins and got to loot him too (60s). Easy.

If you have a pet (any pet, hunter pets, shadowfiend, elementals, etc), there's a very easy way to do the kiting without dying. Put the pet on the Fel Reaver, then run to the mages. Once you reach the mages they will actually run after the Fel Reaver for you and start attacking it where your pet is. Once they start sit back and enjoy. You won't even be touched.

Kited him to the NPC's that fight the Infernal Bombardments no problem. In fact i had to do it twice because when they kill him, at least both times i kited him, you only have a matter of about 2-3 seconds to use the mold before there's a bombardment of infernals. The Infernal bombardment stuns for a couple seconds each and by the time i was not stunned the fel reaver corpse had despawned. Make sure you're ready to use the mold immediately upon his death. After the mages had aggro i was able to stand right next to him without taking damage and use the mold immediately after they downed him.

He is still kiteable by the way... Pulled it with my voidwalker and sacrificed him when the mages locked on the Fel reaver. They downed him in a matter of minutes. The poor thing dropped 12s :)

Kiting him to the elites at Thrallmar still works as of today. I just now did it. LB, NS+GW then run to the elites. He hit me once and they didn't aggro but when I stood there and took a second hit right next to them, they immediately started pounding him. Took about a minute and a half or so, easy kill :)

He's MUCH MUCH too fast to out run... Also, he slows you every time he hits you, making you even slower..

The run from Thrallmar takes approx. 2 minutes and I've never managed to "kite him" more than 3 seconds... When I get back to my corpse, he' even further from the city that before..

i kited him to the mages as a 59 ret pally. all i did was judge command him, popped a swiftness pot and booked it back to mages. once i was there i bubbled and watched the show =)

i only did this for fun though. lol

May 5th, 2008 - still working. Took 1-2 minutes to down him (had infernals up too, though). Has not despawned after 1 minute of the corpse lying there.

He patrols roughly 30 steps east of the mages. If you miss him when he heads north he will be back around within 2-3 minutes. If you missed him while going south, however, you'll be in for a long wait (up to 20 minutes). :(

Simply use a low-damage/low threat ranged attack (spell/throw/shoot/whatever) and run straight to the mages. Hopefully there wont be an infernal spawn to stun you >:) Let him smack you once and the mages will go right on him, tanking him for the rest of the fight.

Just did this today (4. jul 2008) alone with my lvl 70 warlock and it worked like a charm. Here's how I did it:

First I put soulstone on me. Then I stood among the mages and sent my void to get the reaver to me. After first hit I called it back so the reaver would follow it to the mages and me just standing there. They were not attacking anything at the time btw, just standing there.

Well, my void died before even reaching back to me but no prob, the reaver ofc just came straight to me. I died like from 2 blows but that was enough to aggro the mages on it. Then I just stayed on my corpse watching the show. It does some aoe occasionally so it might be I just got lucky that it aggroed those mages, who knows.

After a while when the reaver was around 10% health I decided to ress thinking it was safe enough. So I used the ss and stood there a while somewhat back watching the mages pummeling it.

The reaver went down and I completed the quest targeting it and using the mold. =)

You may want to take off your gear before you start kiting and be sure to plunge the key mold into his corpse quickly after you rez (assuming you died) because he despawns rather quickly (maybe after 15 seconds or so)

Edit: actually, the first time he despawned after 15 seconds, but the second time he didn't despawn for a long time. Just to be safe, be sure to have your quest item ready to use

Extremely easy at any level really. Just wait for the reaver to walk by Thrallmar (it takes a while sometimes, true) and cast your longest range spell at him. Then, run as fast as you can back to Thrallmar and stand behind the group of guards beside the caravan. They'll take him down easy - the elite there will be taking most of the blows but will not die.

It's kind of hard to get groups together to do stuff like this on a low population server, but not to fear! You can solo this easily.

As suggested below, this really is pretty easy to do solo if you can get the Fel Reaver to the elites who defend against the attacking infernals at Thrallmar. The Fel Reaver doesn't even have to be kited very far to get into range. (I did it before reading about it here.)

I died rather quickly (and so did my hunter pet) but the graveyard is adjacent to this area, so you just run back. I helped kill the reaver once the horde elite were agroing him, but I probably didn't need to. Just took awhile then I made my key mold. Pretty easy.

I'm not sure if the infernals were attacking when I got the reaver to the Thrallmar elites, or if that matters or not, but they attacked him once I got him there.

Easy to do this solo...even as alliance. Kited the Fel Reaver to the guards outside Thrallmar, let them kill him, then finsihed the quest.

Though I am a Paladin and bubbled when I reached the guards. After they took aggro from me I ran out of combat, and flew near the Fel Reaver to watch the show.

The fel reaver pats near Falcon Watch too. I duoed with a 67 holy priest as a 70 feral druid, but pulling the fel reaver back to Falcon Watch. The fel reaver does an AoE stun which aggros the guards. I moved him around town a bit to get more guards. He hits hard but we managed with me keeping aggro at all times.

How many of us have been ground into a fine, bloody powder by the fel reavers at some point? How many of us have wondered (as we were running back to our bodies), "I wonder what paths those things take. Gee, if I knew it would sure be easier to avoid it- or find it for the Hotter than Hell quest" Well, thanks to boredom and a healthy, admiring respect for the abominations unto science called fel reavers, I have an answer.

There are two fel reavers in Hellfire peninsula, actually. One to the west of Hellfire Citadel and the Ramparts, one east of them. Note that coordinates are approximate to given locations- they're good enough to track the thing by, though.

THE WEST REAVER

The west reaver takes approximately 45 minutes to complete a circuit. Starting from the Temple of Telhamat at 27, 38. From there it goes to:

32, 45 (the Stadium);
36, 45 (Pools of Aggonar);
42, 45 (the Overlook);
45,44 (crosses through the Ramparts at a huge gap in the wall);
48, 30 (Stonewall Canyon; at this point it doubles back);
33,45 (back to the Stadium);
28, 39 (near Temple of Telhamat again);
26, 48;
17,43 (Fallen Sky Ridge);
16,49 (passes near Cenarion Watch);
22,54;
24,64 (turns near Den of Haalesh);
17,53 (back near Cenarion Watch);
17,44 (back at Fallen Sky Ridge);
26,47;
27, 38 (ends circuit at Temple of Telhamat)

Did this today while staring my dailies. We got a group together to try it when someone in the group mentioned kiting him to the Thrallmar mages and then I remembered this thread. So we all position near the road and wait for him. Everyone started to get bored waiting and started to wander off, killing boars and such. Eventually he shows up, coming from the SE road. So I mounted up my charger (pally) when he came down the road, ran right through/underneath him and ran towards the mages and the reaver followed. Being alliance the mages attacked me pretty quick. I put up my bubble and stood there while the mages/reaver attacked me. The reaver did his AOE attack and aggroed all the mages. Once my bubble expired I croaked pretty quick but by the time I got back to my corpse the reaver was almost at 50% health.

So I got on my griffon, popped a soda and watched the show.

Dead reaver + key mold = a working strategy. :)

This quest is easily soloable. pull the felreaver into the npcs right outside of thrallmar that are killing the infernals and let them murder it. After its dead use the quest item on the fel reaver corpse.

I just tried taking it to Falcon Watch with my hunter - it totally pwnd the guards and took almost no damage. There are simply not enough guards and too low level there to do anything.

Just for reference you don't have to be in a group or even participate in the kill to forge the key. I helped a group do the kill - their tag and was still able to complete.

dead easy, actually followed some instructions on thotbott since the ones here were a bit sketchy.
Just to clarify a couple of things:
1) You do NOT have to participate in the kill to get the quest item from the fel reaver, you simply use the Charred Key Mould on the dead fel reaver and voila.. quest complete.
2) Kiting a fel reaver to the elites (by the caravan) outside thrallmar is dead easy, however chances are you will die! Not to worry, there's a graveyard about 10 yards away.
3) The elites outside thrallmar will not aggro the fel reaver unless they attack him with their AOE, or he attacks them with his AOE. This means you either have to pray the elites are fighting something, or take a health pot with you and stand near the guards... praying he does his AOE around them. If you're a mage and have mana shield or a priest/pally with bubble... chances are you're gonna wanna use it!
I was looking for a map all over the place for the kiting/patrols, and since there isn't one, I felt I should make one:

There are other fel reavers in hellfire peninsula, but this is the one you want to kite. The blue cross indicates about where you should be attacking him to kite, the green line is his path. He follows it back and forth so run/fly along that, chances are you are going to see him. I've also learned they are on a VERY slow respawn timer, close to 1hr 30mins. So if you don't see him right away, keep looking he'll turn up eventually.

I did this as a hunter, and attempted to use aspect of the cheetah, concussive shot and frost trap. Let me lay this to rest RIGHT now.... he is immune to concussive shot, and frost trap. Cheetah obviously works but he will catch up to you very fast, and you risk running into a mob accidentally.
As soon as youve got him to the mages and they start AOEing him, sit back relax and get ready to run in with your charred key mould. May I suggest you put it on your actionbar somewhere, since you have about 8-10 seconds before the corpse dissapears and you'll have to try again. No need for a hotkey, just so you can click it. You have to be within the vicinity of the corpse to use it, and it's a 2-3 second cast. I didn't bother looting the corpse though in retrospect probably should have, you don't have to be able to loot the fel reaver to finish the q.
Other than that.. really simple! Best way to get the key :D

Defeat Smith Gorlunk and loot Primed Key Mold to begin the quest/return: Entry Into the Citadel (Ally) / Entry Into the Citadel (Horde).
Start / Return: Grand Master Dumphry (Ally) - Grand Master Rohok (Horde).
Complete: Dumphry's Request (Ally) - Rohok's Request (Horde). Needs: 4x Fel Iron Bar, 4x Mote of Fire & 2x Arcane Dust.
Complete: Hotter than Hell (Ally) - Hotter than Hell (Horde). Needs use Unfired Key Mold on dead corpse of Fel Reaver. Rewards: Shattered Halls Key.

You don't need to tag the Fel Reaver for kill credit in order to complete the quest. Just target the body of a dead Fel Reaver and use the item. If another group has killed recently, or if there are more than 5 people, then you can still get the key done!

Description

It's no good, <name>! No matter how many coals I put to the fire, it's just not enough heat.

There's only one thing I can think of that is hot enough to temper this key and it is the insides of the Legion's fel reavers.

I've only ever seen one downed once. I remember seeing its insides fuming, shooting fire and steam as it fell. Take this mold and plunge it into a fallen fel reaver. I recommend you get yourself some friends if you plan to take one down.
