Annoying quest, I died once because adds kept coming in every time I killed one, so I constantly had to deal with 2-3 mobs a a time. Drop rate from workers is pretty low, so look for the tablets on the ground.

This area seems to be bugged for some. The workers are all evade bugged. I spoke with a GM on the issue and was told that there have been a few reports of workers evading. They are "Looking into it" but I was also told its probably client lag.

Works fine for me, workers don't evade bug, but I've killed atleast 20 and not one tablet has dropped for me. I just picked the ones up off the floor.

Some, not all, workers evaded for me. Actually, made the quest easier to do since you dont have to pull as many mobs. You can just run to some of the tablets and loot them since the evaded workers dont aggro.

Otherwise, this quest is pretty hard. Since you have to kill 3-5 mobs to get to a tablet, and you need 12, it takes some time.

Place is really crowded aswell, and aggro range seems rather long, so prepare to kill atleast 3 mobs a time.

The process of attunement to the Black Temple begins in Shadowmoon Valley with a very long quest chain that requires trips to the Arcatraz, Serpentshrine Cavern, Mount Hyjal and finally the doorstep of the Black Temple itself. Even if you're not planning on raiding just yet, the chain does offer some nice blue rewards half way through. It starts differently depending on whether you're Aldor (A) or Scryer (S):

Aldors pick up the line from Anchorite Ceyla in the Altar of Sha'tar:
1. (A) Tablets of Baa'ri
2. (A) Oronu the Elder
3. (A) The Ashtongue Corruptors
4. (A) The Warden's Cage

Scyers get it from Arcanist Thelis at the Sanctum of Stars:
1. (S) Tablets of Baa'ri
2. (S) Oronu the Elder
3. (S) The Ashtongue Corruptors
4. (S) The Warden's Cage

At this point the chains converge for both factions:
5. Proof of Allegiance
6. Akama
7. Seer Udalo (Dungeon)

Here, you have to venture into the Arcatraz (which requires a Rogue with 350 lockpicking or somebody to open the door who's completed the Arcatraz Key chain, which requires trips to the Mechanar and the Botanica respectively) to the room just before the final boss. Sadly it's impossible to solo-stealth to. Finding Udalo leads to:

Talk to Akama:
8. A Mysterious Portent
Kill waves of nonelites, 3 elites and a boss (5-man) on a terrace outside the Black Temple:
9. The Ata'mal Terrace
Finally, deliver the medallion to A'dal in Shattrath City:
10. Akama's Promise

The chain ends here, and you're granted a choice of rewards:
Akama's Sash (cloth DPS belt)
Bloodwarder's Rifle (gun)
Spellbreaker's Buckler (spelldamage shield)
Ashtongue Blade (phsyical DPS dagger)
Verdant Gloves (feral leather gloves)
Staff of the Ashtongue Deathsworn (healing staff)
However, if you now go into Serpentshrine Cavern and kill Karathress, you'll be able to talk to Seer Olum who'll continue the quest chain for you:

1. The Secret Compromised
Go back to Warden's Cage in SMV and talk to Akama.
2. Ruse of the Ashtongue
Using the Ashtongue Cowl provided, kill Al'ar in Tempest Keep while disguised as a member of the Deathsworn.
3. An Artifact From the Past
You need to be attuned to Mount Hyjal for this. Simply kill Rage Winterchill and loot his phylactery (what is it with liches and their phylacteries?), then deliver it to Akama...
4. The Hostage Soul
...then return to Ad'al in Shattrath City...
5. Entry Into the Black Temple
...then go back to Shadowmoon and talk to Xi'ri on the road leading to the Black Temple. He'll ask you to help with
6. A Distraction for Akama
...but once you tell Xi'ri you're ready (talk to him after accepting the quest), you can watch a scripted sequence that you do not actually have to help with in any way. After this is finished, talk to Xi'ri again for your Medallion of Karabor and the completion of Black Temple attunement. Congratulations, you can now waltz in to Illidan's latest bachelor pad!

But before you go, the chain continues from Xi'ri with:
7. Seek Out the Ashtongue
Time to start exploring the Black Temple! When you find the Deathsworn, they'll give you
2. Redemption of the Ashtongue
...which requires you to kill the Shade of Akama. Finally you're given
3. The Fall of the Betrayer
Yup, kill Illidan. No problem. Then you're done.

At 58, 38 there is a column at a slant on the edge of the hill. If you pull too many enemies and need a place to go, run up to the top of the column. The enemies can't reach you there and will leave you alone after a short period of time.

He starts the next part of the Black Temple Chain by offering the quest:

In this, you need to gain access to The Battle of Mount Hyjal in Caverns of Time, and slay the first boss, Rage Winterchill. Attunement for this involves killing Lady Vashj and Kael'Thas Sunstrider.

For this you must speak with A'dal in Shattrath city.

At this point, you are attuned and can enter Black Temple, although the chain continues and you can soon upgrade your medallion. It continues with:

After killing the Shade of Akama and returning to Seer Kanai, he asks one last thing of you. Kill Illidan The Betrayer. After doing so, you are granted the Blessed Medallion of Karabor, an upgraded version of your original medallion, and allows teleportation to the Black Temple.

These only seemed to drop off the Workers for me. I was able to single pull every single one of these, easy. I charged in as a 70 warrior. Double this quest with The Ashtongue Tribe quest.

Easy to do with a friend or wait until ally farmer bots clear all the mobs before you and then do it. Don't go for drops, just pick them up.

Wow, not only do the worker's love to run away and bring additional friends, they have a way of multiplying while you're facing one - oops, now you have to fight two mobs.. and so forth. Bring friends on this one or prepare to rip your hair out of your skull.

Not quite as bad as many people have said. The drop rate was quite high for me - somewhere in the neighborhood of 30%. I found it easier to just go along walls and kill off workers rather than look for them on the ground. I did get several nasty adds at times - but if you mind your surroundings and don't let runners get far, you can manage mostly single or double pulls.

I just put a + mark on everyones comment that basically said this quest will drive you retarded. Because it WILL!!!

Rogues: Bring LOTS of Flash Powder for this quest. LOTS. Adds come from nowhere and Rend kills vanish. Oh, of course I have Preparation... But how does that help with 4 mobs continuously Rending you ???

It goes like this: Sap one from behind, distract the other to look the other way, click tablet, Sapped one agroes (WTF > ???) and then Distracted agroes. What about the guys behind the wall??? Well, its only natural to help a friend in need so they come too. Oh, might as well pull that Pat that's 50+ yards out also just because... well... he's there. Good going. You now have 3 on you with one sapped and waiting to get at you too. You have a long Rend timer stacking, and you can only Blind for 10 seconds. So what do you do then??? Well you die of course. After this happens a third time, you want to Pixelate and go there yourself just choke one of them out cold. So why did I say to bring lots of Flash Powder. Cause you should try to survive every chance you get, and finish this quest As Soon As Possible!

On a side note too: Terrain sucks, and you have to NAVIGATE to your body. Making this oh so more enjoyable.

Good look to all not loosing some hair with this!

Insane PATs (I counted about 5-6 SEPERATE groups of PATs at one entrance)...
13 second repeated Rend...

The list can go on and on....

I went in there with 70 waters... I came out with 5.

I found many of the above comments to be a bit exaggerated. While it's true that there are many pats and the mobs are tightly grouped, with careful pulling you should be able to take one at a time. It's true that this is no walk in the park, but I completed the quest in less than 15 mins without ever finding myself in too much danger. In addition, the drop rate from the workers wasn't bad at all, around 25% for me. I got 9/12 quest items as drops. Don't let the comments scare you away; this quest is not simple, but it's definitely doable.

Since this is part of the old Black Temple Attunement quest, it's probably a good idea to be somewhere near going into Black Temple before doing it. Stories about how hard the quest is when you're 68 don't really make much sense when you're trying to do a questline that is comprised mostly of level 70 instances and end game 25 mans, to get attuned to what was once the hardest raid instance in the game.

With a flying mount, you simply plop down beside a tablet, you might have to fight 1 or two workers for it (which also drop tablets), then pick them up. Quest took me 10 minutes.as a PALADIN, a lock/hunter could've easily could've done it in 5.

Flyer's here are CRUCIAL if you don't want to be pulling your hair out for the next hour.

What I did that was effective is grab some other quests in the area (such as dailies), then do a quick fly over, if you see any tablets in the open, grab them, otherwise do your other quests. You don't have to finish it in a day.

If you got nothing better to do, hover around for a while, when a tablet pops up near an easy mob, drop down, nab it, then mount up again. Repeat.

WATCH FOR PATROLS!!!!

Also:

I found the hanging ledge at 57, 37.7 quite handy for getting an overall view, and having peace and quiet for eating/drinking.

DRUIDS! Possibly one of the easiest quests here ever! I just completed this quest and had to share my experience. I tried doing the stealth in kill a guy but they aggro everyone and run and I was about to give up. Then I found out something fun.
Go into flight form and hover above the tablet on the ground.
Go straight down toward the tablet slowly JUST until it turns yellow to pick up.
Even if the guys are standing right next to it you WILL NOT aggro them. You're just low enough to pick up the tablets but not low enough to be in their aggro bubble.
I even had an Overseer walk under(through) me and didnt even blink.

I have been working the edges of the Ruins of Baa'ri for over 90 minutes to get 12 Tablets and for that quest and to kill the ashtongue guys for the Ashtongue Broken quest. I agree with the posters who have said these mobs jump on you like stink on s_it. I have run from these mobs with as many as 9 on me at a time - they spawn randomly out of nowhere, they come running from halfway across the fort, and there are patrols all over the place. So far I've taken two deaths.

This quest line is a bi_ch, and like all other quest lines in Shadowmoon Valley, it has at least one, maybe two, quests in the series that require groups. If I weren't a druid after the Verdant Gloves at the end, I would drop this garbage quest line and go do instances.

You expect herds of mobs in instances, and the risk/reward ratio is a heck of a lot better than this quest line. Good luck to any druids who get stuck with this miserable quest series.

edit: 3rd death just now with 11 Tablets of the 12 you need - this time I ran from the Ruins with eleven mobs on me.

Seriously, what is the big deal? I soloed this at level 70 with my holy specced priest without dying once. I know, I know, I completely l33t roxxorz. Of course it helps with a flying mount, "Mind Soothe" and a good deal of patience. The aggro ranges does not seem to be any greater than on normal mobs, neither does the respawn rate. But of course the place is crawling with linked mobs and wandering patrols, so caution is advised.

As of today, if you find yourself in a tight spot, you can run up a fallen pillar at 58,38 to get away. The mobs won't follow you up the column and after a few seconds they run back to their original positions. Helpful if you get an unintended add or a pat walks up on you

droprate off mobs is rubbish, but thats because the tablets are on the floor (LOL)

use your brains rather than hoping for drops rather than moving your mouse & picking em up!

The biggest problem with this quest is the mobs will run from you if you do get in a fight. So just be careful and mindful about the runners and you should do alright.

This quest is easily done by yourself, but lots of agro around, might be better off with two people. Make sure before you do this quest that you have the quest "The Ashtongue Broken" to go along with it, or, you will have to go back and do a bunch of killing again (Like I did). This quest is obtained at 56, 59 and the other quest is at 54, 58 just behind the Sanctuary on the hill above.

Guys, this is a piece of cake.

Fly to 60,39 and you will find a crack in the wall, a great place to enter from. The workers do drop the tablets about as much as any quest mob drops items throughout the game, and there's plenty on the ground around this area.

Don't listen to the lazy ones above, just do it for your scryer's rep.

I'd like to see the guy who thought this quest was easy. I have died more times trying to do this quest than I have in my entire climb to lvl 69 combined. UUUUUUGGGGGHHHH. Aggro range is huge, lots of guys wandering around all over the place - this quest stinks. Save yourself the aggravation and skip it.

ok these sneak around grab stuff type quests are a specialty of a rogue and this was a pain. Lot's of agro but then in some spots the workers would not even attack so do as you will. I did this solo at 68 ..rogue.....bring plenty of flash powder

This is the worst place I have ever been at. I was going to abandon the quest but I didn't. I went to 60,39 where Methedryne said to go. I saw one tablet there and it was easy to clear out the spot to get it.

I didn't belive it when they say that the workers drop the tablets because I have been killing these things for days to try to finish the quest and what do you know...I got one tablet off a worker. So I guess they do drop from the workers every 5 days.

Arcanist Thelis at the Sanctum of the Stars wants you to collect 12 Baa'ri Tablets from the ground and from Ashtongue Workers at the Ruins of Baa'ri.

Completing quests with the Scryers will cause your Aldor reputation level to decrease.

Description

The Ashtongue Broken have been ordered by Illidan to excavate the Ruins of Baa'ri, to the far north. They're in search of draenei artifacts, no doubt - Baa'ri was home to many Baa'ri relics before Gul'dan buried the town under a volcanic explosion. We must use this opportunity to recover the Tablets of Baa'ri, an ancient text rumored to hold the secrets of the Temple of Karabor... a place you might know as the Black Temple.
