Boss Fight (Normal).

He does a few abilities.

Bellowing Roar: Fears the group (can be resisted/dispelled)
Fearsome Roar: Non stacking debuff that reduces damage done by the party (Up for most of the fight).
Grevious Bite: Causes bleed damage to the tank/main target. Target must be healed to full health to be removed.
Mangling Slash: Does damage and causes the target to take 75% additional damage to bleed effects.
Piercing Slash: Does damage and reduces the target's armor by 75%.

Strat:

Clear all the raptor packs up too and around the stairs. including the first group inside the dred's yard.
Pull engage the boss, and pull him back to the stairs. have your tank stand just outside the entrance to his yard. Position your dps behind him in front of the stairs.
the rest of the fight is a standard tank and spank, making sure your healer is on the ball to remove the Grievous Bite from the tank as soon as it is up.

All damage caused by this boss is physical, so mages amplify magic can be helpful if your healer is having problems.
The fear can be mitigated by berserk stance, tremor totem and other such abilities.
All three bleed debuffs can be up on the tank at the same time. when this happens, the tank will take a large amount of damage.

For heroic mode:

Tank him in the little gateway towards the raptor pens, this will make picking up the adds he spawns during the fight alot easier.

The tactic is to just keep them off-tanked and focus all DPS as heavy as possible on King Dred. The main issue of the fight is the tank getting too much debuffs simultaneously on him, which is purely RNG based. (The tank should save his cooldowns for this.)

Besides that the fight requires some heavy healing and heavy DPS... until people start to outgear the place at least.

Side note: It's an heroic achievement to kill 6 of his adds before you kill him.

Similar to the 2nd boss in Slave Pens, in that the bleed can only be removed by heal the target to full health.

Killing King Dred will not remove these debuffs.

Downed Heroic King Dred without difficulty by having hunter taunt Boss off tank after "raises claws menacingly" emote. A tank with all three debuffs will take massive damage from the triple strike after this emote.

Hunter taunted then kited/disengaged Boss up the stairs and feigned death at top. Boss then strolled back down stairs and tank reacquired threat dominance. Adds were tanked continuously. ( though a good hunter could- and did, trap these too.)

During the kite phase healer removed Grievous Bite, and the other bleed effects timed out. We repeated this 3 times and dropped him quite easily this way. We off healed with an enhance shaman popping his instant heals.

Tameable on Normal Difficulty for Exotic Pet users, have to wait for next expansion before tameable on Heroic because of his level 82, though would result in same pet I guess.

Great fight for Amplify Magic. If you've got a Mage in the group, let him know it's all physical damage. The extra buff to healing on the tank can be the difference between a kill and a wipe. Just remember to remove it afterwards. Wouldn't want the Drakkari Shaman to hit you while you still have Amplify Magic on.

We also have our classes with summonable adds (Mirror Image, Fire Elemental, Army of the Dead, etc.) pull them out when he pulls the other raptors. It gives the tank an extra few seconds to grab aggro, and keeps the raptors off the healer.

Easy Strategy for those who are having issues with adds during this fight:

1. Pull him when he pats closest to the gate.
2. Run about halfway up the stairs.
3. Tank
4. ?
5. Profit

For tanks that do not deal well with adds (Death Knights), this works beautifully. We got one add the entire fight, and he bugged into the wall, and didn't come out until Dred was done.

This greatly reduces damage taken by the tank, and helps the healer a ton.

Hm. This is really really late,but the ONLY reason King Dred is in this instance is because,quote Blizzard:

T-rexes are cool.

No lore really. No purpose other than the urge to have a Dinosaur boss dwelling in the corners of this dungeon.

As a healer I use my PVP trinket for this boss. If I get feared during a stack of bleeds, or get feared out of LOS, it's goodbye tank.

We downed him on heroic last night and this is how we did it. Our group consisted of

Protection paladin (me)
Fury warrior
BM hunter
Fire mage
Holy priest

We tanked him on mid-stairs outside his playground. Me and the fury warrior stood on the first wide step and the ranged dps and the healer stood on the steps above.

Our healer's healing range was 40 yards, so we took our time to maximize her standing spot. The reason for this was King Dred's AOE fear (Bellowing Roar) has a 35 yard range. So our healer did not get feared during the entire fight. This made the fight much easier. She also fear warded me so I could resist the fear effect. If you have a shaman in your group, I would strongly recommend a tremor totem (or the one which interrupts fear - sorry I am not good with names).

We also did not deal with adds when we stood on the stairs. King Dred called our for them but they were not able to come to mid-stairs. Not sure if this is bug or we got lucky though.

It is an extremely healing intensive fight. The healer has to keep the tank topped at 100% as much as she can throughout the fight to avoid the effects of Grievous Bite. DPS has to really lash out to bring the boss down as quickly as possible.

Ranged dps would be invaluable here since melee will get feared and this will distrupt the dps flow.

I just tamed him on my hunter. duh. To help anyone who wants to tame this pet themselves, this is what I did. Which obviously ended succesfully.

First off, he hits like a mad truck. You can't just hope to tame him and live through those 20 seconds by yourself. Get your health and armor increasing buffs and get out there. A fear ward should be used on you as well, as he sometimes fears.

Distracting shot is useful to hold your aggro use should als place damage dealing traps to hold even more. Detterence is good to pop before you begin because of the dodge and parry. Holding aggro is key, you need to be healed, (I had another hunter help out with Misdirects which was very helpful) he virtually 3 shots you.

It took me several attempts but I finally had him. Good luck and happy hunting.

For DKs having problems picking up the adds Dred calls, there is a very simple solution: Keep one blood rune on hand at all times. It will interfere with your rotation slightly, but shouldn't seriously harm your threat. Once the add comes, you can simply use pestilence on Dred and it'll snap to the add, bringing it's attention to you rather than your healer. You can then proceed to tank as normal (but keep a blood rune handy for extra adds).

If you fail to avoid the piercing and/or mangling (followed by the bite, else it's harmless) slash, that's the time to pop a cooldown. You WILL go down like a ton of bricks unless your healer is a godlike figure.

Make sure your healer is aware that he's supposed to top you off if you get the bleed debuff - I've died before, because the healer didn't know. Despite claiming to know the fight. You know how those types are, though ;)

If you're having issues with LoS during fears, just drag him out of the raptor pens and halfway back up the path you came from. You'll only have two ways to run then, back and forward, as opposed to round a corner. Of course, range can become an issue then, but it shouldn't.

This is a pretty straightforward fight, even on heroic, except....

After King Dred "raises his claws menacingly", there's a good chance he'll try all three of his bleed effects in rapid succession. If they all connect, there is no way that ordinary healing can keep the tank up afterward. It's just too much damage. It's even worse if there are any raptors on the tank at the time, as they'll be doing extra damage while Piercing Slash is up.

The healer can:

Make sure the tank is topped off as much as possible.
Put up a damage-absorbing shield on the tank ahead of time.
Queue up a really big heal to land right after the bite.
Blow trinkets cooldowns for haste and spell power.

The tank can:

Use dodge/parry trinkets ahead of time, to try to avoid the bleeds.
Use damage-reducing cooldowns afterward, to give the healer a chance to catch up.

The damage-dealers can:

Help heal the tank if they happen to have a heal button.
Off-tank and/or rapidly kill any raptors that come along, before the bite hits.

There will probably be two of these during the fight. Maybe three. So don't blow all your cooldowns on the first one.

I've only ever tried this once before and it was a little while ago so I have no idea whether it would still work or not. If you're not going for the heroic achievement for this fight and want an easier ride during the heroic mode, something that you could try is this. Opposite the Raptor pen is the large flight of stairs and half way up the stairway is a small level platform. If you tank him on this level platform during the fight, when he calls for a Raptor add, the add spawns inside the staircase and you don't have to worry about dealing with them.

When the fear comes, there's always a chance that you'll run down to the bottom of the staircase and you may have to deal an add should he call for one, that's really the only time you might have to deal with an add.

As I said, I've got no idea whether this still works or not, so if you decide to give it a try, please be warned that it may not work anymore and you might have to deal with all raptor adds that come during the fight. So trying this is upto your own descretion.

I had the help of two hunters, a priest and a warrior. I put on my cheap Stamina set, took haste potion and food/elixer, scroll of Stam, and it was the easiest tame every. King Dred did not get a single fear off. I think luck was on my side. Anyway I got him to 80 today. Great pet. Worth the "braging rights' for those too impatient to wait for King Krush or King Mosh.

Soloed as 80 Endurance DK (Imp Rune Tap, MoG, Crypt Fever, Glyph of DS). Just need to have 24k hp so that DS heals for over 3.5k each time. All quest/craft/rep blues.

It got off Grievous Bite before going down. Without a way to heal to full, I eventually succumbed to the DoT. QQ

After a few wipes my group got a plan.

Tank King Dred in the pathway between the gate to his courtyard and the Aviary you just came out of. Have the King facing the tank towards the aviary while the dps stay behind him.

This helps protect the dps a bit more, and the location means if he fears you won't go off into the courtyard and aggro more mobs.

Hunters.. PLEASE NOTIFY THE GROUP IF YOUR GONNA TAME HIM.. We had a huntard run ahead with cheetah and aggro his ass. By the time we had gotten to the hunter dred had gotten tamed, when we had planned to kill his ass for the loot.

If your a hunter looking to tame this big boy heres a simple strategy.Bring a holy priest and have king dred kill the priest,the priest will then turn into the spirit and can heal you while you tame it without pulling any aggro.Great strategy and what i did to tame him.

Using the new random heroic system, I got into a somewhat fun time with this boss. We cleared all the trash around Dred, and up to Tharon'ja, and then pulled Dred... All the way up. If you plan on doing this, (two bosses at once) be sure you burn Dred down before even starting on Tharon'ja. We had a dps get feared down the "exit" drops to the west. If you really want to challenge yourself, do it like the Horsemen; kill both Dred and Tharon'ja within a matter of seconds of each other.

Beast Mastery Hunter

Tamed as a lvl 80 BM Hunter. Resisted ice trap and beat on me while party watched. Had less than 50 hp after tame. He was level 80 and after taming, went down to lvl 75. I didn't quite understand that.
