The boss has 2 phases which it switches between every ~45 seconds.

Phase1; Have your tank with most hp offtanking, he doesn't need to cause threat (the hurtful strike is done on the player with most hp in melee range instead of the 2nd one on threat), have another tank MTing (obviously). Apart from this the raid should dodge the flame paths, there is no random damage going on, so a part from a slow player taking 1 tick from the flame path there is NO healing on the raid needed in this phase, just on the 2 tanks.
Phase2; Very similair to The Darkener (first add at Kael'Thas). Supremus will gaze on someone and follow him around for 10 seconds. He will also do the knockbacks from a few yards for ~5k dmg, just like the Darkener.
There are a few things which makes this harder though, if he changes gaze and gazes someone relatively far away he will sprint to him untill he's in short range, basically it means you're never 100% safe even if you run very far away.
Also he spawns vulcano's, these are very clear to see and easy to dodge, however, they tick for ~4,5k dmg nearly instantly meaning you will nearly always take a tick.

Some pointers;
1. Afaik there's no enrage timer, so if you want a free kill just make everyone focus on surviving in phase2 instead of doing damage.
2. Phase shift means an aggro reset, DONT have dots ticking if he switches back from phase2 back to phase1 (and don't do big heals etc), its worth using a misdirect every time he switches back to phase1 for safety reasons (the area is HUGE, a tank might not be at Supremus in time)
3. When Supremus is <20% he seems to do a lot more vulcano's, it's very important that you discuss how to deal with this. What we do is; we have the raid kite Supremus around in the area where he's pulled, causing a lot of vulcano's to spawn there (and the tank being unable to safely tank Supremus there the next phase), then have everyone run West to the area you cleared trash after Naj'entus, this should be clear from most vulcano's when phase1 starts if you time it right.

The picture provided by Vladymir looks suspiciously like it was taken on a non blizzard server, because in most cases the bosses are not immune to cc, and you can view the 'Stunned' spiral over Supremus' head in the picture.

This boss has huge resistance in frost and fire. You ll get much partial resist. (thanks again blizzard for making mage the only class who needs to respec in every fight)

I like the DBM names for the 2 phases bacuase they VERY clearly tells (nearly) everything the whole fight.

1 = Tank&spand phase
2 = Kiting phase

And really, it is tanking, spanking and tanking.

The description of Supremus' Hateful Strike ability at the top of this page is inaccurate. It suggests that Hateful Strikes are performed on the player holding second highest threat, when really they are performed on the player with the most HP, regardless of threat.

In 2.4 this guy has grown tremendously. He also will hit a player in his kite phase much further away then he did before the patch.

I have 2 questions regarding phase 2:

1.) How close to him do you have to be in p2 to avoid his charge?

2.) We had volcanoes spawn nearly every 5 seconds (combat-log data) - any way to reduce the spawnrate?

Something to note is that Supremus is very fire resistant. I was playing at the top of my game as a somewhat-undergeared-for-BT fire Mage and my DPS was only 450 or so. It does seem like it is a 50% resist to fire...

The sad thing is that we wiped at 2% and I know that if I had been using frost or arcane then he would have been killed.

If you are going to BT to do mainly this boss you should apart from a tank warrior get a tank paladin with at least 15k health. When you start fighting supremus the pala tank needs to go first and just as soon as supremus starts attacking him he should use divine shield , divine protection or blessing of protection. It is also important for him to have the talent in holy se he can cast healing spells (on him self of course) without interuption by attack. The rest of the group should NOT start healing him immidiatly because one of the healers may get a crit heal and you must remember that when you heal your aggro also rises. You must wait at least 15 secs with healing. Then it goes normal 98% Full range (spells, bows .etc) , then at 95% full Dps. You must watch out when he comes below 20% because he gets a little stronger and the healers must be ready for that. 1 or 2 ppl who can resurrect (priests would be best) should stay out of fight to ress some ppl that die of the volcano. Oh it isnt so good to talk about who takes loot while fighting him i did that once and the healers started to quarell who takes some item , and there was no one left to heal tnk from supremus.

it seems that is kinda bugged. the hateful strike sometimes kills some random melee instead of the offtank. as a rogue its not so good -.-

To reitterate what was said in an earlier post.
Supremus does NOT do "Hurtful Strike" that's Gruul's ability.
Instead he does "HATEful Strike" (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/spell=41926).

This targets the closest person with the highest "current" health, has nothing to do with threat.

This is exactly the same as Patchwerk's version of it (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/spell=28308) only it does more damage.

So this being taken into consideration, the tactics above are not correct. Whilst its highly likely the tanks who are second on agro will have the most health anyway. It means they do not have to be "second" on agro, so them wearing more stam orientated gear could make it easier.

One of the hardest parts of this fight for healers is that he can run all the way across the yard and start phase 2 a few seconds later. This can result in the tank that reaches him first getting stomped before a healer can get in range.

One way to counteract this is to send a healer following each of the tanks, possibly putting raid symbols on them to make them easier to find if line of sight is lost.

Something to note about his hateful strike is that its rage is smaller than his hitbox. It's possible to be hitting him but be out of range of hateful strike. This could be a good thing if you're dps, but bad if you're a tank that's supposed to be taking hatefuls. So, if you tank, make sure to get within his red targeting circle on the ground.

Something my guild noticed this evening against Supremus was that, despite the fact that nothing has stated his gaze will target pets, one of our pets was indeed gazed upon by him during our first practice runs against him. I don't recall him doing anything to the pet, and he quickly seemed to change targets, but he was targeting a hunter pet for a short period at least.

You can avoid his molten flame by Counterspell and earth shock etc., but you need a very quick player to do it.

It seems that his Molten Flame does NOT affect pets, but his Volcanic Geyser DOES.

Its a good idea during phase two to get your pet off of Supremus becuase chances are, he'll 1 shot your pet. Im not entirely sure, but i believe its triggered by a parry. Worse yet, if you choose to res your pet, make sure he doesnt get caught in a volcano. You can res it if you arent speced for it, just make sure you have 4k mana and Aspect of the Viper up; during much of phase two he will get out of range charging to other players, so you'll have plenty of down time to regen mana. I left Viper on and was back to full mana by the time i realized it. Also be aware that volcanoes can pop on you while you res.

Lastly, make sure your pet isnt in a volcano, even if you are not. Volcanoes sprout little blue fireballs about 15 yds away from the base, and only do damage while sprouting fireballs. when it stops sprouting, it will remain in place fora few seconds, but that area is clear.

EDIT: One time my pet bar didnt show, so i couldn't pull him off. If that happens, pray that he doesnt die. mine did.

Supremus is the most powerful known abyssal, and exceptional also in that he is allied with Illidan, rather than the Burning Legion. Most abyssals and infernals seem to be relatively mindless, appearing at their summoner's behest only to wreak destruction -- or as massive front line shocktroops for the Legion -- it is therefore unknown what Illidan might have offered Supremus in order to buy his service. Perhaps Illidan is simply powerful enough to hold him against his will, which might explain the relative lack of other infernal or abyssal servants in the Illidari forces.

Our melee always seems to die unless we have three tanks in melee range instead of 2. Im not a huge fan of this guy though, he just refuses to drop that neck i want....

Me and my guild did him yesterday, very very easy boss. Make sure you run side to side from where he is standing in the gaze phase. Running halfway across the room toward the sewer pipe just makes things more confusing, especially if hes about to go to his tank and spank phase.

Also i put my pet on him for the tank and spank phase no problem, although it should be mentioned that my pet had a very hard time getting behind him. I had to pull him off multiple times so that he wouldnt get parried. In the gaze phase i put him on supremus and he promptly got 1 shotted. Its not that suprremus targets pets, its just there is a tiny delay when he chooses a new target to gaze after, and he uses this time to promptly whoop your pets ass. Whether or not he can kill melee dps in this fashion, i have no idea.

My suggestions to hunters with pets is to throw them on him during tank and spank phase, just make sure he is behind supremus. When it switches to gaze phase, bring him back to your side and make sure he is on passive.

As it's been mentioned, the hateful strikes go to the person with the highest HP (other than than MT). Generally, my guild has noticed that the hatefuls are a little buggy. We can have two offtanks at full 20k health standing right on top of Supremus and he'll still one shot a melee with his hateful. . .

On a side note, Supremus has no elbows. . .

P.s Supremus (probably the biggest boss in the BC) is a great opportunity to pull out your Thunderfury, Moonfire Spam, and Rose Petals.

Its fire resistance is tuned to around 300 when patch 3.0.2 came live.
In fire mages' point of view. Supremus is probably the only buffed TBC raid boss in Echoes of Doom.

Couple tips.

- IF at all possible, have your mages use arcane/frost spells. Fire works, but not as well as the other schools.
- If you have any fire resistance buffs, use em if you can.

Here's a real tough tip. Extremely tough. Here we go.

Don't stand in the fires.

Seriously, I've had a ragtag group of predominately 80s wipe 2 times on this boss because they stood in the fires.

If you see big ol green fel flames below you, move somewhere else, and start attacking again.

First of all, if your raid is low on life, Supremus can be bypassed. Even if you are good, i consider him a waste of time and food, and mana. His drops are not good enough for his strength.

Also, though this is obvious...stay away from the volcanoes, even if it means pulling supremus.

unfortunatley, ive never pssed this guy because after WotLK came out, it was hard getting groups for lvl 70 raids, an ive never gotten a good group 4 em. We passed em but 24 of our 25 died and right after him every1 strated complainingand left :(

Melee DPS should be at low priority for healing during phase 1. It actually benefits them to be around 5-6k health: enough to survive a volcano tick or a few seconds of Molten Flame, but not high enough that they are likely to ever have more HP than the OT.

If you're NOT in melee range, however, this is a good fight to stack HP on when you're learning it. When my guild was learning it we had everyone make sure they had at least 9,700 HP -- according to this Supremus guide that's enough to survive two ticks of a volcano. As ranged it's pretty hard to die at that point as long as the OT stays alive.

Since the fight has a 15min enrage timer you don't need a lot of DPS to bring him down -- you can play it conservatively.

Molten Flame: Blue-flamed fire sent along the ground in a straight line toward random players that deals 3325-3675 fire damage every 1 second while stood on. Ability used every 20 seconds.

Hateful Strike: A massive melee ability applied to the second highest on his aggro list. If there are no other melee targets in range, it will be performed on the main tank instead.

Phase 2

Gaze: Supremus will target a random player and follow that target around for 10 seconds at 90% of normal movement speed. Switches targets after 10 seconds.

Molten Punch: Once a targeted player is within a 40 yard range, Supremus will do a knockback ability for 5250 damage.

Volcanic Geyser: Emoting "the ground begins to crack open", Supremus will summon small volcanoes that spit out blue flames for 4163-4837 fire damage in a 15 yard radius.

General Tips

While in phase 2, if you are not being gazed by Supremus, make sure go all out damage. Aggro is not an issue until the switched phase. If you are melee, stay at a distance right before he chooses another target and then resume damage until the next target is about to be picked.

During phase 2 the healers are watching both the target being gazed any anyone within range of volcanos. Heal over time spells and shields work wonders here.
