5.1 Site Features: New Tooltips and Item Upgrades
Over this past week, the Wowhead team has implemented new site tools reflecting 5.1 changes: many Item Upgrade tools and redesigned tooltips!
Item Upgrades
Upgrading an item via currency is a unique feature added in 5.1 in which players can
permanently upgrade all ilvl 458+ gear by 8 ilvls
. It's not really obvious to calculate how an item will scale up, so we designed a bunch of tools to help you out!
Our
Item Comparison Tool
now supports Item Upgrades. An "Upgrade" option has been added to the item menu (click on the icon to access), which will automatically adjust the tooltip and all the stats. Go to
http://www.wowhead.com/compare
to get started!
Search results now display an "Upgrades" column between "Req." and "Side." This column displays icons if the item can be upgraded, and mousing over an icon shows an upgraded version for easy reference. There is also a new search filter: [url=

5.1 News: New Scenario Rewards, Old-World Boss Nerfs
Today's news round up covers new Blizzard features for scenarios and pet battles, information on just how exactly some of the old-world bosses were nerfed for soloing purposes, and insights into why LFR no longer shows you progress status when joining. We also have some information on new scenario rewards: some epics and recolored armor for transmog fun.
Updated Scenario Loot
WoW Insider
reported yesterday
that scenarios now have improved rewards, including ilvl 476 epics! Here's the details.
Pre 5.1,
Cache of Treasures

In 5.1, players get
Greater Cache of Treasures
from completing any random scenario. This still can contain
Cache of Treasures
, as well as wider variety of loot. Lucky players can find an ilvl 476 epic item or an ilvl 463 weapon, while less-lucky players get an ilvl 450 armor item.
While the 476 items have the same color scheme as the old 463 items for that role, the 450 items have a different color scheme. So if you were say a

5.1 PTR: Legendary and Faction Quests
Since we last covered new quests in 5.1, there's been some big updates we wanted to share about legendary and faction quests. We datamined some possible rewards for the legendary chain in 5.1, including new gems and sockets. Legendary Quests

New Item Upgrade System in 5.1, WoW's 8th Anniversary, BWC Coverage
While 5.1 has a handful of new gear from reputation rewards, the majority of gear upgrades in 5.1 will come through a new currency-based upgrade system. Players can permanently increase the ilvl of their 458+ gear (both armor and weapons) by visiting a new Ethereal and cashing in spare currency.
Wowhead has created several tools for item upgrades:
Each item's page has toggle options to display upgraded stats.
An Upgrade column has been added to search result pages. This displays all the upgrade versions for an item in icon form, similar to dynamic quest rewards. Mousing over these icons will display the upgraded versions.
A new search filter has been added: "Can Be Upgraded" under General.
Advanced tooltip code

Raid Preview: Terrace of Endless Spring
A small PTR patch hit servers early this morning, and while we thought at first that the Darkmoon Faire trinkets were nerfed, it turns out that they are
unchanged
(confirmed by
Daxxarri
)--the mechanisms behind displaying the procs were simply changed to help with scaling mechanics in 5.1. (It's a bit complicated, but most trinkets default display a base ilvl 463 proc you'd get in a Challenge Mode, and are then scaled accordingly on tooltips for higher ilvl items. Full details in
my comment

Daxxarri
No! Bad! Stop pointing to data-mined content as fact. The change that got picked up was actually an adjustment to Darkmoon Card trinkets for Challenge Mode stat scaling.
The other notable addition was
