The parry is very meh. A very expensive stat (ilevel-wise) with very little to give in return. The gem slot is nice for a stam gem, so I guess if I was going for a stamina set, this would be the ring to pick. Avoidance-wise, I'd pass. The expertise, though, is quite nice and so is the armor. All in all, pretty bad avoidance ring but seems to be a good threat, stam, and mitigation ring.

I picked this up last week off XT and I'm quite disappointed with it. For a hard-mode item and iLv226, they should really have itemized this better. Blizz stated in the past "item level isn't everything" when talking about 10man hardmode loot, so you would think that 10man 226 loot would have really nice stats. Definitely not the case with this ring.

Main problem with this ring is that there is no defense rating on it, a lot of parry is not ideal but avoidance is avoidance and you can't only stack dodge with DR, so all in all not a terrible ring, best for 2h DK tanks.

Our warrior tank picked this up last night he is way over the def cap and has like 40% dodge so the 96 stam is great and the parry make this a genuine upgrade for him. Not the best itemisation but clearly the stam is great.

This Ring seems somewhat under budget.

Comparing it to The Leviathan's Coil of the same item level:
35 parry, 22 expertise and 1 socket vs.
22 sta, 23 str, 32 def and 34 dodge.

Points wise, the parry should be equal to the dodge and the str roughly equal to the expertise, which means 1 socket would stand against 22 sta + 32 def and that can't be right.

why is this tank ring dissapointing? because of the low expertise, because of the parry? no, i'm afraid it's because armor as a ring stat costs too much item budget and the amount of mitigation the provided amount gives, is utterly negligible.
if you get tons of armor from either a shield or by multiplying leather or plate, that's generally all the armor you need, putting it on a ring is just an overcosted nonstat that just sucks up item budget when you could be doing something useful like dodging, parrying, blocking... god agility's more useful a mitigation stat for tanks even death knights because things such as polearms for tanking on a dk like that one that drops in the new ToC instance with a socket in it allows a decent amount of stam, and despite the lack of strength, the dodge you get from it generally makes up for the parry rating lost in the form of dodge, crit and armor. that said it still helps if you use a slow polearm for the damage.

I'm really not sure if the armor that you gain from that ring is comparable to the stats you loose against Mark of the Relentless for example.

Since I have to disagree with most of previouse posts, I'll say the following about that ring : can be an upgrade comparing it with https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=47243 (Mark of the rentless, the ring that drops from 1st boss in totc 5, heroic version)

I'm not a math expert on effective health calculation, but based on http://www.tankspot.com/index.php?pageid=Calculator, my effective health actually increases with the use of that ring.

Just compare my stats (warrior tank, 5/5 on toughness, 3/3 on Vitality, unbufed, and having both rings gemed with https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=40119) :

With https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=47243, I have

40332 HP
27065 armor
28,11% dodge
19,94% parry
16,6% SBR
1429 SBV

the results are

Effective Health : 121895,31
Total damage reduction : 85,95% (I presume it's a percentage)

with https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=45871, I have

40082 HP
27513 armor
27,67% dodge
20,02% parry
16,6% SBR
1422 SBV

results are :

Effective Health : 122387,11
Total damage reduction : 86,1%

In terms of effective health this ring IS an upgrade (small, but it is), if you're fighting a boss that mostly inflicts physical damage.
Ofc, for fights when most of the damage is spell damage, you may wanna get your stamina up a bit, but don't discard this ring right away, this is definitly my choise along with https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=47731

People have the strange habbit of ignoring armor right from the begining, and to be honest, it's something I just can't understand. Armor makes hits going softer on you, and in my opinion, since I have an alt healer, more predictable to them, and that's one of my goals when tanking for my guild. Avoidance is a percentage, armor and stam are ALWAYS there. And in this case, more armor can be better then more stamina.
Hope this post will help with some indicision you might have between those 2 rings.
