Please tell me this isn't the highest level axe for blacksmithing in WotLK. I wonder if Blizzard will add some epic quality axes in the next patch.

Currently the best craftable green-quality weapon in the game for enchanters to Disenchant in hopes of Infinite Dust or Greater Cosmic Essence. Tested and proven.

This is great for disenchanting, I usually (90%) get 1, sometimes 2 Greater Cosmic Essence.

This is a goldmine for enchanters. A stack of cobalt sells for 30g on my realm.

30g will get you 2 of these Axes, just have a guildie make 'em for you. Disenchant and you will normally get at least 2 Greater Cosmic Essences which can be sold for 40-50g.

Don't see why Ashfield's comment was downrated, as it is 100% accurate, aside from the AH prices because they are different on every server.

As a miner/enchanter, I make my gold from mining. I tip blacksmiths to use my saronite and titansteel to create blue and epic items for me to sell on AH. But I didnt really make much use of my cobalt until I discovered this item. It is the ONLY green item a blacksmith can make that requires 350 enchanting instead of 325 to disenchant, meaning it will yield 1-5 dusts or 1-2 greater essences instead of 1-2 dusts and lesser essences for other greens that require 325.

For all the other mining/enchanting combos out there, this is the best way to use your unwanted cobalt.

Edit: I missed another blacksmithing item that is even cheaper than this and still requires 350 enchanting. Horned Cobalt Helm costs only 8 Cobalt Bars. However, it is an armor piece and this is a weapon. This axe is still your best bet for Greater Essences, while the helm is better for Dusts.

I can confirm bout the DE stuff. I crafted roughly 60 of these n DEed em with a few other green drops n final numed of mats was 100 Greater Cosmic Essences 75 Infinate Dust n got 1 Shard.

The enchanting information on this weapon is inaccurate. It currently disenchants as one-tier lower, as in:

75% 1-2 Lesser Cosmic Essence
25% 1-2 Infinite Dust
5% Small Dream Shard

For blacksmiths this is the best weapon/armour you can make for money as long as you have an alt or friend with enchanting.

On my server you can buy a stack of cobalt ore/bars for 20g on the AH so you can make two of these per stack. Disenchanting this axe (if wowhead's figures for DEing are right) has a 75% chance to give 1-2 Greater Cosmic Essences which sell for ~17g each on my server. You also have a 22% chance of getting 2-5 Infinite Dust which sell for ~3.5g each, and finally a 3% chance of getting a Large Dream Shard which go for ~16g. Obviously the more these go for on the AH the more money you will make.

So from selling the mats you get from DEing 100 of these axes I would make 2230g on average, minus the cost of 1000g for the cobalt and you are 1230g in pocket.

This is a return ratio of 2.23 : 1 (meaning if you spend 1g on this you will make 2.23g on average)

I also worked out the figures for another popular DEing BS item, the Horned Cobalt Helm. Although it only requires 8 cobalt bars to make it DEs into dust most of the time which is much less valuble than greater cosmic essences. The returns ratio for the helm is 1.68 : 1, still good, but nowhere near as good as this axe. (I have also found that the essences are much easier to sell.)

This is the theory anyway, I an currently trying this on my server and will post again with the results and how much I make. Hopefully this will help to dispell the rumour that BS is crap at making money.

this is one of the most easily obtained BS patterns that will likely disenchant into Greater Cosmic Essence. I just DE'd 10 and received 12 GCE and 10 Infinite Dust
