Highest droprate is off the Sentries. The other mobs drop the samples, however the droprate seems significantly lower.

I think it is fixed, the drop rate is higher than i imagined of the above comments. not sure but it was easy quest for me, the drop rate was high from all kinds of ogres in these coordinates 37,27.

Do this quest with WANTED: Boss Grog'ak (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/quest=9820) most ogres drop the mushrooms and Boss Grog'ak can be found around their.

this quest is easy, but make sure you can take more than one at a time, seeing there is maybe 20 to 25 there at a time, and other classes such as shammans and mages will have AOE fests often, ur gonna want to snag the kills, or group with the person.

This quest is about as ridiculously tedious as the one where you need to collect Centaur ears, and it turns out that only about 1/5 Centaur actually have a pair of ears on their head. Drop rate is ridiculous, had to kill well over 50 ogres to finish this. Someone mentioned that Ogre Sentry's have a better spawn rate, but didn't notice any difference from the other ogres.

I stayed in the area where Boss Grog'ak (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/npc=18159) spawns and walks around and killed him every chance I got. A Mushroom Sample dropped everytime. He seemed to be on a 3-5 min spawn timer. Of course, kill other ogres while you wait for him to spawn :)

I found alot of glowcaps, which is a quest when you are neutral or friendly with spore's. You may want to pick up any of these. They are orange glowing mushrooms on the ground

For my 63 Frost Mage... AWESOME aoe grind spot, just stay away from the Warlocks... 600ish xp a kill and you can easily round up 5-6+ ogres, and they go down in 3 blizzards. =) <3 Mages.

Terrible drop rate (i'd say about 1 in 9), no cloth to speak of. really a waste of time! I really wish Blizzard would try AI instead of random number generators or just be consistent.

Go for the shaman. I just killled 4 of them and received 4 mushrooms. Before that, I killed nearly 10 Ogres and received none.

Indeed 33,38 are perfect coords

Rogues can pickpocket the ogres for strong junkboxes. A droprate of 5%.

This way I got my lockpicking-skill upto 325 :)

I did this level 70 for some Cenarion Expedition rep.

Since they're only level 62-63, I ran in, aggroed 7-8 of them and used my fire elemental.
I didn't get a single Mushroom Sample from this. After I just killed them on my own and they dropped them at about a 50%.

I tried the fire elemental again 20 minutes later, and again they did not drop any samples.

I'm not sure if it's a glitch, the fire elemental or just the face that they don't drop if they're attacked by fire, but just to let you know, don't use your fire elemental on them to get samples.

If you don't feel like grinding the low drop rate try this:

Run around on your mount..epic is best so the chances u get dazed is small
Aggro 1 ogre ..
if it says "You no take mushroom!" kill it for a shroom
if it doesn't talk kite him till right before it evades and aggro another

Rinse and repeat.

If you chain aggro Ogres from kiting..its harder to tell which one is talking. So say you aggro #1, run to the next and aggro it..and run up to the 3rd..than at the 4th, ur log shows "You no take mushroom!"... good luck trying to determine which one said it

Fairly decent drop rate id say around 40%, the boss did have 100% drop rate for me, but the ogres i think had better drop rate than the shamans but it could just be me.

The drop rate sucks! I spent over an hour killing Ogres... I ended up gaining 2 bars of XP from killing these guys and I was at level 65. Thanks for another lame quest that reiterates how Bliz loves to make people grind. >.<

It's really a hit or miss drop rate. And it varies throughout the quest. For instance, I had to do the quest with the plans.

Well, before I went to get the plans, I got 8 mushrooms, and it varied anywhere from 2-5 kills between each mushroom.

However, the moment I came back, it took me about 6 or 7 kills before I got one, then I got 4 in a row. o_O Then after that, I was averaging a mushroom after every two kills. So it really varies throughout the quest.

The ogres do use Kick very often, so this quest is even harder for someone who is highly specced (like my Fire Mage.)

Horrific drop rate, no joke. Lots of people seemed to be having way more luck than I did. I got one mushroom every 6-10 kills. It was just miserable. I hope Blizzard kicks it up somehow, or maybe my luck just isn't paying.

I'm having the best luck finding the samples off the ogre's but definately an easy quest. They drop the two things I need, money and netherweave cloth (for 1st aid). I did this quest with the Glowcap mushrooms and Wanted Boss Grog'ak.

This really doesn't have anything helpful to do with this quest... I just wanted to say, I think Boss Grog'ak's armor is very funny... he has his big ogre b00bs and belly protected but like nothing else! Haha

Just did this with my 63 fire mage. I stayed near the Harborage and made a little circle, taking one out at a time. Near the root end of the big felled mushroom. Anyway, not so many glowcaps but I got my 15 in about 3 circles. Got tons of cloth, too. Easy quest with good grindage.

I would suggest killing the sentry's especially if your a caster.

Been doing this quest, and the damage those shadowbolt's do to me as a druid is.. sore..

The sentry's you can just entangle or whatever and then starfire or something. But warlocks = evil :(

I had to kill 29 for my 15 drops. Ogre's or Shaman's, doesn't really matter wich one. Also when you're doing this, you can also get around 10 Glowcaps that also spawn in the area.

Theres a little patch of land that has Boss Grog'ak (hes a boss in name only) on it, he and his immediate friends droped teh shrooms a lot better than the others ogres.

I found the mushrooms are dropped at a better rate when killing the Brutes and warlocks, actually at the Ango`rosh encampment. Located south of the path that leads to the maulers and overlord gorefist

The Hewn Bog doesn't drop much,, 1/18 kills for me, but go over the Angrosh grounds and i got 14/15. The Named always drops one ( the 2 times i killed him anyway.

The drop rate isn't high but it isn't real low either, the nice thing is that their is a lot of ogres in the bog so you don't have to wait for respawns. you get drops off of all the ogre mobs in the bog.

For me, it worked best to start with Boss Grog'ak at loc (34, 34). He drops a Mushroom Sample almost everytime. Then hunt the regular Ogres while your waiting for him to respawn. The regular ogres do not seem to have a very good drop rate.

I'd say patch 2.4 raised the drop rate - I'm getting near 100% drops in that area now, Shamans and Ogres alike - haven't even tried any named characters, and probably won't even work my way that far into the crowd before 15/15.

I had much better luck around the island at 30,33. I killed more shamans because I can sap their mana...but they seemed to drop pretty well on both. Better than many other drop quests I've done.

Why are people complaining about a 50% drop rate? I've just completed this quest as a lvl 64 rogue and found it a piece of cake. My drop rate was 15/29 or approx. 50% as I have already said...However I did this quest while on rested double XP and was getting about 1000XP per kill so as well as pickpocketing them (good rate of strong junkboxes dropped)

Also only once did I aggro 2 mobs and that was while picking up a Glowcap Mushroom!...which are fairly abundant in the area.

So by my reckoning (assuming you are on rested bonus) you will get over 40k XP for doing this quest (between kills and hand in XP) ....SO WHY COMPLAIN?

So thats 15:31 meaning 1 drop every 2.06 kills. Not bad if I do say so myself. Oh yeh. I know you guys get different drop rates but putting mine down helps other people! The ones with no drops in 40 mins could just be anomilies.(I can't spell that word)

To complete this quest you need to collect 15 Mushroom Samples and return them to Watcher Leesa'oh at the Cenarion Watchpost.

Make your way to the north of the Cenarion Watchpost and pass by Zabra'jin. Slightly to the north you will enter the location populated by ogres
You can loot Mushroom Sample from - both Ango'rosh Ogres and Ango'rosh Shamans - drop chance is medium, the only problem is that you need so many of them.

The ogres and shamans are pretty heavily farmed atm so I decided to go further west and kill the ango'rosh sentrys around the towers at ango'rosh grounds, they respawn fast and I got a mushroom almost every drop.

Around 35, 34 there is a large bone looking thing. This is where Boss Grog'ak spawns. He always drops one. As another poster commented many years ago, the meta for this quest is to kill him every time he spawns, kill everything else in this area while you wait, gather your glowcaps, and prepare to waste an hour of your life on this quest. This remains true in TBCC.

Yes, that's it, I knew I had seen this particular phylum of mushroom elsewhere in the marsh!

To the north is a place known as the Hewn Bog. Odd name for the place if you ask me, but I've never been there. I'll need samples of those mushrooms to confirm my hypothesis.

Just be careful, <class>. I'd heard that ogres have moved in to the area, so you'll have to get the samples from them. Could that be why the bog lords are no longer going there for their food?
