Is anyone else having problems with the Ultra-Shrinker disappearing? I've done this quest two times and after awhile I can't find it in my bags anymore. Is this a bug? Or is there some sneaky devil who keeps coming to my computer and deleting it?

It seems like any giant in Feralas works. As stated above, Horde can do Mountain Giant Muisek (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/quest=3127) at the same time as this quest.

The zapper does not trigger the global cooldown, which I found very helpful as a caster. It does have a 30 second cooldown, though, and it took about 20 seconds on average to kill a zapped giant as a level 50 shadow priest.

The zapper disappears after 2 hours. If you started the quest, you have to abandon it and get it again. When you abandon the quest, any Miniaturization Residue you collected disappears.

Instead of saying "Use:Zap a Feralas giant into a more managable size", I'd say, "Use:Shrinks a Feralas giant to a smaller size, and makes it normal ." e.i., the quest's incredibly easy as a level 47 hunter.

Didn't notice if this was mentioned above but the zapper can actually chain, i found it a bit more interesting :D to aggro 2 and then use it, they both get the anti elite effect.

With my frost mage I found the sea giants along the Forgotten Coast to be annoying and tricky to take down. They have a high resistance to frost and hit hard (yes even as non-elites). At least the elementals in the same area don't hit that hard.

Here's something interesting! If there are a couple giants near one another, and you shoot one, the "transmogrify" beam will hit one and then bounce to the others, much like Chain Lightning. I am not sure how many giants it can hit at once, but it can definitely shrink at least two at the same time.

So you get the quest from a lil goblin near the coast. Up and down that same coast are Wave Striders you can kill that will drop the Miniaturization Residue. I started doing this .... until i realized the other quests i had.

If you go to 41, 21 in the Twin colossals, there are Giants up there you can zap and kill. They drop Metallic Fragments as well as the Miniaturization Residue. AND if you have the Muisek quests, you can get the Mountain Giant Muisek from them as well.

THREE quests done in one area.
PLEASE go up to 41,21 and dont waste yer time on the shore.

Get the water elemental cores later... most of those you can get without even going in the water. This saves you water breathing potions, or recasting the water spell for locks.

Just a quick note about the quests for Metallic Fragments and Mountain Giant Muisek; these are Horde quests only. If you are Alliance it is much faster to get this quest done on the coast. And while you're there, pick up Fuel for the Zapping as well.

The coordinates are 39,21 for the giants.

You can also get Ironfur livers and Groddoc livers for the quest "Rhapsody's Kalimdor Kocktail" from Hinterlands in this area. But they are a little easier to get around 58,56.

I found a glitch that I didn't see posted already: if you zap the giants in the water and fight them while floating in the water (they are on the seabed), they can't hit you. I only discovered this on my last 2 kills so I didn't play around with it much, but both times neither giant hit me once. I should mention that I brought the giants close enough to shore that their heads were sticking out of the water but I was still in deep enough to be swimming -- don't know if that makes a difference or not tho.

As a 46 Frost Mage, I thought this was a simple quest, minus the part where they're immune to Frost Bolt. They are not always immune to Frost Nova though, so I just Fireball'd them, Frost Nova, then do some arcane missles and Fire Blast. Pretty simple and didn't take a lot of time either; just the way I like 'em!

For those who are doing the Insane in the Membrane achievement; I suggest you to avoid this repeatable q since only the first time grants you with 375 reputation, the follow ups give only 25 reputation and the 30sec CD is way too long.

Still DM seems like the best option to gain the cartel reputation up to neutral/friendly again if you have still quests in BB/rachet etc.

The perfect spot to get the best bang for your buck is at . It's a nice big mound you can stand on, next to a spawning point for a bunch of Cliff Giants and Land Walkers. You can get a good view of the area and pick your targets before using your zapper.

Just watch out for the ones that might sneak up behind you while you're aiming. Chain-pulls on these guys are a pain.

Oh yes - and unless you have more armor than God, wait to zap the Land Walkers until they're less than 10 yards away. It's a WHOLE LOT easier to nail them in melee than when they're throwing boulders at you.

As of 3.3, it seems that the giants along the coast are no longer valid for this quest. I tried to use the zapper on 5 or 6 different giants there and red text came up on my screen that said I needed to find a valid target.

With lots of others around, we run out of giants, but for druids this is not a problem. Half the giants are under the water. Prowl in aquatic form, find a giant, shift, shrink him, Faerie Fire, Moon Fire, shift Bear, finish him off, shift aquatic, regain breath, off to the next one. Lovely.

This quest has a funny quirk. Zorbin's Ultra Shrinker kept disappearing from my backpack. But I found that you can abandon the quest and pick it up again, the Shrinker is back and you don't lose the quest objectives (miniaturization reside).

The sword isn't wonderful (useless to druids) but 4400XP & 71S. A good way to spend 20 minutes.

You have to shrink those giants within two hours - otherwise the Shrinker will disappear. No need to hurry, but don't log out for too long ;-) You'll find many giants in the moutains in the north.

An easy way to complete the Mountain Giant Muisek quest is to do it with this "Zapped Giant" quest. After you shrink the Giant with the zapper and kill him, you can use the Muisek device from the Mountain Giant Muisek quest to create the muiseks items. You need 15 Minaturized Residue for this quest and 7 Mountain Giant Muisek for the other quest. Even if you complete Zapped Giant, it's repeatible. So you can get the shrinker again and still complete both quests. Both the "Zapped Giant" and "Fuel for the Zapper" are repeatible and gives you reputation for the Steamwheedle Cartel in Gadgetstan. So if you want to improve your rep in Tanaris, do these quests over and over again. When you complete them a 2nd time you get 550XP and 21s. That's it. I found that killing the giants and getting the residue was much easier then trying to get the Water Elemental Core from the Sea Elementals. Hopefully this info helps someone.

Don't worry if the 2 hour time limit expires. Just abandon the quest and pick it up again, and you will get a new one. You will not loose any residue you have picked up so far.

A buddy of mine and myself were on this quest and we found that when attacked the giants while they were elite and then used the shrink gun, we still got XP as if we had killed an elite. Something like almost 300 extra XP per kill. Neat little glitch

Finshed both quests (Fueling the Zapper and Zapping the Giants)from shore and in the south. Fifteen giants to finish that quest took quite a few to do the Elementals. At first I thought the Sea Spray's wouldn't drop because I killed so many and got nothing but then I finally got a drop from one. Had to kill a lot to collect ten. Good XP from killing mobs, about 500 a pop and then 8800 for the quests. No thrilling drops but good place to grind for a while. Lot of mobs in a small area.

I got silver, some cloth, and residue out of every one. Plus, taking away the elite made it awesome for a 47 warrior. Charge, zap, kill, repeat.

Glad it isn't like those quests that make hours for five items.

This is real easy. The first two quest are about water elemental and residue. That's easy. I, a lvl 46 mage, did it all quite well. I even took down lvl 49.

Anyway, once you've done the quest you're handed two more for 10 residue and 6 water elementals. The quest for me is red, since I am lvl 46, but it's the same mobs so... no worries on my part, real easy

I do think, however, that this quest is bugged, cuz even though i Zapped the giants into smaller forms they were still elite, pretty weird, but the drop chance was 100%

As a 45 mage, I found this difficult. The zapped giants were resisting over 40% of my spells... Is this supposed to happen?

This quest was very frustrating for me. I'm a 48 mage and they resisted just about half of all my attacks when shrunk. I did the quest along with the one to kill the water elementals (who are immune to frost) and did not have a good time :(

The above posts state that if you do not finish in the alotted time of 2 hours (which is not stated in the quest) that you do not lose your residue samplesw when you abandon and renue the quest. This may have been the case a while back however, when I abandoned the quest after capturing 14 out of 15.... the 14 I had collected disappeared. Had tostart over (for the 3rd time!) If there are more people trying to kill the giants while you are, don't waste your time! It's not worth the reward.

Don't know how much these giants resist shadow/holy, but they sure as hell resist tons of frost and fire damage. As a mage this quest was a bit of a pain in the ass. It resisted about 8 spells in a row, including 2 frost nova (was getting pwned, tried to nova, resist, cold snap, frost nova, resist, dead).

Bad quest.

Get both quests. From the quest giver run south down the coast and you will find both. I mounted to cover more ground and was able to dodge some of the elementals to get to the giants. I put the zapper on an action bar, clicked the giant, clicked the zapper and he would shrink. I hit the elementals only when I had to because of the time limit on the giants but two hours is plenty of time. Some of the giants at least disappear into the water so its hard to tell how many they are. When I got as far south as the river I turned back and ran back and forth between the river mouth and the goblin. Worked great. FWIW I would zap, shield, shadow word pain, mind blast and wand until they went down.

My advice to anyone taking this quest is stay out of the water if like me you find it difficult to fight in the water.

Mainly because you stand a higher chance of being piled by two in the water (sometimes 2+ spawn real close together)and unless you're a druid, running from these mobs in water is nye on impossible.

Pretty easy on the shore though once shrunk. I completed this quest alongside 'Fuel for the Zapping'

staying in the water is def your best bet.. there are twice as many. only downfall is u may have to surface and go to land to rep your mana back. But still better then staying on coastline

When I did this quest a moment ago, I made a big mistake by thinking that I could only find these giants on the beaches (3 in the southern part and 1 in the northern) I backtracked the two parts of the beach until I suddenly discovered they there was loads of them beneath the water surface!

So don't make the same mistake as I did -

There are lots of giants below the water surface!

TO ALL MAGES:

The giants and water elemental can be abit tricky for frostmages. Giants have very high frostresistance, so he will resist like 50% of your frostspells, depends on your level. The waterelementals are imune to frost, so you have to use fire on them.

They don't have their elite status removed, but Zapped giants have FAR less Strength and Stamina than the unzapped kind, making them soloable at about 46-47, depending on your class. I suggest bringing a partner for this quest, since the giants are surrounded by 47-49 elementals and they are a real pain to kill solo.

The best part is that you get to keep the shrinkray after you've turned in the quest. It has a 60-minute 'timer' so you have at least that long to play with it, zapping the giants and looting them for the rather large silver/mageweave drop rates they have.

You can't disband the quest to repick up your zapper without losing the residues you already had. I did that today like someone mentioned in a below post and everything was lost. Just get the quest completed during the timer thats on the zapper. You have 2hrs from the time you get it.

Easily solo'd as a lvl 45 warlock. What you need to do is use the Unending Breath spell (or a potion) and swim along just offshore. You'll see only giants, no elementals. I guess it would also work without the underwater breathing if you swim along the surface. But swimming is far easier than killing all the elementals on the beach.

Did it in about 25 minutes. Drop rate is 100%.

Info on Quest: These giants are all long the beach to the south when you get off the boat. Very Simple...Zap and start attacking.

I highly recommend that you do "Natural Materials" quest (if you haven't done it already) while you have the "zapper" to kill the giants around coords 40,28 area to get the Metallic Fragments needed for that quest.
The "zapper" reduces the giants from Elite to regular and are far easier to kill this way. I had a 100% drop rate of the Metallic Fragments from those giants. I already had the Miniaturization Residue so I don't know if it drops from those giants or not.

Giant wave striders are situated along the coast both left and right from quest giver. You can see them from land however a lot more are found a few metres off the coast under the water a trip up the beach and back down should get you 15 then turn in task.

As noted above the quest has a time limit if you don't complete on first attempt quit the quest and get again from the quest giver to try again . . .yes unfortunately you will lose all your previously gained residue !

I orginally began this quest to help make it easier to complete the final part of Mountain Giant Muisek (Elite). (Ultra-Shrinker works on all giants)

So after I completed that quest and Zapped Giants, I went back to turn in, just to repeat it...

Mind you, these giants drop alot of nice items, but just before my very last minute was about to expire on the Ultra Zapper, the Robes of Insight drop.

Even without the drop, this quest was fun, and having to shrink zap giants that badly need a colon cleansing made it that much better.

Actually, after you zap them, if you clear your target and then retarget the giant, they'll have lost the gold dragon. So, they really do lose their elite status; it just doesn't automatically update.

I know the giants along the shore where you get this quest drop the Miniaturization Residue.
If you READ the quest, Zorbin complains about the giants bothering him, so it's easy to realize that the giants are close by him. Just had South from him along the shoreline and sooner or later you will see the giants. They spawn fast enough that if you go South till the beach ends at the mountains, you can kill them again heading back North, rinse and repeat until you have all you need.

Questgiver is on pier for da boat that goes to feathermoon (if you're a druid with SEAL, its faster to swim lol, since the boat takes the scenic route), take both quests so you can do 'em at the same time, the enemies are grouped together.

You find giants, also you can search underwater (as others have said), in fact in some areas you see one giant on shore and swim out and look under water and you'll see 2 others. There are no coords 4 the giants since they're all over the coast.

a tip for drawing giants from the horde of elementals, you can thin out the crowd (if doing the elemental sister quest) or approach perpendicular to the the beach . . . to draw out the giants inland or come from the sea.

The shrink ray has a decent range, so you can "cast" it, I put on my tool bar . . . and coolest is it nerfs them. At 47 on a druid they didn't hit hard while in caster . . .

The coolest thing is this is repeatable, if you want to grind giants . .. Repeat quests only give rep and silver .. . NO EXP.

As a 44-45 hunter I was able to solo the zapped ones up to level 50, if there wasn't an add/link. It's tough, but possible at that level. And I'm not sure if it's changed it, but it's a 2 hour timer on the zapper, not 1 hour like previously mentioned.

Once zapping the giants, the only way to tell they are no longer elite is their name changes to "zapped " and they are somewhat smaller. They still keep the gold dragon around their user icon, which can be deceiving.

I must be doing this wrong because when I shrink and kill a giant I get nothing from it. I am not getting any of the dust and I have killed around thirty of the things, the ones on the coast and the ones in northern Feralas, the stone ones.

Very easy quest to complete- just stay right around the water and you will find them all.

In the quest "Zapped Giants", the miniaturization ray gun disappears from the inventory if the quest is only half completed and you log out.
The only way to get the miniaturization ray gun again is to abandon the quest, and then pick it up again.
However upon doing this, you lose any quest items (miniaturization residue) that you may have gained from previously starting the quest.
I previously had 10/15, and now I have to start again from scratch.
Just thought you should know.

The giants are located along the coast, north and south of the dock at 43,43. When you zap them, they are no longer elite and very easy to kill. The elementals may try to mess with you, but you probably don't have to kill any to get to the giants, unless you are doing the other quest.

Drop rate for me was 100%. They spawn very quickly, so it is a fast quest.

I don't quite understand the hussle around the quest. It's pretty straight forward, you go around the beach, use the quest item on a giant, and kill it, then you loot the residue. Maybe I was super lucky, but every zapped giant dropped one. Also, the quest item forms an arch. Which means if there are 2 giants next to each other, the zap affects both of them. Like a green chain lightning. Pretty neat. Done on a 47 rogue in about 1 hour or EU - Mirage Raceway.

Just keep in mind that when you accept this quest, it's like a delivery quest, an escort quest or any other timed quest. If you don't finish it in time, you lose everything; most of all the time you spent attempting to do it. There's nothing scenic or special in any way about this quest; it's filler. If you have a complicated schedule, just ignore it. The XP is OK but Zorbin's "Mega-Slicer" is like a party favor at this level. Don't forget: time is the only thing you can't buy any more of.

I got 14/15 residue, then had to go afk for a while. I came back to find the zapper gone and no way to complete. Abandon and retake, I guess.

Note that completing this quest along with Fuel for the Zapping unlocks this NPC as a vendor, which can be much more convenient than making the trip across to Feathermoon Isle.
Also, after completion, the quest becomes repeatable for XP and Steamwheedle Cartel rep.

Spotted this mob at around 45,24 and it was stuck in one spot. Asked in general chat if any hunters wanted it but nobody did. I then laid a few dots on him but he kept evading. Eventually got the dots to stack up and he was 5% from dying and evaded again. Tabbed out to this forum and a minute later he was gone. Searched around and found no trace of him.

Zapped Giants

Use Zorbin's Ultra-Shrinker to zap any kind of giant found in Feralas into a more manageable form. Bring 15 Miniaturization Residues found on the zapped versions of these giants to Zorbin Fandazzle at the docks of the Forgotten Coast, Feralas.

I'm going to have to do something about the giants if I stay out here! They're certainly not good for business, now are they?

I've been working on a variant of a gnomish shrinking ray, but I'm using superior GOBLIN technological advances in its construction! In an effort to avoid inconveniences for myself such as death, I'd like for you to try it out on any of the giants in Feralas. You should find miniaturization residue on them after you shrink them - bring me back some!
