This is probably a quest that can be tailored to your level. As SJ stated, any of the bloodsails will drop this. That means the level 40 mages and the tougher level 44 warlocks both drop it, so if you're on a grind to 40, this can help, if you're trying desperately to level up so you can get out of STV and on to tanaris, this is also a great quest to do. Don't ignore this quest! You'll get quite a bit of experience while farming for the quest items.

This isn't a bad quest, but it is a bit of a pain. The drop rate is pretty bad so don't think this is one of those five-minute quests. At least you get volitale rum drops for sale or engineering.

Awful quest if your lvl 42. Did this as a 42 hunter and the drop rate was horrible, took forever to find 15 Snuff, and only received;

Just combine it with the quest involving killing the swashbucklers. You need to kill 10 of them and find the plans and orders. Easily done when you combine them.

Absolutely horrible drop rate. Very frustrating. I'd be surprised if I was getting a 5% rate.

EDIT: On the bright side, I gained just short of 60,000 XP at approximately 400-500 XP per kill.

Horrible quest as a warrior. If you're doing this on the Wild Shore the Swashbucklers will disarm you and the Warlocks are usually close together and wander quite a bit, so don't be surprised at aggroing more than 1 and taking massive shadow damage. Good luck on this one with the terrible drop rate too. The only up side is you'll probably get a lot of experience because of the sheer amount of mobs needed to be killed.

Having done this on 5 or 6 different characters, my experience is that the Bloodsail on the ships (Bloodsail Deckhand, Bloodsail Seadog, etc) drop the snuff more often than their counterparts along the beach.

I soloed this quest at level 37 "warlock". Took me quite long but after an half an hour farming I got all my snuff.

This quest gives since latest patch 2.3 "2250" xp

So far I've noticed that the Mages and the Raiders have the highest drop rate. While I've only needed a handful by the time I found this area, I've had them drop off each mob to finish off the quest quite quickly. Despite the fact that it took me forever to get the first 10.

this quest takes some time. The drop rate was somewhat low for me. If you are coming out of BB go right to the Wild Shore. Theses pirates will drop them, and you might want to also do the quest The Bloodsail Buccaners!!

Bloodsail pirates have lowly armor ,but DMG this pirates are very strong ! Generalship fight with pirates is : be using a magic shield (mage,paladin,priest) , minions (warlock) , stunned (rogue or sometimes even warrior) . Others class (hunter,shaman) donť have any problem with pirates , hunter = be using pet , shaman = totems + weapons .

I know ! I much writing but it is good instruction on a quest by a much xp !!

Easy to accomplish as of 2.3 update. At about 30,88 there are 3 boats anchored. Swim out to one, go thru it... and so on. I had 13 of the required 15 snuff by the time I made it thru the 3 ships and alot of other goodies. I ran the deck of one ship a 2nd time and filled the quest.

Start at 27,69 and slay the group that includes "pretty boy duncan". move across the bridge and kill the group there, and by the time you are done move back to where you started. Did this as a 39 hunter and it took FOREVER. the drop rate for snuff is terrible but they all drop cloth and some drop volatile rum which vendors for 4s or can be sold on the AH for a decent profit. happy hunting :)

fine quest, i recommend you to grind for this at the most southern point of stranglethorn, south of BB.

Just as a note, there seems to be a better drop rate amongst the swashbucklers then amongst the warlocks, despite the listed rates being almost equal. I got snuff off of maybe 2 or 3 warlocks I killed in the camps and got the rest of the snuff from the swashbucklers.

On a side note these are pretty lame pirates. Only one of them dropped any rum!

I've done all quests in the area and still only have 11 snuff. I hate these quests and tend to discard them right away.

It may be nice to combine the two quests, but this one definitively takes much longer, and I got tired by the time I had 7/15. I'll probably come back, but the drop rate is very very lame

It was really easy as a warlock. I used my mininon to kill their's. And using Shadow Ward made no damage on me. I almost never got damage.

You can do this quest along with Keep an Eye Out and The Bloodsail Buccaneers(Part 4). Saves you some time!

The drop rate was rubbish. I got about 15%. It took about 2 1/2 hours to complete as a lvl 38 warrior. Though the upside of this quest is getting 30,000+ xp. If you do this with Keep an Eye Out and The Bloodsail Buccaneers (Part 4) it is a little more worthwhile.

The above poster was killing in the wrong place. You should take a left once out of Booty Bay and along the shore are pirates. I killed them for around 20 minutes and got my snuff.

Wasn't really hard.

Turn right out of Booty Bay to the beach, it's called the Wild Shore. Follow the beach south and you will find Bloodsails. Very high drop rate of snuff, plus the quest The Bloodsail Buccaneers can be done in this area, the only downside is the pirates are levels 42-44. Go with a group and kill two quests at once.

To be clear:

While it it not true that you have to had *completed* Bloodsail Buccaneers in order to get Deeg to talk to you and offer this quest, it IS true that you must have completed the first 2 legs of Bloodsail Buccaneers - just the parts of locating the camp, finding the map on the barrel, and returning to that quest giver. THEN Deeg will talk to you.

If you finish the first 3 parts of bloodsail buccaneers then attempt up to snuff, the drop rate will increase ten fold. finished in 20 min solo. Will drop from all not just raiders

I'm doing this quest right now (in fact, I'm resting, waiting for my mana to regen, heh), and I find that snuff also drops off of the Bloodsail Swashbucklers, and pretty abundantly too.

I'm doing Up to Snuff together with part 3 or 4 of the Bloodsail Buccaneers (where you need to kill 10 Swashbucklers, etc.) and that's how I found out the snuff drops.

Thought that I might mention the fact that the guys at 23,55 are lvl 43.
I did this as a 39 druid along the beach (on your left as you exit from booty bay), where there were lvl 40/41.
Not difficult, but time consuming. Enjoy!

just take a right out of booty bay then go south. you can do The Bloodsail Buccaneers quest where you have to kill the swashbucklers and the notes are in a camp all the way south.

Just be careful, they are almost always in groups and they are not afraid to get wet so running away into the water wont work like it does sometimes.

The Questgiver is to your left as you enter Booty Bay. When you are going for the Snuff, I'd recommend going directly east of the Entrance to Booty Bay, and then heading to Wild Coast where there are several different Bloodsails.

I've found that off of Bloodsail Swashbucklers the drop rate is the best, and that's who I would try to kill.

Overall I don't think that it's worth it to do this quest, but you should keep it in your log, and as you complete other quests, you can tack up some Snuff, and gain an extra 1650 XP.

If you read the quest it says that Bloodsail Raiders took it. So you get it from them. Can find some just to the east of the entrance to Booty Bay (32,72).

All of these quests require killing bloodsails. The eye and snuff can drop off any of the bloodsail in STV so the best thing to do is pick up these 2 quests and then just do The Bloodsail Buccaneers quest chain until they drop. No need for special excursions to get snuff or some guy's eye.

I'm lvl 49 NE Hunter with pet. Took me about 20 minutes or so. Every three or so dropped one. Got a bit of xp. Scored (Twilight Orb of the Eagle) 6 Intellect. 6 stamina. I'll it on AH. I also scored 2 pages 21 and a pg 16 and 18 which I will also sell at AH.

I started from the road and worked me way all the way to the end. Came back to road and got them all by the time I hit the first camps for the second time. Not a bad quest. Got ganked by 59+ Orc Hunter and had a grey horde near me but obviously she wasn't a prob so I left her alone.

From what I remember, the Warlocks were the only one's that didn't drop them but I still killed them. XP.

Easy? no way! I had to go back and forth between the 2 camps in order to get any drops. Died lots of times because of multiple pulls. Some of the buccaneers were resistant to every spell I have. it was a long hard effort - I am a 39 mage

This quest is very easy to do....I turned right off the road while heading out of Booty Bay...down thru the meadow with a few enemies waiting. Then right along the beach.
The trick is not to pull more than one or two at a time. The warlocks are tough with their imps sending blasts at you. It helps to have a pet or someone else there.

Guess they re-nerfed it, cuz now it's like 20%.

The kills are easy, but it's just really tedious waiting for them to respawn everytime.

If you decided to kill the warlocks over on the other beach, I suggest all warlocks use banish, it makes things so much easier.

I found that it took forever to do bc it took them for ever to come back to like! But i also found mages carryedr them more than the other so kill the mages also one mage will drop a lvl 40 plate boots nothig great but could make some money off them =) good luck

Seems like the highest droprate of snuff is on the ships over at 30,90. I record drops from Bloodsail Elder Magus, Bloodsail Deckhand, Bloodsail Swabby, and Bloodsail Sea Dog surely the others there drop snuff as well.

aye, i got most of mine off of the ships while also doing another quest. also got dizzy's eye while i was at it but that dropped like8 kills into the beach. for all 3 quests got about 10 thousand XP :)

Like always, bad drop rate and u have to get alot, 15. So expect an hr or so of grinding. Blizz really needs to nerf this damn drop quests.

The areas that drop them are right next to BB. Just walk out of BB and to your left is one way to go, or go on a couple of feet until you see the Raiders and Mages just off the path.
It will drop from any Bloodsail Bucaneers in those areas. :)

I made the mistake of going after higher level swashbucklers for this quest, and suffered an ABYSMAL drop rate. Then I read this thread and the actual quest text a little more closely and realized that it was the lower level Raiders and Mages (40/41) that drop the snuff at the best rates. It took running back and forth between the coast and the Duncan area, and a little luck that nobody else was around to kill the respawns, but I wrapped it up rather quickly.

The only bummber was the 1650 XP at level 41. I needed 1900 to level to 42, so I had to go out and kill one more Raider to put the icing on the cake. :)

And I also found some crumpled note along the beach that I have no idea what it's for. Anyone know?

At first I was getting a snuff about 2 out of every 3 Bloodsail mobs killed, but once I got to 14 (only needed one more) it took eight kills to finally get that last one!

See DEEG for Quest Booty Bay, building has a ship's bow sticking out of front. there is also a Blue shark hanging out front. Coords 27,76. To find Bloodsail Raiders go out the shark tooth entrance to Booty Bay and hang a left, down the path you will run into the first one 28,78. They are scattered all the way down to shoreline, watch out for Pretty Boy, he's tough if your a solo, level 35 and below. Go across bridge and you will find 3 sailors out there ends at coords 25,65, then you will rin into Naga Exporer creatures. Drop rate is not really bad.

If you have the other quests for charts/orders, then doing up to snuff is fine, and if you come over to Pretty Boy Duncan's camp, the Raiders and the Mages drop the Snuff as well, so in all there are at least 2 quests you can double up on and 3 or more mobs that will drop the snuff item.

I recommend taking this quest despite the other posts. At 42 it was decent xp just for the killing. 1650xp @ 42.

This is by far the worst quest I've been on as far as effort vs. reward.
No item reward. No money reward. Just roughly 1400 xp at level 45.
All those kills for that.. crappy.

Suggestion for the quest: stick with killing the swashbucklers and raiders. The warlocks very rarely have snuff on them. I guess they get it mixed up with their magic dust.

Not only is it WISE to have started the Bloodsail Bucaneers quest tree when doing this and Keep an Eye out, but it is required. I was level 43 and could not get this until I had done the first quest or two of that tree.

Unless you are in a group or much higher than what the quest calls for (lvl 41) avoid the areas around 24,54 and 32,54. This is because you can't fight just one. You might be alright if you can draw one or two out at a time, but I couldn't. Almost always got the whole group and the mages hit hard. I got owned at lvl 44 over and over before I realized that I could go down to the beach area where they are alot more spread out.

I rated this as disappointing, and it was, but honestly, the failure was more on the part of WoW than the quest itself. I solo'd these guys for about 45 minutes to get the 15 snuff I needed for the quest, only to come back to town and find out I have 14 in my bag. But for some reason, my quest log says I have 15, and I'm assuming that since it THINKS I've completed the quest, it's prevented them from dropping any more of them, because I've spent another 30 minutes soloing them without getting a SINGLE DROP. I wasted all this time, and can't even complete the quest.

It's not a total failure, though, I got about 12,000exp out of it. I hope I'm the only one who's had this problem.

This quest was fairly poor, since it has no real reward but some xp and faction.

The wife and I each did this while we duoed the final 2 Bloodsail quests, and got all the snuff just as we finished. So, instead of viewing this on it's own, if you consider it just an add-on to doing the last few bloodsail quests, it really isn't so bad. I mean, you are killing those guys, anyways...

Just did this around the boats at 32, 87. My drops were as follows: Bloodsail Swabby- 50%(4/8). Bloodsail Deckhand-40%(4/10). Bloodsail Elder Magus-33%(3/9). Bloodsail Mage-25%(1/4). Bloodsail Sea Dog-100%(2/2). Ironpatch-50%(1/2). Garr Salthoof-100%(1/1). That somehow adds up to 16/36 which is 44%. I dont know how, but it sais ive colelcted 16 of them, but i only have 15... weird.

Fairly easy quest. It's a good one to pick up when you get to killing Pretty Boy Duncan and killing the Naga (Akiris by the bundle). You can bounce back and forth between Pretty Boy's camp and the Naga to keep you busy without running out of mobs.

When I get into port I like to find me a good bottle of grog and some high quality snuff. Nasty habits but what's a pirate without his vices, right?

So you can imagine how heartbroken I was to find out the herbalist here in town has gone and sold out of the stuff. Says his shipment got hijacked by those damned Bloodsail Raiders.

I bet a fearless <class> like you could convince 'em to share the goods, eh?
