The quest series actually gives a lot of XP and is a 13 part series not 3. Its amazing for XP but requires a lot of travelling around the worlds to complete and quite time consuming.

This whole series of quests was worth it. I started right after I hit 50, so I could use my new weapon. At the end, I was at 53% into my level! Lots of flying around, but no biggie. Fly, go afk, come back. All good! =) Also helps if you already have the FPs.

Be prepared for a lot of cross-country flying. I've flown across Kalimdor longways twice and I'm not even done The Videre Elixir yet.

I havnt started this quest yet and I wont for a couple more lvls, but I think any questline that give 56900 xp just for handins with no kills is a good quest line, as it happens the reward is a great trinket which can be used much like the rogue throwing knifes, this is excellent for bg's, if your going to quest, why not getimba xp and great rewards :)

Yes, there is a tremendous amount of traveling involved, but for an old Legend of Zelda fan like myself the quest series was a real delight. The rewards are fun and there is a huge amount of experience rewarded as well. It's well worth doing, in my opinion.

I'm not a Zelda vet so I don't know about the references to it, but I read it as a "Land of the Lost" reference. For those of you under the age of 35 who don't know what that is, it was a late-1970s Saturday morning live-action and stop-motion show in which some rafters get swept over a waterfall into a cave and wind up in a prehistoric land filled with dinosaurs and cave people. Maybe Zelda got its idea from this? :-)

As it is, this portion of the chain quest is easy xp, and since you'll be headed back to the refuge several times with other quests, anyway, then you may as well at least do this part even if you choose not to do the rest of it.

When I started this quest I was a level 46 Warlock, if you do this be prepared about 1/2 way into the quest to get some help from a level 53+ (or a 70) so when you start the part of the quest where you have to get the tree core from the treants in felwood you won't die everytime, the 70 will also come in handy at the end. And just some info here, even though i was 2 bars from level 47 i made it all the way from lvl 46 to 1/2 way through 48 by doing this quest

Linkin's boomerang is a great tool for a pali tank to use to pull. It can pull single targets whereas the avenging shield will hit 3 close together. If you choose to use your points elsewhere, this trinket will replace the avenging shield. I still use it at lvl 70

Sorry to the land of the lost guys but this is indeed a tribute to the Legend Of Zelda(or LoZ)
the main give away is the sword reward Linken's sword of mastery.

In all zelda game's exept for Loz 2 you get what is called the master sword mainly made famous by LoZ Ocainia of time. It is usally the 2nd strongest in the games and almost always used to kill the final boss usaly a large dragon/warthog mixed type of thing (admited the are a few ocassian's).

The second major refrence in the name of the last leg of the quest "It's dangerous to go alone" its what the witch type person says right at the beginning of the first LoZ when you are give your first sword.

there are a few othere already mentiond but these are the main to that give it away

as i have not yet done this quest im sure there are more thing i will pick up on so ill add to this at that time

heres a few more i found

-you need to use the silver totem to dispel bladerunners arura In "Loz a link to the past" you need to use the silver arrow to do the same thing
to gannon.

-the "golden flame is in the shape of a triangle. Funny shape for something made of fire you may ask? Its a refrence to a peice of the triforce which is a main part in almost every LoZ game which is always displade as a collection of three triangle each with a meaning gannon gets triforce of power, link get courage, zelda gets wisdom. Now in almost all of the games you have defeat gannon to take back the tirforce of power because when in the "wrong hands" its can twist to world into a land of great evil because its ment to reflect the hold heart good heart good land "pure evil heart" evil land gannon also sometimes called gannondwarf is "pure evil".

-there are 3 sword you need to forge each getting presuably better just as in the games

I could have sworn I posted this before but here's a list of all the referances i could find I love LoZ or legend of zelda so for blizzard to honour the best rpg like this is awsome.

1) we will start with the raft( In link's awakening our hero link in stranded on an island after his raft crashs with no memory of how he got there)
2) In each dungon you have to collect 3 items a map a compass and a key.
3) in every zelda game you can/have to lvl up you sword.
4) to do so in majoras mask you have to give your sword to a gentleman who uses the hotspring to lvl up your sword as well in "A Link to the past" you have to throw your sword boomarang and shield in to a hotspring.
5) in almost every zelda game you get a bomarang
6)in every game i can think of you can push the grave stones back to reveal secret's
7) the first quest title usally appeard when you found a secret room in which a man would give or take away money
8)the silver heart totem is a refrence to several games namely "A Link To the Past" in which you must use silver arrows to dispel the main boss"gannon" invisable arura
9) the second last comes from the title of the second game "Legend of Zelda: Links adventure
10) the title of the last quest come from the first game In where you get your first sword the guy that gives it to you say's "It's dangerous to go alone"

I noticed another legend of zelda piece. From legend of Zelda link to the past (I think thats the one) For nintendo. One of the people in it says "east most peninsula is the key", back then I didnt know what that meant. Lol

the old world flight points will annoy thie ^&*! out of you in this quest, as flying between un'goro, winterspring, tanaris, feralas, felwood is about 10 minutes each way

As anyone going for the "Loremaster of Kalimdor" achievement will know, it is very much worth it to make sure that you have done this quest chain... I had searched high and low through every zone in Kalimdor for those last 10 or so quests that I needed. I had thought I'd done it on my main, but in desperation trying to find those last few quests I needed, I made the trip to Un'Goro and discovered that I hadn't even started it. So I highly recommend double checking to make sure you've done this chain if you're going for that achievement! The travel time is worth it for that!

I'm surprised this has never been posted, or maybe i'm just crazy. I was looking around the map for the lake as i got into Un'goro on an alt. I noticed one lake looked vaguely like a rooster. LoZ is famous for the chickens/roosters you can find in-game, which, upon being attacked for long enough, will call a swarm of it's feathery comrades from off screen that will fly by you and damage you if you are hit. Sure enough, the rooster shaped lake is the one that contains the boat to start the questline.

Another purposeful reference or me just looking too deep into it. You decide.

When you start this Questline, do know that you will have to travel several times over azeroth, including that you at one point have to find a npc in winterspring, you might have to concider becoming allies with the timbermaw, or just become unfriendly, like you can use their tunnels. And you will face alot of tasks, walking back and there, and in addiction in the end have to fight an elite elemental

I'm fairly certain the Link(en) in this Chain is the Wind Waker one. Here's my reasoning:

Raft crashed (looks like a boat to me)
Noted in the first quest's description that the water level could have been much higher (Great Sea)
Linken is a Gnome, very short. (Much like like the Link in Wind Waker)

If you are trying to complete the Loremaster Achievement and you have found you diddnt do this you just hit the jackpot. Although this shows as only a chain of three quests, if you are patient when you hand in the third part and wait for Donova Snowdon in Winterspring after she wanders off, you will pick up another chain of ten quests but be patient a minute or so or you'll miss out.

First step in the quest gives you a small pack with a few trinkets in it. If ya look at the faded photo it has a picture of a pair of gnomes. And if ya read the paper it says to investigate Marshal's Refuge. 1+1=2. Gnome is in Marshal's Refuge, his name is Linken. Hope that helps =)

Yes, It is supposed to be link, and i'm sure that's Zelda in the Picture. you even get the sword after pushing a Gravestone. And the Gorilla's in the area also have a Chance to Drop Empty Barrels(Donkey Kong).There's also Larion And Muigin(Mario Bros.) But here's my question. Where's The Metroid Referrence Blizz? Cmoe on! I haven't seen Some Blonde Human in a Ginormous set of Powered armor yet !

this other set of references is before (most) of your times . . .

Back in the 1970's, there was a cheesy show on Saturday morning tv in the States called 'Land of the Lost.'

It ran for a few seasons, I guess - the main characters were Will, Holly, and Marshall. They were explorers who were on a rafting trip, got sucked into a whirpool/time vortex, and wound up in a prehistoric world.

A lot of the quests, names, items, etc. seem to be plays off of that, as well, in Un' Goro.

Just no Sleestak or friendly baby dinosaur yet! :)

The various references to Zelda and other games is fascinating. But the origin comes ultimately back to the N'gorogoro Crater in Tanzania. Its an ancient volcanic crater where numbers of African veldt animals wandered in and couldn't find their way out again, developing their own subspecies or special characteristics. A fabulous place for a visit.

Zelda was one of the first games ever to start massive-scale RPG's... It deserves to be honored by blizzard. By this time Link is an old man ^_^ I'd have to say that the original Final Fantasy, and the original Zelda (Both NES) had to have been the first Epic scale games ever made... I have to say, this is one of my favorite quest strings in the game. Well worth the effort, and the reward at the end is fun, if not overly useful. If you are a pally, the reward (Linken's Boomerang) is very good, because it is a ranged weapon that anyone can use, which as I understand it is something that is not available to most pallies. While it does not do a lot of damage, it can be used to do pulls. The typical Pally-pull is kinda dangerous in some situations!

The raft that starts this quest is the second southernmost pond (not one of the tiny ones. If you draw a line straight down from the ape cave on your world map it runs right through the middle of it.

When I first got to the correct coordinates (63, 68) the raft wasn't there and I figured the poster was wrong, especially since he said it was a crate and there was also no crate. I wandered around that area for a couple of minutes and then voila' the raft appeared (along with a couple of crates but it was the raft that I clicked on). No problems got the raft and immediately got the sack at the bottom of the water, which I had already spotted.

I was a level 47 Warrior when I did this quest, and I also got the 5100 XP. Which is a very nice reward for dodging Mucculent Slimes and dying only once when that 20-story-tall Devilsaur snuck up behind me. God only knows how a 20-story-tall prehistoric monster sneaks up on one, but there you go-- the FBI is helpless.

Now I have to get into Winterspring, and I suppose I have to do some research for that.

This quest starts at a wrecked raft in the Marshlands at 62,68 in the Un'Goro Crater. It is on the lake that is the furthest SW in the marshlands.

The end of this quest is in the water right next to the raft at a small pack at 63,69.

Quest bugged for me (no interaction with Linken) so I had to abandon it but I couldn't get it back at the raft

I went back to turn in some quests at Marshal's Refuge and Linken was there with the quest.

I took it back on step 3 (go to winterspring).

So if you're stuck on the quest at the beginning, abandon the quest and if you can't get it from the raft, just talk to Linken

This entire amazing questline is a homage to the Legend of Zelda franchise from Nintendo, and more specifically, a homage to the first game in the series "The Legend of Zelda" (LoZ), released for the original NES in 1986. The whole questline contains many references to names, items and locations found within Zelda games. It is very joyful to play through if you're a Zelda fan, and I always do the entire questline on any character I level. Here is my attempt at listing all the references. :)

It's a Secret to Everybody
The phrase "It's a secret to everybody" (written in-game as IT'S A SECRET TO EVERYBODY.) is uttered by a friendly moblin NPC found in many caves in LoZ as he presents you a one-time gift of "rupies" (also called rubies in the game manual, or rupees in later games).
A Wrecked Raft - In some games, such as Link's Awakening (Game Boy, 1993), the game's story begins with the hero washing up to shore in his wrecked boat.
A Small Pack - In Zelda games, the player has an inventory with items. In some Zelda games, you can find bags with goodies, although in the early games, you do not have a WoW-like inventory with bags and bag slots.

It's a Secret to Everybody
Linken - Linken refers to Link, the main hero of the Zelda games, and the character the player plays. Sometimes people confuse the main hero with Zelda - Zelda is the damsel in distress, the princess that Link often (but not in all games) must rescue.
Large Compass - In many dungeons in Zelda games, Link can find the compass, which shows him where the final boss is on the map, and sometimes where to find chests and keys.
Curled Map Parchment - Likewise, in dungeons Link can find the map, which shows a complete map of the dungeon with its rooms, rather than walking around blindfolded.
Lion-headed Key - Link can find keys in dungeons (or buy them) in order to open locked doors or locked objects.
Faded Photograph - Right-clicking this item shows a picture of a male and female gnome standing next to eachother in front of a castle. Strong reference to Link and Princess Zelda.

Linken's Training Sword - In all Zelda games, Link obtains a simple sword very early on, in order to fight enemies. This is the main way to combat enemies. The sword can typically be upgraded further into the game, by a mix of "questing" and talking to NPCs around the world. In the first LoZ game, Link gets the sword upgraded by talking to old men located in caves around the world.

The Videre Elixir
Elixirs (or potions) are a recurring theme in Zelda games. They can be health or mana potions, or they can have other curious effects.

The Videre Elixir and Bait
In LoZ, Link can buy a piece of meat ("food") and put it on the ground in order to distract enemies, allowing him to move past. It is also required to give to a certain mouse/gnoll-like NPC in a dungeon in order to be able to pass the door he guards.

Meet at the Grave
Graveyards feature in almost all Zelda games and often have ghost mobs and secrets. An NPC in LoZ directs you to the graveyard in the game world, instructing you to "Meet the old man at the grave.", where Link finds an old man who has an upgraded sword for him. In WoW, the player is sent to the graveyard outside of Gadgetzan in Tanaris, and after using the elixir, you can meet Gaeriyan while dead, and he looks like an old man indeed. The name Gaeriyan might be a reference to a mob type named Goriya from Zelda.

A Grave Situation

Aquementas
Aquamentas sounds similar to Aquamentus, the boss of the first dungeon in LoZ. He looks like a dragon spewing fire.

It's Dangerous to Go Alone
"It's dangerous to go alone! Take this." is spoken by an old man in the very first cave Link encounters in LoZ. He gives Link the first sword to help him on his way.
Fire Plume Ridge - The final boss of many Zelda games is often found atop a mountain; in LoZ it is found on "Death Mountain".

Blazerunner - Most likely a reference to Ganon, the prince of darkness, the main antagonist of Link in many Zelda games. He is typically the final boss of Zelda games, and must be defeated using special items, and using all the skills Link has learned along the way. Ganon often has a special invisibility or invulnerability aura which must be defeated or removed, in order to make him visible/vulnerable to attacks.
Silver Totem of Aquementas - In LoZ, Link must use Silver Arrows in order to defeat Ganon while he is vulnerable.
Golden Flame - This golden, triangular item is a reference to the "Triforce", a legendary set of golden triangles found in many Zelda games. Link must often obtain pieces of the Triforce (8 in LoZ), found deep in dungeons, in order to unlock the final dungeon of the game.
Linken's Sword of Mastery - The Master Sword is the final and most powerful sword Link can obtain in some Zelda games.
Linken's Boomerang - In many Zelda games, Link obtains the Boomerang early on, which can be used to stun or damage enemies, or pick up items from afar.

Descrizione

A destroyed raft rests along the shoreline. Considering this is only a small pond, it is not clear as to how it ended up here, although looking at the trees tells you that the water level may not be constant.

Perhaps a little exploration in the area might uncover more clues...
