Easy. Soloed this as a 53 BM hunter, and I'm sure I could've done it much lower. The mobs are an easy kill.

I got the item on the second kill. I don't know if I was just lucky, as the previous poster said it took him a while.

As for the mobs, they're right off to the west of Thorium Point, at around 24,36. Just follow the path west.

Did this quest as a 52 Fire Mage with ease. The only mob that gave me some problems were the Twilight Fire Guards because they would resist some of my attacks but got around that by just kiting them around.

Arrrgh... Tried this last night on my server...

1. 2 damn farmbots were all over.. lvl 60's, both Huntards..

2. I gained almost ½ a lvl there (rested xp 50-51) before I GAVE UP... Killed LOADS of them, but none would drop...*sigh*

3. The Invokers are very easy to solo as mage, with fireward... But that doesn't help, when it doesn't drop..

4. What are ppl and bots farming them for?? I only got Mageweave and a few silver there?!?

Just completed this quest as a 46 shadow priest. You can find the mobs if you continue on past the entrance to thorium point. The elites were not too tough in that they only had a bunch of hit points and not any abilities that stood out. Got the symbol of Ragnaros on my 7th or 8th kill. Overall, a very quick quest and good xp.

Level 56 Human Pally (hybrid) solo'd the first Elite Twilight Fire Guard, and immediately received the Symbol.

Soloed as 49lvl lock affliction.. Took to kill 14 Fire Guards and 13 Dark Shamans (well dark shamman dropped it).. Kinda unlucky ;)

Btw tactic fear + dots is very nice there.. but need to pull mobs into safe zone

The Idolators will not attack but they will still aggro you if you attack nearby mobs, so you won't be able to get out of combat until they are dead or you wipe aggro with a vanish or FD or something.

Its all in luck. I just killed 3 people and got it so just keep killing and you'll get it soon enough. Also go for the shamans they have the highest drop rate.

I used to hate this quest so much I almost didnt do it, but I read the comments here and decided to try it, and give up after 10 minutes.

It dropped on the third kill. The entire quest took 90 seconds counting travelling time.

I know people says its really easy, but its not!
The drop rate is VERY random, i had to kill 40-50 guys before it dropped... not gonna do this quest again in the future, thats for sure. Waste of time.

I had to kill like 60 to get this. Allthough, i think i am the luckiest person doing this quest. When the item dropped, i also got a nice tailoring recipe, and an epic twink rogue item for lvl 37. Gloves of Holy Might: 14 +Crit chance, 20 Ap and 30 AP when fighting Undead. Omg i was happy then xD. Anyways the quest is quite easy cause the mobs there are lvl 43-45 and the quest is for lvl 50 so you earn quite abit.

Figured someone would have mentioned it by now, but the general area of the Twilight Camp is next to a cave @ 23, 36.

As the quest drop rate has increased in the latest patches (3.1 and beyond), it should be easier to get the Symbol now.

Mobs are around levels 43 - 46.

6% for Twilight Dark Shaman
5% for Twilight Fire Guard
4% for Twilight Geomancer
3% for Twilight Idolater

Start at 21,36 on your map northwest cave called Fire watch Ridge, its a random drop and can be a pain in the butt. some people get it their first some their 100'th good luck. I got mine from a guard. about 30 mins in

They are up the hill to the right (north) of the cave entrance as you approach from Thorium Pt. After my L50 warrior barely killed a L47 shaman, I went up there and had a much easier time with a L49 geomancer. Got it on the first drop up there.

I'm a 53 Resto Shaman, and this quest really is a pain.. >_<

I've killed probably about 10 or so, and still no drop.. but at least I know that I can kill them, hehe.

These are lvl 47 - 49 Elites, so be careful when you come here.

1st. The post with "got it on first try" are just dumb. That's not remotely helpful to anyone else to have to wade thru all of these meaningless posts to get to helpful info.

2nd. Random drop so its a crap shoot on how long it can take.

3rd. There are from what I have found 3 quests total for this area so if u are doing all 3 at the same time it's not as bad.

At level 51 I couldn't solo the fire gaurds without bubbling (pally). So I stuck to the Shaman. After killing about 40-50 of them I found the Geomancers just a bit north. On my 8th Geomancer the idol dropped. I'd say stick to them. Could've been dumb luck, but alot of these posts say the same thing.

Unlike the ones bragging about how fast they got it and the people saying they finally gave up I'm probabily one of the few in between, I spent half an hour killing geomancers flameguards and whatever else i could as a level 52 rogue and before anyone talks about bragging yes I did die once during this quest, after about 20 to 30 kills I finally got one off a geomancer. Bad drop rate but possible and if you dont get it in the first 5 tries it doesnt always mean you'll be one of the ones that had to kill over 50. I simply hope this post will give a small ray of hope to those still questing even though their first few kills bore no fruits. Good luck to everyone KEEP AT IT!

Well, the mobs aren't elite anymore. Got mine from 7th shaman i killed. Shaman's are 43-46 lvls and weak. They sometimes shrink you ( -13 stam, -13 strenght ) and use Healing Wave when they have less than 20% hp. Hope this helps .)

Quest is easy, shouldn't be level 50, more like level 46-48. The coords are 23,36, just kill the stuff there and in the cave til it drops. Took a little while, but got XP so it's ok.

There's a cave at Firewatch Ridge, at around 23, 40 (ish)

Your best bet is probably to go for the shamans outside the cave, they're generally lower level (around 43-45) hehe. If you're a fire mage watch out for the fire guards because they take less damage from fire spells

Oh, and they're not elite anymore >_<

got on 22nd kill, they're AOE grindable by almost all classes, as they have half the hp of a normal mob of their level! :D

Get Quest off guy near lift on top lvl. Go to the place where he says there are lvl 45 - 48. Kill Fire warriors or shamans.
When you have got the talisman go back to the guy and he will make the staff thing then get the staff and he tells you to go and set light to the towers. This is quite hard but I did it on my lvl 49 resto druid.

Very tough to do solo at 48-50 as a shadow priest. Died a few times and many close calls. took 20+ kills.

Heh, first day i killed around 20 Shaman, and Guardsman. Second a about 6. Then on the third try killed 5. A guard ( melee ) dropped it for me. He was just outside the front of the cave. Had previously killed inside and outside of the cave.

The coin is good, but the drops are not.

Level 47 Shadow Priest here. Got lucky and got the drop from the 2nd shaman I killed outside the cave. It's a tough fight for me solo, have to silence and fear just right. Glad I didn't have to go inside there! ;)

I got it on my 12th dark shaman kill outside of the cave, there's no need to go inside, and while it doesn't drop from the fire guards you might as well kill them too. Good exp for the kills, fantastic quest exp, so it's well worth the effort.

For this quest you wait after turning in the previous quest and he will create a torch for you to hold in your weapon spot to set towers on fire. This quest can become buged very easy if more then one person is turning it in at a time so just take turns. After he gets done creating the torch complete quest and there will be a staff like object in mid air in front of him you can click it for completing quest. If at some point quest is buged just abandon that step and continue again.

OK, tried this at 48 solo - I could kill them one at a time but I'd need to use a pot every time. Came back at 50 & solo'd it fine. Although I was playing a hunter, so the twits out there can argue if we ever really 'solo'.

This really isn't a lvl 50 Group quest - infact it's a good argument against Blizzard's renaming of 'Elite' quests. You'd need a group if you were low lvl enough that you can't take out moderately strong 47-49 elites solo, but all classes should be able to do that by level 50. The quest item *does* drop outside the cave - I wiped out everyone outside prior to any regens & got it off the last mob - and they're easy pulls outside the cave, so you should be fighting them one at a time unless you stuff up severely.

And while it can be irritating, the xp's good. Elite mob xp (go in rested), followed by 4700 for handing in this quest, 470 for waiting 5 seconds & talking to the quest giver again, 4700 for picking up the finished torch and 470xp for talking to the squire.

Who can argue with 10,340 xp plus elite mob experience?

Plus, if you can do this quest, the further follow ups are a cakewalk (fixed locations, only one 48 elite & some plebs to kill in each).

Seriously, go kill the Geomancers for this at 22,24ish. I spent nearly thirty minutes killing Dark Shaman, Fire Guards, etc. The first Geomancer I killed dropped the symbol. I doubt you'll get it on your first kill like I did, but I'm throwing my hat in the ring with all the other commenters; the Geomancers must have a higher droprate. It makes sense, too, as they cast only fire spells.

Soloed as a 47 drain-tank (succubus) lock -- this quest will either be a nightmare for you or a piece of cake. On my first toon I got it within 3 kills. My warlock took me roughly 40.

I'd suggest going up the hill at 25, 33 just northeast of the cave entrance. The Geomancers up there don't hit hard at all, and if you are a caster it is great because they will cast rain of fire and you just step out of it and they do the entire channel. I killed level 50 geomancers faster than I was killing 47 shamans / fire guards. Shaman's and Fire Guards have a little more burst potential that is obnoxious to deal with.

FYI at the top of the hill on your right is a big hill, be advised that does NOT line of sight the casters and they will run up to the top of it or wall walk the middle of it and cast on you so you can't loot them

PS: "I killed 50 fire guards and then got it off first geomancer" is not a reflection of drop rate, that's a pointless comment -- It just drops or it doesn't off any of the elites. I've done this quest enough times and have killed enough of each type of elite to know.

This could be the toughest 4700 XP you'll spend time trying to earn if you're not a self-healing class. A Shaman at the bottom of the hill killed my 51 cat in about four shots while I was simultaneously healing him and throwing everything I had at the Shaman. Four shots at level 51? This isn't a Siamese that sits around near the fireplace but a team player with Rank 7 of Great Stamina that can handle two Slavers and a stone thingy simultaneously. Maybe I read it dyslexively and it was an 84 Shaman instead of a 48?

These mobs were demoted to normal mobs in TBC. Easy enough time for anyone leveling in the zone, way easier than the OG elites.

In the mountains to the northwest you will find a large encampment of Twilight's Hammer. It is rumored that they carry symbols and idols that pay homage to their god. These symbols and idols could carry sufficient enchantment to form a magical casing. Bring me a single symbol of Ragnaros and I will try to extract the magic from the item to create the casing.
