Wondering if this quest is bugged. Each of the 3 times I tried I sprinkled the powder on the brazier and killed Ekkorash--only to find no loot on her. I tried re-logging but this didn't fix the issue.

I tried this quest this morning. I summoned and killed this devil chick 12 times and she did not drop the staff. In fact she did not drop anything at all.

Both this quest and the Consortium Crystal Collection quests are bugged.

I had no problems getting the item but she also drops Arklon Crystal Artifact for another quest, even though it tells you to kill someone else.

Do you ever lose the staff, or can you keep it indefinitely?

I have completed the "Malevolent Remnants" quest chain and the staff is still in my inventory; I'm not sure if I need it for anything anymore, or if I can safely destroy it. Is it worth holding onto other than to spawn the image of the Archmage for silly things like screen shots?

If you have a flying mount just drop down near it once its clear, use the powder, she appears, kill her, mount and fly....real easy didn't have to kill anything but her and she was an easy kill.

Quest chain DOES have rewards. In fact, some very nice ones, including a very good cloak (for a tanking druid), a wand, a neckpiece, and a melee dps trinket:

Stood right on the glowing brazier and killed her without killing any mobs. Im a rogue so i just stealthed right in and out so easy cords 40,72

(40 72) loc spot on! Brazier is at these coords. Use powder from QG in ur bag. Just be sure to clear the few mobs nearby. Easy kill, easier than mobs that are around.

some people thought this chain was a huge waste of time since it never offered any good items in the end. this is the end quest.

Actually the people that saying this quest offers gamers very little in terms of rewards are oh so wrong.

This item although green can be considered as one of the best items available to rogues pre kara drops. Note i did not say it was "the best" just that its considered one of the top 10 pre kara trinkets for rogues and also very cheap and easy to obtain.
alongside this is the also considerably easy to obtain Bladefist’s Breadth

these two items can be very good for rogues who have only just hit 70
Note - there are other items that do and will out perform these, these item considered should be obtain early and only used as a filler for better gear but overall they are very good for rogues.

Before starting this chain, be aware that it's 12 steps long and nothing but XP and gold as a reward. Nothing else. No green, no blue, no armor, no weapon, no trinket, nothing.

Some may feel it's worth it, but I don't. After being swamped with mobs and dying at least half a dozen times (possibly over a dozen), the gold barely paid for the repairs. If you're interested only in money, your time is better spent on your gathering profession. If you can't make 100G in 6 hrs of gathering, you really DO need to up your gathering skill anyway. :)

One good aspect of the chain is that it does lead you into areas that have other quests that can be done at the same time. These other quests do not have prerequisites, so this chain isn't necessary to accept them.

Edit: Upon further investigation (I quit this 3/4 the way thru), there are rewards about a step or two away from the final quest. However, examine them and you'll probably find you already have better. Ar'kelos the Guardian

The Archmage's Staff

Retrieve Archmage Vargoth's Staff from Ekkorash the Inquisitor and bring it to Ravandwyr in Area 52. To bring Ekkorash out of hiding, sprinkle the Conjuring Powder on the brazier in the center of the ruins.

I am Ravandwyr, apprentice to the Archmage Vargoth.

My master is... indisposed, shall we say. I am here on a matter of great importance.

The Arklon Ruins southeast of the city are a hotbed of Burning Legion activity. Their purpose in the ruins concerns neither me nor my master, but their leader, Ekkorash, possesses the archmage's staff.

This conjuring powder will allow you to draw the demon out of hiding. Sprinkle it on the brazier at the center of the ruins.
