To emphasize, you just need to accept the quest, and you'll get the key and credit for the achievement. You don't need to even enter the instance, let alone complete it.

I completed the quests including Containment and don't have the key. This happened to anyone else?

A bit funny that for the Containment quest you are given the key to the Violet Hold, but once inside when you start the fight-sequence, the mage lady tells you she is going to lock you in (and indeed she does). So apparently the Violet Key is a magic key that only works from the outside!

If you accidentally lose this key as far as I was able to learn you will have to petition a Gm to get it replaced. The locksmith currently won't replace it. I was unable to find anyone who would issue another.

I have the key, but do not have credit for it in The Keymaster achievement. :(

The quest to get the key starts in Dalaran, inside The Violet Citadel from the NPC called Rhonin.

Ride across town to the Violet Citadel (big spire with big steps).

Main room bunch of NPCs standing around. One big one is named Rhonin.

He gives you a quest called Discretion Is Key.

If you do not find a quest from Rhonin then continue to this next step as you most likely completed it already.

Now make the oh so terrifying and perilous trek across Dalaran back to Violet Hold. There is an NPC there called Warden Alturas. Turn in the quest.

Now pick up the follow-up quest Containment.

Upon accepting quest you will be given The Violet Hold Key. You DO NOT need to accept or even keep the quest to get the key! It takes a whole minute to complete the quest (of course longer if you experience serious lag issues in Dalaran).

If you don't have it. Go get it! Stop asking people to open the door for you. Its THAT easy.
