To get the Flawed Power Stone, head to 62x,20y. Its a clickable item on the table next to Ak'Zeloth at the Far Watch Post in The Barrens.

Once you have your stone, (remember the stone will destroy itself in 30 minutes so be quick) Head to Dreadmist Peak which is roughly at 49x,15y. Climb the side of the mountain to the top. The sky will change to a fiery orange and you need to look for a cave guarded by a bunch of mobs. They can all be single pulled if you are careful. The entrance to the cave is exactly at 47x,19y. Once inside place the Stone on the Altar of Fire and whammo~ the quest is done!

Quest: "The Demon Seed"

This is considered a Durotar quest but the entire quest takes place in The Barrens. (All coordinates are given on The Barrens map).

- 62:20 - Ak'Zeloth (starts the quest)

- 62:20 - Flawed Power Stones (examine it) and click "Complete Quest" although you're not really completing anything.
(Note: You have 30 minutes to find the altar once you pick up the stone).

- Do as the quest log says and head towards Deadmist Peak.

- Get up the mountain however you want, I'm not going to debate the "best" way to get up it.

- 47:19 - This is the cave entrance, you will need to clear 5-10 mobs level 11-12.

- 47:19 - The Altar of Fire (examine it)

- 62:20 - Ak'Zeloth (turn in the quest)

I've climbed Dreadmist Peak multiple times for the Druid quest at the top and the Southeast route really is the better way. It avoids additional mobs that would be encountered on the North route. Climbing the southeast route will put you very close to the cave entrance as well.

Just reminding, as of Patch 2.3, Rathorian (the Felguard next to the Altar of Fire) is no longer an elite. He is a level 15 silver loot monster, and is relatively easy to beat. Oh, and his attacks are shadow damage.

the sky gets so f***ed up u can barely see anything. its a good idea to enter the cave without the stone, time urself from the place where the stones are and enter the cave and kill all the mobs then u can get a feel for the time u need then u can go back and pick up the stones.

this quest is an easy one with a lvl 12 hunter... and i didnt have my pet out iether, the only prob i had was trying to find the cave and that wasn't realy that hard

Most of the horde warlocks are corrupted to the core, althought they state the oposite.
Im sure most of us know that Neeru Fireblade is the founder and prime leader of the Searing blade cultists stated in the Ragefire Chasm beneath Orggrimar.
Well I have noticed that Ak'zeloth, his assistant as stated says in the quests that the safe path to the peak is on the northern side, well the northern side is guarded by a horde of Cultists from the lower part to the peak.
And you can get up from allmost all sides without entering a fight, so that leads to the conclusion, these guys are thrying to get you killed more than trying to help you.

Pretty useless and annoying quest in the category "run around a lot while pressed for time and get a mediocre item as reward." If you're going there anyway and don't mind some running, I guess it's ok. The fact that the stone expired made me abandon this stage of the quest.

Rathorian is not elite, he is a named mob however and drops a nice cloak.

IGNORE ALL USELESS POSTS ABOVE, and follow this!

I don't know why the instructions say to go to the north of the mountain. I went to 47,24, and went up from there. There is a very small centaur camp at that spot, but easy to walk around.

Once you get up there, keep to the west side. The cave is not quite at the highest peak.

The place to use the stone is just a few feet inside the cave. It will be obvious, because there is a big glowing crystal in the air there. Roth is guarding it, so it will be obvious for that reason too.

P.S. the power stone is on the table beside the quest giver.

The actual entrance to the cave is at 47,19 in the Barrens. Make sure you pick up the power stone from the desk of the guy in Durotar first though!

47,19 is correct, i seen no silver mob. everything around their is lvl 10-12, a lvl 10-12 can do it easily if they watch adds, good luck.

The way up starts at 47,24 right beside the centaur camp, once you get to the peak, the cave entrance should show up on your minimap. lvl 12-14 mobs, and a lvl 15 named mob, rath, that drops a nice cloak.

Right guys, does rathorian have a wing on the silver dragon...since thats all your interested in....if he does....he's a rare elite...if not....he's just a normal mob thats respawn rate is a loooooooooooooong time....i hope i settled this arguement....so can we start talking about quest details not some bogus info about a rare that might be elite!take that elsewhere like the character sheet for rathorian and not the quest sheet for a quest near rathorian!

Rathorian is rare level 15 elite (silver crown).
Today a friend was doing the quest "The Demon Seed" and asked for my help. At first I was being sort of rude. How hard can level 10 mobs be? When I arrived at the cave I found Rathorian standing inside. Needless to say I wasted no time in killing him. I did take a screen shot with my friend's troll next to him, but only after he died.

Warlocks - even if the elite is there, no problem. Simply send in Voidwalker to grab aggro from Rathorian then immediately send the Void to attack the guy in the back of the room. He will keep them busy while you kneel down and destroy the stone...run out.

Fairly simple, follow the quest directions up the path and hang a right, heading North. The very first mountain you see to your right is what you want. Go to the North side of the mountain and then up the ridge. You'll see lots of Burning Blade cronies there that range from level 10-11 in two camps up top. The uppermost camp is where the level 25 undead guy is at. You want the camp below him on the northern face. There's a cave inside that you fight your way to and then spring it open if you brought the Flawed Power Stone with you. I soloed this as a level 14 mage. So, it's a breeze.

It is not necessary to go around to the north side of the hill. When the road Ts, continue due west - there are two ridges in front of you which meet halway up the mountain. the right-hand one is climbable, and will bring you out next to the cave. Much quicker walk.

Did this last night, the Flawed power Stone will decay after 30 minutes. If you know where the cave is on Dreadmist Peak, its easily doable in less than 10 minutes.

That mage is part of an alliance quest starting in Ashenvale (involving water elementals, of course). He was neutral to me as a troll priest, but I wasn't about to see if I could aggro him, being more than 2x my level.

Took me 30min to find it, lol.
When I finally reached the altar I had 48 seconds left, and I didn`t make it Because there was 3 guards on me.

I just did the quest, pretty easy. Level 13 Warrior, able to pull the Acolytes and Bruisers without worry. I had Shield Bash at the time, so I could stop them from casting any bad spells on me.

Don't worry too much about the time limit, just get to the camp and take down the guards one by one so you can get to the Demon Seed.

Did this yesterday and was particularly looking forward to the cloak. Just a bunch of grunts, pretty easy. Hung around before I completed just to make sure someone else hadn't killed elite just before me and still no specials. Oh Well.

I see so many locations on all these posts, so let me clarify which is the CORRECT WAY TO DO THIS QUEST.

I picked up the stone from the table near the quest guy, i then followed his directions and i CLIMBED the mountain at 51, 21, once there DONT head to the HIGHEST peak as there is no alter here, head to 47, 19 which is close to the highest peak, there you will find a cave, inside the cave is 2 level 11-12 burning blades, and a level 15 fighter with an axe, i managed to lure these out one at a time, inside this cave is the alter.

I did this quest solo as a level 12 orc fighter.

Edit: There was no Elite mobs that i saw

there is a level 15 silver-elite guarding the altar named rathorian who dropped a cloak called Rathorian's Cloak (14ac +2 sta) which has what i call the "full cloak" look which is very rare at the lvl for which it can be obtained

confirming other players coordinates, since the Additional Notes section currently incorrectly lists the Altar at 69.54. It really is at 48.0, 19.1. Its a small cave, just below the very peak. Several guards mostly levels 10-12.

Dreadmist Peak is NW of the crossroads. You can also check the map under the Burning Legion mobs for The Barren zone. Just be careful on the mountain on the top is their leader a lvl 25 undead mage that has like 10 water elementals assisting him. Don't take him out until you get to the mid-twenties. :)

1. dont fet get to get the stone by the guy who gives u the quest in the outpost on the border (62,20).
2. know you you only have 30 min to complete quest, if you fail to complete in that time you gotta go get another stone, no other penalty
3. cave entrance 48,19ish. on the to get access you must climb mountin from the northern side. look for the torches lighting the path.
4. you really gotta get to the very tope of the peak. note that you gotta pass the first one or 2 burning blade camps. u should find one up the mountain where the air gets red and hazy. that is not it. if u look around there carefully u will see sentries above the red hazy camp. this proves that the slopes are not too steep to climb, you must keep climbing up. the cave entrance has a bunch of sharp outcropping of rocks, its the only sharp pointy looking section of the peak, creep around the camp and enter cave. alter is just inside cave, the big flamming thing. u cant miss it.

and if u dont have cordinates follow the road west from the outpost until you get to a T intersection. north- north west of u is a mountain, thats the mountain u need to get to.

For those without coordinates: if you run straight west from teh quest giver, past Grom'dol Farm, you would bump into Dreadmist Mountain.
When you reach Gold Road, turn north, past a tree with a very wide trunk, then veer west again hugging the base of the mountain.
Since you are on a timer, you don't want to waste time fighting, so avoid the group of lions over that first ridge, and the Burning Blade post over the second ridge.
The path up the mountain is right after that post.
As you go up, it is easy to avoid the Burning Blade mobs.There is a cave near a tent, not obvious at first: this is where you use the stone. No mobs popped when I did it, but apparently it could.

Descriptions and coordinates depending on your questing style:

Pickup a flawed power stone from the table by Ak'Zeloth (62,20)

Proceed to the mountain to the northeast of the Forgotten Pools (47,17)

The most direct ridge that will put you right by the cave entrance starts directly north of the tip of the Forgotten Pool right by a small camp of Kolkar Stormer (45,19)
There is also a trail there that you can follow up the mountain. The ridge is a very direct route, but the trail is a nice adventure.

Once at the top there is a red mist that makes things hard to see and a bonfire, carefully work your way through the camp to the cave (47.5,19). From the ridge it will be behind the camp, from the trail it will be to the left.

Inside the cave there may be Rathorian, unless someone has defeated him recently you will need to bring him down. I was able to take him as a priest but it was close, grab a friend to make it easier.

Once the cave is clear select the glowing crystal (48,19) to put out the fire and clear the quest objective.

Return to Ak'Zeloth (62,20) to notify him of your completion of the quest.

Did this solo as a lvl 12 Warlock on TBC - Classic.

Just go to 51:22, which is one of the "roots" of the mountain. It's right behind one of the horde towers by the road with a pool near by.

Take this "root" or side of the mountain, all the way up until it levels out. This is the part where it gets foggy. Do not make your way to the pinnacle of the mountain, where the green slime pool is. You've gone to far up. Make your way around the left and you'll see some tents of the Burning Blade.

This has brought you to the back of their camp and left of the cave. Strategically take out the mob (lvl 11 or 10) one by one. DO NOT IMMEDIATELY RUN INTO THE CAVE. There's a lvl 15 Rathorian dude in there waiting for you, along with a few mob guys of a lower level. Take out one by one before Rathorian. There's another enemy behind him, but he's lvl 11 or so. You're through most of the hard fighting.

After all the enemy is cleared out, enter the cave and examine the alter. You're done.

Mission complete.

All these posts about the "correct way" up the mountain are hilarious. There are legitimately several ways up the mountain. Today, I actually ran into a path with a torch and everything. Location of the path up is 45.19, 19.14.

The Demon Seed

Grab a Flawed Power Stone. Bring it to the Altar of Fire before the stone expires, then return to Ak'Zeloth.

Description

The Demon Seed is a powerful tool for the Burning Legion. It rests in a cave on Dreadmist Peak, above a demonic altar of fire.

I have prepared power stones that when placed near the Seed will disrupt its connection to the Legion.

Take a stone from the table and bring it to the altar of fire atop Dreadmist Peak. Travel west, then north when the road forks. The Peak will be to your left. The safest climb to the top is on its northern face.

And hurry--the stone's power will consume itself in time.
