Ana'thek is in a cave in the Ruins of Zul'Mamwe (lower level) with 2 adds. The Hunters are all around this level as well. On the upper level, by Mogh the Undying, you'll find the Berserkers and Headhunters, but only about 4 or 5 of each, so you'll need to wait for respawns.

The cave that houses Ana'thek the Cruel is at 44,44. Skirt the ruins along the right wall for easiest access to the cave. Hunters are found all over the ruins and there is a good concentration of Headhunters and Berserkers at 48,43.

Ana'thek occasionally wonders outside the cave with his entourage along the road. It's pretty easy to take him out and run from the adds while he's outside.

I've soloed this as a 42 warlock. When Ana'thek is out of the cave, I got in and waited. Casted Howl of Terror to break the group apart and took him down easily. If you are an affliction warlock, they probably won't resist DoTs even with the level difference..

Soloed as a 44 Rogue. They tend to run away and aggro others...can be a pain, but totally possible.

Ana'thek is very easy, esp for Rogues. You can sap him and his guards will walk away.

Well, this one was a trial on my 42 ENH Shammy, since shammies have pretty much ziltch in the way of CC. I really had to fight the urge to take him first and then run from the entourage...but seeing as I didn't have an ahnk up or any more health pots and the bugger still had his armor, it was pretty obvious that wasn't working for me.

I did manage to pull it off with the help of Really Sticky Glue. Waited until they were coming back to the cave, hit Ana'thek with the glue, ran past him and took out the caster in the group asap. Then I dropped my stoneclaw totem to give me a few seconds to heal up and work Ana'thek alone. Didn't have a health potion or an ahnk up, so it was by no means a beautiful thing to watch, but the job got done.

Soloed on my 41 hunter. Sent the pet in, aggroed everything, hit intimidation and rapid fire, killed him, looted, and died. :P

On my 44 warrior, this area is complete suck. everything runs, patrols all over, casters that don't pull easy, and respawn rates that'll make you /wrists. I've died so many times, I might as well be naked.

Ana'thek was actually not that hard, just kill his healer if there is one first, and then run. Come back at full heath and take him out. He goes on little strolls around the area, but because of all the trash and pats, it's better to take him on in the cave.

VERY annoying quest to solo,especially as a Rogue.I was level 44 doing this quest and I died shortly after each kill.It is hugely irritating because:

1.The mobs are very close together

2.They run on low health and aggro the entire camp onto you

3.WHEN you die,which you will do a lot,the graveyard is AAAAAAAAAL the way to the north.

Solo'd as a 41 hunter. Its not that hard, just make sure that you have the area cleared, wait until he comes all the way out of the cave, right before he turns around. send your pet in and right when it engages, put mend pet on. pop rapid fire and you're off to the races.
it may be easier to have one of his two sidekicks attack you while the other stays on your pet, keeps your pet alive longer.

Be warned, the Skullsplitter Spirit chaser that may be with Ana'thek does a very ugly mana burn. There's no doubt that they should be killed first.

Soloed Ana'Thek and his adds as a 43 druid, used one healing potion but probably could have done it without it.

1. Start in cat form prowled and pounce Ana'thek. Burst him down as quick as possible and watch the mystic, if he starts to heal pop in bear form and feral charge.

2. Once you get him down pop out to caster form, War Stomp, Regrowth, (use potion if you have one), and pop into bear form.

3. Start hitting the mystic and use Frenzied Regeneration.

4. Just maul both of them down.

As a level 44 rogue this was incredibly easy. For Ana'Thek, I sapped the caster and cheap shotted Ana'Thek, then straight away popped Blade Flurry. By the time Ana'thek was dead so was the melee bodyguard and then I just waited until my energy was back and killed the Caster.

For the rest of the mobs I found its easier to pull them with a bow and then get behind a wall out of their LoS so that you can fight them one at a time, or in the case of a hunter, I liked to cheap shot the Hunter and blind his panther. Otherwise, its just as easy to sap the hunter and kill his panther first, but occasionally the hunter will resummon his pet half way through.

Don't bother with this quest unless you have the rest of the skullsplitter quests on you. The ratios for the mobs you need to kill for this specific quest are retarded. For every mob you need to kill for this quest there has to be 50+ garbage mobs that you don't need.

This quest was fair easy for me as a 41 rogue. When Ana'Thek went on patrol i sapped him and his entourage kept on patrol so i downed him using evasion and didnt pop a potion.

i was doing this mission as 43 hunter.
I had no problems with taking bereksers and headhunters, and on that piece of armor, i found accidentaly.
Bbut i have huge problems with taknig downs these hunters. cant find them...

Heres how i see it, go to 47,40 and the road shouold split into 2, one of the roads should be leading up into a fortress. Going into the fortress you will find Beserkers and Headhunters, going the other way will find you many many hunters and Ana'Thek

Berserker - Level 43 -44 (46,42)
headhunter - Level 43-44 (46,42)
Hunters - Level 41-42 (46, 41) Occupied by a pet
Ana'Thek - Level 45, occupied by a level 44 & 43 mob & patrols around lower area.

I did this quest at level 42, pretty easy really. Its a level 46 quest but the mobs aren't too high, the only thing that makes it a 46 quest is Ana'thek, hes a level 45 mobs guarded by 2 mobs and he walks around the camp, you can go to the cave at about 44,44 and you should find him if you wait, there are also many hunters around there.

What i did as a hunter is i just poped all my cooldowns, Bestial Wrath, Blood Fury & Rapid Fire. I put Mend pet before the battle. I ran him quickly took the boss guy down looted him and died, quest complete :P

I seriously hate this quest! The quantity of the mobs is ridiculously low, the respawns take a relatively long time and when you finally spot one, most of the time they are surrounded by 3 or 4 other mobs, mostly casters!
Around 49,39, south-east of the ruin where the lvl 44 elite troll is located, there is a place where a headhunter and a berserker spawn, without any other mob surrounding them, thus making them easy kills. Keep an eye on that spot.

EDIT: Ok, so it's not always a Headhunter or Berserker, but still, they're aesy to kill :P

This was pretty easy as a 45 feral druid. Hop into dire bear form, enrage and then charge the healer/caster when you get enough rage built up. Swipe to oblivion, occassionally maul and always keep up demoralizing roar against the other two melee beating on you. If the healer/caster casts a spell, stun them. When the healer/caster is dead, regrowth and healing touch and then go back into dire bear form, and rinse and repeat with swipe and demoralizing roar.

Worked like a charm :D

Just done it with my priest so thought it would be nice to share some useful info regarding the trash kills.
The boss has already been explained in detail here so i won't go into that part. As for the hunters, berserkers and headhunters, here's the deal:

they share the common cooldown - in English it means there are no fixed kill places (unlike the boss) - there are, however fixed spawn areas (see below)
that means you will have to keep killing mobs in 2 relevant spawn areas until enough of the needed mobs actually respawn for you to kill
hunters and their pet adds spawn at 46,43 - they can either remain there or exit the ruins and roam about - however their spawning is contingent on the said area being available for spawn. They share the common respawn timer with scouts and witch doctors in that area - in other words if the area is filled with the latter, the hunters WILL NOT spawn.
similar goes for berserkers and headhunters. They can be found at 48,43 and bit further, however they share the common respawn timer with each other plus the spiritchasers (mana burners). Hence you should keep killing all of them until the needed mobs respawn.

As has already been mentioned all of these mobs run when low on health, including the berserkers. You may want to save a heavy spell/strike or similar for those moments. The key to the quest, as always, is "Patience, discipline...".

solo'd as a 42 demo lock
when he was in the cave i simply sent in vw and feared the spiritchaser, then DoTd up anathak and hit him with shadow bolt. when he was down i took out the berserker the same way and just before vw died i sacrificed for sheild and finished up spiritchaser easy as that

Solo'd as a level 40 rogue.

Clear the path that Ana'thek takes when he comes out of the cave. When they pass by, get behind and sap Ana'thek, then wait for his guards to walk away. Once the guards are a safe distance away, kill him. At level 40, you WILL need evasion, health pots and bandages. Good luck =)

I'm pleased and impressed to say that i just solo'd this quest as a lvl 41 holy preist. I stack spell power, and with over 200 spell power the lightwell renew heals me for over 350 every 2 seconds, making me effectively invincible, regardless of mana. the quest was red to me, but Ana'thek the Cruel was only orange. I killed the spiritchaser first as i knew he could heal and manaburn (he burned me once). Then the berserker next because he was lower lvl and could be taken out faster then Ana'thek, thus lowering the dmg i would be taking. Once those two were dead I was pretty much already celebrating and kissing my lightwell lol. Killed ana'thek, then went afk on top of the cave and wrote this. Have fun!

This quest is not worth doing. Ana'thek is an easy kill, no real problem, just wait until he comes out of the cave and kill him on the road. But there are NO Headhunters anywhere. I killed probably 75-80 mobs all around the place and none of them were headhunters and none of the respawns were headhunters either. Finally found 1 headhunter at the top of a hill surrounded by 1 berserker, 2 spiritchasers, some human that can heal and a level 45 elite. There is no way to pull only one, anything you try will most likely result in all of them coming at you. I tried pulling the berserker because he was closest to me and all 5 mobs came at me at once. Needless to say I died in 5 seconds. After almost 2 hours of killing mobs in this place and finding only 1 headhunter completely protected by several other mobs, a 2 gold repair bill and pretty much no quest reward other than some Reputation .. this quest IMO is not worth the trouble. If you still want to do it, get a group together, raid the place and after you clear it the first time "maybe" you'll have 2 of the 6 Headhunters that you need.

Soloed as a lvl 38 subtlety rogue!

Now, it took me 3 hours just to kill Anathek, the lvl 45 boss, as i did wipe alot because im lvl 38 :) only reason why i spent so much time was to get a real challenge to my leveling and practice my skills as a rogue. (i do have 5 characters that are lvl 70 or above)

TACTIC: Wait outside the cave for Anathek and his 2 guards to start patroling to the outside of the cave. Once u can get behind them, distract them and use sprint and sap Anathek but be careful not to go too close to while sapping him specially if u are trying this at lvl 38 because he will detect you if you go too near, after all at lvl 38 he is a red mob. Wait until his guards are far away and then start on Anathek. Start with a garrote and immediatly use evasion, followed by a ghostly strike/hemorhage as subtlety and sinister strike with other specs until u got 5 combos then use rupture (on my kill he parried,dodged this first rupture attack million times before i got it in) after rupture is on him the kiting game starts but stick to him until your evasion is off. USE crippling poison on both weapons! After your evasion is off make sure he has crippling poison on him and then run away from him to regain energy. (Best path to kite him is going up the hill above the cave and make circuits there around the cave) After u regained full energy run to him again use preperation if u are subtlety spec which i recommend and hit evasion again. Same tactic, once you have 5 combo points on him, rupture but remember to keep attacking him until evasion is off. Every time now is 5 combos>rupture>run away and kite. After all evasion cds are off, no matter should you have 1 or 2 at your exposal, u kite him as much as u can using crippling,your bow/thrown weapon,when crippling is off you wait until he gets to you and start with a gouge no matter if it hits him or not you need to try it>backstab>ghostly strike/hemorhage/sinister and rupture at 5 combos then kite again.

Only thing i havent mentioned now is bandaging which you WILLneed. Best is if u have mageweave bandage or better at your exposal. Usage of bandages can most often be trivial since you have good time to bandage when he has crippling on him (i bandaged 3 if not 4 times on the kill) best advice is to use bandage when you are below 50% hp after the kiting phase starts and your evasion is off.

Sorry for the wall of text but i had to share my tactic to rogues specially low lvl ones when the boss is still a red mob. Hopefully can be helpful for others in some way too :)

CONCLUSION: Doable at lvl 38. GL! :)

As a rogue getting Ana'thek is easy. Sap him while he is about to go into his cave and let the other two go without him, that should give you enough time to kill him and get back into stealth without pulling more.

This quest baffles me, the spawn rate of the Headhunters is incredibly low compared to that of the Berserkers and Spiritchasers and yet you have to kill more Headhunters than Berserkers.

This quest flat out sucks. Its time consuming, like many of blizzards quests. In addition, in style with blizzards desire to annoy you to no ends, they fill the region with mobs who do not pertain to the kill count you need to turn the quest in, often in packs in which, if you aggro one, you aggro them all. So you need to kill 3-6 mobs to simply get one kill related to your quest As if that werent enough, the want you to kill more of the rarest mobs, and few of the ones that heavily populate the area.
There are much, much better and easier places to do split bone necklace and Skullsplitter tusks outside of this area in many of the ruins where you can find the Troll Trophies. Unless you want to waste your time, go there.

I do agree that this quest is a royal pain in the a**. Soloed Ana'thek as a level 41 ret paladin. Kept consecration up whenever it cooled down to take care of his minions, and had to use Lay On Hands once. Not very mana efficient, but it got the job done without dying. There are a few hunters in the area that I didn't have to wait long for respawns, but the beserkers and headhunters are nowhere to be found. All in all, the quest took me a little over an hour....most of the time just looking for mobs to kill. What a pain....

He can also be outside the cave, he came in a mob of 3 towards me today. Am lvl 45 hunter, having a bit of trouble. Better kill Anathek first, loot and then take on the rest...

Ana'Thek is in a cave at 45,44. An easy kill. He walks in and out with a few other trolls. If you wait a minute after he returns, the trolls all run out and leave him for you to kill.

Hes at the southwest corner of Zul Mam'we ruins in the cave of course.
The headhunters and berzekers can be found on the southeast corner of zul mam'we ruins.

If you can't find any headhunters in the area up thehill, or theonly ones you see are standing next to 5 other mobs. All you need to do is kill other people around that immediate area.The spawns are rotating, so if you kill a Skullsplitter Mystic, thre is a good chance he will respawn as a Headhunter. There are about 10 people that can be killed that aren't near enough to aggro others. Just grind these until headhunters appear. It's WAY easier than steaming into a group of 5 mobs and getting your ass handed to you. AND you get XP for grinding all of the non-Headhunters.

Im a lv 45 hunter and i almost died trying to do this by myself. He healed when he got to 1/4 health. Not sure if the spiritmaster that was with him. he also had a berserker with him. i had to fiegn death and let my cat kill him and the the other two ran off. good luck!

and 48,42 is a good place to get the headhunters and berserkers.

this quest took me like 2hours to complete
quest location is true agrohole so don't even bother trying to solo this one. me 39 lock tried to solo but boss is 45 with two ~42 guards. Even if u manage to charge him and kill him his corpse will be gone by the time when u get there from graveyard because u will have to travel from the one that is near Booty bay entrance.

and the trolls suck. they start running when about 20% HP left and bring a lot of adds. never seen patrol with 4 (sometimes 6) trolls sometimes it happens to be 2 groups so it's 8 or 12 trolls to deal with.

i tried to solo regular mobs and it was fine but those trolls are everywhere and they respawn pretty fast in like 5 minutes or less. casters cast roots so it sucks even more

tried with a 44 warrior guildie but could not handle agro and adds so we had to find another one
with 42 rogue help finally we found so headhunters near named boss and killed them

also we wiped once when dealing with 4mobs because few of them ran away and came back with adds so in 30 seconds we had like 10-12 mobs surrounding us. running wont work here because they are everywhere and you just agro more of them unless u have a mount

I found him (and two other trolls) walking around in the Ruins of Zal'mamwe at exactly 47,41. There were two other trolls with him. I didn't find him in a cave like other posts have suggested.

As a lvl 45 shammy I couldn't kill all three, so I just killed Ana'Thek as quick as I could, picked up his armor, then died right after.

Headhunters and bererkers. If your lookin at the face of the cave go to the left, beastmaster or two keep going left till u see a path, climb up the hill. U should see an elite mystic and other mystic to your immediate left of that headhunters and berserkers. Hope this helps

Soloed as lvl 45 enhancement shaman.
Not too bad, used one mana potion when killing the guy for the armor.
Location was correct, and the camp full of headhunters and berserkers is right beside the cave, taking your time you can pick through them easily enough.

there is no problems with him spawning. i soloed him as a 42 mage, looted his broken armour and then was killed by adds.
when i went back to my corpse he had already spawned again, in about 3 minutes!

Ana'Thek the Cruel will wander out of the cave alone. I tried killing him and Feigning Death, but failed. After I came back, he began wandering with his two escorts. I continued to kill trolls while I waited for him to return. He left the cave and came back twice. On the third trip out, he was running out alone.

45, 45 is where I pulled him to kill.

All of the "kill the trolls" quests in STV can be challenging and a group is highly advisable.
The reasons are:
1)Patrols.
2)Multiple adds.
3)Mobs runnig away and aggroing others.

As a warlock, Curse of recklessnes is a life saver here.Anathek will patrol out of his cave.I was just around killing trolls for the quest when i saw him.He had a caster/healer and another troll with him.Cleared around, sent VW, had him AoE taunt.Then put Curse of recklessnes on Anathek, ran in and used Howl of Terror.Now its just me and him.Killed him, looted armor and died to some 5 trolls who came back.I came prepeared, so i was soulstoned and rezed right away.

Note:if you plan on doing that or something similar, very important to clear around first so you can rez without aggroing anything.

Ana'thek is in the cave with a spirit chaser and a skullsplitter beserker.i waited untill he had walked out with his 2 pallies and i went inside the cave turned on my stealth and waited for them to come back as soon as they came back the spirit chaser ran off and i sapped the beserker and went on to deal with Ana'thek i didnt have any problems as a lvl 43 rogue. have fun.

Ana-whateverhisnameis stays in the cave which matches the co-ordinates repeated above. He does patrol now it seems, although he has 2 adds who follow him, contrary to what has been suggested above. As a rogue, stealth-attacking him after sapping one of the others presents no problems. Just Vanish afterwards or Sprint like the cowards we are. I solo-ed the quest at level 45 - the quest is still yellow.

well what i did with my druid, hunter and warrior was kill the healer (with my pet i stuck him on ana) and then killed him then killed the last guy or i died. killing the mobs until the right ones spawned, staring it then leaving it for another day worked wonders :)

i did it with a shadow priest when he was in the cave i mc the healer and they kill him then they went for me i dot Ana embrace him mind blast and flay him he was dead i kill the other one a berserker ... ez quest i had 188 spell dmg and 1.9k hp 3k mana not some shadoweave armor dreamweaver chest gloves usin sm weapons (dagger and orb)

Just soloed this quest with 46 rogue...buffed up with defensive and agility pots, well-fed with stam and spirit buff and instant poisons on both weaps. After killing all of the mobs required, I entered the cave and sapped the caster, blinded the berserker and chopped down Ana'thek (ignoring the beserker who was recovered by the time Ana'thek was dead. I looted Ana'thek and vanished. All told, it took me a couple of potions some special food and the better part of an hour.

Not too hard for a warlock. Did it at level 40. Just clear out the few mobs wondering around the cave first.

Once you go inside (make sure you've got your SS up), send your VW at the healer. Once he has aggro, dot up healer, fear the main guy, dot up the berserker. Then keep fearing the big guy (I know you'll get some resists, just bear with it), while draining the other two to death.

Now about the time those two collapse, your VW will be on it's last legs, if not dead (or sacrificed) already, and you'll be running short on mana and health w/the main guy pounding away. No problem, just make sure you're near the cave entrance...and let him finish you off. Now he'll run back inside, you use your SS, summon VW (or anything really) and proceed to own him one-on-one.

Couldn't quite get Ana'Thek by myself as a 39 hunter. Just a case of him being too high above me so my pet couldn't hold aggro, he resisted feign death, etc. The adds were 44 and 43 each time I tried. The rest of the quest wasn't so bad. Even as a 39, I was just careful with my pulls, ran/feigned when I had too, but never died from the regular mobs.

If a hunter <40 manages to pull it off, a blow by blow would be appreciated.

It's simple for the mages out there. As a 44 I made sure everyone around the cave was dead then sheeped the spiritchaser and took out Ana then turned tail and ran. After the berserker stopped chasing me I ran back and collected Ana's gear and killed the other 2. Simple for me hope it works for you! :)

I don't get it. Being a 44 Rogue that generally can do quests above the level most people can, I had an extremely hard time with this. First off even stealthing in the area is absolutely riddled with mob. Fighting a hunter mob 6 times always pulled additional adds no matter how careful I was pulling or ganking them.

When I did get to the cave the main Anor guy never left the company of his two escorts, who constantly wandered in and out of that caver. He was 44 (non-elite) with two 43's by him, but they hit hard. I sapped one, and took down Anor and vanished. After healing came back and sapped one and took down the other, then had to use Prep-Vanish to not die. Healed, and took out the 3rd guy. Fortunately Anor was still there and I could loot the armor from him.

Without having the oh-^&*! Vanish button, I don't know how anyone at level 44 could do this alone.

I died three times and used a 1/2 stack of flash powder on this quests.

this quest is kinda hard because the mobs are so close together that when you go for 1 they run 1 step and another comes .. i died a couple times as a 42 lock but i got them in the end

- Put void on Boss, DoT : Sihpon Life, Agony and Corruption on ALL 3 (boss and 2 adds) make void do Suffering (aoe-aggro thing) , life-tap couple a times and life drain. Adds died before boss, ..

All the other ones COULD have been easy...

But I just had to spam Howl of Terror ^^ Pullin 12 of em at a time (+) sux. Do NOT fear .

Yeah.....I don't know about the rest of you, but when it comes to the Headhunters....they are better protected than the chief!, Solo'd it all, but for the Headhunters as a Level 42 Rogue. Then I used the idea about killing the 3 mobs above the 2 areas where Elite Witch Doctor is. Had to wait for the respawns , took over an hour, but got them eventually.
How I did the Chief and his 2 Compatriots, waited at cave mouth, they came back, as they were walking in, sapped chief at door, they walked on in leaving him behind, picked his pocket, cheap shot, backstab, normal attacks, gouge, backstab, slice and dice, then a combo of gouge and backstab till combo points were up for enviscerate, game over. Stealth into cave, sap the zerker, pick pocket, sap the spirit, pick pocket, cheap shot zerker, and begin the proccess all over again, spirit woke, blind, zerker dead, gouge the spirit, backstab, slice and dice still carrying on from last guy, was all over. Even though it is a low level poison, can't go past Crippling on one of the blades, and best instant poison on the other.

I did this quest with a 44 warlock and a felhunter. When entering the cave, I sent the felhunter in first to distract the adds, then poured shadow bolt - finishing with death coil. I soulsphered myself before entering, so when the adds killed me and returned to their positions, i rezzed and looted the corpse.

Soloed him with a 43 rogue hes easy. If you're a rogue just wait for him to start walking out with his guards and sap him. The guards keep walking and when they're far enough away all you have to do is beat the hell out of him ^_^

im a lvl 41 prot spec paladin, I found the cave at 44,44 right, and easily soloed him (lvl 45) and his 44 and 43 guards, the main trick is to take out the spirit guy first, because he does massive damage with his lightning and can also heal, try to intturept the heals if you can. i used arcane torrent (blood elf) and hammer of justice for interrupting. but once you get spirit down get rid of the berserker as he has way less hp then captain ugly. once i got them two down it was pretty much a strait forward fight, woulda been easy if the spirit hadnt gotten a crit on me with mana burn... i was drained! Anyways, so im there lvl 41, at 1/3 hp, vs a lvl 45 at full hp. he's hittin about 90-100 on me per hit. the trick is that you must never underestimate small heals, seal of light, as long as i kept that up both my mana and hp were steadily rising. basically i out tanked him, lol

42 lock, i made my way to the cave through the city running around the top of the wall where that elite troll is, i aggroed a berzerker and a spirit dude while i was doing it zerker came to me and i killed it, moved outta range of the caster and he started runned to me.. pulled both of the rooms so i had to run like a mofo, had to sac VW to make it out alive... i don't suggest this route. finally made it to cave, sent VW in to hold aggro dotted the boss and one of his adds, boss was at 25% life when i had to Sac VW before it died, summoned another while i was shielded (SHIELD WEARS OFF BEFORE NEW SUMMON) instantly sac'd that one killed boss.. started to run and adds killed me, SS'd looted and ran.

I Ran this as a LvL 45 BM Hunter hit the boss first using Beatial Wrath feign Death on 2 adds finished them off very easy infront of cave 44.45.

to Continue the Above Post is Partialy Right! the hunters/Headhunters do share a spawnpoint but the Proper Coords are 48.44 same place where you can kill "Mogh the Undying"

If you're a hunter, don't bother to fake death, it won't work on Ana'Thek, He'll keep on hitting you. I thought the hardest part would be to kill him, but I found out that head hunters are the pain in the neck. I only spotted two of them, and they are surrounded by so many that it is impossible to get to them without aggro the rest. I managed to kill 2 but I died in the process. It is frustrating because I got everything else, but I am gonna have to come back with reinforcement just to finish the quest. :(

The rewards are a blue staff which increases spell dmg and and healing done by some amount i can't remember, or you can have a blue necklace which increases attack power and stamina +10. After you do this quest there are three other easy ones.

I'd like to confirm that Ana'thek's spawn appears to be bugged. I saw him in the cave and started medding to take him on, when two other people ran in and killed him (without bothering to ask if, just maybe, I might need to kill him too).

After that I waited around for about two hours for him to respawn and never saw him again.

yeah they come out and wander around. i found out the hard way. i was killing a mob of a scout and three hunters and my pet was tanking right outside the front of the cave. well i accidentally agroed a with doctor and was like whatever, i can handle him too. but then i see them coming. i tried to run but they caught me.

I killed Ana'thek in the cave, but I later saw him spawn in the middle area of the camp, so perhaps people who can't find him could try looking around not sure about co-ordinates though sorry :(

Easiest mob was Berseker as they often are standing alone, Hunters are a bit tougher as the have their pet (kill hunter first), Ana'teck was in a cave with 2 leutenants. He is ok to kill and loot, if you accept to be killed, but those Headhunters. Hamstring and ranging, are hard, especially when buffed up with some shadowchasers, who also ar doing ranged dmg.
Possible to solo as lvl 44 shaman

To turn in quest, go to the cauldron, and right click on it. You should be able to turn it in. Even though it doesn't give you a gold coin to let you know who to turn it in to. Nice quest, i had no prob. finding the main guy.

i spoke with a GM about the damn headhunters. all he told me was they "will respawn in time" and that the quest works correctly. is it? this is not right. no one need to waste hours waiting for a certain type of general mob to respawn in order to cplete your quest

No difficulty finding berserkers or hunters, but Headhunters do not appear to exist on my server. Ana'thek was no problem; in fact, I first killed him in the cave and then he got even while wandering in the camp.

Basically, there's two things you need to remember. The named mob is a pat that stops in the cave for a few seconds. Headhunters are kinda like secondary mobs, so if you can't find any, kill the enemies in the first temple to the left of where you normally enter the ruins, and the headhunters will spawn in their place in about 5 min. I figured it out after I was camped by 4 ally. YOU DO NOT NEED TO KILL THE ELITE to make the headhunters spawn. Just clearing the first half of the ruins will give almost enough headhunters for the quest to finish.

Boom, done.

Hunters and Berserkers are easy to find, if you can't find a lot, clear their area, wait for respawn.

This quest seems bugged. Yes I found Ana'thek the Cruel and yes I killed him and looted his broken armor. I got to camp but I can't turn it in. "Continue" button is grey. I tried relogg and to put the broken armor in main backpack. Still nothing.

Had no problems finding him, he was in the cave at 44,44.

I just ran in as Cat and pounced on the spiritchaser, killed him, and then ran away. Once the named and the beserker went out of combat, I prowled back, killed the beserker, and then ran away again. This only left the named which I was able to defeat; had to pop to caster and place HOTs on myself midway through the battle before returning to Cat to finish him off.

Done as 42 druid, gave 3950 XP reward.

Found Ana'thek in the cave 44,44.
At the strand there are a whole bunch of headhunters (together with some casters).
The hunters just wander around, Berserkers mostly stand alone.

Tip for the horde; Do this quest together with "Speaking with Nezzliok"
It's a great time-saver (coords for this one are; 42.36 - 46.32 - 47.39)

If you read the quest text is says that you are first supposed to "Slay the fiercest among them". My guess is ana'thek spawns after killing a certain named in the camp.

Title pretty much says it. Then again maybe i just had such a hard time because my comp and STV don't seem to agree with each other in general. This is not an exaggeration when i say i had to kill that punk Ana'thek 4 times before i was givin credit for the quest (for a grand total of 8ish Ana'thek kills) simply because i (being the geneous i am) was getting ready to raid and i figured i could do this quest fairly quickly as i do with most STV quests. Unfortunately, 4 kills later i still couldn't get credit for bringing him down. Finally i figured it out and left the group and started getting credit for it. Just over an hour later and approximately at 95% durability for everything, i finished. Not a fun quest for a lvl 42 priest. Though i will say i didn't have a single issue with Ana'thek spawning, so maybe blizzard fixed it?

43 rogue here.
Ana'thek is tough with his 2 compadres.
I waited till they left the cage, went in and stealthed against a wall. When they came in I just waited till they were leaving and Sap'ed the most feared one (a caster). When the other 2 left, I took care of the caster alone.
Repeat. Stealth. Now, it's only Ana'thek and a berserker. Sap berserker, kill Ana'thek, loot, kill berserker. Easy.

This quest takes place at Zul'Mamwe. The Berserkers & Headhunters are located up on the SE hill around 46,43. The hunters are found throughout. Don't get them confused with the Beastmasters unless you want to kill more. Ana'thek roams from the SW cave at 44,44 and walks NE along the path to it with his crew. He is level 45ish and has two others with him, around 43-44.

Ana'thek can be most often be found in a cave at 44,44, but he will from time to time roam from the cave to about 47,40, allthough he won't be gone for too long. He's protected by two others, of which the caster will be healing him. Hunters can be found in the vicinity of the cave, and Headhunters and Berserkers can be found in the area around 47,43. Have fun!
