Whew! I just soloed this as a 31 shaman and I had to do more graveyard runs than I'd like to admit. The warlocks do run around a lot, so the challenge is to pull them away from other enemies, or else they'll pick up adds. Of course, they're casters, and it's in tight quarters, so while you try to pull them away, chances are they'll be tossing shadowbolts at the back of your head.

I suspect ranged characters (nukers and hunters) will have better luck with this place. They can CC the voidwalker pets if need be, and then just out-DPS the warlocks. The warlocks don't run around, I assume, if you're not getting up into melee range.

Oh, and the boss guy is just a plain ol' warrior type; no specials that I saw. Easy as pie.

Just soloed as a 29 druid, the trick well the thing i do lol was kill one of the two warlock closer to him, and well then you die, but when you return you can pull without any adds and loot his head. ;)

Just soloed as 29 hunter.

the trick for me was to kill the 2 warlocks at the bottom floor, always send pet in first. After that i had no trouble walking in withouth aggro, use eyes of the beast to control your pet, walk him up to the first warlock then let him run down far enough for you to be in line of sight. Do this all the way up, i had no trouble doing this, not even with the top level, i could easily get the 2 at the stairs, regain health and mana.
Last thing, send your pet to one of the warlocks next to Athrikus, this will also aggro him, but that's allright as long as you remember to slow down the warlock so it doesn't run !
Kill the warlock, then Athrikus and last the voidwalker, and voila you've got the head. No harm done :)

Easy to solo as a Mage. Be sure to use Counterspell on the warlocks to reduce damage. They'll then run towards you to melee, so frost nova them and their minion, then DPS. Repeat for each. Just be careful of the threat from counterspell, although I didn't have any problems.

I tried this several times and finally soloed it at level 35, as a priest. It was still yellow. At L30, the two warlocks at the base of the tower were still able to combine and kill me. Tonight the right warlock would just evade, but I think that I could have taken the pair.

The warlocks will always attack before their minions. Routine was shield, dot, dot, manaburn, manaburn, wand if needed. re-shield, dot, wand the minion. Only one warlock would attack at a time. I was able to single pull all warlock/minion pairs, just walking around the tower. If I could not easily target the warlock, I would let them attack to establish a target, as the warlock would always attack before sending their pet. If you attack from a distance with a spell or probably an arrow, attacking the warlocks adjacent to Athrikus did not aggro him, although that might have been a level thing - a lower level might have a higher aggro radius. In any case I never want to go into that silly tower again, at least with this toon.

There were respawns before I started down the tower. I could go down one stair while they were on the other without aggroing and kill the ones I had to. I would not do that on the way up because I was worried about him calling his minions for help but there had already been repops on the lower levels that did not interfere.

Yep, not too hard. Just solo'd him 3 times as a level 33 warrior while waiting for a party member to come along.

It's possible to pull a voidwalker and warlock on their own each time and work your way around to the main dude.

Just solo'd this as a 31 feral Druid. I was able to stealth up to the top lvl, just have to watch the patterns of the locks. Then it took me 2 "death trips", to get a clear space where i could pull the lock to the left of Athrikus. Then was able to solo pull him and kill him. Then stealthed back down. GL!!

With a shaman level 30 solo him had hard time take 1 voidstalker and 1 warlock at a time easyer to aggro at this level but he died...

Anyone as an idea if the "journal page" is a trash item ?

Before you're near the boss, you can pull 1 on 1 to lower floor level. They shall follow you to the trap, then nuke them. Soloable at l33 shaman. When done, fight with boss is easy.
It's indeed pretty thight with many warlocks and adds. and they respawn pretty fast.

I died in the begin, rezz at floor below boss (1 lower floor) - that saves you long time fight and you can start with pulling mobs from top floor.

Towers are really frustrating.

I see my pet and who he's fighting, but since its on a curve it says target is not in line of sight, but I can see him.

Hard quest at 29.

Feel like I could do it if I could navigate the tower better.

Easy as pie....soloed this quest as a L32 shaman didn't die once... the quarters are tight but earthshock is for the win... stoneclaw every other voidwalker and it was just a matter of killing the target.
earthshock stops them from running away from you to cast and makes them run to you to melee. Once you earthshock them move away from other npcs and its done.

Did it as a lvl 30 feral druid, was pretty easy. Killed the warlock/voidwalker pairs on my way up (being careful to watch for pats), killed the pair at the top of the stairs (on the opposite side of the room from Athrikus), then pulled the pair close to him. He aggroed as well, but I tossed up some HoTs, used a health pot for good measure, and went back to kitty to kill them all.

Easy soloable as 32 combat rogue.

The tower is filled by warlocks with Void Walkers. These warlocks are dangerous only for a reason: they always try to escape from melee range to nuke you with shadowbolts. For that reason is important to not challenge them in tight spaces, otherwise they will bring adds.
One simple trick: sap warlocks, killing their pet in the meanwhile, then finish them easily, kicking when they shadow bolt. If you kick them they will escape anyway, but they will come back a short after to hit you in melee (they cannot cast for 5 seconds).
On the last floor there are 4 warlocks + Void Walkers with Athrikus: you can pull each of them without aggroing Athrikus. Sap each warlock, as usual, pulling her pet and killing it in a safe place; then climb down one ramp breaking line of sight and wait for the sapped warlock to follow you down: you have plenty of space to kill each of them without aggroing anyone else.
Once every warlock is dead, Athrikus is a piece of cake.

Just soloed as a lv28 Rogue...not too hard if you're willing to die a couple of times. Stealth in, watch for the movement patterns of the warlocks and their minions and slip past them, then at the top of the tower sneak up behind the target and focus on killing him. Die...run back and loot the body. Die...run back and rez...turn in quest. Voila.

I did it as 32 Rouge and died a couple of times due mistakes, but may be there's a bug after patch 2.4. I killed Athrikus but I died with him. When I returned for my body (2 minutes after), Athrikus was respawned altough his corpse was in front of him! I had to sap him again to loot his corpse an get his head for complete the quest. Crazy if you ask me... lol.

Unsoloable as a Lvl 29 hunter. Unsoloable at Lvl 30 & 31. And, erm, unsoloable at Lvl 32. Ditto Lvl 33.
I FINALLY completed this quest at Lvl 34. At the enterance to the tower, there is a patrolling warlock and pet that crosses over the warlock that is in view. I suggest waiting a few seconds (6 secs works ^^) until they pass. Sent in pet first, set Freezing Trap infront of me for Voidwalker, Scorpid Sting & Arcane Shot the warlock. Pet & I finished Voidwalker off together. Waited for patrolling mob and killed them. Same with the 2nd & 3rd floor. Waited for the warlock that comes down the spirally (O.o lol) stairs. Killed them. Ran up the stairs, aggroed the mob on my right, ran down the stairs (Pet on Passive) and killed them on the 3rd floor. Ran up again, did the same with the mob on left. (The upside of being a high lvl compared to the mobs is that you don't aggro that much :)) Killed the warlock next to Athrikus. Didn't run down the stairs. Finished Athrikus next. Had enough time to open the chest there before he respawned :O Beware! They all spawn that fast! Had to fight my way out!

So had some trouble, but was ECTATIC when I finished. Mind you, my friend's Lvl 70 main & his friends was getting OWNED by a Lvl 60 Elite, so I guess that made me pretty patient and happy! ^^

I had to register just to add this comment, since nobody appears to have mentioned it yet. Provided that you're either a rogue or a druid, you can solo this quest as long as you've done a little preparation.

Get food buffed before you go in to the tower. Stealth your way up to the 2nd level from the top and clear the one patrol that walks up and down the staircase between that level and the top floor, then stealth up behind Athrikus (it helps tremendously to have a talented stealth ability as a rogue, or feral instinct as a druid).

The way I finished this with my 28 druid was by opening up with rake, faerie fire, claw to 5 cp, then rip and refreshed rake. This is where you pop your Light of Elune that you received as a quest reward from: Mage Summoner because you should be very nearly dead at this point. The important thing is to not use the item too soon - you want to use it when you're close to dying so that it's still active with enough time to loot. The combination of your bleed effects and continued melee should be more than enough to burn him down with time to spare on your bubble.

Loot him as soon as he dies, then jump over the railing so that you land on the stairway going down to the next level (which should still be clear at this time) and vanish / shadowmeld to reset agro. Then it's just a matter of healing up and stealthing your way out to turn in the quest.

I know, doing it this way requires that you waste the single greatest alliance only item in the game. That said, I've still yet to find 'the perfect use' for the Light of Elune on any of my other characters - it's still rotting in their banks - so if you're one of those people that likes solo challenges, this is a great time to make use of it.

Edit: just to clarify, this is mainly a strat for solo players who want to try to take him down at a relatively low level without having to make use of the 'kill / die / respawn and loot / die again' method. If you've got a use in mind for the Light of Elune, just party up with another player and finish the quest in a normal way.

This quest is similar to Morganth in Redridge - identical towers, lots of dark magic and a boss to kill at the top.. and they're both pretty difficult to solo at the "correct" level.

Don't bother with this quest unless you want Loremaster (By which time you'll be 80 and this'll be cake) or you really need Darnassus rep or you actually want the rewards at the end.

This quest is just a pain. To get to the tower you go through a field of low level but annoying mobs. Inside, you have to battle enemies on every floor that wander around, which means you will often be fighting two warlocks (as well as their minions) at a time. On the top floor, the mobs are so jampacked that it is almost impossible to only pull one (if you can stealth behind one and engage it close to you, you will only have to kill that warlock), but even if you manage to pull one, they will without a doubt attempt to run away and aggro another mob. Then once you get the warlocks down, you fight the boss, who is probably the easiest part of the quest.

Just don't do it. Even as a level 30 (for which this quest is yellow), it's tough and not worth your trouble.

Solo'ed as well-geared 29 Mage. Died 5 times, and the GY is not very close so that's a pain. The mobs inside the tower are lvl 29. Their shadow bolts hit for about 120 and the Voidwalkers melee for about 50 on cloth.

Sheep the casters and frost nova the minions, then take them down. Keep Mana Shield up. Try to Counterspell, but don't rely on it. Keep health pots handy. They have a ton of arcane resistance, so you should expect your Polymorph and Counterspell to fail often. When in doubt, burn down the caster and let the Voidwalker hit you, because one shadow bolt crit can finish you off.

It is possible to pull each pair of mobs separately, though it is also quite easy to pull more than one, which is almost a guaranteed death.

I soloed it like 30 Disciple Priest. Died 3 times, then I used Mind Soothe at the warlocks at the top floor. Worked very well - they didn´t call for help after that, so you can kill them one after another.

I 've done this quest twice Solo (by mistake) at a lv.32/33 Hunter it can be done, I found the secret is to take as many Warlocks down as you can, by luring them away from the top level. Firstly kill the Warlock's first because they run away in the first few hit's of your attack, and summon more help. When you do get to the top work around clockwise, because the boss tended to join in on the last one or two remaining , But it did a lot of dying to get this far. (PS if you do die recarnate as near the last place you died ,because there is a fast turnover when it comes to the warlocks reviving).

I usually do not moan about difficult quests often, as I hear too much "This game is too easy waaah" so its fun to point out quests that are difficult and challenging to people who say that.

But this is complete and absolute hell. As a 31 Shadow Preist, i died 5 times before completely giving up. The warlocks have high shadow resistance and on the last level i managed to agro THREE of the warlocks who swiftly shadow bolted me into oblivion.

In a word: Hell.

The drop rate on part 4 of this chain is horrible. Its not worth it. There are too many quests with low drop rates to spend time on this kind of thing. my opinion of course, up to you if you wish to spend time on it. But as I try to complete, I can say, never again with any other toon.

Easy soloed as a 30 Feral druid (0/14/7)

My strategy was this:

First, stealth all the tower till you reach the top with Narassin
Second, kill a lock. if she tries to scape or pull another add, simply kill the lock and then use your racial. The lock's vw will dessapear and the add will return to her position.
Repeat this till you have cleared the npc.

Note: i got it in my first try. Only quest-geared.

I think the level on this mission is way underated, because this one is tough! Either that or they forgot the "Elite" part. I am level 33 now and still have not been able to do this one.

The problem with this mission is as soon as you go into the tower, half the warlocks and their minions aggro. Even the ones from higher levels of the tower will come down and beat on you. It's not unusual to have 3 or 4 warlocks and their Voidwalkers within a few seconds of me stepping inside the tower. I am going to have to get a group of 3 or 4 together to do this....or wait till I'm level 45 or something like that.

Consider yourself warned.

After 10+ attempts to solo this quest with my 31 warrior and not making it anywhere close to the top of the tower, I was just about ready to dump it when a level 50 druid came in and cleared the tower out for me.

As a warrior, its difficult to pull the warlocks since they will just sit there and spam shadow bolts on you over and over for around 150 dmg a pop...very painful if not dealt with quickly. They also like to run away from you to setup their casts which can cause problems since there are plenty of other mobs walking around above you that will agro. You need to take your time to assure no adds, but these mobs spawn so fast that you can't move too slow.

No idea why they put a 30+ quest out in darkshore...since its difficult to find anyone in the area to help within this level range...

no matter what everybody says it is for most classes impossible to do exept for rogues maybe
and the spawnrate of the casters is insane....
i killed the 2 in the hall went up the stairs and killed the 3th when the first one from the hall attacked me, i run outside and all the low lvl's where back...this simply stinks...do this when your at least 4 lvls above the 31

I did solo this last night with my 34 (then 33) druid. Used catform, sneaked all the way to the top of the tower, decloaked and killed him suicidal. Ran back, ressed, looted the corpse, died. Ran back again, ressed just outside the tower, got the loot and got to the guy with the head. The annoying part was when I discovered that upon completion of the last step, to speak with Delgren at Maestra's Post, I was left with 14 xp to level to 34. 14! That's not even 0.01% of the total exp, and I'm in the middle of a grey area! /cry... But then I did the escort quest with his friend, killed all the level 24's and got 575 exp, which was sufficient for me to level. So now I'm 34 ^^. And yes, the quest IS difficult, took me 3 failed tried before I came up with the above "solution"... but good luck peeps. Probably not easily soloed by any other class than rogue and druid in catform, and darn difficult to get to the end of... but give it a try. Would recommend getting help though ^^.

I soloed this at 31 rogue.
Notes:
* Sap the warlock, kill voidwalker, kill warlock
* use mind-numbing poison + crippling poison - The mindnumbing poison will cause the warlock to have slow cast times on their shadowbolts and the cripling poison will make them run slow.
* For get killing the mobs on the lower level

1) Sneak up to the level under the last floor and kill the wandering gaurd and the other mob (this should remove the wandering gaurd from coming up and agro'ing)
2) kill the 2 near the stairs
3) kill the one on the right hand of him (you can do this without drawing aggro)
4) you will have the warlock on the left and your target. Sap the warlock and kill your target.
5) Vanish or run like hell.

I just soloed this with a lvl 29 hunter. However, it took me about 2 hours. The reason it took me so long is the quick respawns, almost had the boss killed a few times but was killed by a respawned lock and pet.

I followed the advice of the 31 pally, except I rezed on the 2nd floor from the top rather than the top floor. Anyway, kill the patrol first that walks between the top and 2nd from the top floors. Then kill the lock sitting at the bottom of the ramp to the top. Proceed to clear out the top floor, working your way out from the ramp to each side. Kill all that you can, except you don't have to kill one of the locks to either side of the boss. Since the boss will run up to you to attack, you can pull him to the opposite side of the room from the last lock left standing. Make sure you keep him slowed by any means necessary since he will try to run around when his health is low. Loot him as soon as you drop him, because there will most likely be respawns bearing down on you. And you must always, always make sure the room is still clear of all locks, except for maybe that one, before you attack the boss.

One of my favorite alts has done the early stages of this quest and I was debating whether to pass on the last stage, so I went back to catch up on all the comments.

Bravo to all of you who completed it! Kudos to those who died several times figuring out how to unstack the odds and report back to us. Many thanks for actually taking the time to tell us about it.

My problem is that all of us have spent a lot of time and mental energy sorting this out. For what? The XP is too low (at any level) and the rewards are....a blue? A green? How about zilchorama?

I am a big fan of chain quests with a good story and I'll spend four times as much time on them as the usual delivery, escort or extermination quests. But this is one of the worst in terms of bang for the buck, particularly after you've done some of the really good later ones, like the Fallen Hero.

My point is only this: the early stages of this chain are fun and have reasonable XP and rewards. The last two stages are not worth your time, no matter how much time you have.

I was helping 2 lvl21's and a 27 do the quest the other day. Every time we would engage one, the entire floor would agro from the stairwell. However, if they stayed down a floor and I went up just myself(lvl 33), I could get only one a time. From that experiment, I'd say don't bother at lvls lower than 30 unless you can stealth or have a group capable of taking the entire floor at once. At >lvl30, its pretty easy as you should be able to just fight one at a time. Another hint is dont chase the casters, they'll only run about 5 or 10 yds from you to cast the spells, chasing lets them keep running in that direction and agro's more.

Lvl 33 Druid - solo'd no problem.

2 important keys:

1) Wait for the wandering ones - there's one on each level that goes back and forth between two levels.

2) At the top, pull one side then the other and pull them downstairs just in case they run. When you pull the one closest to Anthrikus you're gonna get him too, pull them way back or down the stairs or you'll get both locks and him - a suicide pull.

I just defeated the leader of Dark Strand cult and claimed his head.
We were me Druid lv24 and priest lv 30.
It wasn't exactly a piece of cake but it was satisfying to complete.
When trying to clear the top floor is really hard to pull them one by one... 3 warlocks with their minions came. I went bear tanking most of the mobs and when health was low used an item called Light of Elune that made me immune for 10 secs, fully healed and bear again until all died.

Also was scary that once we killed the leader some of the warlocks were respawning already :x

i did this on my own, first try, as a warlock. its all a matter of taking everything slowly, and one at a time. it was easy with a pet, because you can send the pets after the voidwalker, and take on the warlock. like the tortise and the hare says, slow and steady wins the race.

One reason this is an easy quest for Rogues is because it's almost exactly like the lvl 20-25 poison quest we had to do. Also because it's a classic assassination. Stealth to the top of the tower, time your attack so you don't draw attention to yourself, then Vanish (using flash powder) after you finish the assassination/looting.

Too bad the quest rewards suck for a rogue (a two hand sword we can't use and a cloth armor that's useless for us), but it's worth it for the XP and rep...

FINALLY I did it:)
4 times with no luck. The 5th time I used Shadow protection potion.
So-I prowled to the second floor. Used the potion-killed few minions-used 2nd potion-killed the rest together with the boss.
With that potion its a little bit easier-helped me a lot.
So level 31-its doable:)

Managed to solo quite easily as a lvl 34 priest (shadow-spec). Just pulled the warlocks carefully one at a time and did that the whole way up. Cleared the top floor in the same way before attacking the boss one on one. Came only close to dying once on the way out when I got attacked from one of the wanderers while fighting another warlock.

This quest is way underrated, as several people have already pointed out. I went in with a l vel 32 Mage and was killed on the ground floor. I decided to rez and make a run up the ramps, just to see how far I would get. Not past the 2nd floor...

I went back and climbed to the 3rd floor and rezzed right behind Narassin, tossed down one each of an armor, health and mana potion, then (without any time as the mobs were on me immediately) I hit him with one shot from my wand. I died.

I went back again, rezzed just outside the tower (on the west side of it) and killed the nearest cultist.

Being frustrated at the ridiculously difficult nature of this quest, and not having a dog to kick around, I took it out on a handy lvl 14 Moonstalker kitty. Did I forget to mention I was PO'd? Well, I tried to beat it to death with just my gloves on...Marquis du Queensbury Rules or something. I started with an Unarmed combat skill of 1. When I noticed the kitty wasn't hurting too much (except a few points damage from the Chill effects of my Ice Armor spell as it tried to scratch and bite me to death) I shot it down with my wand.

So far, the only thing this quest has done is cost me time, some assorted potions, and improved my skill at Urnarmed combat to 47, thanks to the damned cat. :-/

I might as well look for more felines...I'm still annoyed and seem to be making rapid gains toward a Black Belt or something like that. I wonder how many kitties it takes to get to a skill level of 160 in Unarmed?

This one was a real challenge. Here are some tips.

1) Always take out the caster first. They have less health and cause far more damage. Then do the Voidwalker (caster's demonic pet).

2) You have to move quickly. The mobs respawn rapidly. Make certain you have a good supply of food, water, bandages, and potions.

3) If you find yourself struggling, buy or make some shadow protection potions. The casters spell damage is shadow. I used one in the final fight. It probably wasn't necessary, but I wanted the insurance.

4) For a Druid or Rogue, use stealth and start with the most damaging attack possible on each caster. You want to eliminate the caster ASAP. The value of melee is it slows their casting rate.

5) The casters move. When they move, chase them down as fast as possible to minimize their casting and to keep your DPS as high as possible.

6) Some of the mobs patrol. Be aware of that so you don't take an add. If you get two, you will probably need to run, and hope you don't get more adds.

7) For the mobs on either side of the boss you will need a distance pull. You don't want to agro the boss, too. Use an instant cast spell when they have moved as far from the boss as possible. Then, run down a level and the caster and pet will follow (line of sight, pull).

8) I found the boss easy, but I used a Shadow Protection potion, and cast Regrowth and Rejuvenation prior to opening up with Starfire & Moonfire, followed by going into cat form, and going all out with DPS.

Good luck. This one wasn't easy for my level 30 Druid.

By the way, my gear is all greens with one blue from Gnomer. This is not a twinked toon.

After several failed attempts with another player, I completed this solo with my level 31 Bal/rest Druid without dying. (Leveled to 32 during the quest) The first three times I attempted this was with a lvl29 hunter, but it seemed her pet or the fact that there were just more of us aggroed large numbers of locks and voids and I got results similar to many of the postings above. I saw the prowl/stealth technique above but I hate dying to achieve a quest - so I went back alone a little later. The trick is just to be careful - but I will give a step by step in case it proves useful.

First I think it is better to go into the tower when it is at full strength - no one has been there recently. Going in a few minutes after someone else has been there makes the respawns difficult to predict and can lead to trouble. Once you have killed the rogue guards outside, go up the steps to the tower and wait. Through the opening you will see the first lock/void - but there is a patrol that comes through here as well. If you wait you will see the patrol pass right in front of the entrance way - wait a few seconds after it has passed and attack the lock stationed in the room (it is best to take out the lock first as they do more damage - this is easy if you're a caster/ranged - if not it might be easier to take the void first as the locks movie around a lot - its also better to bring them out to you) I used a combo of starfire/moonfire/insect swarm followed by a couple of wraths with a regen thrown in there somewhere - I then would switch to cat form to finish off the void, occasionally moonfiring him first for good measure. After that, walk in to the tower wait and finish off the patrol in the same fashion as they come down the stairs.

Go up the stairs to the mid level- there is another pair standing by another staircase - repeat. (don't forget to stop by the chest on the way up tho these guys) Continue up to the library level just below the top level - proceed carefully as there is a patrol that circles from the top level down to this one. If patrol is not there - wait until they come down from top level - repeat as before. Next proceed carefully about two thirds of the way up the final stair case - this is the trickiest part. There is a pair to the right of the stairs and a pair to the left - it is very easy to aggro both of them if you're not careful. The one to the right seems impossible to attack from the stairs because of ridiculous "line of sight" problems - however the one on the left's void can be targeted when he is near the railing. Moonfire or draw him however you will and back down the stairs a little so as not to draw the other pair (be careful not to fall off). In this case I finished off the void before the lock because of line of sight issues - just a regen then into cat - did have to come out to cast regrowth before I finished off lock. Again I found it easier to finish lock with casting - they run around a lot if you melee which increases risk of aggroing others - make them come to you or stay still.

The rest is pretty easy just back up to the top kill the pair on the right wihout running around and then the two pair on either side of the named guy - they are easty to pull as long as you're careful. By the time I had done all this the patrol had popped back. I just stayed out of the way (prowl can help here) waited for them to go downstairs, followed them and killed them. Run back up attack the named guy quick before any other respawns - he's easy, but he will try to run when low. You could fight your way out in the same fashion or stealth out, but it was late so I just hearthstoned back - got my reward later.

Also If you're doing a lot of casting like me, be sure to bring a good supply of sweet nectar or whatever you're drinking these days so as to reduce you're time between attacks - this is key. Hope this helps someone - I found it very rewarding to do this way.

Solo'd as a lv34 warrior. Died a couple times when I got too much "attention", but otherwise got to the pansy upstairs (who didn't cast anything...) and killed him.

Made my way up by being clever and avoided like 3 locks (smaller aggro bubble from lv diff probably helped). The gang up top took a couple deaths and fast running to get rid of... :)

Getting out was easy - jump! The minions won't really get you and you'll only take a couple bolts. Then run like hell. :)

When you went inside tower, pull if possible 1 on 1. Use shadow protection for the tower.
Kill casters first, they do high damage. Then voidwalkers.
If you reach the top floor, there are 4 casters who can walk around.
Thus its better to pull them 1 on 1 and always walk downstairs! That method works better.
If you see cast reaction message (with SCT mod) run now downstairs.

Then there is one mob which you can kill more easier without casters around :)

But if you're finished, the bottom layers of tower is already filled with respawned casters. You have two choices: fight or run.
Because the respawn goes fast, the option to run is better. You can jump quicker down and run away. Don't follow all stairs. Before you know, there are already casters behind you!

Yay..i did it!
It's a tough one...only druids have real chances at a low level.
I finished this quest at 29 being a night elf druid and using my alchemy skill using some potions of Strength and Armor while fighting in Bear form..and to be honest 4 deaths.

Strategy was:
sneak to the top of tower and pull each pair of Warlocks, Void one by one. Start in Bear and when you finish Warlock or Void use Bear stun to get a free heal from Regrowth and fight to the end.

A tip: if warlock runs to depart from you dont follow it cus will returns to your position . Probably many followed them and aggroed other Npc too.

P.S you also need a good equipment to resist the damage. :P

Yea i had to wait on this one till i was lvl35 Priest these bad guys also had minions lvl29 about 10 of them then Athrikus was lvl 31 if u can get a friend at least lvl 31 u might be able to handle this.

Copleted this easily (with a little luck) as a levle 32 rogue. Sealthed in to the floor just below the top floor, and then took advice from an earlier post to kill the patrol. Sealthed to the top, then sapped a warlock & killed her voidwaler. I was lucky enough to kill the warlock before she could run & aggro help. Then killed all of the other warlock's & voids in the room the same way. Fortunately in each case none of them aggro'd any help. When there was one warlock & void left, I sapped & attacked the boss with cheapshot, sinister strike & posion. I was able to kill the boss & the warlock didn't aggro at all.
Then simply stealthed out & turned in the quest.

Just completed this as a level 31 shaman, enhancement spec, with mediocre equipment. Trick is to pull the locks with a lightning bolt, then instantly shock them once they start casting; you make them come to you, and the VW should be hitting on a Stoneclaw totem to get it out of the way. Just beat the crap out of the lock and it'll die.

Single pull the pairs until you get up, with clever maneuvering you can even skip a pair or two. Pull the guy on his own, and you're home free.

Hehe, right after that I finished it!

Ok, it's hard as a Hunter but not impossible, especially if you ding 30 first. FD is a life saver in this one.

1) Stock up. Because of the fast respawn rate you need to cut down your downtime. Bring the best/fastest food/drink with you as well as bandages. I had no potions other than a couple of minor mana and health but it'd be so much easier with some nice buffs.

2) Your first problem area is the entrance. There's one Pair in the base and another that wanders from the base up a flight of stairs and back. Wait for the wanderer to move on, give him six seconds or so to get out of aggro range and kill the base guard.

3) From here to the top is easy as pie. Just take your time and elimainate each pair as you come to them.

4) Top floor is the real killer. You have 4 Pairs and the named mob on top and a wanderer that you can easily run into.

Kill the Wanderer on the floor below the named mob. That way if they run you won't get adds.

5) Next, pull the first Pair on your LEFT at the top of the stairs. For this you stay on the stairs, as far right as you can and inch your way into view. Sting the caster, flee downstairs and finish them off there. I advise putting your pet on Stay/Passive for this. Sometimes the pet will wander into the right hand side Pairs aggro range.

6) Move onto the top floor, occupying the first left side Pairs position. Take out the next pair.

7) Take out the named mob.

Well done!

The hardest part is the initial pull. Do this right and fast enough that the wanderer doesn't respawn and the rest is a doddle.

Don't forget your traps. A good idea would be to sick your pet on the caster, pull the demon, Freeze trap, finish off the caster, then both you and pet finish demon.
Trying to use your cat as an offtank is a bad idea, better off killing each part of the pair one at a time as fast as poss.

Soloed as a level 29 shadow priest. Was challenging but very doable. Normally because of my high spirit I don't drinkat all but I downed about 10 waters to beat the respawns.

I only died once at the very first pull because I pulled two of the warlocks.

Soloed as a level 30 feral druid. It took four attempts but I got it done. I've never had this character in a dungeon so my gear is mediocre, this character is nothing special. I just pulled the warlocks one at a time, using prowl in cat form and casting starfire and then stepping out of line of sight. the key is getting the warlocks one at a time. I recommend a group for this quest if you can, but it is soloable if you take a little time and use a little strategy.

I did this solo at lvl 29 as a shaman but it was difficult. I use my lightning bolts on the voidwalkers(trying to get at least 2 in before they hit me) to deal most of the damage needed to kill them. then after you kill the voidwalker kill its master using man only to heal so u can rebuild because they res kinda fast.

Once u get to the top it gets difficult. If u focus on getting the left voidwalker into sight without dragging u can lightning bolt and take him and his master down a floor to fight. I managed to kill all but one set of the voids and their masters(the last is very close to the guy u have 2 kill) before i died. I ran quickly back to the top to find most had already ressed. the last 1 i killed one next to the main guy hadnt come back yet so i ressed in its spot and fought the main guy by myself and won.

This is a well hard quest, I'm a 30 druid and got to the top easy enough, although just the fact they have voidwalkers is a pain in the arse.
I used a lot of cat form in cloaked mode, pulling them from a range and then taking care of them. You need to watch some of their patrol routes and pick them off where nothing else can see.
The top of the tower is a different matter. You can't solo that. Period. 4 sets of bad guys in close range of each other and a boss. I attempted to stealth one of the mages but since entangling-most-useful-thing-ever-roots dosen't work indoors I was screwed. the mage just ran off when I got close and got friends. Deaded. If you have a guild just get em to boost you this quest and get it out of the way.

I just did the quest on my 31 druid, after a lot of trouble. I used stealth to get to the top and behind the boss but only to die seconds before i killed him. I tried many times but i couldnt do it. But then i tried again , this time with a greater healing pot, and did it, dying just after him. Once i got my corpse back i looted the orpse and legged it out the tower. This is one of the most annoyin quests ever! Ive spent over 1g on armour repairs :\

When I first went adventuring in Darkshore and Ashenvale, some 3 years ago, I didn't even bother with this leg of the quest because many people said it was the hardest one in the game, regardless of level. Often you would see humans, dwarves and gnomes (in addition to the usual component of nightelves) of level 50 and up arriving in groups to try it out and many of them quit after several tries, muttering non-RP comments as they paid their repair bills.

I don't know how many characters I've run through Darkshore (too many, I guess) and none of them ever attempted this, not just because it was ridiculously hard but mostly because the rewards weren't worth (they still aren't) the time.

I only attempted this with my 32 Human Warlock because I'm collecting Darnassus rep so she can get a cat mount at 40. I know I can wait for the Wintersaber, but those quests are SUCH a drag.

Cevanna had it right (for Warlocks); if you are careful to pull one at a time, it's not too hard, but that's a big "if" because if you aggro two, you could well aggro them all and that's it. They run around so they can stop your spells with "line-of-sight" blocking, so you have to follow them, or pull them to you. Line-of-sight doesn't block THEIR spells, by the way.

I tried to kill the Warlocks first but in some cases I found they just kept running. But if I killed their VWs, they would come to me. Odd, but helpful. They are level 28s and 29s, so my 32 wasn't having too tough a time. I had Firepower, an Intellect scroll and a +8 Stamina food buff. I used the Eye of Kilrogg to find them and watch their patrol patterns, then pull them one by one. The first pull brought me two, and in the close confined space of the first floor of the Tower, it's hard to see what's going on, like a subway at rush hour. Tab & DoT, Tab & DoT, Tab & DoT, then heal the VW and healing potion.

Narassin was easy, but probably only because I had killed his guards except for the last one. He attacked while I was finishing the last VW. I was prepared for a long battle but he was no tougher than any random 32.

After all that, getting out was no picnic because everthing had respawned and now they were angry. : ) I just ran out, using a healthstone in the process. The VWs followed me all the way down to the main road.

Maybe I got lucky but I think it's worth a try, not for the rewards, but for rep and maybe even the fun of it.

I just did this with an L34 druid. It was not very difficult.

To get into the tower, use a shadow protection potion when you fight the two caster-plus-pet teams, dropping the casters first. Then stealth up to just before the top level, avoiding the wandering guards. Pop another potion for insurance, then go over to the dude, being careful to not get destealthed by the other four duos at the top. Get up right behind him, rip to break stealth, go human form, then spam moonfire until he's dead.

I expected I would have to run back and rez to loot him, but guess what, at L34, the aggro range is so small that none of the other four sets of mobs at the top aggroed on me! So I looted him, restealthed, and jumped down a level at a time to get out.

Thought I might come back and try this with my slightly-twinked 29 Rogue. No luck after 6 tries. I basically ran into two problems:

1) Stealthing to the top of the tower is no problem. Getting behind Narassin is no problem. From then on, you're in trouble. Distract doesn't work on VWs or humanoids. Each time I was able to get Narassin (who is a 32) close to death, but the combination of 2 VWs and 2 warlocks spamming shadowbolts was more than my health, gear, buffs and a health potion could handle. I got frustratingly close but never close enough to kill him. Maybe with Engineering (bombs) instead of Alchemy?

2) The other approach was to pull and kill the Warlock/VW combos one by one. As long as I only had to fight one combo at a time, no problem. But as soon as the warlock (each kept moving away, as they always try to do unless you kill their VW first) aggroed another combo, that wasn't survivable, and sprinting down those stairs was a real challenge. I tried that 3 times and each time one warlock managed to aggro another.

Rezzing turns out not to be an issue. There is a chair on a landing (2nd floor?) that is perfect, as it is outside the warlocks' patrol pattern.

Having some kind of shadow resistance might help, or engineering, or all epic items (not too many available at that level...), or probably something I haven't thought of yet could do it as well but the bottom line is this: just wait until you are a high-enough level to do this easily.

After all, you're not doing it for the rewards; they're worthless. It's the fun of the challenge, right? Oh and of course that Darnassus rep. Good luck. :-)

Okay, so I'm a level 33 NE Hunter and the only reason I'm interested in this quest is to increase my rep. I had no trouble getting into the tower but once I made my way up a few flights of stairs, both my pet and I were ambushed by about 4 warlocks + their Voidwalkers. I died quickly and plan on returning with playing partner. Don't know if anyone else who wasn't a rogue had any trouble, but I'd definitely recommend taking at least one other player along ... especially if they can heal.

This one is tough. I am a 35 hunter and finally did it solo. It still was a little tough even at this level with my pet. Finally though I made it. Being that level was easy to pull with no aggro. One at a time and sent my pet on the warlock and I killed the minions made it a lot easier. Got to the top with the main Guy left and one set of minion and warlock. I still even died trying to get out but I was rushing. Good luck to all with this level it is tough ... but fun.

I just soloed this with a 29 hunter and 28 pet cat (turned to a 29 pet ... see below).

Followed the advise above (especially important is the first pull on the top floor).

I only finished this because my pet leveled up during the fight with the "boss" and a warlock and VW who pulled the "boss". The level up restored my pet to full health.

Did this way too easily as a Level 32 Rogue. Stealthed up to the top of the tower. Had mind numbing poison on my main dagger and deadly poison on my off hand dagger. Went right behind Arthrikus and hit with Ambush followed by Gouge. His health was already over 1/3 gone I'd say, so the rest was just a standard pummeling. Only agro'd one Warlock and Pet near him when he was about two hits shy of dying, so it was no problem handling the adds once I'd grabbed Artie's head.

This place is a pain in the ass for a hunter, its so confining that getting off ranged attacks is extremely difficult, always a too close or a not in line of sight message.

Add in all of the mobs that agro from 100 feet away and ughh...bring a friend.

I just solo'd this as a lvl 34 Druid... and it was pretty difficult at the end.

Number one tip: Take out the voidwalkers first, then go after the casters. You will die if you don't do this.

I killed all the warlocks/voidwalkers on the way up, and then when I approached the top, I killed them one by one as well. Getting rid of the first two warlocks was fairly easy, and the third was fairly dangerous, as I almost aggro'd Athrikus.
When I got to the fourth warlock on the top floor, I had defeated the voidwalker when I aggro'd Athrikus. The lock was still casting on me, but I just took the newbie way out and Moonfired her to death. Then I healed with Regrowth and proceeded to take Athrikus out with a combo of Starfire/Moonfire/Wrath and when I ran out of mana, I just attacked him with my dagger until he was dead.

I would say it was pretty difficult to solo, even at level 34, but it only took about 10 minutes, and I got 2500xp (green quest) and a +250 rep with Darnassus

For those of you who are annoyed with the running around of the warlocks, I can recommend using a fixating spell/skill while you deal with their minions. For rogues I can recommend Sap.

A dirt cheap trick, should you die, is to take advantage of the fact that WoW doesn't look at the altitude of your spirit when dead. Which means you can basically go all the way to the top of the tower & respawn. Each warlock/minion can be dealt with one by one, just be careful that they don't aggro the warlock on the spiral staircase.

I am a lvl 30 warrior. I tried this quest solo as a 29 and totally got my ass kicked. I was not even able to kill the first warlock. I thought after leveling up to a 30 and getting much more powerful sword I would be able to do this, but still the same thing. I usually try to hit the warlock and its minion hard with a charge, demoralizing shout, rend, shunder armor, and thunder clap. Still I keep getting killed by the first guy. I am not really sure if I should be doing something different or not.
Any advice?

I done this as a level 32 hunter after the patch for all the new pet abilities and made it up top and killed him no problem, just take out the casters first and let frost trap slow their pets.
When you get to the top you might end up having 2 casters and Athrikus on you so be careful, it happened to me and i still managed to take them all down.

I did this yesterday with a 34 Priest as a 32 Warlock. It took us a couple tries, but we finally made it to the top.

Our strategy was to take on the casters one at a time. I would banish the voidwalkers and then we could take out the caster no problem. The patrols were kind of tricky, but once we were at the top we could take out the helpers one at a time.

I found this pretty easy with my lvl 32 Hunter & lvl 31 pet, just be patient doing it. Take out the minion & casters first with your pet doing the tanking work, in that order... minion then caster. Be careful not to agro other minion & casters as you wrok your way up. Do this all the way up to the top lvl & you'll find it easy. With your pet taking all the agro you can work your way into the line of sight to use arrows.

Ok, i waited until i was lvl 37 shammy (might have been able to do it sooner, but i am conservative and don't like running back from graveyards) and was able to do it with help of my searing totem which would target the voidwalker while i took care of the warlock with flame tongue weapon and flame shock. Still, i had to heal myself a few times and mana up. A plus was, i didn't really pull aggro at this level, so i really only had to deal with one duo at a time.

Definetly hard as a hunter,level 30, but I managed to do it finally after 2 deaths. Rez'd both times at the top level, first time there was still too many of them and pulled to much agro, but managed to drop a couple. Second go around, I ran back as fast as possible, beat the spawn, and had time to revive my pet, then target the boss and the one warlock that helped him after that.

Just solo'd this as 33 Druid. First attempt I tried clearing out the mobs up top before fighting Narassin - ended up dead. Second time I stealthed all the way up and went behind Narassin - took him out fairly quickly and didnt aggro any of the mobs.

2 important keys:

1) Wait for the wandering ones - there's one on each level that goes back and forth between two levels.

2) At the top, pull one side then the other and pull them downstairs just in case they run. When you pull the one closest to Anthrikus you're gonna get him too, pull them way back or down the stairs or you'll get both locks and him - a suicide pull.

Completed as a 30 rogue. Died 3 times in total but could probably have done it without dying if I thought it through more. Anyway, I find sapping the warlocks, killing the pet then dealing with the warlock works well. An add usually means I have to vanish. I could probably have sapped the warlock on one side of Arithkus, which would have aggroed him over and killed him before vanishing.

He spawns back very fast however.

Actually some people do use these posts for ideas and help on how to complete the quest. Sometimes, the coords just aren't enough info. And I appreciate people posting what level they were when they completed the quest, so I can get an idea if I can do it at my level. For those posting complaining about other posters giving too much info, you're really causing more trouble than they are. Get over it and let people type what they want. Find the posts that help you and ignore the rest if you really don't like them.

soloed this as a 29 warlock, banish + succubus did the trick, either i banished the add and took down the caster 1st or the other way around, be careful about pulling and if you can pull 1 lvl lower of the top floor you can even fear the add there when u cleared it without having to worry bout adds.

LOCATION OF THIS MOB: Remember way back at the start of this mess, that tower in the far north of Darkshore with all the hottie chick locks. The quest where an elf by a boulder wanted us to kill 4 of the chicks for papers/plans? Right, THAT tower.

You have to take FP back to auberdine and hoof it into the North of Darkshore, COORDs: 56,25. Fight to the top of the tower and kill the dude. He will drop his head, that you take back to quest giver FTW.

and for all the posts below this : NEWS FLASH : WE DONT CARE that you soloed it at lvl 5. YES WE KNOW rogues and druids can stealth, the rest of us cant and actually have to fight our way there.

When you post here, you keep it short. You post the COORDS of what you need. You Ignore or make fun of the noobs who dont have coord add-ons. And you do NOT brag / post BS about how EZ it is to solo this at some insanely low lvl or that DUH as a rogue/druid you EZed it by stealthing.

Can you solo this at your level? CHECK THE COLOR OF THE QUEST IN YOUR QUEST LOG. It it shows as GREEN in your log, the answer is YES, you will solo it EZ. If it is yellow, the answer is YES, but it may be tough. If it is orange, the answer is Probably, but you may need some help or get a lvl or two. It it is RED - do not do it yet. Thats it, we dont need ppl with epenil issues posting what lvl they supposedly soloed it. All the ppl who posted below this : Pls DIAF

idk how easy this quest is for everyone else, but as a hunter is really hard solo. i'm lvl 30 and the warlocks and minions aren't that hard except that you can't ever aim at them properly. there usually isn't a clear line of sight because of all the levels and the tower is really small. it wouldn't be so hard, except for the confinement.

Very easy as a lvl 32 druid.

I just stealthed in, killed a couple of minions on the way up just for a laugh. At the top, I stayed in catform, took out the minion, and the spell caster at the top. They were pretty easy as a cat, and didn't aggro Arthikus. I had plently of time to heal up, and stealth over and take out Arthikus in just a few good strikes.

He runs around a bit though, but if you keep the pressure on him he doesn't get time to really cast much in the way of damage on you. He hardly even touched me at all.

Working this quest as a level 32 balance druid, I found that I could manage a pair at a time, one voidcaller and one minion, then I would be low on mana. I had stealthed up to the next to the top level in cat form and then began clearing since the top level groups looked like they weren't spread out enough to avoid all of them (and I didn't know if all would aggro if I went just for the target of the quest.) If I had it to do again, I'd give a try to just stealthin right up to him and seeing how that played out.

Once I had defeated a few pairs of mobs, the old pairs began spawning and aggroing while I was drinking for mana. I died 3 times before I was able to do turn in. Although the last death was just stupid on my part.

If I were allowed to get salty on Wowhead the string of blistering curses that I would type when describing this quest would make a drunken sailor blush. First off, the respawn rate of the warlocks in the tower is insane. You'd have to be able to do crazy amounts of damage to keep them all dead. So giving up on that, I decided to allow the lower pathers to respawn and just take on the stationary locks along with the one that paths from the upper floor to the floor below. Still couldn't do it at lvl 30 (Paladin). It is difficult if not impossible to fight the locks one at a time as they run around so much while casting that they inevitably cause at least one add and then that add causes adds, etc. I spent 30 minutes trying what I could think of and dying a few times before deciding to give up on this one, for now.

I shall return at some point, and vengeance will be mine!

I went back and read my comments from 2008, which suggested coming back at a higher level, such as 40. So I broke my own rule and tried again yesterday with my 31 Shaman but of course no luck, even with the help of a level 28 Horde Mage who happened to be there as well. OK, so we couldn't exactly communicate very effectively but both of us knew the quest. We could kill the Locks easily enough but as usual not all of them and not all the VWs and respawns before they killed us.

So I came back with my 65 Feral and went through the Tower like a buzzsaw. The Mage was still there (persistence is a virtue) so he managed to get the quest done. Killed a few more rapid respawns after he was done, switched to the Shaman and that was it. The final act took about 45 seconds.

Is this cheating? I was going for Darn rep on my Shaman so this chain was important in that grind. Otherwise I would have skipped it. Time is about the only thing you can't buy more of.

For Hardcore players. Don't do this solo. I did manage it as a 30 hunter, but it was sketchy as hell and I almost died 3-4 times. The respawns are FAST and the warlocks aggro from everywhere. Go with at least 2 people and if possible utilize stairs and levels etc to block LOS

Unless you got at least one more helping at a 33+ level, forget it. it is tough, too many warlocks and voidwalkers around the boss.

Worst part is the subpar reward.

I did it with my mage helping out a pally. It was rough.

I was greatly disappointed with the reward. Not worth it!

ps. I will not attempt to solo it on hardcore.

Completed this quest solo on my rogue 32 in hardcore.
At first I was a bit scared due to all the comment here. So I decided to only go to the highest level first and see by myself before making a decision whether to try or abandon the quest.
On the highest level though I managed to pull the 3 other duo (voidwalker + caster) one by one. Ensure you go back to the lower level when you pull them. You can also see if you aggro more than 1 and be ready to either run of vanish for rogue.
Be careful that the caster will run out of melee to start casting, so they may end up pulling more.

lvl 32 Fury warrior, Dualwielding a 12 dps greensword and 10 dps green dagger.
Shadow resist potion, Elixir of defense, Strong troll's blood potion, Well Fed buff
Greater healing potions and heavy silk on hand.

Essentially, with shadow pots, its pretty easy until you reach the top. Careful movement and using a bow to solo pull down a level will alllow you to solo the boss after systematically removing everything else with arrow pull -> run down stairs, hamstring/rend, kill as normal.

For the boss I popped charge/retaliate and then hearthed out to avoid respawns.

not too bad. If you pull two and they burn your shadow pot, you could die. Pop a shadow pot before starting to clear out the top floor because popping a shadow pot puts your hp pot on cd and popping an ht pot puts shadow pot on 2m cd. Risky stuff.
