Not final information by any means but, considering there was nothing here at all I figure what I learned on my last few runs might be useful to someone. This is as of beta build 8885.

Against roughly 21k armor his melee swings were hitting for about 4600 average, and he swings pretty fast. His special abilities as far as I saw:

1) Apparently has a disease which causes a healing debuff, although I was too busy to check debuff tooltips so I can't confirm this exactly, additionally we had a shaman with a disease cleansing totem out.

2) Casts "Bane", which is a melee-range reactive AOE centered around him. Appeared to tick for about 1500 shadow damage, and pulses every time he is struck in combat while Bane is active (which is around 10 seconds). While Bane is active he will still run around and attack players as usual, but as long as he is not attacked during this time Bane should do minimal damage. Anti-Magic Shell works to absorb damage if for some reason your group mates (or a dumb-AI pet like a Ghoul) won't stop attacking him.

3) Has a melee attack called something like Dark Strike (not too sure on this) which apparently halves your HP if hit. This can be dodged/parried/etc.

4) At certain intervals he will cause your party to cower in fear and run up to one of his boats to gain a special ability. The fear can be broken with trinkets, tremor totem, etc. allowing you to attack him while he's doing his boat ritual. As for the special ability he gains, I think it depends on which boat he visits which itself appears random. One time he summoned a couple of waves of weak non-elite ghosts, another causes pulsing white orbs to be summoned which should be avoided as they will repeatedly damage any player who stands near them.

His name is most likely based off Ymir. In Norse mythology, Ymir was the founder of the race of frost giants, and his corpse was used to build the world.

Okay, so since there doesn't seem to be much strat wise on this guy, here's what we had to deal with in Heroic mode:

He casts Bane, which is a short buff that will damage anyone who hits him while it's up, so you just want to leave him alone during that.

Also, every 20% he will stun your party and run to a boat.

The boat on the back right (if you're looking at his throne) makes him cast an aoe that hits your whole group for about 5k. You can't stop it, so you're just going to have to heal through it.

The boat that's on the front right of his throne didn't really seem to do anything, but we probably burned him too fast through it.

The boat on the front left of his throne will let him summon an orb that will spam tons of shadow damage in AoE around it. The orb is fairly slow and has a small range, so you just need to kite him away from it and burn him down.

The boat on the back left lets him summon 4 little minions, they go away when he phase changes and don't have much health anyway, so you can ignore them if you want.

The real challenge is making sure you get group heals for the 5k spam and making sure you stay far away from the AoE spamming orb.

Every time he goes to a new boat, he stuns everyone. PvP trinket to leave the stun early. This means your DPS get to kill it faster (especially during heroism etc). This is also useful for healers after the AoE phase.

Strat for Ymiron (Heroic):

He'll start off by hitting 4-5k on plate so the healer does have to watch out. He will also put up Bane which reflects 1400-1500 damage per attack to everyone within 10-15 yards. Your melee has to watch out for this. The best option imho is to have an enh sham because it's purgable and dispellable. If there is no dispel option, you'll just have to have your dps rein themselves in until it wears off.

After each 20% he'll run to a boat, gain a new ability and lose the last boat ability (he always hits for 4-5k and occasionally buffs himself with Bane). He'll also stun the whole group into a /cower, which can make for funny screenshots.

Abilities starting from the Back Left Boat going Clockwise if you're standing facing the throne.

- (Back Left) Allows King Ymiron to summon a flood of adds. On normal it's around 4, but on heroic it can be upwards of 10. Each hit from the adds stacks a 2% decrease in attributes debuff and they attack fairly quickly. I've seen this stack up to 20. My suggestion here is for the healer and dps to stack together (presumably right behind Ymiron) and for the dps to aoe them down (they're weak). You can also run to the tank but you run the risk of the tank's max health dropping below 20k since they'll instinctively thunderclap/lay down consec/swipe/DnD.

- (Front Left) Allows the summoning of a large crackling orb. Kite Ymiron away from it and you'll be fine, this is probably the easiest phase. If you don't it's a 5k aoe tick around it every 2-3 seconds.

- (Front Right) Gives Ymiron a stacking +damage modifier of +1000 damage (applied on the tank). This will stack up to 6 times as far as I've seen, meaning each of Ymiron's hits will do +6000 damage on top of however much it was before. I didn't have much trouble with this one where I thought I'd struggle, maybe the warr hit shield wall without saying anything. Ran this again with a prot pally specifically requesting him not to use pally shield wall, on paper it seems like a devastating ability but he didn't hit all that hard /shrug. If you have a crittable tank it may be an issue though.

- (Back Right) And lastly, this one houses the deadliest ability. A constant 4.5k aoe (resistable) every 4 seconds or so. Your healer is going to have some problems with this part regardless of class so blow all your cds and try to get through it as quickly as possible. Edit: I've had runs where this comes quick and heavy and runs where it isn't quite so bad, I'm not sure if it's just a really random cd. I believe it can also be outrangeable at somewhere around 30 yards, hard to tell because I run regularly with entirely melee groups. Edit: I don't think it's outrangeable, maybe someone can confirm either way.

This fight can be painful depending on your group make-up, namely if the healer is not very well geared and/or is a holy pally not quite used to using beacon (he/she will need it for this fight most likely for aoes) and too many melee dps get hit before the tank can kite Ymiron away from the orb.

The caveat to this boss is his hp is rather low. He has abilities on par with old T6 bosses but if your group's dps is high you can push him through phases fairly quickly before they even get to work.

It doesn't seem to be percent based so much as time based. In normal, Ymiron went down in 2:23 and never got to use his final boat.

Several times on heroic Ymiron's Bane has been bugged. He doesn't show a cast bar or a buff icon, but then BOOM! The melee and tank explode.

Not the only heroic boss with glitches. Hopefully this is cleared up soon.

Bane can be reflected.
Thats what I had last time:

04:26:23, King Ymiron's Bane hits King Ymiron for 6169 Shadow.
04:26:24, King Ymiron's Bane hits King Ymiron for 5708 Shadow.
04:26:24, King Ymiron's Spirit Burst hits King Ymiron for 4839 Shadow.
04:26:24, King Ymiron's Bane hits King Ymiron for 5737 Shadow.
04:26:26, King Ymiron's Bane hits King Ymiron for 6186 Shadow.
04:26:27, King Ymiron's Bane hits King Ymiron for 5670 Shadow.

Last reflect didnt show in combat log since King was dead.

I guess it's reflected from all party members with Improved Spell Reflection. Pretty nice damage in 4 sec. I love being a warrior in such moments :)

for all you hunters out there not sure if it'll work in heroic but tranquilising shot gets rid of bane when he casts it so you can use that and then nuke him agian only in normal mode though haven't tried in heroic

Okey, I found a good, but tricky, way to tank this one as a Death knight today.
This will really help out a weak healer, or the tank if poorly geared, and is not hard at all once you get the hang of it.
What you do is build up some threat (best to have something other then the game one to keep track of the threat) and then wait for a bane. Once he start to cast bane, run to the opposite side of one of the boats and run back and forth so he is directly across from you at all times.
By doing this, he will not know which way to run and keep going back and forth together with you. The trick now is to keep having a rotation of frost strike going, with a few sec in between. This is to prevent him from evading and reset. Keep hitting him with frost and keep track of your threat, if it gets low, just swing at him a few times and go back to a boat.
Not sure if other tanks can do this, it's all about having a ranged attack to avoid evade reset.

If you want to do simply have a lot of damage. Total party dps would have to be at 5663. Roughly that is 5663/3 ~= 1888 dps per person (assuming you got 3 dps, 1 healer and 1 tank). Considering tanks now do nice damage you could perhaps push it as much as 5663/4 ~= 1500 dps per person. Anyway simply nuke full out, if you got enough dps he won't get time to cast Bane at all!

If you lack damage, just do it slowly and avoid triggering him -it's your choice.

(Don't know why people down-rated this, I mean we did it just like this -full out nuke. And he never casted Bane...)

I'm counting only 4 epic loot drops on heroic with 20% drop chance each. Is there a chance for no epic loot on heroic, do people not bother looting epics, is there a drop missing or is there a chance to get zero epics?

King Ymiron is the king of the vrykul in Northrend and lies sleeping within Gjalerbron. His people, the Dragonflayer clan, are still fanatically loyal to him.
Having recently proven himself to the Lich King, he was converted to the undead and is the last boss of Utgarde Pinnacle.

Abilities
-----------

Bane: Surrounds King Ymiron with an aura that deals 1414-1586 (Heroic: 5k to 6k+) shadow damage to nearby enemies on every attack.

Dark Slash: Slashes current aggro target with darkness, dealing damage equal to 50% of targets total health.

Fetid Rot: Afflicts the target with a disease dealing 1414-1586 (Heroic: 2828 to 3172) damage every 3 seconds for 9 seconds and decreasing healing received by 25%.
Dispellable.

Screams of the Dead: Delivers a bone chilling scream stunning all party members for 8 seconds.

Spirit Burst: AoE. Deals 2357 to 2643 (Heroic: 4k to 5k+) damage to all targets. Only occurs when Ranulf's blessing is active.

Spirit Strike: Deals 925 to 1075 (Heroic: 4625 to 5375) damage to current target and increases physical damage done by 250 (Heroic: 1000). It is stackable, lasts 10 seconds, and only occurs when Haldor's blessing is active.

Tactics
---------

This fight requires little strategy but is still quite difficult, particularly in heroic.
The primary aspect of this fight is that he hits the tank VERY hard. His normal hits are for ~3k-5k and Dark Slash hits the tank for 50% of their health.
Occasionally, King Ymiron will cast Bane which causes shadow damage when he is attacked. All DPS need to stop attacking when Bane is up. It needs to be dispelled or spell stolen immediately so dps can resume.
He will also occasionally cast Fetid Rot on a random party member, which needs to be removed as quickly as possible.
Every 33% HP on normal, and every 20% on heroic, King Ymiron will cast Screams of the Dead, which stuns the entire party for 8 seconds(mages can blink out of this stun). He will then randomly run to one of the 4 longboats in the room and channel a spell from a Vrykul ancestor there. This will give him an additional ability for the next 33 or 20% of his life. After reaching the next 33/20% mark, the previous longboat will burn and that ability will end. Thus, Ymiron will call on two ancestors' blessings during his normal battle, and all four during his heroic battle.
With respect to Ymiron's throne, these boats do:
Near Left Boat (Haldor) - Gives the target the debuff Spirit Strike that increases damage taken. Will stack over time!
Near Right Boat (Bjorn) - Allows him to summon Spirit Fount, an orb that does AoE shadow damage and moves around the room slowly. Ymiron needs to be kited away from the Fount and party members need to stay away from it.
Far Left Boat (Ranulf) - Give him the ability to cast spirit burst, an AoE shadow nova for ~2k (Heroic: ~4-5k)
Far Right Boat (Tor) - Allows King Ymiron to summon 4 Avenging Spirit adds that can be AoE'd down.

Just my thought, the name "vrykul" may be a reference to "very cool"
Back to the boss, my first impression was that he hits very hard. When he reaches a boat he gets new spells, and casts a spell that stuns the whole party. He is the king of all vrykul and his wife, queen Angerboda is killable (she is found at Winter's Terrace at Gjalerbron, northern Howling fjord)

For you DKs out there: Do not ever use Army of the Dead on this fight. If they are up during Bane, your party will instantly take over 25k damage (5 ghouls * 5k damage).

This boss is cake if you have some decent heals.

Also, his stun can be trinked/abilitied out of (human racial/PvP trinkets/etc.) if you want to get a couple casts in.

King Ymiron was voiced by Michael McConnohie who also voiced Epoch Hunter, Aeonus, Uther, the original Kel'Thuzad, Commander Kolurg, and the WotLK version of The Lich King.

He hits pretty hard but if u have a good healer and strong dps you should be fine. My group for regular UP was 2 Dks and 3 paladens and we had no problem with any of the bosses so as long as u have dps that can kill him quickly and a healer that can easly keep you alive you will be fine. By the way we had a level 80 for all except a 77 dps pally.

How can you tell when Bane is up, other than the cast bar? Does he change color, do some obvious cast animation? I had a hard time keeping track of the the first time I fought him and I'm still not sure what to look for.

The boats of the spirits that Ymiron goes to at each 25% interval can be used kite King Ymiron. He will walk around them if he's targeting someone around the boat and will not go through or on top of them. Earlier in H UP, when our tank died at 35%, I kited the boss around the boats until he was at 25%. Took enough time for my Mirror Image to come back up and after the stun wore off we burst him heavily.

Mages can blink out of the AoE stun he casts.

PvP trinkets/bubble/iceblock also work to get out of the stun allowing for more DPS time.

Since 3.3.3, he appears to emote occasionally, during his soul transfer or whatever the hell that is.

Kind of shocking, since previous to this most groups would only hear his aggro and death quote. And maybe some grunts if he fell through the floor.

The fight against King Ymiron usually is easy if executed properly. Removing the Bane buff from Ymiron helps even out the damage and all other DoTs should be dispelled.

The healer needs to be aware of the tank's health as Ymiron uses an ability that reduces the target's current health to half.

After losing every 20% of his health, King Ymiron stuns all party members and honors one of the ancestors of each longboat in the room. He receives a new ability that is used until the next 20% are down.
