Yes, this little dude is indeed a tribute to the famous Link from The Legend of Zelda series. Upon completing his quests, you can receive a nice main-hand sword, Linken's Sword of Mastery, or a nice off-hand item, Spirit of Aquementas, along with one of the few ranged weapon choices for shaman, paladins, and druids, Linken's Boomerang, which seems to be what most people do the quest for in the first place.

A quite obvious relation to Link from the Legend of Zelda series, and the items a compass ( the ones in dungeons ) a photo a picture of him and Zelda if im not mistaken, and a key which is used in every single dungeon. hes also living in a tree just like in the kokiri forest, the 3 items you can get at the end, Linkens sword of mastery= The master Sword, the spirit of aquementas= the water stone from Ocarina of time, and his boomerang which we all know of. Plus hes wearing a green tunic with a hoodie.

Ah, ya gotta love Blizzard's references. This is one of my favorites, Linken=the famous Link. His quest rewards are quite worth it ~_^

Edit: And vrsiontopnto, he is not an elf because this is probably supposed to be when he was a kid, back in the great days of The Ocarina of Time

Before you get the quests if you talk to him he also says

"I'm not sure how i got here...

I remember traveling...a raft..."

Which is an obscure reference to either Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages where Link builds a raft and gets caught in a storm and ends up on an island, or Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening where links wakes up on an island after getting caught in another storm on another raft

I'm a level 53, and it says he doesn't have any available quests. When i talk to him, he just says "im not sure how i got here...i remember traveling...a raft..." No quests or anything. HALP.

You have to find his raft somewhere in Un'goro hen you start the chain, sorry I don't remember where the raft is, I do remember it's near raptors though

I say he should be a Human at least.
High Elf would be better, though (Link is a Hylian, and Hylians are pretty much just Humans with elf-ears).

I think the gnome size is perfect for Linken it sure looks like Link, which is quite fun. Ive played wow since launch and never thought much about it until last night(lol). My thought while talking to him, "hey wait a minute that shield+green hood", not sure why i never paid any attention to it earlier.

Marshal's Refuge has two Legend of Zelda references - this, and Dadonga (sp?). Dodongo was the boss of the second dungeon in the classic NES Legend of Zelda game. An NPC nearby this one says "Dadonga dislikes smoke". The same was said by a sage character about Dodongo in the Zelda game.

This character has two green items from quests that you can obtain, Linken's Sword of Mastery (a reference to the Master Sword) and Linken's Boomerang (every game has a boomerang...yesss)

Dodongo also appeared as King Dodongo in the N64 classic 'Ocarina of Time'. He also could only be defeated by throwing 'Bomb Flowers' in his mouth. The most fun fight in the game, besides Twinrova and Ganon (Gandondorf's true form).

Still, i wish Linken was PVP so i could wipe that creepy smile off his face XD

--Also, Ganondorf was never human nor Garudo. He is and always has been a demon, and his 'Hume' guise is only used to corrupt others to his liking, much as he convinced the Hylian king that Zelda's destiny was to die by his hand. Of course, he killed him after he got the approval LOL. Good thing Impa exists right?

Doe's anyone know what exact equipment Linken is wearing? I must obtain his tunic! and pants (i guess, i may get some white or tan ones), his Shield! and his boots! and his hood! If anyone could tell me his equipment you would make this warrior of Hyrule very happy! :D

The hood seems to be Mistyreed, Feralfen, or a Conjurer's Hood. What do you think? I'm thinkin it's either Mistyreed or Conjurer's... Link isn't a "Conjurer" so I might go with Mistyreed, but the color is so close... it's hard to say. I'll update as I find out more....

The line of quests that begins with finding the wrecked raft is entirely possible at the minimum level of 47, up until you have to slay an Ironwood treant in Felwood. It can be a pain to reach Winterspring, but I did so at 46 with Goblin Rocket Boots without being killed. It just involves a lot of travel. But at about 6000 experience a pop, these quests have gotten me 3/4 of the way to 48. J.D. Collie's crystal quests and a little killing have gotten me the rest.

In Marshals Refuge there's a guy named Larion...short stubby man, with black moustache, wearing blue-and-red jumpsuit, speaking about pipes and killing those bloodpetals. Well, he ofcourse is Mario! And the brother he's talking about, is ofcourse Luigi :D

I believe you have to find a wrecked swamp-boat thingy first. I found it when I first walked into Un'Goro Crater, when you come in from Tanaris and you're off the path into the Crater go west, it's somewhere in those pools (watch the ravasaurs though :) )

Here is a list of all the homages to the orgional Legend of Zelda that I recognized: (To my knowledge this is a full list)

(We'll start with the obvious stuff)

1. Linken -> Link
2. Linken's Boomerang -> Link's Boomerang
3. Linken's Sword of Mastery -> Blizzard's take on Link's Master Sword (Notice MASTERy)
4. It's dangerous to go alone -> In the beginning of the game, when you get the wooden sword, the man guarding it says "It's dangerous to go alone! Take this!"
5. It's a secret to everybody -> Whenever you find a secret 100 ruby cave, the man guarding it will say "It's a secret to everybody!"

these quests can be a bit hard but thats only bcuz of all the traveling that it requires. but if u really stick to it u can do this quickly. im lvl 47 hunter and im about to kill blazerunner and complete the quest but only bcuz i got too tired to finish last night lol, so u start it at lvl 47 and depending on ur xp u can finish in that same lvl

Fluked into the raft as a lvl 48. I believe it is located in the swamp area. Follow the water ways within,, you should be able to find it. It is partially submeged, 1/2 on shore, 1/2 in water. Upon inspecting the raft. Go to the center of creek, and dive under. U will find a backpack. Th
is is what starts the quest. Follow the directions and you'll be fine. At one point, you will drop the sword off in winterspring. The mod is located just as you come riding into winterspring. Not far in. Remember to pick the sword up before going back to tanaris.
The final mod is a lvl 55 elite. You need to equip the rod you were given, and activate it whenever it is charged for another shot. At lvl 49 now, i gainfully earned the help of a lvl 60 tauren hunter ,, in return 5 gold. He said sure came up, and folks, The boomerang is a novelty, but the sword is great. (compared to what i had, lvl 42 dagger) (linkens is at least lvl 53). Change talents around, work around sword. ya, i'm glad i did it. Since i don't have a big guild and don't run instances. Anybody have an opinion for offhand?. I'm 51 now. Think i'll buy julies dagger for offhand,, opinions?

Yea hes Link if you talk to him alot he says different things some relating to Zelda games plus when you get his bag you get a map, compass and Lion Headed Key those are the map, compass and Big Key you need in dungions in Zelda games also when you throw his sword into the pool and it comes out stronger thats taked from the Zelda game A Link to the Past and the Golden Flame that Blazerunner has is a piece of the Triforce if you read what Linken says and the pic is a triangle too and then theres the obvious name and the two weapons you get that are from the Zelda games there is most likely more similarities but you get the point.

Its wierd how they put Link in WoW along with some of his weapons. Also you can get his clothes sometimes in the Auction House if people put it on like Green clothes and stuff... BUT the hell with the clothes most people want the weapons untill they go to 70 or something.

This may or may not be one...He is in Un'Goro Crater. Toss a couple letters around, you get Goron Crater (u?). The Goron's definately lived in desolate places. And I mean...look at the friggen map. It looks perfect to be a home for the Goron's.

I cannot believe that no one commented on Miblon in the Feralas part of the quest... you have to bait him to pass him,a reference to the first of links quest legend of zelda for NES where you had to give the meat to a moblin to pass

No, no, no Elves would make bad Linkens have you seen how tall they are? Gnomes are like little children who will never grow up because they live in a crazy little forest where a kid can be a kid forever and ever and all time. Therefore gnomes make good young links!

He should have been a night elf. I know he was before the expansion pack, but he would be best as a blood elf. He's missing the ears. BTW link has been left handed in every 3-D Zelda game made. Mr. Miyamoto probably means for him to left handed =P

Linken is at the coordinates 44,8.

When entering Morgan's Vigil from the south, look for a hollowed tree stump on the right side of the path (it's quite large, and hard to miss). Linken is standing in front of that.

"It's a secret to everybody" is what the woman in the secret cave tells you in Zelda when you find a secret heart container (gives you HP). Linken is obviously a huge reference to the original Zelda hero 'Link' in the NES version (Legend of Zelda 1).

So funny, I laughed when I saw the title of the first quest. Developers must be fans ... makes sense, Zelda was the most popular RPG in those 8-bit days. Although the style is a bit different than WoW ...
