First downed by Nihilum on April 13th 07, their DoTs killed him in mid-air so they were unable to get the loot, and the last thing they said was that they were waiting on GM, unknown as of yet what the loot is.
On another note: this boss is immune to fire, some mages in Nihilum and DnT have been speccing 61/0/0 for the fight.

In stage 2 we had the adds off-tanked and all dps focused on Al'ar himself. It's a race against time and this seemed to work better than dps'ing down the adds, since Al'ar would live too long and spawn adds indefinately. Our loot was:
Claw of the Phoenix
Offhand; Fist
98-183 Damage; Speed 1.5
(93,7 dps)
+20 Agility
+28 Stamina
Req. Level 70
Equip: Increases Attack Power by 38.

ok, just tried this guy, after we found out that the trash in front of void reaver sucks ass.
the fight starts out real easy.
tanks on each platform, dps downstaird, raanged dps, dps him down.
after 30 seconds, he'll move to the next platform, where the enxt tank should be ready to pick him up, or else he;ll cast a flame buffet, wich hits everyone in the raid for 2k-ish it's a 1-sec cast, and he really spams it. whenever he moves to the oter platform, he spawns an add, wich should be taken down, and explodes on death.
every now and then, hell move to the middle and totally aoe-nuke the top ledge, to tanks should jump down. when he' done with that, make sure to have a tank ready on the ramp to get to him, because he'll start flame buffetting again.
that's as far as we got him on that try.
seemed pretty straightforward.

How my guild is doing the Al'ar fight.
Phase 1: We used 5 tanks. one on each platform of the room, and one on the floor with the melee dps for adds.
Platform 1 is just up the ramp to the left when u enter Al'ar's room. Second are at the hallway to Void reaver. Third is at the hallway to Solarian. Fourth is just up the ramp to the right.
Melee dps should be stationed with the tank on the floor as they will take care of the adds that spawns every time Al'ar switches platform.
The caster dps and healers will be stationed so they can heal the tanks and dps the boss. As there is no way for casters to aggro in phase one they should go full dps in phase one.
How to take care of the adds in phase 1:
Each time Alar switches platform he will spawn a mini phoenix that a hunter or mage should pull for safety so it runs down the nearest ramp so a tank can take it.
when the add dies he will do an aoe dmg to all near him wich a huge knockback. therefor should the tank be stationed with his back against the wall and a rogue with cloak of shadow should stunlock him and kill it.
Boss fight phase1:
For tanks its more or less tank and spank. It's very important that you stay right on the edge of your platform so you are able to be healed. Time to time al'ar will fly up into the air in the middle of the room and do quill. when this happens all tanks on the platforms must run down ASAP. or they will be one shotted. When the quill is over he will either land on platform 1 or 4. the tanks of those platforms must be verry fast to get in melee range of the boss or he will wipe the raid because of the flame buffet. Intercept is your friend here.
After a while the boss will go to 0% and die... or not. He will respawn in the middle and phase 2 starts.
Phase 2:
First of all he will spawn in the middle of the room with a huge knockback so wait until he spawns. intercept in and taunt him. Because all threat the dps builded in phase1 will stay for some reason. so locks and mages should kill theirs threat with soul shatter/invisible.
Placing: We used 3 tanks on the boss and two for the adds. the healers and ranged dps should be stationed a little spread out in the room. but not too much. This time melee dps goes on the boss and ranged dps kills the adds.
The boss will now do an ability that reduces the tanks armor by 80% I think it's called melt armor. when this happen one other tank must taunt the boss fast, or the tank will die.
The boss will also do Meteor, he flies up into the air and and target one player, spawns into a meteor and lands on the targeted player. This abilitiy do some aoe dmg around the targeted player and the boss will spawn where that player is. once again tanks must be fast to get in melee range or the flame buffet will kill the raid.
Allso two small phoenix birds will spawns when he do meteor. the two free tanks should take one each and handle them just like the adds in phase1. Every time you kill those adds the boss will loose 3% of his hp.
Time to time flame patches will spawn around the room. Move away from those asap or you will die.
Phase1:
Tanks must stay in melee range with the boss all the time and in LoS for healers.
Jump down to the floor when boss do fire quill, and get up to original positions as soon its over. make sure you stay on the floor and not even a little on the ramp.
Melee dps on adds and caster dps on boss. stunlock the adds the last % and use cloak of shadow so u dont get the knockback.
Phase2:
Once again tanks stay in melee range all the time with the boss. remember to taunt when a tank has the debuff.
Meteor will spawn two adds, be fast to pick them up. Caster dps focus on the adds and melee dps on boss all time during phase2.
Stay away from the flame patches.
Keep everything under control and you will soon kill al'ar. its a fun fight.

Stunlocking the adds near their death: Does that prevent them from doing the Ember Blast? If not, does people ever use ranged dps on adds in phase 2 as then the only one would be the tank getting hit?
评论来自
77262
No it doesnt prevent. but it will get your melee dps enough time to run out.
And you dont want ranged dps on adds in phase1 as they can do full nuke on boss as they cant get the aggro in that phase.
评论来自
77262
thats indeed true. our melee dps usually runs out when the add are at 25% HP, cause they going down verry fast. And make sure the tank has his back against a wall unless you want him to fly without wings (fly verry far) :)
Allso when the boss do his quill it seems you can stay on the edge of the lower part of the ramps without getting hit by his bombardment. This to save some time on the distance the tanks has to run in for intercepting.

I'm not sure, but I think its nearly impossible to not even get one flame buffet. Maybe if u take a speed pot.

If you have your ember tanks wedge themselves into the little crack RIGHT next to the door frame of the room, they cannot be knocked back or up into the air by the ember explosion, and are safe from quills.
This allows a Fury/Mortal strike warrior, or other tank without a stun to safely tank the embers without flying across the room every time you kill one.
As a word of warning, if Alar casts meteor on a tank in this crack during phase two, he will bug out and reset. To avoid this, step out of the crack a yard or two whenever he goes up to cast meteor.

Being a feral druid, i just tank and save all the adds from phase 1 for phase 2... We dps them down to like 15%, and AOE them all at the begining of phase 2, which takes Al'ar down to somewhere between 79/76% hp like in 5 secs lol.
Add tank focus on getting one of the adds to something like 5/6% before aoe. When aoe comes, it'll die first, addTank get knockbacked to a ramp (yes, you should be facing a ramp). Other adds die on their way.
This add tank should have a SS in case things go wrong. Even then, its a cakewalk.
We also just use 2 prot wars in phase 1 on the upper platforms. After a Quill, depending on their position, they can intervene someone near a ramp to get there asap. Hardly ever we get more then 1 Flame Buffet.
For phase 2 adds i tank the adds alongside a dps warrior in tank gear. After phase 1 adds die aoe'd, all dps hits Al'ar, and addTank 1 grabs the first two adds. Everyone still on Al'ar.
When meteor strikes again, addTank1 should have enough agg that folks can blow the adds up, while addTank2 grabs the next 2 adds, and so forth. If the first one are killed fast (as they should), you can still dps Al'ar before the next Meteor (and when it comes, switch to addTank2 adds, while addTank1 grabs these last Meteor adds). Rinse and repeat, avoid flame patches, work on the MT's taunt rotations, and its a cakewalk.

My guild just got a rather strange glitch during al'ar, and hopefully other people can avoid what happened to us.
We're not entirely sure what happened, but after al'ar was pulled, he never attacked the tank, along with that, he never buffeted, never moved, and never fought back at all, he just sat there and took all the damage we threw at him. when he hit 1%, he just sat there soaking damage and wouldn't move beyond 1%.
We beleive it was caused by the tank pulling with the decapitator, but we're still not sure why it happened.
The only thing I can say when this happens is just for everyone to run out of the instance, since al'ar will never reset, and he won't wipe the raid either. (We spent 15 minutes on him, first half to see if he would die, 2nd half seeing if enough damage would push him past 1%
Edit: please be advised, only run out if he started doing this at the beginning right after the pull, if he stays at the first platform after going normally for a bit, he can still be killed.

Most guilds get through Phase 1 of this fight pretty quickly. The key to the fight is being able to control the adds in Phase 2. You need to position them, build aggro on them, and kill them in short order. Using a technique of saving the adds from Phase 1 and then AOE'ing them in Phase 2 also helps a lot with beating the enrage timer.

I was on my holy priest when one of our tanks lagged out during a quills transition, the raid was getting buffetted, the nearest tank was about 6 seconds away and the next buffet would have killed half the raid.
In desperation I popped shadowfiend on the boss, and the shadowfiend was able to tank the boss and stop the buffets for about 4 or 5 seconds..enough time for the tank to charge in and grab it.

In my experience, this fight is dramatically easier if you do not try to kill any adds in phase 2. The main ways raid members are going to get killed is if they pull aggro on adds or are in range of an add death explosion. Very likely, they will both pull aggro on adds and drag them into a group of other raid members for the death explosion. The only scenario when aggro isn't a problem like this is when DPS is on Al'ar most of the time. So, just leave DPS on Al'ar. A paladin in mixed t4/5 can tank more than a dozen adds with two healers assigned. The only thing the adds do that's dangerous to a tank is the death explosion, so just don't cause any explosions.

==Paladin Add Tanking==
What you'll need:
1x Well-geared Paladin Tank. Towards the end of Phase 2 he'll be swamped with adds and need to survive a lot of sudden hits.
1x Paladin healer at least. Ask him to use Righteous Fury.
1x Other healer, preferebly another Paladin.
Towards the end of phase 2 (if your DPS isn't to high), your Paladin healer is going to need help from one more healer, any class can do it but I prefer a druid.
==Phase 1==
Stand by the ramp leading up to Platform 1. When the add comes down, simply grab him with a judgement of Righteousness and drag him in under the Crack in the ramp. Kill off the add. Do NOT heal the Paladin tank just yet. Instead, wait for the next add to appear. Now, have the paladin healer with Righteous Fury up start spam healing the tank. The tank taunts the add off the healer and you repeat. If the tank, for any reason, need to get to the other side quickly, simply have him turn around so that the bird is in the crack and his back is facing platform 4. Kill the add and off he goes! Nice way to pick up adds from the other side, should that be needed.
Make sure the only healer on the tank is the Paladin with Righteous Fury - unless he's in all greens he'll be able to keep you up. The tank might face mana problems - just drink some pots and hope for phase 1 to go fast.
==Phase 2==
First, leave all the adds alone. Reposition the Tank as you please. Find a fairly open spot, and have the dedicated paladin healer fairly close to the tank. If there's an add up still, kill it with the Tank soaking the explosion. Don't heal him yet, though.
Once Al'ar does meteor and the adds come, the Paladin Healer will spam heal the Paladin tank to pick up aggro. The Tank taunts the birds of the healer and starts tanking them. A single healer can keep the tank up no problem for a few adds, but once he starts having issues, have him call out for another healer that steps in. If Phase 2 drags on for a long time, call for yet another healer - a Druid is a good idea as he can HoT up not only the Paladin tank but the Al'ar tanks aswell.
Once the boss dies, the adds despawn and you can loot him!

Note that the health of a little bird is about 69,000. Killing one does about 72,000 damage to the big bird.
End result: You don't gain much by saving a stack of birds from Phase 1 and blowing them up in Phase 2, unless you're using AoE or the birds are already heavily damaged in Phase 1.
Given the amount of trouble that a loose flock of birds can cause, and the amount of healing required for the bird tank, it's debatable whether saving a bunch of them is worthwhile.
If you decide to do it, the single-target damage-dealers will probably be more effective staying on the boss and away from the explosions.
Also, assuming that the raid keeps away from the explosions, there's no reason to switch to the boss while any little birds are up. As far as damage-dealing goes, you might as well stay on the little birds. You do just as much damage for the raid that way, and you remove the adds to stop them from causing trouble.

"At the end of its life-cycle the phoenix builds itself a nest of cinnamon twigs that it then ignites; both nest and bird burn fiercely and are reduced to ashes, from which a new, young phoenix arises."
It would be logical for Al'ar to drop his/her own ashes, but Blizzard decided it would make the mount more special if one of the most powerful people in the current level 70 game were to drop this beautiful mount.

Actually, it's a direct reference to Warcraft 3, in which Blood Mages (Kael'thas being one of them) summoned a Phoenix as their ultimate skill. Since Kael'thas summoned Al'ar, he'd be the one with Al'ar's ashes in order to re-summon him.

Al'ar is the first boss in The Eye of Tempest Keep that you'll encounter. He's located straight ahead when you've entered the instance. Since he flies around overhead in the large circular room he's in, he won't aggro until someone has shot him with a ranged weapon / spell.
He has two phases; however, unlike most boss encounters, these two phases both start at 100%. Being a pheonix, he has a "Rebirth" ability once his life reaches 0% for the first time, and he'll reappear in the middle of the room with full hp again, commencing phase 2.
The first phase is the easier phase. It basically involves 3 tanks taking turns tanking him in 30 second intervals, for he moves around the upper level of the room in a clockwise fashion (if you pulled him from the left ramp). There are four stations total that he'll move to around the upper level. The first station is the "bulge" at the top of the left ramp, the second being the circular platform jutting out in front of the left hand hallway leading to Void Reaver, the third being the second circular platform, and the last being the "bulge" at the top of the right ramp.
His abilities during the first phase are as follows:
Melee: It is noteworthy that Al'ar does not hit for much at all, and that he actually hits for physical damage, not fire, so no fire resistance on the tanks are required. Two healers are enough to keep the tank tanking Al'ar up, but due to the nature of the first phase, 3 tanks are required, with another one tanking the adds.
Fire Aura: This is a aura similar to Firemaw. It has no range or LOS problems, and will hit everyone for 2k worth of damage per tick. Sounds like a raid wiper? It is, but he'll only cast it if there's no one in his melee range. Always keep a tank on him.
Quill: The quill attack is THE thing to watch out for during phase 1, he'll (without a timer) fly up to the top of the middle of the room from time to time and commence to spin, spewing fire all around the floor and the walls of the upper levels (and part of the ramps leading up to them). Whoever (since only tanks will be up there for the whole fight, tanks) is up there during the quill attack will be almost instantly killed. It is important, then, to notify the tanks to jump down from the upper levels whenever this happens, and then the tanks should run to the ramps, ready to intercept Al'ar when he comes down either to station 1 or 4 (randomly).
Adds: Whenever he changes stations (so every 30 seconds), an add will spawn where he is. It is recommended to have a paladin range taunt the add, and then a tank pick it up and move it to the entrance of the room where the melee will burn it down. The add hits for around 1-2k on cloth (physical), but when he dies, he'll blast everyone around him for around 8k worth of damage (along with a huge, and I mean huge, knockback). So, the tank tanking the adds have to have his back to a wall, and when the add is about to die (~15%), all melee should move out and have a rogue stunlock it to death, with cloak of shadows to avoid the explosion. Alternately, you could keep a couple ranged on the adds to burn down the last percents while all the melee run out (recommended)
Ranged dps could not get aggro from Al'ar during phase one, so the ranged should go all out, and since Al'ar will be moving around the room, all the ranged / healer should move with it. Controlling the adds and having no tanks dying to the quill attack is key. Also, since there are four stations and 3 tanks (you can use 4 if you have that many), the tanks should fill up the spots 1, 2, 3 when the fight starts, and rotate to a lower number station whenever they're done tanking him to fill up that empty spot. Note that sometimes he does not move to the next station after a 30 second interval, but still spawns an add. This fight is a tanking fight, make sure you bring your best.
Just when you're about to celebrate your first downing of Al'ar, he spawns in the middle of the room with full hp. Not only that, the second phase is the harder part of this encounter.
His new abilities:
Melt armor: He'll stack a debuff on the current tank tanking him, reducing the tank's armor. Therefore, you need at least two tanks taking turns tanking him by using taunt (he is tauntable).
Flame Wreath: He'll spawn flame circles randomly on the ground similar to Aran's Flame Wreath except bigger. If you stand in them, you'll be taking around 3k worth of fire damage per second. Run out.
Charge: Sometimes he'll randomly charge a person for 4k damage, nothing serious.
Meteor: The key to phase 2. After every 30 seconds, he'll fly up to the middle of the room and become a huge meteor, He'll then randomly target a player and "bomb" him, causing a small aoe of 6k dmg. He'll then respawn at that spot, knocking anyone near really far away. Along with him comes 2 adds that are exactly the same ones during phase 1, except that with each add killed during this phase, he loses 3% of his total hp (he won't lose it if he's in his meteor form, be warned). Have two tanks control the adds, dragging them away from the raid, and have all the dps (all) burn them down one by one, melee running out when they're about to die.
Enrage: When phase 2 starts, the clock starts ticking. You have 10 minutes to down Al'ar until he wtfpwns your raid.
Note that his melee is still weak, and that he still flame buffets people if the person highest on his aggro list isn't in melee range.
When phase 2 starts, it is very tempting for tanks to run to the middle of the room where he spawns, but he spawns with a blast, for if you're too near, you'll be knocked to the other side of the room. So, have your tanks stand around the edge of the glass and be ready to intercept him. Since he retains the threat gained during phase 1 (he did keep a list), have your top dps'ers reduce their aggro before this phase happens. Taunt, intercept, and intervene are mighty useful tools. This is where threat becomes an issue, but since all your dpser are on the adds, don't make a big deal out of it.
When the meteor hits, have your add tanking tanks run in and thunderclap to grab the adds' attention, and then drag them out before Al'ar spawns with a blast again. The main tanks then run in (or intercept) Al'ar. The dpsers should only dps Al'ar when there are no adds up. Keeping everybody alive is the key to the whole encounter. Rinse and repeat meteor phase, and you're done.
May I add that, imo, this is one of the funnest encounters I've seen. While not very difficult, the amount of attention and skill required from everyone is just spot on.

Curiously, due to the extreme amount of off-main-tank maneuvering and healing required by the entire raid, this is actually the 3rd boss most raids take down. Void Reaver is pretty simple, so much so that some guilds kill him before Gruul. Even Solarian only really throws one or two nasty tricks at a time, but the Al'ar fight can be ruined by any number of separate incidents occuring simultaneously. The flame patches and meteor hits often cause range issues with healing and dps alike. Bring your dancing shoes and pull that camera way back; keeping track of the big picture is a major key to the fight. Phase one is brainless for dps... basically have fun unloading with all the mana you dare. Phase two is like holding a square-dance in a minefield. Very exciting.

If you are tanking the adds, they are level 70, therefore you would only need 475 defense rating to become crit immune. After you hit 475 defense rating you can stack as much fire resist as you want w/o fear of being crit.
Keep in mind the adds do PHYSICAL damage when they attack, it is only when they explode that they do fire damage.

He is immune to fire damage, mages cannot be fire for the first few attempts. Bring smart, well geared tanks and the fight is simple as a mage. You have to be smart when it comes to summoning your water elemental and using icy veins. The Water elemental should be on adds most of the time because they don't resist as much as Al'ar does. Al'ar requires a lot of spell hit.

Ok no one has mentioned this, but as of 2.3.3 Al'ar is still bugged. Firstly, if one of the trash mobs (such as those big phoenix dragonhawks) respawns while fighting him, he resets, going back to full health. Maybe an intentional thing? I don't know.
The second bug, that I know of, is that in phase 2 when he does his meteor move and reappears on that spot, there is a knockback effect. If his target is affected by the knockback, he will try to engage that person, but since they are in the air or on the edge of the room, he can't, so there will be a form of evade bug. IF you're lucky he'll only recover about 40% of his health, unlucky he'll fully reset and you'll have to start all over again.
My advice would be do not do this guy unless you REALLY want to go to hyjal and black temple.

This boss is actually quite challenging, with pairs of adds spawning in Phase 2 that need to be picked up by tanks and DPS'ed very quickly. For a full explanation of the fight, see

Does he drop a phoenix mount? I know it's going to be in the game one way or another.

According to a Bluepost Blizzard added new Items for this Boss. Anyone know what those are?
