You can usually get this from Mithril Veins ( Mining ). It drops quite alot and is good for engineering & Jewelcrafting

Get a ton of these from prospecting Mithril. Just from the ore I got while skilling up my mining, I ended up with 40 Star Rubies. Definitely the way to go if you need them.

Star Rubys are a good item to stock up on. I like to have a couple stacks ready for the demand spike on the AH. When the price is right, I just post 3 or 4 on the ah at double my purchase price. I try to burn up some of the supply by making Sniper Scopes; but can only sell so many of those. As of now though, I’ve exhausted my supply, selling them at 6g each by posting when there was no competition. I’m waiting to build up my supply again when the price drops to 2g or under.

Although prospecting Mithril can net you quite a few Star Rubies, I'd suggest farming and prospecting Thorium instead. Not only can you get some Star Rubies, but you can also find Blue Sapphires, Large Opals, Arcane Crystals, Huge Emeralds and Azerothian Diamonds. About half of the time you'll get one of the more precious gems along with a Star Ruby.

When leveling up Jewelcrafting, the two gems best used between 255 and 300 are Star Rubies (Ruby Pendant of Fire) and Blue Sapphires (Sapphire Pendant of Winter Night). Since you'll be looking to make Thorium Settings, this makes Thorium the more optimal choice. Not only this, but you can also make some of the higher level items with the other more precious gems you find.

Miners under 270 should look in places like the Blasted Lands and Burning Steppes for Small Thorium Veins. Miners 270+ can nab tons of Small and Rich Thorium Viens in Un'Goro and Eastern Plaguelands. You'll also be running across the occasional Mithril Vein as well for more Star Rubies.

Un'Goro is the best place to farm IMHO. Run along the outer rim of the zone, making sure to check the small areas located in the hills. Every time you pass by the Tainted Scar, make sure to head inside for Ooze Covered Thorium Veins, which generally have more Thorium than the usual node. Cut through the center of the zone once in a while, since there may be some small veins here and there.

For some odd reason this item doesn't say it can be dropped from Scorched Guardian in badlands. Which it can if you look at the creatures drops.

Also. I have killed them a few billion times. (For that drakes heart quest. Ugh. Low drop rates FTL!) And have seen it drop by them. So I can confirm it. Not that it's even needed though.

Any way. Just thought I point that out because I unable to find it in the list.

I sometimes get it by looting Horde/Alli in Alterac Valley. Normally get about 1-2 though.

If you don't have mining and need some Star Rubies, the Vilebranch Raiding Wolves at the Jintha'alor ruins in The Hinterlands are a good place to start. I've killed nearly 10 wolves and I already have two Star Rubies. Granted, maybe I got lucky, but if you're stumped and don't have the gold to spend on the Auction House, I would recommend this place to start your search.

man, it doesn't drop very often... i got mine from a truesilver vein and i thought it'll be a regular drop from veins (like shadowgems), but not so... might have to buy from AH... anyone know what's a good price for it? or where i can farm it? need to make truesilver champion for my friend

i pick pocket these for my guild.. i usual do LBRS and BRD runs going as far down and picking as many as i can.. i usually get about 5 or 6 on a lucky run, and 1 or even zero on some.. usual take me about 10-15min a run.. sells for 1g each on Garona. easier to just buy, but on a lucky day i can get over 20 of them for blacksmither's to lvl up, saving them 20 something gold.

I don't believe truesilver can be prospected - same as gold and silver. I've had some from prospecting iron and mithril but not high drops rates.

I found one of these in a Scum Covered bag, dropped by some ooze's in Hinterlands.
The Scum covered bags drops really good tbh, i found alot of stuff in just one of them out of 3 =]

iron ore is rubbish for star rubys, it's too low lvl.. you're better getting it from mithril and i've had alot from thorium ore aswell

Malestrom, star rubys selling at 115% mark up for 10g and 62% mark up for 6g its a rip off. Better to buy mithril ore and prospect them. I hate the people that undercut me by 10-15g but when i see a bunch of ^&*!@#$s selling items like these for outrageous prices well, i spent 400g on mithril ore prospected close to 30 rubys, then i raised my JC and sold 15 star rubys at 2g a piece. #$%^ YOU GREEDY COMMIE BASTARDS! see if your 15g star ruby sells now.

As a rogue, I get the majority of these from pickpocketing. Best pickpocketing drop rates I've found are from the slimes and oozes in Skulk Rock (Hinterlands) and the Weeping Cave (WPL) and from most mid- to higher-level ogres (Tanaris, Blasted Lands). Also, out of the several hundreds of lockboxes that I've gotten through pickpocketing, I've probably come across five or six star rubies tossed in among the blinding powders and the shabby knots (not to mention the occasional jewelcrafting or tailoring pattern).
