This weapon is eligible for level 35+ enchants. The total exp gain for this weapon's questline at level 29 is 17,600 (although it is attainable earlier). This is not counting discovery exp or exp from killing monsters (both of which you can avoid by level 29). If you cannot get it without dinging 30, you can try Skullbreaker which is less exp, or buy a Looming Gavel.

Windstorm Hammer 1H-Mace (Main Hand), was best 29-melee twink weapon because it could be enchanted with mongoose etc. (Horde)
Bleeding Crescent 1H-Axe (Main Hand), is another melee weapon for 29s. (Horde)
Skullbreaker 1H-Mace (Main Hand), is better choise for casters. (Horde)
Crescent of Forlorn Spirits 1H-Axe (Main Hand), good choise for paladins and shamans as its TBC-enchantable.(Alliance)
Archeus 2H-Sword, not so good but still tbc-enchantable. (Alliance)

All of the other items does not require over level 30+ to complete quest, totally completable at 29, some at 28 or earlier.
All of them can be enchanted with TBC-enchants, except Windstorm hammer since 2.3 "nerf", (they changed item lvl under the enchants needed lvl).

This thing packs quite a punch. The questline is long and very hard to complete without twink-squad to help you, but this item has more dps that any other level 29 required 1h except the Torturing Poker- and on top of that, it has great stats and is TBC-enchantable!

when are these 2.3 changes going to be made? haven't done this quest yet, but supposedly changes to other items after 2.3....i haven't seen yet

Also to note, that being one of the only TBC enchantable weapons usable by Priests, this makes it a desirable choice for the Priest. Death Speaker Scepter ( https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=2816 ) is nice, but only Level 28/iLvl33. So no TBC enchant.

Twinky Priests can use this with +40 Spelldamage and Omega Orb ( https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=7749 ) as your offhand for a great combo.

It seems that the new updated version for patch 2.3 changed again for a second time.
As in PTR 12 November 07, the item changed to:

35 -65 Damage Speed 2.10
(24.0 damage per second)
+6 Strength
+6 Stamina

So in comparison with the original first version of the item, it will now get just:

+3-4 Damage
+1.9 dps
+2 Strength
+1 Stamina

In addition to the changes above the item level is now considered to be 34lvl and not 36lvl as it used to be, so it can not be enchanted with TBC enchants anymore.

This is the best weapon for DW Warriors to wield in their main hand, may they be level 29 or 30. This makes a good pairing with Torturing Poker from Scarlet Monastery, however, since it is a low drop, you might want to pair it with Legionnaire's Sword from Warsong Gulch.

This weapon is great for shammy for 29 (non-twink dunno for twink). Probably one of the best FC weps in wsg with shield because stam, and the dmg and str is handy too.

Nice post - I totally agree.
Tons of grind quests that are easy.

One thing you didnt mention though is that there IS a gun vendor so you can repare etc. He's at the eastern side of the house closest to the eastern raceway with the tauren quest npc.

Not for a twink. The idea for a twink is to be the strongest one in the BG, so putting mongoose on this makes it worthwhile.

this item is being changed in the upcoming 2.3.0 patch its gonna be a blue with 27 dps....LOL.....it used to be so lame and now i find out i have to get i for my twink >_>

The quest lvl for getting this starts at 25, and as you progress it say lvl 28.

I thk thottbot is wrong on that, because i just got it at lvl 27, and i just turned 27.

Just to let you know, that you might be able to do all the quests at 25 and have it that much earlier.

how upset was i this morning to discover that the NOW beautiful windstorm hammer can no longer be enchanted with mongoose. the concequence of changing the weapon from uncommon to rare is that the item level is now 34......i'll let you figure out what that means. that leaves us with skullbreaker, the poor dps mace to enchant. very frustrating.

Its a pretty pwn mace but the stupid patch made it item lvl 34 so u cant get mongoose on it. Im pissed cause i was gonna get it for my warrior twink. aw well guess i gotta go with crusader. argh...

But what about the people who already had the old green windstorm hammer with mongoose on it? do they keep it like it is or do they get the new blue one or what? anyone have someone with it that can tell me what happened with them?

with my twink ghöst, i did my research found the weap and got it enchanted long b4 i knew it was gonna be buffed/nerfed
and the same with most the other ppl that have mongoose alrdy, they have it cus they did the research to get the item long b4 they knew of the 2.3 changes. so pls dont look as us as the lucky gits that managed to enchant it just intime b4 the patch =p, im sorry or all that missed out, i woulda loved to see every horde rogue with it, but in a way im glad it got nerfed since in my battle group im one of the very few with the enchant and so my goal of being the best i can be is much more attainable, i do have a 29 backstab rogue too "Shadowbreed" once ppl started declaring that rogue as the best in the battle group i wanted to make a new twink and i ended up makin the ss rogue heh xD but my new 1 is 100x better =)).
and to reply to the guy that was saying about their equivilent being the 1h axe which wasnt fair cus rogues cant use it.

well i disagree.
when blizzard says they try to make it balanced. they dont mean they make it so all classes are the same. the axe would be really nice for a shammy for example, or a warr infact. i dont know if i should mention. since 2.3 gnomeregan has be come a heaven for twinking items, no1 seems to have seen the item lvl 37 2h axe required lvl 28 now +18 str, +8 stam eligable for some TBC enchanting. But take advantage fast cus itll prolly be fixed soon, used to be lvl rew 31 pre 2.3 i believe, but yeah... its not so easy getting ppl to boost in gnomeregan horde side since horde hates that place, id imagine it being easy for alliance, the manual crown pummeler that adds 500 haste, u can farm alot of them and use em on a druid, in cat form there atk speed is so fast its insane. just use ur imagination guys... when i made my mongoose rogue the hammer was only 22dps, i made it with the risk of it being worse then my dagger rogue and therfore wasting 500g+.. to be the best u have to take risks try new things, experiment a little.

i shouldnt really be hinting things to ppl. but id rather show ppl stuff they can do instead of hearing them whine about what they cant do.

Otherwise its nice TEAMPLAY Auction House and barginning that revels us with nice equipment.

This hammer is still one of the highest DPS 1handers .. Think theres only one other, Torturing poker. This is a nice in-between, quick speed, nice-ish damage. Sure its not as high-end as zealot blade / pvp swords. Still nifty though, even if it is just AGI / Lifestealing / Crusader on it. And don't forget your TEAMPLAY shamans to drop some firey-totems for those who don't use poisens. Nice extra damage pretty much.

Paladins, druids, locks ... Or. Thorns, retribution, Firey-shield = a nice extra 25 or so reflective dmg. Adds up pretty fast :)

TEAMPLAY > Noobz.

even though Blizz nerfed it on patch 2.3, it is still a killer top-end damage weapon. i started the quest tree at lvl-25 with help from a 70. grouping and ungrouping as required. completed the whole tree and my rogue is is 4 1/4 bars into lvl-26 and has it. i would rather use this than a Zealot Blade...more top-end damage...better stats. still a killer weapon for any class than can use a mace.

all the whining by alliance was about horde rogues, warriors, palidans getting BC +35 enchants. Blizz listened to them or the horde didn't whine :)

now the horde has to complain about the alliance Crescent of the Forlon Spirits like the alliance whined about the Windstorm Hammer. i just started 29 pvp and see Alliance warriors, shamans, palidans, with +35 BC enchantss like mongoose, battle master, executioner, etc.

If you had this with mongoose BEFORE 2.3 Blizzard were kind enough to let it be. However, now, POST 2.3 you CANNOT enchant it with mongoose.

So if you have this weapon, without mongoose on it yet, you never will / can.

Instead, you should flame @ Blizzard for still letting alliance have their forlorn spirits mongooseyness.

...And i thought Horde were their favourites :'( I don't like Blizz anymore. I don't wanna play :'(

too much about rogues. what about other classes in the horde that lost out to on a nice 35+ ecnh item when Blizz nerfed it for reasons unknown?

yet the alliance has the crescent of the forlon spirits (axe)still +35 enchantible?. their shammies, warriors, palidans, and hunters who want to spend the money for 35+ enchants...can. Blizz left this one alone? why?

3 of those players with moongoose are death on a stick. generally most warriors are ARMS-Spec in 29 PVP...with a 2H weapon such as the corpsemaker. lately i have seen more warriors Fury-spec DW with this axe and moongoose enchant.

i play a warrior (has 7000+ kills) on the horde side, i tried fury spec..DW when i started 6 months ago and generally would lose against Arms-spec warriors. i respec'd to arms and a corpsemaker/crusader ench. in some BG's i ran into alliance DW warriors Fury-spec that pawned hands down. they had moongose ench...when it hits and gets that lightning speed and agi bonus....seems like 2-3 hits and my 2100HP is instantly gone. also it's not just mongoose. some have +7 wpn dmg, +20 agi, battlemaster, or the +80 healing spells...way overpowered.

in OCT 07 thru research found out about the windstorm hammer...i started a new warrior and got one, but was working on the 400G mats when Blizz nerfed it...i deleted that player all out.

this is not intended to be a horde vs alliance whine.
BLIZZ needs to make things fair in BGs...it's not...i blame BLIZZ. there should be no items available thru loopholes that are +35 lvl enchantible in 19 or 29 pvp brackets. Blizz can easily remove +35 ench and reimburse mats on a patch as well.

they did it with the guys in 19 bracket who had the shoulder enchancements.

BLIZZ make it fair and equal for everyone....new and old to the game. people do play the lower end of the game...it's not all about 70's

These were updated from vanilla to TBC so that they are no longer green-above-i35. Previously this may have been the best mainhand combat rogue weapon for a 29 twink. For people looking to gear similarly before Classic-Wrath, consider

Bleeding Crescent (Usable after wrath when rogues get access to axes)

or

Skullbreaker (+5 intellect mace, but juicy juicy mongoose)

If you're going to just spec Sub, you lose out on mongoose but Torturing Poker MH & Vendetta OH are going to be your best bet. (Double TP if you can't find Vendetta, I haven't seen it on the AH in months)

This item is not available in phase 1 of Season of Discovery, as 知识试炼 (and all subsequent quests) had their level requirement increased to level 26.
