One of the rewards from the Quel'Delar quest chain, the others being: Quel'Delar, Ferocity of the Scorned, Quel'Delar, Might of the Faithful, Quel'Delar, Cunning of the Shadows, and for those of you who can't wield swords there are mace rewards from the same quest: Cudgel of Furious Justice, Hammer of Purified Flame, and Lightborn Spire.

This is the caster dps sword, although I can definitely see a Paladin healer choosing this reward as well.

In reply to LordEnder: If turning a sword into a dagger is such a big task for Blizzard, then I wonder how they can create a game as big as WoW. Making it useful for shadowpriests and boomkin would've been such a small effort for such a large gain. I'm just saying this, because Blizzard has a habit of putting silly stats on boomkins items. I mean, c'mon, even T8 is better than T9 for us. Boomkin fall behind in dps so much, it's not funny. We might be one of the worst dps classes out there.

You get this awesome sword (or mace), just for running the new 5man heroics and following a nice questline ?

Just obtained this wonderful sword after a LONG q chain. You start the q from a q item that rarely drop in the frozen halls, i would say... maybe 0.1 %-1 % and then you gotta do some fun q requiring you to infiltrate the Silver Convenant/the Sunreavers and then when you're donw with that you need to do the Frozen Halls, Pit of Saron first to reforge the blade, then Forge of Souls to temper it and then to Halls of Reflections to subdue the blade for a short time, then you need to head for the Sunwell, when you are there Speak with the named NPC right outside the entrence, now you need to obtain Thalorien Dawnseekers blessing, so you go to the Dead Scar in IoQD run a little North from there and there his remains is. then you fight some mobs that can be quite hard and then after that just head into the sunwell to cleanse the blade. To do that you must talk to a Sunwell Warder and they'll escort you there, then just use the blade near the Sunwell and then there will be a quick conversation between the Blood Elf Regent lor and their Grand Magister for Horde at least (dunno about Alliance) and then you go back to Icecrown to the swords rest and at last go to Violet Citadel for your just reward! CONGRATULATIONS!

People this is ridiculous never have I seen so many down-rated comments. Most people don't care if you got it on your character or with exact trash mob it dropped from. Also no this is best for "x" class.

The main thing that people want to see our any special effect numbers and theory crafting numbers. Perhaps with this item explain the glitch that affected the first day.

To sum up things:

This is only available if your class can use a sword. If it cannot, then a choice of maces will be offered instead.

Lens of the Mind is the caster sword, and a very good one. A side grade for Frost Needle https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=50771. I'll leave others to debate the BIS of staff vs. main hand / off hand.

This sword also has very attractive stats for Holy Paladins as well. Given more focus on Crit / Haste, it seems a more desirable weapon than Lockjaw https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=51004. The mace has Mp5, a useful, but not necessary stat for Paladins.

If you are focusing on just ICC 10, then this is a useful weapon and an easy upgrade.

This is the best caster weapon for its iLevel if you're hit-capped.

There are three ilevel 252 dps caster one-handed weapons (I am ignoring weapons with MP5):
Frost Needle
Bleak Coldarra Carver
Quel'Delar, Lens of the Mind

The first two have hit on them, so if you're hit-capped, Quel'Delar is the clear winner.

To do better, you'll have to kill the Lich King in ICC10N, or run ToC25H, ICC10H, ICC25N, and ICC25H. Of these, I'd say the easiest upgrade to get is Frozen Bonespike, which drops off Marrowgar in ICC25N. So if you have access to that encounter, don't spend 10,000G on the battered hilt.

Caveat: I haven't looked closely at the staves yet.

After a lot of debate and thought about the weapons that drop in ICC 10 which is what my guild is progressing through I chose to fore-go the 8k gold I could've sold the hilt for and instead I am doing the quest string. Whether or not they nerfed our mana regen from crit these three stats are still ideal in most situations. No sword or mace in ICC10 has these stats. Once again Holy Pallies cry. There are two daggers but nothing valuable. In fact depending on the proc chance of the one decent healing weapon in ICC 25 this might be the best Holy Pally weapon until you down the LK in 25 man.

While it is true that Quel'Delar isn't such a powerful item, the rich lore behind the sword and it's quests is enough for lore junkies like me to complete the quest and not sell the hilt. I'm not even mentioning the badass look.
