The direct damage part only takes 15% spell power whereas the DoT part takes 52% (not to mention the DoT base damage is roughly 2 times the direct base damage). A good grinding glyph for non feral druids.
Also, entangling roots won't break early on "glyphed" moonfires.

PvP wise it's probably true. PvE wise you are much more interrested in the dot part than in the dd part (and don't care for burst), so having that one boosted is nice.

Pop a moonfire when your spell damage is maxed with all trinkets and cooldowns, then use glyphed Starfire to extend its duration indefinitely (with crit + haste you can land a Starfire every 2-2.5 seconds). Since you never have to reapply the DOT you can keep up the highest possible tick and won't miss the initial damage from the glyphed Moonfire. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a glyphed moonfire tick for 2k+ using this method in level 80 gear - meaning that if you use these two glyphs in combination you get an easy extra 6-700+ dps for a Starfire spam rotation, while with enough haste and crit it may even be possible to build up enough ticks to take advantage of Eclipse, weaving Wraths in for periods of time to maximize DPS.

Any tanks considering this one? Say I threw a Moonfire up on two mobs when I'm pulling, and then tank a third target, with some swipes and such. Would I not hold better aggro on those two if Moonfire was more of a DoT like this? (Of course, this won't apply until level 80 and a third major slot. For now, it's Maul and Frenzied Regen, hands down)
Edit: Obviously, this is a stupid idea now that tanks have more majors to choose from. Please disregard the above! :P

Im still kind of skeptical about the Starfire Glyph because i think it may keep adding to the moonfir dot on your target so it doesnt even get a tick off. With a good spell haste rating and +6% overall spell haste with talents, my starfire cast is down to 2.79 second casts and even less when i crit. If you casting time on starfire is less than 3 seconds wouldnt that just keep moonfire maxed in duration and not let it get 3 seconds in for a tick to go off? If someone can prove my theory wrong plz explain.

I just noticed.. it seems that the initial damage is merely reduced by 75% (instead of 90%)
Tested as 80 Moonkin with 1175sp (yeah that's low but who cares) :
Moonfire without glyph : ~760 initial dmg + 436 ticks
Moonfire with glyph : ~185 initial dmg + 708 ticks
760-75% is 190 when 760-90% is.. well.. 76
.. not sure if it behaves differently as you get more sp..
Anyway that just makes the glyph (a little) better, so i'm not complaining, just sharing thoughts
(french moonkin here so please forgive my limited knowledge in the Shakespeare's Tongue)

Is it just me, is does this glyph now RESET the timer, rather than extend it? And not 9 seconds total, it just resets it 3 times.

Let's calculate damage with 1500 spell power without talents.
Direct damage part of
Moonfire
takes 15% of SP, DoT 13% each tick (and ticks 4 times untalented). For calculation I take highest possible damage from DD part.
Without glyph DD part does 476 damage, DoT part 800 dmg, so:
476 + 0,15*1500 = 701 DD (1402 for crit)
800 + 0,52*1500 = 1580 DoT dmg.
Whole dmg is 2281 without DD crit, or 2982 with DD crit. With 30% for crit medium dmg is
2490
.
With glyph DD part does 48 dmg ant DoT part does 1400 dmg . So with 1,5k SP its:
48 + 0,15*1500 = 273 DD (546 for crit)
1400 + 0,52*1500 = 2180
Whole dmg is 2453 without DD crit, or 2726 with DD crit. With 30% for crit medium dmg is
2534
.
Dmg with and without glyph is comparable.
But...
If you're talented in
Nature's Splendor
and have active
Glyph of Starfire
moonfire gets additional 4 ticks. So now DoT part takes 104% of your SP (8 ticks * 13%).
Without glyph:
476 + 0,15*1500 = 701 DD (1402 for crit)
800 + 1,04*1500 = 2360 DoT
Whole dmg without crit is 3061, with crit it's 3762. With 30% for crit, medium dmg is
3271
.
With glyph:
48 + 0,15*1500 = 273 DD (546 for crit)
1400 + 1,04*1500 = 2960 DoT
Whole dmg without crit is 3236, with crit it's 3509. With 30% crit medium dmg is
3317
.
All calculations assumes that glyph only affects base dmg of moonfire (as stated in one of comments below).
As you can see - If you don't crit often, Moonfire with Glyph does more dmg. But if you're lucky for crits Moonfire without Glyph does more dmg.
Moonfire with this glyph could be far superior to Moonfire without glyph, if the -90%/+75% would be calculated AFTER spell power.
If I made mistake in my calculations please correct me.
PS. And sry for my english ;d.

this glyph is used exclusively for a starfire/moonfire build druid.
with the starfire glyph extending the dot portion by 9 more secs and 2 peice thunderheart increasing it by another 3 secs(in addition to talents) as such this will EXTREMELY increase your damage over time, on its own however or as a low level, leveling glyph it is a very poor choice since you may often be forced to "moonfire spam" something to kill it before it kills you in certain situations ESPECIALLY at lower levels(less than say 50-60). If you can procure 2 piece thunderheart for the duration bonus its a good idea to keep key pieces(like say the belt and bracers from sunwell vs any other combination because of stat allocation at 80), 4 for leveling is also nice for the 5% crit bonus for starfire.
Also good for twinking tier six 70s that do not wish to buy WotLK for the account their boomkin is on.
This seems to be a raw damage increaser rather than spell power scaling glyph with the current build, not recommended for non-twink pvp/level 80 arena unless you are running with other damage over time built folk in some strange or unique set up.
and for reference your moonfire will last 27 secs, which will have it doing 1400 damage per 12 secs before spell power. Or ~116.67 base dps added to your damage per sec rate. Thats roughly 4203 damage over its 27 second max duration at ~467 per tick. BEFORE spell power. Now add 52% of your spell power to that 12 sec Duration for your complete figure and break it down to see the pure DPS it will add for you in pve and situational pvp.
However theorycrafting wise you can just say it will receive 100% of your spell power at 21 secs +26% of your spell power at the extra 6 secs, so it should minmially do damage equal to 4203 damage over 27 sec + ~126% of your spell power in damage. This is all BEFORE any %arcane or spell damage modifiers come into play which usually top out at 13-27% min/max increased arcane or spell damage against a target.
Should the advent of critting DoT ticks come into play in Patch 3.1 you should see an extremely massive DPS increase come into play if you are in full epics and tier 7.5 and/or stacking crit and spell power.
for the tl;dr's out there: Take this glyph in conjunction with the starfire glyph if you are decked and speced moonkin wishing to increase your dps in pvp in fights against things not arcane immune/resistant, for massive dps increase.

It doesn't just change the base damage! it changes after spellpower, additive with other effects. See below

While this didn't surprise me, but I think it should pointed out, the initial damage done by Moonfire can, of course, still crit. Meaning that it can still proc
Nature's Grace
(and other character talents like

).

This is a great glyph for Moonkin DPS. I strongly recommend using it for raid DPS.

Moonfire (rank 14):
Initial damage without Glyph of Moonfire: 441
Initial damage with Glyph of Moonfire: 44.1
Over-time damage without Glyph of Moonfire (over 12 seconds - each tick doing 200 every 3 seconds): 800
Over-time damage with Glyph of Moonfire (over 12 seconds - each tick doing 350 every 3 seconds): 1400
Over-all damage of Moonfire without glyph: 1241
Over-all damage of Moonfire with glyph: 1444.1
(I did not account for any talents but that's not my point, just look at the numbers. It's not a huge difference but with spell power and talents it will still be more with the glyph.)

Glyph of Moonfire will affect both base damage and the damage increase from spell power as explained below.
The damage increase is additive. This means that all the additive damage increasing talents and buffs will be added together before multiplied with the base damage and bonus damage (separately). If the bonus damage from the glyph was multiplicative, the damage would be a flat 75% higher, which is not the case.
Based on hours of research, I can provide the following information:
Moonfury is additive
Genesis is additive
Improved Moonfire is additive
Glyph of Moonfire (DoT effect) is additive
Glyph of Moonfire (DD effect) is additive
Earth and Moon (debuff) is multiplicative
Earth and Moon (passive damage) is multiplicative
Master Shapeshifter (Moonkin Form) is multiplicative
Which leaves us with this calculation:
Base damage of one Moonfire tick * (1 + Moonfury (3/3) damage bonus + Genesis (2/5) damage bonus + Improved Moonfire (2/2) damage bonus + Glyph of Moonfire damage bonus) * (1 + Earth and Moon (3/3) (debuff) damage increase) * (1 + Earth and Moon (3/3) (passive damage) damage increase) * (1 + Master Shapeshifter (2/2) (Moonkin Form) damage increase) =
a total of 145% damage increase
In numbers:
200 * (1 + 0,1 + 0,02 + 0,1 + 0,75) * (1 + 0,13) * (1 + 0,06) * (1 + 0,04) = 490,81 damage
This provides the damage of one Moonfire tick without spell power, including all damage modifiers from talents and Glyph of Moonfire. To include spell power in the calculation, simply multiply your spell power with the coefficient for Moonfire (DoT) (0,130225), and multiply with damage modifiers. In this example, we'll have 1000 spell power.
1000 * 0,130225 * (1 + 0,1 + 0,02 + 0,1 + 0,75) * (1 + 0,13) * (1 + 0,06) * (1 + 0,04) = 319,58
This provides the bonus damage from spellpower of one Moonfire tick with 1000 spell power, including all damage modifiers from talents and Glyph of Moonfire. Base damage and bonus damage together would add up to
490,81 + 319,58 = 810,39
damage. This provides the damage of one Moonfire tick with 1000 spell power, including all damage modifiers from talents and Glyph of Moonfire. The complete formula for one Moonfire tick (assuming
this
is your spec) is as such:
200 * (1 + 0,1 + 0,02 + 0,1 + 0,75) * (1 + 0,13) * (1 + 0,06) * (1 + 0,04) + Your Spell Power * 0,130225 * (1 + 0,1 + 0,02 + 0,1 + 0,75) * (1 + 0,13) * (1 + 0,06) * (1 + 0,04)
