Yeah this is pretty pointless, seeing as Hit Rating is more widely known as a PvE stat and Spell Penetration almost exclusively for PvP.

And yes, although Hit Rating does extend into PvP, you only need 105 hit rating (untalented, unbuffed and without Draenei Presence) for 100% hit chance, and as WotLK has already proved it's not too difficult to stack up Hit Rating on gear.

I find this to be the best option for blue slots on a pvp DK. The other options for blue either have non offensive stat points included (stam) or the pure spell pen gem. This green gem is the only multi-color-pure-offense-gem for a blue slot. Looking at it in that light, its pretty bad-ass.

For a DK not to miss melee special abilities vs a player, you require 5% hit. I like to not "waste" any points so I cut it as close as possible. These gems allow you to adjust your hit in smaller increments in the same slot as gaining the needed 75 spell pen. (I know that you will still miss in pvp, but only when they activate an ability that increases your chance to miss.)

For me it really shines in the furious gladiator weapons because I want to get the free +12 socket bonus but keep purely offensive stats. This rule applies to any piece of gear that has an offensive stat for socket bonus but requires a blue gem. If you have +12 stam socket bonus and you need a blue gem just put a red gem in it and call it a day.

Screw stam, get your healthy serving of spell pen and hit that's a requirement for a well balanced pvp set and yet is rare as hell in pvp gear.
