If you are an Engineer, it is NOT a good idea to convert all your Iron to Steel through the Mining Smelting ability. The only thing Engineers need Steel for is a Gyromatic Micro-Adjustor, which only requires 4 Steel Bars, and once you've made one of them, you'll never need to make another one unless you vendor or destroy your first one.

On my server steel is usually a lot more expensive than Iron+Coal, so it's a good moneymaker for low level miners

smelting iron into steel also reduces the vendoring value for those who do not want to spend the time listing them on the AH, from 2s bars and the 4s coal to 60c steel bars. coal varies some on rep.

in Orgrimmar in the Valley of Honor, the mining trainer teaches it. dunno about Thunderbluff or Undercity off the top of my head, though.

No, there are no steel mines (i wish there were so i would have to walk 2 ft to buy coal from a vendor =P) You smelt it with Iron Bars and Coal. I however suggest you just sell the Iron because they usually sell for more (on my server at least), i only smelt Steel if somehow Steel is more expensive (never happens...) or if a guildie needs some for blacksmithing.

I don't understand why people are so quick to jump to defend someone when they simply ignored the answer. It isn't to the benefit of the community to coddle people. It doesn't get much more gentle in life then to be mocked on a forum about a video game to learn how to source information.

It says at the top of the page it's made with iron and coal, there, thats it. No need to ask and waste time, the answer is right there.

If someone ignores the entire value of the information on the page then anything said to them or for them won't be considered either using perfect logic. They won't see it either.

I hope that person is still looking for steel mines. He was clearly incapable of finding the information here and probably bothered a few more relatively educated people with his inability.

Lets face it, some people would rather hear themselves talk then read what they are asking about.

Come on People! It says at the top of the page that a steel bar is made with an Iron Bar and a piece of Coal (which is bought from a mining vendor)!

Has the AH value posted here, for Steel, been confirmed around that price?
I ask, cause it strikes me as being kinda funny, that a full stack of steel is worth over 15 gold in AH.

On my server at least, I can sell steel in stacks of five with a buyout price at 3G and it sells exceptionally well.

Smelting steel can be learned from the mining trainer found in the dwarvent distrinct in the back left corner bld 2nd floor.. it requires mining skill 165 to learn it

Is any1 here on the realm nordrassil, if so, what is the price of 20 steel bars in the ah, cause i know that vendoring them gets me less money that just selling the iron bars.

For anyone else trying to smelt up their mining, the reason it shows 165/165/165/165 is because it's gray as soon as you learn it. You'll have to mine your way through the higher levels.
