Prices on greens wont be affected in relation to each other as it takes as many of the others colors.
The prices on green level gems will increase to a level where 5*3 of them matches the average of a blue.
This also means items depending on green level gems will rise slightly, such as Earthstorm Diamond.

On my server, a blue level uncut gem is about 30g in average, this means green level gems will increase to an average close to 2g. This is a substantial increase for all but red.
Red green level gems will prob jump to about 4g each.
In the same time, blue level gems will drop in price as Epic gems are buyable with badges, prob with an average of about 5-8g.

Actually this created a great shifting of prices on Dunemaul realm.

1. Prices of green quality gem skyrocketed (which is logical)
2. Prices of blue quality gems ALSO skyrocketed (can't seem to see why, but it is true)
3. Prices of cut blue quality gems also went up (suppose this was due to the 2.)
4. Adamantite ore has virtually disappeared from the AH, and the remaining have their price increased for almost 50%
5. Fel Iron Ore has seen its price raised for more than 200%

I suppose this will all come back to previous state, once people realise they can only make 1/day. Still, i think this was good for the JC profession, since the prices of jewels started to go ridiculously low.

Please note that there is a 23 hour cooldown on creating Brilliant Glass, so there is a cap on how many blue stones you can create this way.

on my server, this is a guaranteed waste of money. alone the shadow draenite, golden draenite and blood garnet will sell for 3-7g cutted each, and for example 1 talasite will sell for only 9g, most other rare gems are below 30g.

maybe the recipe was nice to clear up the AH after the patch, but with the impact on the economy it is completely useless now.

It is still viable to do this on my server though. Yours is being either somewhat overspeculative or really reactive compared to mine, where the rare gems still sell for around 40-50g (though the patch is new and the prices will lower eventually)

Edit : though, I blame it on the reactivity of my server because for example void crystals still sell for less than large pris's

Look a few posts up and read my comment about epic gems. Now in next patch it's going to have a chance to make an epic quality gem. Go figure, not quite the same way I thought it would be, but still, if you give a mouse a cookie.

This is going to be awesome for guilds that aren't quite up to MH and have numerous JC'ers in the guild with this ability. Already on my server I have seen both epic uncut and epic cut gems on the AH for about 350-425G a piece. However, in guilds that are still in Kara, ZA, and even SSC and TK, these are probably going to stay in guild for a while like before since the guild will want to raise their stats with the epic gems before letting them out in the market.

Next they'll want a chance for gems that are already cut with crazy stats (might happen, I'm already 1 for 1 sorta) to pop outa these things.

No one seems to have mentioned this but at what level does this turn green? I am currently 362 and it's still yellow. Seems like a rather nice way to get a easy skill point daily, if your in no rush to get JC to 375 that is.

I know the patch at this point is not even a day old, but if we could get a new drop rate on the epic gems from someone who used this on the PTR or in a week or so if someone could get an approximate drop rating on epics that would be great. I'd do it myself but I used up all my green gems before I saw they were changing this in 2.4.2 :(

At patch there were 3055 Brilliant Glass opened total, with 0 epic gems.
Now there are 3998 Brilliant Glass opened, with 5 epic gems.
Most of the data from the most recent update is tainted with pre-patch loot, so we'll see how it has changed the next time it updates.

Well I have I have done 10 since the patch. Zero epics. With the one day cooldown this dropchance is just horrible.

Today was the 3rd time when i create brilliant glass.first day drop a living ruby, 2nd a talasite and surprise, today i got shadowsong amethyst. it's all about LUCK:)

Assume you could get 3G each for the uncut green-quality gems, for a cost of 27G. Assume that you can cut and sell the resulting gem for 10G, 30G, 30G, 40G, 45G, 65G, depending on color. So, the expected value is 36.7G. It's a net win of around 10G, on average.

On the other hand, if you don't have a lucrative cut in every color, you may have to sell the uncut gem you get, and that would probably be breaking even.

Getting an epic changes everything, of course. If there's a 10% chance of that, and the epic is worth 300G, the expected value of doing this is 63G. Now, that's a winner.

I Got a Crimson Spinel from the Brilliant glass,So I Am guessing all of the epic gems 'Drop' from it,Not listed on WoWhead.

When Brilliant glass was added to the game, blizzard removed the chance of getting green (uncommon) gems from mining (this was not listed in the patch notes). This of course drove the price up of those gems to values much higher than was expected for the brilliant glass recipe alone. The epic gem vendor also helps drive the price down of blue gems.

The combination of these two changes caused the brilliant glass cooldown to be a very unprofitable venture (most blue gem cuts are selling between 50-60g while uncommon cuts were selling as high as 10g each at the time). Fel Iron ore also shot up in price.

Blizzard decided to add a small chance to get an epic gem in 2.4.2. This made the Brilliant glass cooldown a gamble. On lower pop servers where the epic gem vendor is not out yet (as of this posting), Epic gem pricing is much higher and most people consider the gamble worth it , especially with the start of season 4 and the high demand for gems of all qualities.

Blizzard decided to add green gems Back to mining in 2.4.3 This will undoubtedly drive the prices down. If it goes back to the same drop rates as before, the brilliant glass recipe will go back to being something that is used every single cooldown, and the AH flooded with cheap Uncommon cuts.

Brilliant Glass is considered a "conjured" item and thus can not be placed into Auction House (AH) but can be traded normally among players via standard trading....

However my question is, ....

Like most "conjured" items (ie: mage's conjure water and bread) will the Brilliant Glass dissappear if you where to log out before it was opened either by you or another person??

Personally I'm too afraid to try this myself lol :)

I dont know. 3 of each green quality gem is 2 meta gems transmuted. Im not sure this is worth it on my realm. As well, the price on all greens have went way up, golden draenite is going for 30g for 3! And other gems are now going for around 6-8g each. If I got a living ruby out of it, sure it might be worth it. But I've farmed primals and had transmuted so many metas, Ive used all my stock. lol. Metas on my realm go for 180-210g uncut and more depending on a given cut. So yeah, I guess if you have an overwhelming number of gems and nothing to do with them, it might be worht it. And like the poster just before me, IF I got a Crimson Spinel.....well, of course worth it all the way.

At 4921 openings, it looks like it's 0.75% for the blue, red, and yellow epics, and 0.5% for the orange, green and purple. That gives a 3.75% chance of getting an epic gem with this.

That's completely false. I farm my ore, and occasionally I still get green gems. I even got a dawnstone from a fel iron deposit last week.

I don't know how it used to be, but now it's total waste. On Quel Dorei, as of now, green gems go between 2-5 gold each. Times that x18 and what i got was blue gem that was selling for 3 something gold on ah. What a waste, i could have sold greens and made 40-60 gold.

I used to get tons of the lesser gems from mining back in 2.3...i literally had 40 of each. Now it seems the only way I can get any is to prospect ore. I've never gotten 1 Azure Moonstone, Blood Garnet, Deep Peridot, Flame Spessarite, Golden Draenite, or Shadow Draenite since the patch if it wasn't from prospecting. Did they nerf this on purpose because of this ability? For the longest time those gems were all but worthless, people would vendor them for 25s because they wouldn't sell for more than that in the AH they were so common. Now it seems to be the opposite. Blue Rare gems from mining are everywhere, and only high demand types sell form more than 15g in the AH. Talasites are almost completely worthless, selling for less than 5g on my server. I can get maybe 5 Blue rares from one trip through the Nethercite mines from Nethercite Ore, it just seems odd the way Blizzard flipped things. If they are going to do something that drastic I think you should be able to mine an Epic Gem with the same success rate that Rare Blues had in 2.2.

Even the Draenei (with their +5 to JC) should eventually max out the profession, even with the 24 cooldown!

Just started making these yesterday. So far I've made 2 and have got a living ruby from the first and a crimson spinel from the second. It is definitely worth it to make these once a day. Provided you have the mats.

Horde players can pick this up from the Hellfire Peninsula JC trainer. OR from shatt if you're aldor. If you're Scryer, like myself, go to the Hellfire trainer.

For the alliance this is also trained at Stormspire, by the Master JC Trainer there. He is in the building on the left as you leave the elevator. I can only assume that the Horde could train here as well.

I can verify that the content of Brilliant Glass is determined when the item is used, not created. I saved 20, when I opened them in 2.4.2 two of them yielded epics (which sold for 700g each tyvm) so the 10% chance of epic appears to be totally correct, at least by my experience

oh and about the "determined what is inside once created", it's true, making loads before 2.4.2 will only get you loads of blue gems and 0 EPPICXS.

Did some searching, and it looks like the guys on the ElitistJerks forums went and did some testing on the PTR and concluded that Brilliant Glass has a 10% chance of dropping an epic quality gem.

The cooldown on making this is now 20 hours, a forge is no longer required and they have a small chance to drop epic gems.

I logged on today after reading the updates, made some brilliant glass, and got a Shadownsong Amethyst (epic purple/blue gem). Not sure what the drop rate is, but alot of JCers I know have had this too, it could be just a bug.

My gems gotten from this since (18 may 2008) my alt was 350 JC, with an average cost of 90g-105g on my server (Terenas - PvE - Alliance):

1: Seaspray Emerald (370-500 uncut, 450-500 cut)
2: Dawnstone (20-35 uncut, 27-41 cut)
3: Living Ruby (50-65 uncut, 61-78 cut)
4: Living Ruby (50-65 uncut, 61-78 cut)

EDIT on 20 may 2008 (making of first Living Ruby):
Checked average AH prices etc, appears that blue gems are worth around 40g, and greenies around 5g.

Cost for making 10 Brilliant Glass: 900g
9 blue gems: 360g
1 epiXc gem: 450g
---------------- +
=810g worth rare gems

Which equals 900g worth greenies, ending in an average 90g loss when you assume you buy and sell via /trade only (more via AH since you get an addition cut on your 810g, and an additional amount of donation gold when failing sales)

Will continue making glass of spare gems until the skill goes green

NOTE: This is on my server, Terenas - Pve - Alliance

Buying lower quality gems to make higher quality ones with the hope of making money is dumb. This is just Blizzard providing a way to get epic gems without going in high level raid instances. It's also an easy way to level if you are a miner as well. Costs are clear so don't #$%^& about spending too much gold since nobody actually forces you to make those.

I have made about 35 of these so far resulting in a stack of talasite, 2 living rubies, nightseye, and 2 dawnstone. Not really cost effective if you need cash, but if you just want to clear out bank space and get something in return, it's a great way to put some extra gems in the Guildbank for others to use.

This is a Daily cooldown that allows you to get a skill-up if you need one, when materials are plentiful. You may get a decent rare gem, but consider them to be along the same lines as opportunities related to prospecting. With the cavate being, you will always get a rare gem.

If you do not have a ton of additional minor stones like Azure Moonstones, Blood Garnets, and so forth, this may be a resource hog you can avoid, while you skill up. Like I said, if plentiful, a good daily skill-up additional option :)
