In terms of PvP this is even better than the Nexus Key https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=29988 (drops from Kael). 3 +12 stam gems would give you 94 stam, 18 more than the Nexus Key.

In terms of PvE, anyone who can get an epic mainhand/offhand combo is probably better off, though the ability to get some hit through gems may sway people to this weapon.

this item is recieved by doing the timed event, if you kill 1 one of the bosses in time, you'll free one NPC, that NPC wil open a chest that can hold one of the several items (like this one) that can most likely only be recieved by doing the timed event.

I currently have Nathrezim Mindblade and Orb of the Soul-Eater. Combined, these give me:
36 stam
18 int
23 crit
203 all dmg
(51 shadow only dmg)

This, when filled with 2x Potent Noble Topaz and a Glowing Nightseye, give:
64 stam (28 more)
47 int (29 more)
39 crit (16 more)
237 all dmg (14 more)
(no shadow only dmg -51 less)

Make of that what you will :)

Well it could be the highest intellect staff in game for mage evocation in 2.3.

With 8 int gems and enchant, it is 101 int.

If your original weapon gives you 41 int, the extra 60 int could give you roughly 60*0.6*15= 540 (652 for talented gnome)extra mana in evocation.

However I believe you wont get extra mana from the first tick if you swap the weapon in combat with script like

/cast evocation
/equip XXX

and also you lose 1.5 sec gcd when you switch back the original weapon.

Staff swapping may not be necessary after 2.3 even you have the highest int staff in game.

I've seen posts above in regards to pvp , pve items . I have to say that still seeing this staff I wouldn't change it from the Merciless staff ...+hit and more + crit and even more spell dmg that you have to socket it to get it so it's such a small improvement . But for Pve players that Hate pvp it's a "go for it ! " item imho :)

This staff, with 3x +12 spell damage gems gives only 1 point less damage than the Mindblade + Orb of the Soul-Eater combo, but has higher crit, stats and the damage applies to all schools of magic.

If you're prepared to spend some cash this is a worthwhile upgrade from the blade / orb.

The sockets on this item make it one hell of a staff that you should roll "need" for. Filled with some nice gems you won't need another staff for a good period.

The best weapon for stamina set. (Eredar tanking etc.)
58stam on staff plus 45(15*3)stam from gems give you 103 stamina only from weapon.

would this be useful for tanking leotheras i started doing ssc recently and other t6 instances but i personally never tanked him and was thinking if the amount of stamina provided is good for it or would i favor another weapon set like MH + OH

This is one of the staff drops from new the Zul'Aman instance. Almost as/equally good as Merciless Gladiator's !

This staff is a reward from the new raid, Zul'Aman, you can get it after you do the timed quest. Not really sure what that is, but thats where you get it from.
