The armor on these gloves is about 150 more than the nearest leather gloves. This makes these gloves the best bear tanking gloves you can get (although they would likely be replaced later on by tier 4 gloves because of the 4 piece tier 4 feral druid set bonus in bear form, which gives more plus armor than the difference between these gloves and the tier 4 gloves).

That being said, these are by far the highest armor class leather gloves available.

if you hover your cursor over the green bit in the quest item pic above, youll notice it is +220AC from leather equivelants. at 400% increased AC in bear form its a whopping 880 increase. Well worth it for any tanking spec'd druid.

From what I've experienced, hitting the armor cap as quickly as possible is the best thing for a feral druid to do because agi and dodge rating arent on very many pre-raid pieces. I tanked prince on my feral druid a couple nights ago, and being able to reduce the hits as much as my 23k armor did was helping much more than the 34ish% dodge i had. Considering this is a pre-raid quest blue, this is the best you can get.

Again important to note these are excellent for Enhancement Shaman, since the shield is of no use. As noted above, these have more Armor than many mail bracers, and additionally have excellent AP (52) and decent agility and stamina.

This quest chain is a PITA, but the gloves are worth it because they are some of the best tanking gloves you can get.

Blizzard has put in alot of leather items will high armor counts as quest rewards. It's part of the itamization for feral druids. Without the armor count, there is no reason to take them

I have been feral since level 10 and Im so glad that we are finally getting the recognition we deserve. We are really great players and we deserve more respect than.. "ooh! a DruiD! lets make it buff us and heal and BRez"

Just got these... put my armor over 20k in bear. (along with 12k health) Looking to get Thorium Weave Cloak with +120 armor enchant to complete my tanking gear.

Also look at Jerkin of Untamed Spirit, Manimal's Cinch, and Ash Tempored Legguards for some of the highest ac leather items in game.

To everyone comparing these to Wastewalker Gloves, the best gloves depends on what else you're wearing.

Here is how you calculate what percent of damage you will take.

I left crit reduction out because neither gloves affect that. To minimize a product, reducing the lower factor by 1% will reduce damage more than reducing the higher factor by 1%. For example, if you have 65% dmg reduction from armor, you take 35% of damage. Adding 1% more will reduce your damage by 1/35. If you have 20% dodge, 1% more dodge will reduce your damage by 1/80, a much smaller increase. You'll have to input your own numbers to find which will mitigate more damage. I believe "Miss" is a 5% base chance plus the amount you get from defense skill.

If the difference is small, and it probably will be for most druids with decent gear, use the verdant gloves. The general consensus on the druid forums is that armor is better for tanking than dodge. This is because armor reduces the same damage from all hits, while dodge randomly reduces 100% damage. Your health will drop much more steadily with high armor than with high dodge, which is totally unpredictable. Armor makes healing much easier.

Also, dodge is lower on the hit-type table than crushing blows, which all bosses are capable of. So even if you have 100% dodge, it will not protect you from them at all. In fact, the few attacks that hit you will be all crushing blows, since you will dodge every other kind of attack, making your health far to erratic to heal easily. Only armor and stamina will help for these most devestating of attacks.

The gurgleblaster list is a very nice reference, but his formula unfortunately does not give enough points for armor, while giving far too many for stamina, and DPS is not included in the rank at all (although it is calculated and listed). Take a look at the 2H weapon list. The fact that 4 laughable green staves "of the monkey" are rated higher than Earthwarden is a testament to this fact.

Edit - Earthwarden had no stamina on it before 2.1 and really was ranked lower than 4 green staves on the list, though it was still the second best tanking weapon in the game.
