This key will remain in your inventory after completing the quest. It is safe to delete it, as you won't need the key for anything else.

If you've destroyed the key, you can ghost through the gate after dying. So take off your gear and get to mining.

Today i changed the race of my toon and noticed a hole in my Keyring.

You get this key form Scout Zargan after completing The Fate of Kagrosh. It is used in the next quest Bring Down the Warbringer. Key opens a gate inside Deathforge to get to Warbringer Razuun.

I've seen the door that this key is meant to unlock, located in the right tunnel inside deathforge, but I have no idea how to get it. Any info on how to get the key?

You get the key (at least as Horde) as part of a chain quest from Scout Zagran.

The part before you get the key is called The Fate of Kagrosh (couldn't find it on thott), in which you find Kagrosh's pack inside the Deathforge.

There's also another part preceeding that which I think comes from someone in Shadowmoon Village.

Not sure if Alliance have anything similar but it's pretty likely.

i didn't get a key either after having completed kagrosh quest - but no matter, i was able to open the portcullis anyway

First, you have to do the quest where you find Kagrosh's backpack and bring it back to the quest giver. You don't get the key right then though. You also have to do the quest where you enter the summoning chamber and disrupt the summoning of an Infernal. Both of those quests are fairly easy as long as you are patient. Once you've completed both of those qeusts, the quest giver, Scout Zagran, gives you the key as part of the Bring Down the Warbringer! quest.

Does anyone know?
Once quest is complete do we realy need this key for anything else... it's been sitting in my key chain. Affraid to discard it in case we need it for anything else.

The deathforge key is given to you by the NPC quest giver Stormer Ewan Wildwing on tope of Deathforge Tower.
When yous tart the quest called "Bring Down the Warbringer!"
he gives it to you.
(It is not a drop off a kill).
BTW...it enters into your keyring so you might overlook it
