I recommend going after the Unstable Voidwraiths for these. The drop rate seems substantially higher than their caster compatriots, because I picked up all 8 on my two level 70 characters off them and not one from the Voidshriekers.

Did this quest as a 69 frost mage. the drop rate was higher (wowhead says 2-3% higher) on the Unstables than the shriekers. I recommend going after the unstables because 1, they have a higher drop rate and 2, they are way easier to kill. Takes me like 2-3 hits on them vs like alll my mana and health on the shriekers.

Thottbot keeps track of all the kills and drops of things killed...pretty well...but there are some errors.

First of all, it keeps track of everything killed and what it drops for people ON and OFF the quest. People who farm motes of shadow from these guys and arent on the quest will screw with the drop rate.

Second of all, the drop rate is simply a percentage. Say, for example, the drop percentage is 30%. That does not mean that you will get the drop 3 out of 10 times. It means that there is a 30% chance that the item will drop. You could fight 100 enemies and have nothing drop because you were unlucky enough to get the 70% of the non-drop percentage.

Lastly, these comments are for posting relevent data regarding to the quest. However, it has become more of a "show off board". By that I mean someone posts on how horrible their drop rate was and someone has to show off and say something like, "well i get minez in first 20 dropz. u r a noob" or something along the lines of that.

I just wish that the administrators of Thottbot would watch the posts and delete the accounts of people that write things that are worthless. People that post only to show off or to spout off to others about how they are the only ones that can do things correctly only make the post board longer than need be. Only one or two posts are really needed per quest.

I hope my post on percentage helps out all that read, and please, post responsibly.

31 total mobs killed for 8 fragments of Dimensius.
drop percentages:
unstable voidwraith = 19% (4 drops/21 mobs)
voidshrieker = 31% (4 drops/13 mobs)
including 6 looted motes of shadows from these mobs.

Fighting the ones right by the forge seem to have the highest drop rate. I was getting them just about every 2 kills (no matter what I was killing)

I'd still get ganked trying to kill them, what with the fear and only having one time of magic (paladin ftl here). It annoys me that there's no graveyard closer to this place

Simple quest, kill kill, the caster ones go down VERY fast, shadow bolt hit about 700-800 with 0 shadow resistance. Hit about 200 normal on me, 70 rogue.

The others are abit tricky! They havn't got lots and lots of HP, but they got some and hit normal. Pretty usual mobs, except that when they die a kind of... Ray comes up from body to the sky, if you go too close it'll do about 1k dps, so watch out here.

And if you think the Drop Rates are wrong, then don't use this site! It is that simple, and always remember: Lets say that a mob has 70% drop rate, then can still kill 999999 enemies, and not one drop, because you have been unlucky and hit the other 30% every kill!
But my real point is: Why do you complain that much? Thottbot is doing the best they can to manage a whole website with nearly everything from WoW, and then every time you see a drop rate you think is wrong, you start complaining! Really, how old are you? 5?

Bad drop rate but not 2 2 bad, 10/20 Thier at Manaforge Ultris mine dropped off of Voidshrikers more then the others

if ur a hunter NEVER start w/ arcane shot or he'll spam arcane missles which hurt... ALOT. i have found that using viper sting to drain their mana is good to lead w/ cuz te lightning bolts dont do too much dmg. (for the Voidshriekers)

There are gather quests where the quest items drop extremely rarely, and are more an excuse to grind than anything else.

This is not one of those quests. If you get a bad droprate, stick with it! I had to kill over 10 mobs before 1 fragment dropped and almost gave up, then the rate picked up to about 1 every 3.

The ones nearest to the manaforge seem to have a better rate too

And, if you use arcane attacks when you killed n Unstable Voidwraith, stand back, it will attack you with it AFTER you've killed it!(Scary I died once)

All this talk about drop rates is a waste of time. Kill the right critters and drop rates don't matter. I concentrated on Voidwraiths and Voidshriekers:16 kills-8 fragments. Enjoy.

The fragments have like 5% drop chance or something..... Takes ages to get them :(
