If my math and WoWWiki formulas are correct, for a level 70:

Aldor - Greater Inscription of Warding
Defense = 10 / 2.36 = 4.2373
==> Dodge, Parry, Block, Miss = 4.2373 x 0.04 = 0.1695 % each or 0.678 % combined avoidance
Dodge = 15 / 18.9231 = 0.7926 %
Total Crushing Blow Avoidance = 0.678 + 0.7926 = 1.4706 %

Scryer - Greater Inscription of the Knight
Defense = 15 / 2.36 = 6.3559
==> Dodge, Parry, Block, Miss = 6.3559 x 0.04 = 0.2542 % each or 1.0158 % combined avoidance
Dodge = 10 / 18.9231 = 0.5285 %
Total Crushing Blow Avoidance = 1.0158 + 0.5285 = 1.5443 %

EDIT: Changed my OP to specifically state "Crushing Blow Avoidance" for clarity. For what it is worth, I'm Protection spec Paladin, and exalted with Aldor.

I believe that for paladins, this is more important since it helps uncrushability. As a warrior, I am preference to Scryers because of the other inscriptions. However, I do believe in terms of avoidance Aldor is a better choice.

This inscription makes it easier for newer tanks to attain easy defense rating & get away from defense trinkets without sacrificing more important enchants.

With the change in shoulder-enchant mechanics in 3.1 this enchant can now be applied to BoA-shoulders!
But you must be >lvl70 to benefit from the enchant but it will help in levelling from 70 to 80 at least.

Blizz has gone to making shoulder enchants available to all of your characters (with appropriate level requirements to prevent OP twinks)...so you only have to do the rep (or honor/stone) grind on one toon.

This applies to Sons of Hodir (req lvl 80), Wintergrasp (req lvl 80), Honor (req lvl 70), Violet Eye (req lvl 70), Aldor (req lvl 64), Scryer (req lvl 64), Argent Dawn (req lvl 55), and Zandalar Tribe (req lvl 55), enchants.

The enchants can be placed on gear worn by low levels (e.g. BoA gear), but the enchant will be red until the character reaches the required level. For the non BoA enchants (PreBC and BC), you have to have the gear in your inventory to enchant it. It can not be applied through the trade window (so enchanting your lowbie's quest reward gear is out).

On your main buy a pair of shoulders for your twink buy this Inscription from the scryers and apply. While it is casting (4sec.) put it in the mail and push send when the casting bar is almost full approx 85-90%. With all dodge options you can acheive higher then 85% dodge.

Can this be applied to soulbound gear owned by somebody else?

I.e. if I work my way to Exalted with the Scryers and buy a Greater Inscription of the Knight, and my buddy opens a loot window and puts his shoulder armor in the "Will not be traded" slot, can I apply the Inscription to them?
