If you don't have cords...

You go tocan go to

1)Loch Modan and then you go to the bridge thing and jump off. Just keep going down. If you stay in the water you shouldn't die. If you do die it will be right next to the root. Just run back to your body, rez, and you get it.

OR

2) You can go to the Wetlands and go all the way to the end of the map past Dun Algaz and Thelgen Rock. When in doubt just follow the water to the end!

They take around the same amount of time so they are the same dificulty. It is just a bit easier to get through Loch Modan that the Wetlands.

Well it's quite easy to catch it. First you go to Ironforge and go out the gates, follow the way to Loch Modan, pay attention to the road signs.
Then you'll see a tunel, go through it ,it will lead you to a "dead end" , but no, on your right side there's another tunel, go through it, and you'r in Loch Modan, no monsters to kill. Follow the way once again, pay attention to the road signs, till you reach Stondraw Dam. Go to end of the Dam , you'll see some waterfalls, JUMP, down there, then you'll see a silverish stone indicating another waterfall, JUMP again, you'll land on another pool, well, yep, Jump again, and you are in the Wetlands'Falls just ON the musquash root.You'll see it easily, it's big and shiny.OH, just go under water for a second and it's there right beside you.

Well I just finished this quest. For me, I would't bother going anywhere else. Stay in the Wetlands. Follow the main river south east to the very end where you see the water fall. Between two water falls you will see a small 'branch' like object. That is the root you should take.

Don't bother running all the way to jump off the damn in Loch Modan to possibly kill yourself... and it's just not the damn you have to jump off of, but two other waterfalls that will potentially kill you as well. It's a long run back if you do die!
