This pole's kind of lame. It's basically a big iron fishing pole with useless stamina, as you can't fight with poles. Might prove useful if you get attacked while pvp flagged so that you can run away and get out your real weapon but otherwise it's just a half-decent pole for alliance, still not as good as the horde +25 one though.

I like to go to Stranglethorn Vale and beat lowbies to death with my fishing pole while wearing a "Festive Pink Dress" and my Rocket Helmet from my Netherstorm quest....thats fun.

I suppose alliance also wanted a green fishing pole, seeing as horde already has the "Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler FC-5000" which is actually better for fishing.
(you can get it from a quest containing snapjaws in the hinterlands.)

My question is... since a fishing pole is a weapon... why can't you enchant it with fiery or icy? I want my flaming fishing pole!

Interestingly, this is classed as a pre-TBC item.
It disenchants into pre-TBC mats.

This is probably because its item level is only 60. It would be interesting to calculate if the stamina is calculated in the item budget using the pre-TBC or TBC value.

I am surprised that no one mentioned anything about "Big Iron Fishing Pole" https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=6367 that comes with +20 fishing too, and it is very easy to get at lvl 50+ . It requires only lvl 25 to use it but mobs in the area are 40+ so its best to go there at 50+ and you can farm it without getting aggro. All you need to do is grab a few underwater breathing potions and start farming.

Yeah, I think the stamina is there just in case you get ganked on a PvP server and such. IMO this works our best for Druids, since all they really require on their weapons is stats.

If you are a member of the Horde, then there is a fishing pole from pre-BC Azeroth that is better for fishermen than this one. Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler FC-5000 is a fishing rod you get from completing the quest "Snapjaws, Mon!"

Although Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler fishing pole has fewer attack points and no stamina stats like Seth's Graphite, it increases fishing skill points by +25 instead of +20, and is usable at fishing skill 100 instead of 200.

This quest, though, is available to Horde only. So if you're a member of the Alliance, sorry, but you're out of luck.

The only other fishing pole that has more fishing skill points than this one is the Arcanite Fishing Pole which you get from the "Master Angler" quest in Stranglethorn Vale on Sundays between 2-4pm server time and is available to both factions. This particular fishing pole has +35 fishing skill points.

Could this actually be used for a twink warr?I saw the dps of swords and even the lvl 40 epic ones have lower dps than this pole.Also +52stam its rly a lot for a twink (season 2 staff gots same stamina....)Tho he couldnt use some of his skills and they cant get it coz of the q lvl requirement that is 62.

In 3.0.3 I noticed my melee crit going through the roof when I went fishing. With a ret pala spec, in ret gear I swapped out my Hammer of Naruu for this fishing pole and my melee crit went from 28.41% to 34.21%. That is a hell of a lot of crit, and it seems like my fishing skill (including a +100 fishing lure) is accounted as my weapon skill for fishing poles.

375 fishing + 20 bonus + 100 lure = 495

(495 - 350 mace skill) * 0.04% crit per skillpoint = 5.8 %

How wierd isn't that...

Looks like they're taking the 52 stamina and 46.5 DPS off this in patch 3.1.

Post Patch 3.1.0, this is exactly the same as Nat Pagle's extreme angler...dps is 1.5 rather than 46.5 and Stam is gone as well. Except that Nat Pagle's +25 fishing skill was reduced to +20 too.

Darn...I worked hard for that pole :(

For those of you that have deleted this item back in TBC thinking "You will never level fishing" and decide you want it back, I was able to speak to a GM and have it posted to me. I assume this is the same situtation for anyone that has completed the quest and Deleted/Sold the Fishing Pole.

How come Nat's Lucky fishing pole has 25 fishing skill increase and requires 225 fishing skill while this one only gives 20 skill increase and requires only 220?

That +stamina is a serious load on a hand weapon. If you were sitting back with a ranged weapon in a BG (particularly Alterac Valley) this could add a nice boost to your health w/o much downside.

I asked this same question in guild chat when I picked up this item. What am I going to do with a fishing pole with 52 stamina on it? It's not like a fishing pole is exactly a great mele weapon, and it has less plus to fishing then my Nat Pagle's. Can anyone think of a reason to keep this thing?

some people have the idea of fighting with a fishing pole... Especially if it has +52 stamina on it like this one! Really some fishing poles have mad DPS if you are a high skill fisherman.

I used it in stv fishing contest, some rogue started backstab me and yes it was a nice weapon to that moment. Must been a shock to get 800 dmg per hit from guy whit a fishing pole.

You get the quest from a little boy called Seth in the refuge area of Shattrah city. You need to get 8 eels from the water northeast in Terokkar.

This is an outlands quest.. I dont know what level you have to be - I was able to get it at level 62.

Does anybody know the level and/or fishing skill requirements for this quest? Level 61, fishing 301, and the "!" over Seth's head is still gray :(

Oh, Seth is downstairs from the local Physician, sorta under the "north" overpass that leads out of Shattrath. You'll see him when you take the walking tour quest inside the city.

I sold this and kept Nat Pagle's rod. This is a higher level pole, but with 5 less +fishing? Sorry, but I don't really need stamina when I'm fishing. I'd rather have the +25 fishing bonus from Nat Pagle's.

There is no fishing requirement for this quest, only a level requirement, which is at least 62, I believe (as I recall, I couldn't get the quest at 61). I completed the quest without any fishing skill at all.

it's silly to not get this .. and even more so to DE it

every time i cast this i get 2 fish, or 2 clam, 2 kelp.. whatever (100% of the time in Azeroth) and about a 20% chance on getting 2 fish while in outland (Zang marsh so far)

.. it's good for farming pearls in Azshara, as well as stone scale eels, and winter squid.

Nice pole. The +stam is a real help if you are jumped because it allows you to start out with a larger health pool so you have time to switch your weapon out. Also it doesn't have bad damage by itself if you are a melee class; I actually crit for 500 damage once with this pole! lol. It is the best pole for alliance unless you are lucky enough to win the arcanite rod. If you are horde I would probably stick with the +25 quest pole for the extra 5 fishing skill.
On another note I would love to see this get buffed with +30 fishing, and/or see an engineering formula for an epic rod (+40 or +50 fishing)? That requires 350 engineering and a primal nether to craft. Come on blizz, you know you want to do it!

i agree, this pole has a crap load of stam but i dunno what the point of that is when your fishing?

perhaps if you get attacked while fishing you'll still have the usual amount of health by the time you switch to your main weapon so you can still pwn the attacker?

everyone keeps talking bout how the 52 stam can save u if u get jumped, "ull have the time 2 switch weapons". I play a 70 priest and there is nothing in outlands that is gonna magically one shot me without my mainhand and off hand equipped.

I would say that this is the pole to use when trying to activate "The Lurker Below." This would give you the HP to transition from luring him up to fighting.

A real fisherMAN fights with his pole! None of this namby pamby "switch weapons" guff. I wade into Zangarmarsh with this bad-boy and pound down the Hydra's like the red-headed step-monsters they are and take my place in the winner's circle when it comes to tasty fresh-fish hauls. Iron pole? Amateurs, nothing says professional angler like Graphite!

I like this pole and I like the damage it does. Sometimes I forget to switch the pole out when I continue to play, ( and don't even say you've never done it) so it's nice to have the stamina and damage. I've never had the horde pole so I have no comparison.
Did you ever notice you don't have to repair a fishing pole? Yeah, after a really bad fight when you've died repeatedly and you have no armor left and your weapon is broken to bits, you could still bring out this bad boy to make it past some beasties, but only as a last resort ;).

I noticed some people are asking "whats the point of so much stam on a fishing pole"?

This is where it comes in real handy, if your guild has got to the Lurker Below in SSC you will know that this boss has to be fished to start the battle. As a ranged Dps the very next thing i have to do is swim over to one of the islands to CC adds and nuke lurker. When swimming you take damage from the boiled water. This means i can get to my island and equip my normal weapons with no loss of health to start the boss fight.

Bearing in mind this fishing pole comes from an outland quest its possible that blizz have tailor made this pole for this very purpose?

not sure what happened but im not able to use this pole for fishing but i can use it as a weapon! Another weird side effect i got was i am no longer able to fish with any pole! Blizzard says its cause of the addons i have! But ive had two other poles since my addons so I dont really think thats the issue Im having! Theres got to be another reason for a fishing skill of 243 and then getting this pole! To cause the loss of any fishing ability! So if anyone else has ever had this issue,I would love to hear HOW/WHAT/or WHY this would happen! Please any kind of feedback that might shed some light on the problem would be really great

It doesn't matter if you are Aldor or Scryer to get the quest from little Seth.

What does matter is, that you have to make sure you haven't done this quest before. My friend had made this quest and when he then one day decided to go get the fishingpole (had 200 in fishingskill), he couldn't get it. He had forgotten all about he had done the quest.

He made a ticket to a GM that told him he had done the quest and then he replied with the question if it was too late to get the fishingpole.

Luckily he got the fishingpole - but I think its because the GM said it was okay that he could get it by mail. Some GM's replies with "done is done; over and out".

Btw - the quest from Nat Pagle doesn't need to be completed at all to take the quest from the boy in Shattrath City.

FYI: this pole even tho it says is item level 60 - it cannot be enchanted with level 60 requirement enchants as I found out today, dunno why - maybe thottbot is wrong on item level I do not know : (
