This flask is being completely changed in patch 2.2 to the following:
"Flask of Pure Death
Requires Level 65
Use: Increases spell damage caused by Shadow, Fire and Frost spells by 80. Counts as both a Battle and Guardian elixir. This effect persists through death."
Materials to craft the flask have been left the same.

This item is in serious need of an update. The description above is for "flask of pure death".

Flask of Shadow Protection now reads

Use: Increases the player's resistance to shadow spells by 35 and health regeneration by 20 every 5 seconds for 2 hrs. Counts as both a Battle and Guardian elixir. This effect persists through death.

When patch 2.2 hits, if you have learned the flask of shadow fortification (functionally replaced by flask of chromatic wonder: https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=33208) you will have this instead.

If you use Flask of Supreme power a lot, this will be your replacement and I can say it's about time TBC gets a replacement for that flask. All mats are obtained in Outland, so you'll no longer be hampered by the Black Lotus mat Supreme used. (If your server had very few herbers in Pre-BC areas)

If you use Arcane, Nature, Holy, Flask of Blinding Light will be your replacement, another that uses Outland mats.

The recipe for this procced off a Super Mana potion crafting spree, on a crafting alt.

Personally i would use this is in combination with mp5 food as the heavy damage & mana regen can be the kill-factor in resist gear fights like Mother Shazraz

Unless you or a close friend is a Herbalist, or if your Guild/RC is very loose-handed with their Herb hand-outs, this Flask really isn't all that.

This might not hold true for all servers, but currently on my server, the materials for Flask of Supreme Power tally up at about 50% of the price for this Flask.
Thus, you can draw the conclusion that paying double the price for an additional +10 Damage simply isn't worth it.

Requirements to make a discovery

You must be crafting a potion, elixir, flask or performing a transmutation that was added in TBC.

As a rule of thumb that's anything that is learnt from a master alchemy trainer, dropped from a mob in outland or purchased from a vendor in outland. The only real exceptions are the pre-TBC flasks that have been made available from faction vendors in outland.

NOT requirements to make a discovery

You don't need to be in outland
You don't need a mastery
You don't need to be 375 alchemy
You don't need to be level 70
You don't need to craft yellow or orange recipes to make discoveries. Even grey recipes can proc discoveries
You don't need to be crafting a related recipe *except* in the case of cauldrons (You can discover flasks when making potions for example)

I just discovered this potion while leveling my alchemy with super mana potions. I'm level 67, and i have 362 in alchemy, so apparently you do not need to max these to discover new potions.

I made this discovery tonight on Shadow Council. I'm a level 65 mage (named Kaerra) and I had just hit level 399 on the creation before the discovery. I'm so thrilled!

I don't see that anyone else has reported this, maybe it was changed in 3.1. I was making some WotLK elixirs this morning and I discovered this recipe. So I would guess that the TBC flasks are now discoverable with any Alchemy recipe added during or after TBC.

This also procs off of Crazy Alchemist Potion. It never dawned on me, but since the pot has a chance to give the effect of another random pot it kinda makes sense. So far Crazy Alchemist Potion has created Flask of Blinding Light Flask of Mighty Restoration and Flask of Pure Death for me.

They should throw out all the old price data from before the date of the update! They haven't done that yet. and it has been five days since the update.

All the comments below had to do with the now non-existent Elixir of Major Shadow Power, and are worth keeping for the info they contain about how one might learn to make this, etc...

I think it was Tuesday, 25 SEPT 2007 that the 2.2 update became active.

Glancing at the prices for these first 5 days, it is fairly clear that the effect of a Flask of Pure Death is more useful/desirable/VALUABLE than the effect that an Elixir of Major Shadow Power had.

So, my advice is charge more, see what sort of price the buyers will pay for this more powerful potion.

Just the name alone, FLASK OF PURE DEATH, is a lot sexier!

To expand on what was mentioned above, this used to be Flask of Shadow Fortification, but it was changed to it's current state in the last patch (9/25/07).

I discovered this recipe last night, after making ONE super health potion. You don't have to make tons of things, though I did think that before. I made nothing before or after, so it was definitely just one. (It's probably the only discovery I'll ever make on this character, so it's just as well, hehe)

If you discover this....u have discovered the best, most profitable flask of them all. you can't go wrong with 80 spell.

goes great for:

shadow priests

fire mage

frost mage

afflict lock

destro lock

fire lock

ok...well that may not see like a whole bunch, but when u look at the dps classes caster wise, ull find these guys in large # and they spec specifically for these focused elements, and to those melee who might not know 80spell is a lot.

don't think its all great for everyone, i'm 375 elixir, and have been for at least 100 elixirs and potions, and i've yet to discover ANY new flask/pot/elixir, grats to those of you that did at lvl 51 and with skill of 301, but for the rest of us.. this waiting kinda stinks..

This item was originally Flask of Shadow Fortification, which granted 75 Shadow Resistance and 40 Health per 5 sec (nerfed to 30 resist and 20 hp5 in patch 2.1). The item id itself was overwritten with this current flask, added in patch 2.2.
