Zero procs. Assumption is that within a small margin of error it doesn't proc from ranged. So stick with you 35 agility unless you are raptor strike spec'd -_-

Just wondering, with sword combat spec'd rogue, with the "chance for extra attack," would this have a chance of proc'ing on that "extra attack," if so, that would make it seem to proc most with a combat sword rogue, than any other class, of course it also depends on weapon speed, but still.

Proc Watch in Karazhan for 4 hours....Mongoose on Emerald Ripper (1.8 spd) and Riftmaker (1.8 spd)....3.6 ppm. Proc watch on single Mongoose on Emerald Ripper over same time period in Karazhan week prior...2.6 ppm. Correction on the above post, it's a 10 second buff. When 1 hand stacks on itself, the timer extends to 13-15 seconds.

i currently have mongoose on my malchazeen, and 15agi on my blade of the unrequited. is it worth it to replace the 15agi on my offhand with mongoose. mats are not a problem to obtain.

I have this enchant on my rogues main hand Blinkstrike "https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=31332" with 5/5 in Sword Specialization and it procs often. Yes it procs about as much as . But if you are using ProcWatch, the first proc will say "You agian Lightning Speed" if it procs agian within 15 seconds it will not say it in combat log but it will rebuff the current proc.

The lightning speed will reduce a weapon's speed from 2.60 to 2.55, roughly.

Dual-wielding weapons both enchanted with mongoose, and both procs, a further reduction to 2.50, roughly.

It would seem like the weapon speed increase is negligible.

120 agility is VERY nice though.

4/3/2007: 2.0.10 Patch changed the icon of the mongoose enchant from the BlueLighting icon (shown in the screen shot) to the revised image. The bolt now has splash damage around the impact point.

Vitality (rogue talent) also affects the 120 agility when you gain Lightning Speed. The 2% increase to agility is almost neglible but every bit helps. So when you have 2/2 Vitality you will gain 122-123 agility (whether you gain 2 or 3 agility is based on rounding factors).

The attack speed is multiplicated with all other attack speed increases (from abilities/procs/trinkets and pots). For example with SnD up your attack speed is increased to 133%.

Very expensive enchant and worth every penny :D

Enough about rogues, this is a great tanking weapon enchant. The proc adds 4% dodge rating and 300 armor. It is THE tanking weapon enchant bar none and it procs about the same rate as crusader.

I got this on my arms warrior's axe recently (after patch 2.1) and I'm not satisfied with it. I've found that it rarely procs and when it does, the bonus to your critical strike percentage is less than one would imagine because agility seems to have diminishing returns. The more you get, the less crit you'll get out of it. I expected the boost to be around 4.80 percent, since i have 118 agility and that gives me 4.72 percent extra crit according to the tooltip when I highlight it on my character sheet, but the bonus from the 120 agility proc is 3.64. The 2 percent attack speed is kind of a joke...yeah, so I deal normal (white) melee damage and build rage 2 percent faster for the relatively short duration, assuming my target is constantly standing right next to me (which is rare when fighting a lot of classes in pvp). Big deal.

I'd assume that Mongoose is much better for any class that attacks really fast. The buff lasts 15 seconds, so without any other attack speed modifiers, that extra crit percentage is only good for about 4 of my autoattacks after it procs. A class that attacks fast could potentially hit many more times during the duration of the proc.

I probably should have gone with Savagery instead. The constant effect is much more reliable and far cheaper, not to mention the cool new bleeding effect. Also, keep in mind that the damage gained from the extra ap of Savagery is also doubled when you crit, since melee crits are double damage. I see it this way: slightly extra damage constantly with each attack is probably more favorable than each attack having a chance to slightly increase your chance to deal much more damage for a very short while. There's a lot of luck involved with that.

Void Crystal - low 20's apiece
Arcane Dust - 40-50g a stack (i got a really good deal on 2 stacks for 50g)
Planar Essence x10 - 45-50g
Shards - 15-20g apiece

So be prepared to drop a few hundered ^_^

The prices has gone up a lot.. (or maybe just our server where evrything has always been expansive..) Yes im talking about Horde on Frostwhisper^^ .. as ah is atm:

Void - 40g each = 240g
Arcane dust - 60-75g stack = 120-150g
Planar essencex10 - 70-80g = 70-80g
Prismatics - 30-35g each = 300-350g
total = 730-820g

So.. yeah... but its still worth it! xD

Mongoose Dual-Proc's if you have it on both weapons, but also resets it self... If your main or off hand proc's twice it will reset. It will only dual-proc if both weapons proc within 15seconds of each other.

Hey I am an MS warrior and am raid DPS. I am really contemplating whether Mongoose would be good for raiding on my 2H or if I should just stick to savagery. I'd appreciate some help in making this decision. I have seen alot of people in my battlegroup who have Gorehowl/ Axe of the Gronn Lords using mongoose on their weapon.

as with most BoP recipes that have a static drop area, the requirement to see it is to have someone with the tradeskill to use it present so the droprate won't be accurate as some groups will have killed Moroes without an enchanter present.

however, it's likely that the majority of raids going in there would have an enchanter present to turn the epic drops into shards when nobody wants them. The droprate may be close due to that but it should be slightly higher then stated.

So....from what I've read so far it works best on the heavy slow weapons best. If thats the case, is this enchant better than the 35 agility enchant? I mean the 35 agility is constant while the mongoose has to proc. I'm just not sure which is right for me. I'm a Ret Paladin with a two-hander that is 3.80 attack speed. Thanks for any input on this matter.

The following is written from a Protection Warrior / Tank's POV. It does *not* apply to melee DPS players.

For a tank who is debating which enchantment, Battlemaster or Mongoose, he/she should put on their weapon, it's helpful to consider two different aspects about both of these enchantments: Threat, and Damage Mitigation.

Mongoose increases agility by 120 and weapon speed by 2% for 15 sec; this effect will proc roughly 1.4 times a minute with a fast tanking sword (thank you jmdbcool for your excellent explanation above), which means that this effect will be active on average 21 seconds out of every minute.

For warriors, that 120 agility translates to:

- 3.6% increase chance to crit
- 240 armor class increase
- 4.0% increase chance to dodge

To see how much that 3.6% chance to crit affects your threat, we have to draw a combat table. (Be sure to read the WoWWiki article on combat tables http://www.wowwiki.com/Attack_table if you aren't familiar with the concept.) Now let's assume that a warrior, Imatank, is a 70 human who has 5 extra racial skill points in the weapon of his choice, a sword, that combined with his attack power generates 150 damage per second and a 10% chance to crit. Against a level 73 mob or ?? boss and without any +hit gear, his combat table would look like

Imatank Attacking ??:

% to miss ---------------- 6.0%
% to dodge --------------- 5.6%
% to parry --------------- 5.6%
% glancing blow ---------- 25.0%
% to block --------------- 5.6%
% to crit ---------------- 10.0%
% to hit ----------------- 42.2%

Since crits strike for 200% damage, and glancing blows ~70%, the total amount of DPS landing on the ?? boss comes out to...

150 * ( 42.2% + + )
= 150 * ( 79.7% )
= 119.55 DPS

Over a 60 sec time period, that totals up to roughly 7,175 threat.

Now, when we add the 3.6% crit chance and 2% attack speed increase (simplified as a 2% increase in DPS) from the Mongoose buff, that combat table changes into...

Imatank Attacking ??:

% to miss ---------------- 6.0%
% to dodge --------------- 5.6%
% to parry --------------- 5.6%
% glancing blow ---------- 25.0%
% to block --------------- 5.6%
% to crit ---------------- 13.6%
% to hit ----------------- 38.6%

150 * ( 38.6% + + ) * 1.02
= 150 * ( 83.3% ) * 1.02
= 127.45 DPS

127.45 - 119.55 = 7.9 DPS increase

Keeping in mind that this buff is only active for 21 sec each minute, the extra damage/threat generated by this buff each minute is 166.

How does this compare with the other main weapon enchantment, Battlemaster?

Battlemaster has a chance on hit to heal all party members for 180 - 300 (avg 240), and it has a similar proc rate as Mongoose at 1.4 proc per minute with a fast weapon. Assuming that the wielder's party members are all taking damage, and none of the procs are over-healing (which generates no threat), the threat generated comes out to...

240 heal * 5 PartyMembers * 1.4 PPM * 0.5 ThreatPerHeal = 840 threat

Realistically, only half of a raiding party is going to be taking damage at any given time, so that threat amount is reduced to an average of 400 threat per minute. (However, there is the added advantage that if things start to get out of hand for a party and all members start taking damage, a well-timed Battlemaster proc that maximizes the amount of threat generated could help divert attention away from the accosted party members and onto the tank.)

Comparing these two numbers, 166 Threat Per Minute generated by Mongoose and 400 threat generated by Battlemaster, it is evident that BATTLEMASTER GENERATES MORE THREAT THAN MONGOOSE.

Remember that the 120 agility buff from Mongoose not only increased a warrior's critical strike chance by 3.6%, but also increased his armor by 240 and dodge chance by 4.0%. How does that affect his overall damage mitigation? Again, a combat table is necessary to analyze the change.

Let's suppose that our Warrior from earlier, Imatank, is again fighting a 73 mob or ?? boss. Imatank has lots of blue equipment, but no epics, and as a result has 12000 HP, 12000 armor, and 490 points of defense. He also has a 15% chance to dodge, parry and block. Therefore, if we assume that the boss is dealing a conservative 2000 DPS to Imatank, his combat table vs. the ?? boss would look like...

?? attacking Imatank:

% to miss ---------------- 10.0%
% to dodge --------------- 14.4%
% to parry --------------- 14.4%
% to block --------------- 14.4% * (absorbs roughly 25% damage vs. Bosses)
% to crit ---------------- 0.0% ** (in theory)
% crushing blow --------- 15.0% *** (150% damage)
% to hit ----------------- 31.8%

2000 * ( 31.8% + + + )
= 2000 * ( 65.1% )
= 1302 unavoided DPS

Since armor mitigation against a level 73 or ?? opponent is = AC / ( AC + 11960 ), Imatank's 12000 armor class gives him 50.08% damage mitigation, which further reduces his incoming damage to a total of * 650 DPS * , unavoided, unmitigated. With 12000 hp, he has * 18.5 * seconds to live before he dies.

With the 4% dodge and 240 ac Mongoose buff on, however, his combat table now appears as...

% to miss ---------------- 10.0%
% to dodge --------------- 18.4%
% to parry --------------- 14.4%
% to block --------------- 14.4% * (absorbs roughly 25% damage vs. Bosses)
% to crit ---------------- 0.0% ** (in theory)

% to hit ----------------- 27.8%

2000 * ( 27.8% + + + )
= 2000 * ( 61.1% )
= 1222 unavoided DPS

With Imatank's armor class now at 12240 thanks to Mongoose, his new damage mitigation of 50.58% further reduces his incoming damage to a total of * 604 DPS * , unavoided, unmitigated. With 12000 hp, he now has * 19.9 * seconds to live before he dies.

According to this sample study, the Mongoose buff reduces the amount of damaged being absorbed by a tank by 7.6%, or 46dps. Over the average 21 second duration (1.4 PPM * 15 sec), Mongoose will mitigate 966 points of damage per minute. Compare this with the Battlemaster enchant, which only heals on average 336 points of damage over the same time period.

Comparing these two numbers, 966 points of damage mitigation from Mongoose vs. 336 points of healing from Battlemaster, it is clear that MONGOOSE MITIGATES MORE DAMAGE THAN BATTLEMASTER.

So back to the original question: Which enchantment should a warrior choose for his/her tanking weapon? The answer depends on both the weapon, and the situation.

In situations within heroics and facing "trash" raid mobs, where threat is unwieldy to manage and rage difficult to generate, a weapon geared more towards DPS (Fireguard, or Blinkstrike) and enchanted with the threat-heavy Battlemaster is ideal. However, during dangerous boss battles, where a well-timed dodge can prevent a costly raid-wipe, a more defensive weapon (Sun Eater or King's Defender) combined with the damage mitigation of Mongoose is far more appropriate.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

yea you can enchant a 2h with mongoose, its on my deep thunder and i reccomend it. i know savagery seems better, but mongoose gives me about 3% crit chance and speed.also 240+ armor

if the choice is between battlemaster and mongoose, mongoose is probably the better choice however a smart tank should never use a proc reliant enchant for anything IMO 20 agility constantly gives you less mitigation then mongoose but is constant there is not relying on it procing to do anything you get your dodge crit armor all constants

I've recently crafted a Drakefist Hammer and I'm having second thoughts whether to pay an enchanter to put mongoose because when I upgrade the Drakefist Hammer into a Dragonmaw the mongoose enchant might not be there anymore. Will the enchant like Mongoose be removed when a weapon like the Drakefist hammer gets upgraded to its 2nd and finally 3rd form?

just swing till you get both weapons proc and switch your main hand with a third weapon enchanted with mongoose. with any luck you will see the 3rd buff popping.
theoreticaly you can manage to do 4 ( havent done this one yet) .

Stacking Questions
- If you have Mongoose on one weapon and Crusader on the other weapon when Dual Wielding will the effects stack?
- Does Mongoose overwrite itself or stack with the initial proc for a double effect if it procs twice on one weapon within the duration?
- Can added swings from talents like Reckoning or Rogue's sword spec, special attacks suck as Stormstrike or Devastate, or any other method of adding more attacks per minute increase the proc rate, or is it set in stone at 1.4ppm?

The proc rate on this is actually quite amazing, provided you have a fast enough weapon. So far, as a rogue with sword spec and Mongoose on both of them, I manage to get at least one proc per mob. The event of them proccing at the same time isn't too far off either, so dual Mongoose is definitely something to be considered unless there's a more viable option for your spec.

I'm a protection warrior with enchanting, thought it would be nice getting this one and making it for myself. I really like still doing karazhan as well but this enchant will never drop I think. Already put an adamantite chain weapon on my sword now.

As of 1st december 2008, I can confirm that upon proc, mongoose still grants 120 agi. The enchant does not have reduced effect for players above level 70, if someone is wondering.

Amazingly, despite the absolute shedload of new enchants, this is probably still the pick of enchants to consider for a tank.

I can't see anything to suggest that Mongoose has suffered the same diminishing returns that the Crusader enchant did in Burning Crusade. This means that +120 agility and weapon speed increase provides as much mitigation and threat as any other alternative currently available in-game.

Mongoose is the best enchant to have as a tanking feral druid. It procs like mad (especially when AoE tanking 2+ mobs). I have the +120 AGI buff up 80% of the time, which is much better than the +35 AGI enchant which is in effect 100% of the time

I don't think they should make it trainable, but rather that they should come up with new and better tanking enchants. Titanguard was too good? Okay, change it to something else, or come up with enchants for respectively Paladin, Warrior and Druid.

Cleared Kara every week for over a year. This , nor sunfire or soulfrost would drop. So thats around 70 Kara clears with 0 Drops, nice blizzard ggggggg.

Ah yes, Good Old Mongoose. This enchant is still the best agility to weapon even with the expansion WOTLK. This enchant is perfect for a rogue that duels maces. Also nice for tanks or anyone that uses melee weapons. When it procs, you know it. Took my chanter approx 2 years for this formula to drop (and win the roll) in Kara from a trash mob. If you are an enchanter, this is a must have item, nuff said.

As an enhancement shaman I find it very comfortable to have Berserking on my slow Main hand and Mongoose on my fast offhand. MH with WF OH with FT guarantees top DPS.

If you're a level 80 Rogue fighting more than 1 enemy, and you have Mongoose on both weapons, Fan of Knives is a great way to proc this, because it throws BOTH weapons at every enemy in range.

If you have 2 enemies attacking you for instance, that's 4 attacks and 4 chances to proc, and if you're fighting 3, it's 6 attacks/chances to proc, and so forth. It's when I use Fan of Knives on groups of enemies that I get the most frequent Double-procs of Mongoose.

It makes Fan of Knives even more deadly for those 15 seconds, or it lets you wear down 1 important enemy really quick. 2 if you have Blade Flurry.

Good news to everyone still wanting this recipe. the drop rate for enchanting recipes in pre-wotlk instances/raids has been greatly increased.. did a run tonight and got Mongoose, Sunfire, Soulfrost and surefooted. That's all of them in one run. madness

Being a level 70 raid encounter, what class and gear would one need to solo Kara, if that's possible. If not, what kind of skeleton crew could run it most efficiently? I'd really like to get some of these enchants for my book!

I think, this enchant now is the best for warrior tank, I am warrior, and I test and Mongoose and Blade Ward - proc is highest.

I tested it in Ulduar on the boss (from Xt to Mimiron) - use 2 enchant - proc in the Mongoose is highest , I think, if you are warrior - to take Mongoose!

TEst was on the sword Titanguard and Mace Shiver.

Imho - Mongoose!
