Used to build up reputation with the Brood of Nozdormu (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/faction=910#m0z) through the quests "The Hand of the Righteous" and "The Path of the Righteous."

Farming these on a server without the AQ gates open is the only "farmable" way to build rep with Brood of Nozdormu. This makes the process of obtaining the scepter for the opening much more involved (compared to running the instances of AQ on a server with them already open).

The items can only be looted by a player with Agent of Nozdormu (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=20402) or someone deputized by the Proxy of Nozdormu (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=20403).

Two things I've noticed since 2.3 hit live. First, the bugs are no longer elites. Second, the bugs of Hive Regal do not alway drop an "extra" the way they used to. So, a very slight nerf to the drop rate of Regal, but much easier to kill.

Collecting these in Hive'Regal is still the BEST location for farming. I am not sure what the above posters are talking about when they say "...do not always drop an "extra" like they used to...", as the extra was never a guaranteed drop. And if you get two loot slots at one fragment each. You did get the extra. IMO: the drop rate for the EXTRA has not changed what-so-ever.

Some things that I have noticed on this current grind though.

If you wish to maximize your time to total gathered fragments. You should go counter clockwise from the left main entrance. This will provide your first (stealthed mob) kill.

You should avoid crossing the center as much as possible, leaving the ones in the center un-killed.

You should NOT go into two of the caves but ONLY into just one cave. The caves NOT to go in have only ONE entrance which is the SAME exit. Killing your way in will leave you with nothing to kill on the way out. You cannot mount inside the cave, and that wastes your time. However, the cave with the spiral entrance has two entry points. Use the upper point to enter; and exit out the lower point. That will guarantee you continuous killing.

Doing the above by MYSELF, at level 70, melee class, and spending on average a Recount attacking time of 4 seconds per mob; allows me to grind 100+ fragments in 10 minutes. The less you chat, the more you stick to the circle, and the more bag space you go with: THE MORE FRAGMENTS YOU WILL COLLECT IN LESS TIME.

In under 1.5 hours (stopping to herb a couple lotus) I attained 1010 fragments (2.5k Reputation - or 14.4 hours total for out of hated). *Also note that I do NOT empty trash out of my bags in my runs. I sell the trash for durability repairs. Which you WILL have to get.

Something of notice (that I have to do more to confirm): It seems that if you are in a raid group you are less likely to attain green, blue, purple loot drops. That can be an important decision for you if you are trying to maximize your bag space for fragments only. Going there on my own, without a raid group: I got a lot of colored loot drops (not counting the rare Silithid). While in raid group (twice now) and still farming by myself: I only got two greens at most. Something to test and think about on this long grind.

Feral t4/t5 with welfare/badge stuff.

Hive Regal. Up top to take advantage of cat form speed and pvp 4pc bonus speed.

Run in big circle, FFF pull melee mobs onto flyers. Advertise in /trade and on forum boards and in /guild to buy the fragments for about 20s each (not many takers, but it pays to have friends).

Make sure to enable POWERSHIFTING, IAW Elitist Jerks thread on subject (soon to be gone forever, which is a good thing imo). Easily adds 200+ dps right there.

TF when at full energy and soon to be in combat, remember its synergy with powershifting. Looting first kill lets energy regen while second mob is on you.

Macro in your on-use dps trinkets to your Mangle hotkey, no need for finishers if your gear is good enough.

No need for Thorns, or scrolls and whatnot, Adamantite Weightstone might be long-lasting enough to make a good investment, though.

Greens-dropping rare, Lapress, walks around. No special drop.

Hive Lords do a knockback, make sure you have looted the other mob beside them quick, and use the knockback to get you to the next mob or a flyer.

Turn off guildchat. Make bag space any which way but lose. Maximum efficiency while grinding, and leaves plenty of time to go sell grey drops and whatnot. Remember bank is close by in Ganketzan.

62.80 is the pit with two cave entrances. Go in one, out the other for a little variety. Far eastern part of Hive Regal.

On second thought, with about 3500 AP it seems better to go with all-out dps gear (and 2t4) up top, and you'll have to do a cave or it'll be genocide and nothing left to kill up top.

Ugh. Gonna organize a pug AQ20. This is sickening.

Handing in the last turn-in will get you above 0/3000 neutral if you have roll-over reputation.

Do NOT hand in ANY carapace fragments to increase rep.

I have now done this quest 6 times, and each time the 'hated' status i was already at, is INCREASING with each hand in. WTF ?

At lvl80 going AQ40 trash for rep might be the better choice. There are 11 trash mobs in front of Skeram. While Skeram himself is rather hard to solo (imho only possible for 5 classes @lvl80 and 2 of them will have a very hard time) this is in fact good for you if you just want to grind rep: As long as you dont have an ID, you can reset raid instances just as any normal 5man. Each of these 11 trashmobs grants 100 rep up to neutral. You can enter 5 instances per hour max, so that means if you kill those 11 mobs 5 times an hour that will be 5500 rep an hour...needless to say this is rather quick and possible to solo for many classes. since there is a chance for the 4 AQ-only-mounts and rep for everyone you may even find a buddy to come along for a run or two.

I dont think it is possible to make 5500 rep an hour grinding outside...and needless to say: even grinding 3000 per hour with fragments will be extremely tiresome.

If you decide to go this way i recommend to keep the quest and gain rep by kills up to neutral and then hand your 200 fragments in.

I've calculated that to hit Neutral, I need to pickup 8600 more fragments. At 5 secs per fragment (approximately) that's 12hrs of grinding to hit neutral.

My question, however, is could I just sit there and grind constantly, getting all 8600 in my bags in one go rather than have to collect 200 > hand in > collect 200 more > hand in?

Being able to gather all 8600 in one go would be rather useful.

Did a test run to see how long it would take to gather 200 fragments as a retribution paladin. triumph gear mostly or 4.9k gearscore if you want.

17min and 51sec using Pursuit of Justice. I ran cloakwise into every hive and i killed all the silithid i passed.

550rep as a human.

Lìghtning, level 80 paladin, Silvermoon EU

What is the actual drop rate of these items? 100% now that 1.9 is out?

You need 200 to become "attuned" to AQ40 (which is what the deputy badge does)
39 people. 200 carapaces each. 7960 carapaces total. nothing too bad right?

PS: you can only loot these carapaces if you "have" been deputized....
so i hope you got a friend willing to kill 200 of these critters for you.
( presuming they drop 1 at a time, judging from the fact that you need 200 though, it would seem they drop 1-4 at a time )

Ofcourse you will also be able to loot the carapaces of the Quiraj inside the 20 man instance.
Once the gate is open ofcourse.

Post-Broodlord repeatable quest item. 42000 or so are needed to get a player from hated to neutral.

Presumedly needed to open AQ along with the war effort quests.

It's also not just 1 Fragment per kill. At least in have Regal each of those Silithids drop like 3-4 each so that cuts down on the amout of time by a lot as well.

As a Mage, I do roughly 150 an hour. This is with drinking, and not going chinatown style (kill kill kill!). This means that you'll be looking at 42000/150 = 280 hours if you're doing this alone.

While you may get help from your friends, that's only because you need to get the gates of AQ open. Once they're open, I doubt many people will volunteer to help you collect 42000 items, but the questline is very fun and the rewards are great. Sucks that they couldn't make it a bit more solo friendly.

Someone made me a deputy, but do i have to turn in broodlords head before i can turn them in for rep?
And as for drop rate they drop 1-3 and the regal ones drop 1-4, they dont always drop at least 3.

You get reputation from other things than only these fragments. AQ40 for example gives like 100 rep to Brood of Nozdurmu. That the scales get reputation was only to motivate farming for the opening Ahn Qiraj

I've been deputized by someone random that just did it for no reason whatsoever.... but what good is deputized if you can't turn these in for rep?

Being deputized means.. that you're farming them for that person, or I suppose you could hang onto them until you do in fact get the broodlord's head since you must at least turn in 200 to further the quest line.
So.. for my question.. anyone happen to know when you stop turning these things in?.. because I can't anymore. Is it once you hit friendly or honored with Nozdormu or something? Or once you further the quest-line?

i think i been duped i had it explained to me what i had to do basically told id be deputized for 150g and that the rewards would be great so i gave them the benefit of the doubt paid got deputized and now im farming these carapieces so my question is:
have i been duped? from reading the comments above im supposed to hand in the head myself before handing in these carapieces will get me any rewards? or can i still hand these in for rep and claim my rewards? is so where do i go to hand them in and who do i talk to?

Sorry to say it but you're out 150g unless he buys the Carapaces from you which I doubt he will...Sucks that people still look for ways to cheat others out of money which isn't that easy to come by unless you get nice drops or farm a lot.

Not really i say. I won't have Broodlords head for another two months and by then i will easily have 10,000+ carapaces farmed. I will probably be trading them for bijous and coins from zg just to blitz the ZG rep and for pages for CC rep from my guild.

if your gate is open you get rep for doing AQ 40. And it takes about 1/20th the time to get the rep then collecting silithid stuff.

Best way to gain rep is probably to be patient until you are able to Kill boss in AQ with your guild. 42000 sounds crazy !

so that means instead of 42 000 you would need to turn in 17 600 of these things. MUCH easier then turning in 42 000. I may actually do this now, when I hit sixty. I want that ring at exalted that will be really nice.

For the one above me:

Don't get greedy.. you only can get neutral with these things.. You can only get exalted by killing bosses in AQ40 (wich drops a item what will give you 500 rep and 100CC rep)

Im buying stacks of them for around 7G each.. that's pretty nice cause not many people need them these day's.

Still i have chance to get the ring thanks to my imba guild wich is raiding once a week.

Was it this bad in Vanilla? Were multiple players camping every single spawn location of every single elite bug in Silithus? Were people fighting and struggling constantly against other players to hopefully tag a respawn that took at least 5-7 minutes, so that they - on the high end - could farm just 30 fragments per hour?

I understand that owning the mount is an exclusive privilege, and that it should require a lot of work, but this is absolute torture. They badly need to increase respawn rate on these bugs. It's mathematically impossible for even a dedicated team of 15-20 people to farm the thousands of fragments needed in the time we have remaining.

If anyone in your group has yet to complete 塔中之巢, the bugs spawned at the top of the tower have a small percent chance to drop 异种蝎壳碎片 (our data shows ~ 1-2% drop chance).

Every little bit counts in this race, good luck out there prospective Scarab Lords!
