This is the best fishing pole currently available in the game. You can get this fishing pole by winning the Sunday fishing tournament held in Stranglethorn Vale.

One of the best places to fish is Yojamba island.

Set your Hearthstone to Booty Bay and go to Yojamba. Around the entire island there are about 8-10 pools and in all my weeks fishing, no one ever goes there.

I've already won the competition twice and multiple times I've already got 40 fish before anyone else has.

This item is part of the Stranglethorn Vale Fishing Competition. Which takes place every Sunday between 14:00 and 16:00 Server time.

These are the items that can be won if you are the first person to hand in 40 Speckled Tastyfish to Riggle Bassbait in Bootybay.

Woot finally won the Fishing Extravaganza today after attempts since lvl 20 and I'm now 70!

If others are looking to win this event some tips to win are

-You should set your hearth to Booty Bay! saves alot of time walking back to the turn in.

-I've found that having another 70 follow you stops ganks, and if it's a paladin you get Crusade Aura buff which is awesome 20% faster mount. You'll blow away the competition.

-Start around the "Ruins of Aboraz" (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/maps=33:400586) it usually has at least 3-4 pools spawn there right away

-Use a Fishing Mod A MUST Helps cast faster (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/1531/)

-Be sure to have At Least 225 fishing to get rid of the "Fish got away" Message

-Just a bit of luck and have FUN =D

Since there will be the 精致的卡鲁亚克鱼竿 once WotLK goes Live, a pole that has less +Fishing but looks cooler, this pole definitely needs a new model, too.
Something that says "No, I don't have some white fishing pole, no, I'm not too lazy to farm Kalu'ak rep, I just have won the Fishing Contest"

The real crime with this pole is the ho-hum graphic. Nat needs to re-design this thing because those walrus-folk are owning this pole graphically. The best pole in all the world looks like a white item from a trash vendor.

Arcanite Fishing Pole seems to get another 5 bonus to fishing on latest PTR build. That bumps the fishing bonus to total of 40. Add Eternium Line and you have permanent +45 to fishing in one item.

Sigh, they updated the skill on this, but as far as we can tell, the graphic is still the same. With the addition of the Jeweled and Bone rod, as well as the already badass looking Kalu'ak rod, it seems a shame that the best rod still looks crap

With the two new poles available from the Northrend fishing dailies, this baby needs a graphical upgrade. Doesn't have to be fancy, just something a little less bland and something that further shows off one's pride at winning the tournament (besides "Salty", which is fantastic already).

Zul'gurub requires fishing of 350 to consistently catch the fish found there thats why you need all the buffs you can get

I've won the competition once and barely missed winning twice, so I think I have a pretty good handle on it.

1. Try to build up your fishing skill to 200+. You'll need 300 skill to wield the prize fishing pole if you win it. Time spent applying lures is time when you aren't catching fish. Also equip your best fishing gear for added pluses.

2. Try to avoid overfished areas. You should start looking several minutes before the contest begins and find an underpopulated area.

3. Avoid fishing in a hole where others are already fishing -- Try to find your own. Otherwise, you will have to move more often per fish caught and risk losing time to catching a fish after the pool disappears.

4. As soon as the pool vanishes, move on, preferably in a different direction than others are going. It is helpful to have a mount, travel form, or Ghost Wolf form.

5. You need to be level 45+ to be seriously competitive because otherwise you will lose valuable time fighting creatures that attack you.

6. If you're on a PvP server, you probably need to be close to level 60 or have level 60 friends guarding you while you fish. I suppose you could have your friends gank other fishers, but that isn't very sporting.

7. I find the pools easier to spot from underwater. To that end I equip an Azure Silk Belt (+15% swimming) and will switch between my fishing pole and the staff from Gnomeregan that lets me breathe underwater. A Warlock's Unending Breath spell would also work (or a waterbreathing potion if you're rich). I swim until I find a school of fish (and no lures), surface, and switch back to the fishing pole.

8. Again, perhaps not sporting, but you could have party members "scout" unoccupied fishing holes for you. As soon as your pool disappears, quickly run or ride to the nearest new pool your friends have spotted. The time I won, I did *not* use this technique, so it isn't essential.

9. Not all of the pools are on the mainland. You can fish from the Troll island off the Northwest coast (and there are no monsters there), from the Water Elemental island (if you are high enough level to avoid aggroing the elementals), and probably from other islands. If nobody else is fishing in one of these places, it might make a good place for you to fish.

10. The *instant* you reel in your 40th Tastyfish, activate your hearthstone (presuming you set it to the inn in Booty Bay), run to the competition master, and try to complete the quest. Don't worry about whether someone else has already won unless you are *sure* you heard the announcement. Every second counts! I once caught my 40th fish, activated the hearthstone, and *then* heard the winner announced. Shaving 10 seconds off anything I did during that competition would have made the difference between "winner" and "also ran".

I won the fishing tourny last Sun on Windrunner.

My fishing skill is at 347 now, using no lures - looking forward to fishing up the last rare to get the enchanted line bringing it to 352.

Its helped countless times with my miss rate in high level fishing areas, such as ZG and Azshara.

was my 5th tournament I participated in. Every time I had about 25 and it was over.

Just keep going and you eventually win, if nothing else you can catch a rare fish, 2 of which I got on my 3rd and 4th tournaments.

A tactic I found to work really well, find a nice stretch of 5 or so fishing holes and run just those holes over and over. I spent so much travel time in past tournaments looking for 'fresh' holes that had no one fishing. I found it quicker to hit the same ones over and over. Also, have a buddy 'pretend' to fish next to you. The more people on a hole, the less appealing it is. There are about 7 or so fish in a hole, from my experiance.

Never the less, I found each tournament to be enjoyable and plan on participating in the next. I will be looking for my last rare fish and not really trying to 'win' .. unless I happen to have 40 and no one else has one .. then I'll get my trinket and be done with it.

Anyway, the only way to get this fishing pole is to win the weekly fishing contest held in Booty Bay.

Plenty of guides on this contest, but to summarise; contest starts at 2 pm each sunday. You dont need to be IN Booty Bay at 2 pm to be able to participate. It is wiser to be as far away from BB as possible, and work your way down the coast or circle some fishing spots, and have your HearthStone set in BB is a must.
Also, to fish in Stranglethorn, have your skill up to at least 250, or you'll miss too many catches.

After 2 pm (till 5 pm), schools of Tastyfish appear all along the shores on Stranglethorn. If you are the first to hand 40 of those over to the goblin standing in front of the booty Bay Inn, you win.

Dont underestimate this contest; there are often a lot lvl 50/60 participating, with fast mounts allowing them to race from fishing spot to fishing spot, and a high enough level not to be bothered with the lvl 30-45 beasts roaming Stranglethorn.

I've seen people win (get 40 Tastyfish) within 30/40 minutes. If you aren't near 40 fish after half an hour, you can be certain you've lost.

For the losers; 5 Tastyfish can be handed in for something around 25/28 silver (out of the top of my head). You can also fish up other rare kinds of fish in Tastyfish schools, which can be handed in for various fishing items (fishin hat a.o.)

I've been teying to get this trink for a long time now and after a couple changes to my strategy I was able to get it easily(sort of).

1. Wait till 60. Epic mounts make this much easier.

2. If you are a hunter like me, bust Aspect of the Cheetah. I beat people to new swarms a few times by not having mount up.

3. If there are lots of people in the zone dont start just outside BB or all the way at the top of the zone, fishermen and gankers bunch up there at the start. Try a little south of Grom Gol and head south to BB. When you hit BB, run to the eastern shore and start up there. /who is your friend!

4. Remember that the pools spawn randomly. I got half my fish by running past people that were running past me, meanwhile this druid that was tailin me would see the people and figure there was no more pools that way.

5. Remember that the fish dont spawn in inland waters, off islands, or in BB.

6. BRING A POSSE!. The horde are gank crazy in STV already, and the contest makes it worse. I had my 60 mage and 60 warrior homies running D for me and I couldnt have done it without them(YZZI AND RUDISH FTW!)

6.Pay attention. I fished oily blackmouth schools twice accidentally.

7. If you dont make it back to BB(SET YOUR HEARTH THERE) by 35 minutes or so, you are probably screwed.

8.After someone wins, keep fishin anyway. Fishing is a pain to level and at least this way you (if you are above 225) get rare fishing gear out of it:

you can skill up anywhere in the game that is castable. i thought it would be faster to skill up in the higher level areas pre-BC, but this was not the case. i got a lot of "fish got away" messages, or just empty casts even with lures.

most of my fishing was skilled up while waiting for boats in menethil/booty bay/etc. also, fishing the competition on sundays is a great way to skill up, not to mention fish for some rare stuff.

one thing I got that I love for fishing is the ability to detect the fish like you would herbs or minerals. it was a book that I fished out that gave me the skill.

Some tips I would've liked to have known during my first time doing this contest:

-If you have the track fish ability that you can learn from the weather beaten journal, it WILL NOT WORK FOR TRACKING TASTYFISH POOLS. It's handier to track humanoids if you have that ability, because you can see where the other anglers are heading and avoid those areas. I have read however that this is being changed with patch 2.4 and that the find fish ability will soon be able to track the tastyfish.

-In preparation for the event, it's not wise to find a pool before the event starts and wait for it to turn into a tastyfish pool, because it won't. I had read that multiple times on some forums but it's not true. When the event begins all the other pools in the area disappear and then tastyfish pools appear in random other places.

-I had also read many places that it's "totally possible to win this event without an elite mount". As uplifting as this may seem it's not really that realistic. If you play on a high population server the contest will always be won by someone with an elite mount, and usually in around 20 minutes. You really need to know what you're doing and be able to travel quickly between pools.

-Don't waste time casting over and over into pools that are close to the shore. You will spend too much time getting the "Water Too Shallow" message instead of catching tastyfish. If it's possible, get yourself a water-walking buff or if you're not a dwarf or gnome, walk as far out as you can into the water while still remaining standing and try fishing the pool from there. (It's actually really fun to watch gnomes and dwarves try this, because they're too short and they can only get a little ways out).

-Everyone talks about this but it's important to reiterate: THE PEOPLE WHO WIN DON'T SHARE POOLS. It may seem hard to avoid but it's not wise to just run to the next clump of people and fish from the same pool they're fishing. You just flat out won't succeed doing this.

-It's possible to go on and on about the relative merits of some locations over others but it all varies greatly by server and by day. Try not to take any of your preconceived notions about where to go into the event. Just focus on making informed decisions after observing the patterns you've noticed since the contest began (where people are fishing, where the pools are spawning, etc.).

-Of course it's always nice to stay afterwards and try to catch the three rare fish that give you the hat, the boots, and the fishing line. The other anglers tend to get a lot more polite (not to mention less numerous) after the contest has been won. It's also a lot of fun to watch the level 19 twinks trying to catch the rare fish that give you the boots (the boots have good stamina and can be enchanted with high level enchantments because they're an unusually high item level without having a level requirement). You'll see twinks running around being chased by trolls, crocs, and basolisks left and right.

-This may not apply to every server but here's a situation that I've seen pop up from time to time: The contest is over, and everyone who didn't win is heading back to Booty Bay to turn in their Tastyfish for a little cash. People (I may be biased as a Hordie, but it is honestly in my experience mostly Alliance characters that do this) will flag themselves for pvp then form clumps around the NPC that you turn your fish into and sit down and stand up continually in the hopes that you'll click on them and flag yourself, enter combat, and then be attacked by the bruisers. This can be incredibly frustrating. To avoid this, you might try just heading back up to Booty Bay a couple of minutes early before the contest officially ends. Also you can try zooming all the way in so you're in first person and walking right up to the NPC through the annoying characters. This way you can try to get a solid chunk of NPC right in front of you so you can click without fear. This also works if people are blocking the mailbox in a capital city.

In summation, don't count on winning (at least not on your first try), but by all means don't give up. Just keep a level head and try to have a good time.

Levelling up fishing is doable in about 7-8 hours.

It helps that I have 2 computers, I can read the news on the other monitor while I fish.

1-150, Elwyn Forest around 40:60
When you hit 75, go to the trainer on the dock, fish to lvl 150. This will go fast, about 30-40 minutes. Use all the fish for cooking lvling, then vendor the rest.

150-225 Go get the quest in Booty Bay, lower level, Old Man Hemming. Lvl up in STV. Note you can lvl up during the fishing tournament on tasty fish. Catch the rare spawns as you level up, that's how I got my Boots and Eternium Line.

225-300, Go to Theramore, find Nat Pagle, he'll send you on a milk run for 4 fish. Once completed you can lvl up beyond 225. Go fishing in Azshara, in the middle of the bay, good place to catch Stonescale Eels and other fish that sell for decent gold, depending on your world economy.

300-345 Pick up fishing 300 in Zangar Marsh,
Fish in Zangar Marsh till about 345

345-365 Fish in Nagrand in one of the Big lakes

365-375 Fish in Skettis for Golden Darter and Furrious Crawdad.

is clearly superior to alliance fishing. we have the 2nd best in game pole (the best one, this one, is hard to get and btw it's dps is crappy) and we also have better chance to get Big iron fishing pole since it's located in our territory. And I recall that we have the only area in warcraft to catch deviates! Clearly Horde has better fishing than allies...

All of you hunters .... stop it! This is the clearest example of a rogue weapon to date. Look at that DPS! Might even be the best rogue weapon in game till Wrath of the Lich hits the shelves ... ;)

i got this lovely pole yesterday after being the "Master Angler". In addition I have caught all rare fish&have fishing enchant so with attractor attached my fishing skill becomes 352 which is the maximum avaible skill in the game for present."Now I own u Nat!"
