I just picked this up, its unfortunate that it cant give you an edge in the BG, but I imagine terrorizing a the Alliance areas (Southshore anyone?) would be very enjoyable as a dwarf. This is probably best for a class that would sync up with the opposite race.

Any information on the BE? They change into the Draeni right?

Due to the fact these have a 0% chance to drop off any Outland mobs, and are all off of pre-TBC endgame content (i.e. the stuff nobody ever farms anymore), these are getting stupidly expensive on the AH. I remember them being 100g. Then they started selling for 200g. Then 300, 400, currently 500g. The Dire Maul arena is getting consistently camped just for this thing (look at the lootlist for The Razza or Skarr the Unbreakable and see if there's anything else they drop that would be worth camping for).

While tauren on a mechanostrider looks pretty funky, Troll's look even more hillarious. Their legs droop over the wings and it's pretty funny. Check it out if you're a dwarf with this trinket and the time/money to get a gnome mount.

something ive always wanted, finally got one, male tauren looks great on a mechanostrider. you can do anything you want for the 5 minutes, you'll keep the costume through fighting, mounting, etc.

worth the money for funny factor if you are debating on buying this

but my question is since it's not unique, you can have two. but do they share the same 30 minute CD?

WOOT I FINALLY got this orb after 5 Skarr kills, 4 Razza kills and 2 Mushogg kills. It dropped on the 4th Razza kill. It took me about 3-4 days to farm for it.

I love being a Tauren WARLOCK lol that is the best thing ever. I've included screenshots. Yea it only lasts 5 mins with 30 min cooldown but I'll love this item, always!

And I'm thinking about farming the Arena regularly because the blues that drop from these guys sell for really high at the AH. If I get another orb, I could probably sell it for AT LEAST couple hundred gold also.

As a druid, I've taken a major humour-blow as they nerfed Noggenfogger and Dartol's Rod of Transformation, aswell as the Delight to break when I shapeshift. =(

Will the Orb Of Deception effect break when I shift aswell? The Arrakkoa costume does not, and allows me to fly around as an Arrakkoa in Terrokar. Would be EXTREMELY funny to be a undead female in raven form, "swimming" in the air around Shattrath. ;D

Was able to kill the razza with a 70 hunter (me being 66 holy spec pally) in first time. Then was able to kill the Orc guy with a 59 warlock and a 70 warlock first time. But still no orb. Im waiting on him ATM with another 70warlcok i hope he drops it today. ALso no one seems to come to kill him because everyone else is 43-47 in that area. so you have a heads up on gettin the orb.When i go no Ally/Horde so no dueling others in ring.

Wish me luck. I'll be fighting him in the next hour.

Killing Skarr the Unbreakable & The Razza are pretty easy as a affliction/demo lock.

Just buff up Big blue with his self buff, tri-dot them and health funnel. Have to be careful with Skarr though, the guy hits like a truck, some of his strikes hit my voidwalker for over 1k. You will probably die if he aggros you if you are a cloth wearer. I got careless with aggro a few times with Skarr, thank heavens for Soulshatter.

I think I killed over them over 10 times now, but still no orb. :(

lvl 70 Holy paladin, judge wisdom, use SOR holy shock /judge SOR, 100%mana/100%HP. It was easy very easy.. No DS no LoH. Kill him 3 times by yet..has not drop Orb...

Didn't see it listed but I got mine off a Chillwind Ravager in Winterspring. These things now go for 300-500g on my server (drak'thul). Still one of my favorite trinkets in the game, I've gotten lots of /flirt and /whistle from alliance and it's fun sometimes to run around the horde cities having people yell "omg its a gnome!" Probably not worth keeping for orcs or humans since they can get the same effect from eating Savory Deviate Delight.

I had one drop for me from a chest in Winterfall, Winterspring. It was quite a suprise and earned me 625 gold in Auction House. So while it is not mentioned to be contained in anything, it sure seems to be a bit of a random drop. And while it is primarily a novelty item, i did not give up asking for a large sum, knowing someone would have too much gold and be prepared to pay for a little fun.

I ACCIDENTALLY clicked buyout, when i only had around 800 gold... >.<
I was devestated and i put it on AH for 1200gold buyout in the hope someone would be dumb enough...

This item can also sometimes be found in Fel Iron Chests in Outland. Blizzard left those as Azeroth loot, so they are in there randomly. I can confirm this personally.

Questions:

This drops off the spawns in the DM Arena, got it.

My question though is when you start this "event" and engage the mob, and the announcer yells out, how far is the yell?

I ask because not once but many times I have gotten attacked by usually Horde players (I play on PvE) while I have the mob at around 25% then they kill me, finish the mob off and loot, then leave.

Does he yell out to all of Feralas? There is a Horde town nearby, possbily his yelling is alerting them to the spawn's presence?

I dont know if I'm very lucky or what but I've killed Skarr the Unbreakable twice with my warlock and both times I had this drop! First time I sold the trinket for 650G, it surprised me that someone really bought it for that xD! I just killed him again for the second time so I'm going to try to put it on AH for around 650G again! If I have no luck in finding a buyer this time I'll use it on one of my characters :p

Question: does this interact at all with the Orb of the Sin'dorei? That is to say, when you are transformed into a Blood Elf via the Orb of the Sin'dorei and you activate the Orb of Deception, do you then change into a Draenei or do you change into whatever your race would normally swap to (i.e. Undead -> Night Elf)?

This is a random world drop.

It transforms you into a member of the opposite faction for 5 minutes with a 30 minute cooldown.

You can attack and be damaged without losing the shapeshift. Of course, if you shapeshift you will lose the buff.

I sold like 10 orb of deception so far, for 1000-1500g. I cant't understand why ppl still paying that much for this trinket. Anyway, it can be a really good money maker if you have a watcher char in dim. Repop time is nearly 8 hours.

Something that I found interesting, is that when I use this item (after getting a Transportation Malfunction via an Engineering Teleporter) when I appear to be a female orc/be and probably female draenei/rogue (Im a male NE) I transformed into an Undead Female instead of a Male.

In the current patch(3.0.3) this does NOT happen.
This will most likely lesser the value of the orb, most would think that you can equip this, change form, then put your main trinket back on.
If you remove the trinket, you remove the buff.

Here's a thought is it possible if u use this in wintergrasp. Can u enter the raid even if your faction isnt technically controlling bc u r using orb of deception. I think if the orb does allow ppl in2 raid u get get a warlock and 2 friends with the orbs to run in and then summon rest of raid to the raid. Also im wonderin is it possible to see the greater elmentals bc u r temporarily part of the horde with this trinket or alliance if u r a hordie.... Som1 with 1 of these can u plz check into this id b very curious to see if it works.

They've lessened the value dramatically based on what I just did, both riding my Talbuk as a Tauren and using Winterfall Firewater had absouletely no affect on the size of me or my mount. VERY dissapointed and hope it's either or a bug or it's changed back.

I tryed farming the orb for about 2 weeks solid. Diremaul pvp area It never dropped once. Lots of other 55ish blues dropped though. You can farm runecloth there while you wait. The bosses spawned once every 4,8 to 12 hours with a possible 30 min before or after time difference. I parked one of my 80s there and logged onto him when the timer I set went off. Though I did not get the orb, I kept track of the ah for it. I must have taken someones farming spot. By the end of 2 weeks, The 2 orbs that were in the ah had gone up to 4k gold each. Going to try to farm it once again. Its a fun item that I would like to have on all my toons.

When you use the orb, the gear that you were wearing before use is not shown when you gain the buff. Instead, you should be wearing an entirely different set of armour.

Today I've used Pygmy Oil to change me into a small gnome female.
My normal character is a male Blood Elf, normally when using Orb of Deception I turn into a male Draenei.
Upon using Orb of Deception my Pygmy Oil buff was removed and I transformed into a female Draenei.
Also, if you're a mage it's a neat little trick if you pop Mirror Image

Keep in mind, those who want to farm it...
Although the "Dropped by" part says Blackrock Spire. In fact, many, if not all of the mobs are in Upper Blackrock Spire. A pretty small Raid that can be done solo by tank classes and such.

It darned sure doesn't work as advertised, the NPCs see you as your original faction and attack you anyway. It should be a complete disguise that lasts 5 mins, and is only cancelled when you attack someone.

It would also be cool if they had missions for opposed faction members in the big cities. You know, like spies on covert ops. "Talk to X, in Stormwind, to begin the mish," if you are horde, for example.

One dropped from a bear in Winterspring this morning but I may well sell it. If you can't sneak in to your opposing faction's cities for a nosey or fishing achievement (the buff only lasts for 5 minutes but at least you could make it to a safe fishing spot before it wore off) or use it for tactical advantage in battlegrounds, what is the point? You can't use it in combination with the Iron Boot Flask (or not anymore), if you try using the orb after you've used the flask, it says "A more powerful spell is already active".

Edit: oh weird... I tried several times and it said that, then I tried again in the last minute of the flask and it worked, it turned me into a male indeed. So I guess you can only use the orb if the timer on the flask is less than 5 minutes, since the flask is 10 and the orb just 5?

Will this work for a shapeshifted druid? Because it would be a real shame to get one of those for, say a balance druid, when they can't be/shift to Moonkin form.
Also, do the effect break if you enter combat/attack/cast spells? Because if it does, there would be no point in being shapeshifted anyway. :)

I'd be happy to get a serious answer (often no problem here on wowhead), becuase I am looking for something awesome to give my brother. :)

Ok. I have one. It's a party trick. Does absolutely nothing to your ability to infiltrate the other side. It's still really cool and will impress your Raid friends, but opposing guards will recognize you through it and attack you on sight.

you CANNOT trick npc's they know right away that your fakeing it you also dont get attacked in your own city with this on...

durring closed beta, I enjoyed causing quite a disturbance by banking at the bank as an orc :D

you do however get to do all of the verbal emotes such as /cry /laugh/giggle /chicken /kiss with the opposing faction sound effects

the /dance /sleep /salute /wave etc. are also the same

you however do NOT get to do the opposing factions /silly /flirt emotes

it comes in handy when pvping on a PVE server, cause if your flag is off, you can stand there fakeing it although you cant understand the language. you do get a couple of cheap shots in.

I have one and it sucks for PvP play to.

If you're flagged, using the orb will change the toon model, but it won't change your bright red name.

The only REAL deception that it can do? Decieving some AuctionHouse sucker out of 200g.

So, you got your orb and want to do another trick with it? Try this...

Use orb....

Drink Nogenfogger Elixir....

If you shapeshift into a skelly... then cancel the Elixir effect (rt click on buff).

Now, you just had a sex change! lol

You may also be able to do it by first drinking the elixir, then use the orb... I don't think it matters.

You can also get on a griff with this double disguise... with patch 1.10 though, haven't tried it.

Ok, heres a lil' something for the rogues...
Alright, use the Orb, then go stealth; You'll remain the opposing faction either way, obvioulsy...Then, find someone of your original faction, and walk through them...Now, as every Rogue SHOULD know, the person you walk through will momentarily be able to see a glimps of you; length of revielment depends on lvl, ((For example, if your a lower lvl then the person you walk through, they may see you longer than they could if you where a higher lvl than him/her)). I find it rather entertaining to watch from afar, some random noob suddenly shouting "ALLY ROGUE! ALLY ROGUE IN ((Org/Xrds/TB/ect.))!" :P Sometimes the occasional Mage casting AoE's all over the place, or a Hunter shooting flares let and right :)

Anyway,.. Why do all these people care if someone spends 200-300-500 gold on one of these things? Many people are level 60, geared out from raids, and look around to add a little bit more fun to this "game". It's not *real* money, and if you have 1000gold burning a hole in your pocket with nothing to spend it on, then spending on something that will give you a few minutes of fun every now and then is a rational part of the "game".

Sure, to find it would be better, but I think it more pathetic to camp for something like this than to simply spend your money (should you have it) on someone else's luck.

You will obtain more money that you can spend on more trivial, novel items to add a little more uniqueness to your gameplay.

Maybe it's just me,.. but I don't see anything wrong with spending whatever you want in a video game?

For all that bought it, hope you are enjoying it, for all who found it from a rare loot.. Even better. For those who sold it, and got some 'suckers' gold,.. Grats on adding to your riches!

It's win win.

It's graphical ONLY.

So , no, you cannot use it to buy a mount you otherwise normally could not buy.

I'm a lvl 70 War who just bought this for the entertainment value.
HERE ARE THE FACTS:
1. You will change your VISUAL effect. Your name/guild tag WILL NOT be affected. You WILL show up as an enemy to the opposing faction that way. You WILL aggro enemy NPCs as well.
2. Each race has a specific disguise. The changes ARE NOT random, you will get the same costume each time.(Refer to race for costume)
3. You WILL NOT change sexes. Ppl may have found a way around this with pots & etc., but the Orb won't cause it by itself.
4. The disguise lasts for 5 mins. & the C/D on the Orb is 30 mins. (Horrible ratio IMO)
5. This is a LUXURY item. It will typically be expensive when you do actually see it in the AH. It's just a toy & you should really only purchase it if you have absolutely nothing else to spend your $ on, and with the add of Epic Flying Mounts in WoW now, people would serve themselves much better to save your dough until you have that & every other thing your heart desires before buying an Orb.
6. Lastly, IMO trying to grind for this item is a HUGE waste of time. The places/rates of the drop for it are so random/low, you could easily make enough $ in your favorite grind hole to just buy one when it hits the AH in the same amount of time.

In my server (Aggramar) usually goes for around 2000g - 3000g. Right now there's three in AH, one for 2800g, and other two for 3400g and 3800g.

And now something totally different. Has anyone tried to use it with an Elixir of Giant Growth? It must be amazing to see a giant tauren around Stormwind, for example. Or a giant draenei dancing around Oggrimar :D

Hey. Undead male warlock. Farmed Skarr the Unbreakable (solo) for this. I drank giant's growth, ran to sen'jin from org to get the "Grow" buff, ran back, grouped with a shaman who used the enrage(not sure about the exact name), and popped the orb.
Giant
Night Elf
Stepping
On
Tauren.
Priceless.

It's also quite useful in AV. With the giant hectic battles, no one notices the lone night elf running through the midst. Make sure you're unmounted or you'll be given away, though.

One notable thing. I DID manage to bypass the new patch where you cannot sex change. I was running kara with some friends and decided to have a little fun and fight the big bad wolf as a nigh elf warlock. He hit me with the little red debuff, and after I finished running around and the debuff went away, I was a FEMALE night elf. I used the orb right before the fight, so when he finally died I only had seconds as a female night elf, but this DID WORK. I'm not sure if they've fixed it by now. I should probably go check....

Saw one selling on Llane server for 200g. Ironically, I decided not to buy it, and one dropped for me when I was running UBRS for the achievement. Kinda sucks that you only turn into ONE race of the opposing faction.

When you use this on a toon, choose carefully - you don't want to be a gnome, do you?

Just Picked up 2, thats right 2 in Dire Maul. I was doing the instances on my lv80 Pally for the achievements, when I "hear" the Goblin announce that Skarr was in the Pit. Naturally I hot-footed it out there and luckily enough no one had gotten to him. So I kill him and Bam! He drops one! Well I was pretty happy to say the least (I had killed Skarr once before and he hadn't dropped it). So I left the Arena and proceeded to finish the instance. I was on my way to King Gordok when I saw a bound chest on the last platform before the door. Being a Blacksmith I was able to open it and BAM! another one I was stunned to say the least, I had no idea it could drop from chests! I quickly bragged to my guildies & finished up. Got the achievements and left a happy man. =)

how long does the effect last? it lists the cooldown time but not the duration.

The effect lasts for 5 minutes, with a reuse time of 30 minutes. Also, it must be equipped to use.

Every time I use ut I seem to become an undead, which leads me to believe that the race combinations are fixed.

So something like this:

Night elf - Undead
Human - Orc

The others I'm not sure of.

It doesn't change your race or your faction, only your graphic. If you mouse over your char it will reveal your real race. Also, seems the range models are broken while illusioned, it refuses to show bows and crossbows, not sure on guns though.

yea the cool thing aboutthis is that you can fool lowbies in either faction but lowbies will think that there something wrong with the game being that the the guards will attack you and youll read (race class of real faction) it wont read troll paladin or whatever

When I first hear of this trinket I was like "HOLY SH*T! I COULD BE AN ORC! XD". Then I read more about it, and used it, (some n00b sold it for 35g on AH :D) I realized it has a 30 minute cooldown, BUT ONLY LASTS 5 MINUTES! Complete waste of money, but apperently some people dont realize that an buy it for 500g or MORE! So if you ever get it as a drop, or see it on the AH for 100g or less, sell it, or buy it and resell it for and ENORMUS profit.

It also seems to swap gender sometime. A male undead guildmate becomes a female NE. But a male gnome just turns into a male tauren. Don't know if gender is random or set by race.

If you drink Noggenfogger Elixir before you use the Orb you'll turn into the other sex than usual (fx male Tauren into female Gnome).

In 1.9 Blizzard made it possible to ride your mount while using the Orb of Deception, which leads to stuff like this:

Well tonight I decided to buy this off the AH for 100gold... it was fun for about half an hour.

Problems with this trinket?
Race that you turn into is set. Not random.
Cool Down is 30 minutes.
Effect only lasts 5 minutes.

And in the battle grounds it doesn’t deceive anyone. The only place I found were this actually tricked people was in the starting areas.

I don’t recommend anybody buy this. If you manage find one or win one. Keep it for a rainy day when you’re bored. Or if you want money sell it.

Most importantly, don’t pay for it, you'll probably be disappointed if you do.

On a scale of 1 to 10 id rate this trinket a 3 ½ this is just my opinion.

i was in ashenvale and it tends to get raided alot and i saw a tauren and me as my low level self tried to kill him and he killed me and was laughing at me and then suddenly he turned into a gnome (orb of deception) and he actually ran around the town without tipping off the guards seriously its true O.O i'm now saving up for one ^.^

Im gonna used it just for the fun hehe.

This is surprisingly effective in the BGs - peeps are looking at your race, so they'll often times ignore you - not sure that I'd say the sucker is 500g effective, but 100g or less is definately worth it if you BG a lot.

I got this in Winterspring off one of the dragons. Was a lucky kill for me. Yeah, could have sold it, but...

I had too much fun with this in IF and Goldshire. I ate a Deviate Fish, turning into a ninja, then activated the orb turning into a troll. I walks into the AH in IF and the /yells started "ORC IN AH - KILL HER" as I just stood there and laughed. Then I walked around as a ninja for the cooldown and turned back into an Orc for more fun. I did the same thing in Goldshire and got the same /yells and even /defense channels. It was great!

i saw a horde player use this in westfall ad attacked the lvl 30sumthing elite guy who gives the peoples militia quests, he linked 2 other and ran, i treied to attack him (coz im a freaking idiot, i was a lvl 11 gnome mage) and it said on the screen in big red letters "this target is freindly" or sumthing like that and i could not attack . does this happen to everyone or is it coz of my low lvl (like feign death says the user is rezzable if he is that much higher than u)

they've changed this for the worse... where it used to just change your model and left your gear the same (at least according to previous posts) it now just changes you to a set model from the opposite faction. the tauren and undead models look exactly the same no matter who uses them or what they're wearing.
I can't say that I've ever seen anyone else using them.

I've got deviate fish, and I never use them, so being able to change into a gnome and that's it doesn't really excite me... especially if it's only for 5 minutes with a half hour cool down >.<

This is a very cool and fun item, the only low level blue that still sells for a decent amount of gold.

Its effects are purely visual, it doesn't make you friendly of give you any technical advantage.

Rogue guildy of mine got this the other day. He was pickpocketting humaniods in Western Plaguelands and found this inside a lockbox he got from one of them.

Makes his Undead Rogue look like a Night Elf. While he can't walk into Alliance towns because it doesn't change his repuation, it's good for PvP and to play with the noobs around the AH in Orgrimmar.

Reminds me of the old Mask of Deception from EQ before they nerfed it.

If this could literally change your faction for 5 minutes so you were friendly with the opposite side, then it would have been worth maybe 700g or more! If it gave you the languages and such, and the entire transformation it would be quite useful. But instead Blizzard crapped out another trinket that we can throw into the pile with the rest.

For Druids FYI: Shapeshifting will cancel the spell and you'll be your usual bear, cheetah, cat, lion, what have you (in the requisite alliance or horde version of said). So in caster, it works. But then when do you do anything in caster except walk?
