The Renewal Gits are sent every 24 hours after you renew your membership. So the most efficient way to earn multiples would be renew membership, wait for package, then renew again. That way you know that your 2g won't be wasted.

Edit: Just to clarify. Only one Gift is sent per renewal.

Just to clarify:

You can delete your membership card and renew it as many times as you want in rapid succession - today I received 25 Gnome Engineer's Renewal Gifts in the mail from the 25 times I renewed my membership yesterday. It's a low-risk proposition because the gift box's contents are typically worth 2g or more depending on your server.

I spent about 50g on this so far, and have not had any luck, then decided it was time to look it up here on thottbot. Does anyone know if it is true that it was removed in a patch?

Tis item was not removed, it just takes about a day for the gift to arrive after you renew your card. I've renewed it three times, all three times I got mithril casing. I sold them all or 3g ao I gained 1g for renewing my membership

I got this on Burning Blade-EU

It exists, i was lucky, only needed to renew my membership 6 times. There is another one on Burning Blade-EU who can make it too. He says he renewed alot more.

You have to do a renewal first i believe, First you get the card then if u really need it just throw the card out and renew and wait a day

The gifts in average contain materials more worthy than the 2 gold you have to pay for a gift. You will often find 2 or even 3 mithril tubes or casings so don't worry bout your money.

Remember that Lil' Smokey has a bad reputation amongst most players as its nerve-wracking sound can be heard by everyone around him.

(20 Mithril Bars sell for 14 gold on my server, so 2 casings/tubes = 6 bars = ~6.6g)

first off you most be gnomish engineering to get this
the quest giver is in booty bay, the same guy who you got gnomish from. you can repeat this quest as often as you like by droping your card you renewing it over and over, you do not have to wait to recive the gift in the mail b4 repeating this

If you destroy your Gnomish Engineer Membership Card in Classic, you can renew your membership for 2 Gold and will receive this gift in the mail in about a day or so.
